kids, tweens, & Special Events Autism Awareness Day Family Celebration Saturday, April 3, 9:00–11:00 a.m. April is National Autism Awareness Month, and the Museum is having a free Family Celebration designed just for children on the Autism Spectrum and their families. Visit the Museum’s Center for Creative Connections and participate in special programming before the Museum opens to the public. Pre-registration is required, space is limited. Sor Juana/Day of the Child Family Celebration: A Celebration of Women in the Arts Sunday, April 11, 11:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m., free Enjoy a wide variety of culturally themed arts activities for all ages, including a family film, a theater performance of Sor Juana for families by Frida Espinosa Müller, a Collection Connection featuring the ancient Maya work Lady Bolon-K’an, sketching in the galleries, and films from The Dallas Film Society’s 2010 DALLAS International Film Festival. A special guest performance by Mariachi Rosas Divinas, the first female mariachi group, will be a highlight of the event.

Explore The Lens of Impressionism and think about the connection between painting and photography before creating your own work of art inspired by photographs in the studio.

Sketching in the Galleries for Kids: European Painting and Sculpture (Level 2) Saturday, April 17, 1:00–3:00 p.m. Families are invited to sketch from original works of art. All supplies are provided.

Collection Connections: Gothic Bed Sundays, 1:30–3:30 p.m.

A volunteer will be in the galleries with engaging materials for all ages.

Join us for a true iMuseum experience. Interact with performers, respond to works of art in video confessionals, go on Twitter treasure hunts, share your own photos of the Museum, and more. Enjoy Showdown at the Materials Bar, Art Bytes, Open Lab, and Open Mic.

Meet Community Partner Response Installation Artist Lesli Robertson, 8:30–10:30 p.m. Showdown at the Materials Bar, 9:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. With a few minutes on the clock, compete against each other to see how creative you are under pressure.

Material of the Month: Uncovered Fourth Thursday, April 22, 6:30–8:30 p.m.

Two workshops in one! Children make art while parents learn ideas and skills for how to visit an art museum as a family.

Explore the use of a different material featured in works in the collections.

Family initiatives are funded by Catherine and Will Rose and the Pollock Foundation Education Endowment Fund. New family learning experiences are supported by a grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services. The Museum’s Gateway Gallery Endowment Fund, the Mr. and Mrs. H. Lee Hobson Endowment Fund, the Betty Moroney Norsworthy Education Endowment Fund, and the Karen and Richard Pollock Education Endowment Fund provide a permanent source of support for family and community programs. Annual support for family and community programs is provided by The M. R. & Evelyn Hudson Foundation, the Junior League of Dallas, and the Donor Circle membership program through leadership gifts by an anonymous donor and the Dedman Foundation. Creative Process: Inside Out Fifth Thursday, April 29, 6:30–8:30 p.m. Get inside the mind of guest artists as they discuss their creative process and show samples of their materials.
