DEAR MEMBERS What a wonderful year to be a golfer in Dallas, Texas. We have been blessed with near perfect golf course weather. I cannot recall a year that our golf courses have looked and played this top-notch. If you played in Tradition this year, you will agree that it was by far the best Member-Guest. Not only did our golf courses look pristine, our facilities offer more than ever before. Thank you to our one-of-a-kind staff for providing another memorable weekend for participants.

This has been a remarkable year for our Club. The completed projects were received with unanimous praise. As I mentioned in an earlier newsletter, the Board is already working on future projects. Phase II of the pool renovation will begin shortly. I am happy to announce the golf courses will undergo another renovation in 2018. This project will consist of many different areas, but a few highlights: level the uneven fairways, redesign many tee boxes, and rebuild multiple bridges.

Our Tennis program is a source of tremendous pride for the Club, and as such, we are committed to its continued growth.

Our Tennis facility will receive a substantial facelift. A few highlights of the project: resurface every court, construct two additional outdoor courts, add new fencing, modify viewing areas, and update the Pro Shop. We are enthusiastic about these upcoming projects.

Don’t forget to mark your calendars for Sunday, December 10, for our Holiday Open House and Toy Drive. This is our Annual Holiday gathering to celebrate our members and staff. Come enjoy the food, fellowship, music, and merriment.

In addition to the holiday festivities, our Members and staff are encouraged to bring a new unwrapped toy to support a local charity that benefits less fortunate children in our surrounding area. I encourage you to attend this festive tradition.

course conditions As we get to the end of Fall, it is a good time to reflect back on the

golf season. The course condition in 2017 was remarkable due to the timely rains and perfect temperatures. As for the greens, there was less humidity throughout the summer and the result was healthier greens.

The fairways were aesthetically perfect due to the above average rain

amount, but with the additional growth came some unwanted thatch or puffiness. Our landscaping has continued to mature and we are excited with the look that our landscape architect has provided with the native grasses and plants.

As for the winter months we are busy working on installing new landscape lighting for our entrance. We are also working on the final pieces of our plans for the course improvements coming next summer. We currently know that the improvements will include tee box leveling, the addition of a few new tee boxes, the replacement of several more bridges, reshaping of some lake and, creek banks, and the leveling on some fairways. We will keep you informed as the plan progresses.

fitness Let’s Start a Holiday Plan Believe it or not…..2018 is only two months away! In the fitness industry we gear up for the New Year! We know what is going to happen. We’ll see bright faces, great attitudes and hear a lot of our members say “I was so bad during the holidays!”

Have no fear, help is here! We’re going to lay out a plan for you. First, you CAN enjoy the holidays without going overboard. Holiday parties usually have the same layouts. A lot of calorie rich dishes, fatty meats, sugary desserts and as much alcohol as you want. What’s the solution? Avoidance, abstinence, restriction or the “I don’t care, I’ll start my diet after NewYears!”

THE PLAN AVOIDANCE ABSTINENCE RESTRICTION

I vote for restriction. The best way to enjoy the holiday party without offending the host or denying yourself is through restriction. Portion control is the only way to accomplish this feat. Meats should be as lean as possible and the portion should resemble the size and thickness of your hand (without the fingers). Carbohydrates, which consist of fruits, vegetables, breads and pastas should be limited to two portions. A portion of carbohydrates should be what can fit in the palm of your hand. Sorry, but that’s the rule. As far as alcohol goes…two drinks are the limit. Period! Alcohol turns into sugar and then translates to fat.

The goal of this eating plan is to maintain your current weight and to not “pack on the pounds”. Sticking to this plan will help you enjoy the holidays and prevent you from digging yourself a big hole before the new year. Let us know if we can help you this holiday season!

The DAC Tennis program has grown immensely over the past few years and competitiveness is at an all-time high. Now that the Fall Season has ended, it’s time to gear up and get a head start before next season begins. We are introducing a new class that is tennis specific.

DAC takes enormous pride in providing a wonderful wine value to our Membership.

We have identified Cuvelier los Andes as one of the highest quality and underpriced wines available.

The Cuvelier family were selling wines to the good folk of Northern France in the early years on the nineteenth Century. In 1903, with the purchase of the St Estèphe estate of Château le Crock, they moved into château ownership, crowning their move in 1920 by buying Château Leoville Poyferré. In the 1990s the family spread their wings all the way to Mendoza, initially working with Michel Rolland on his Clos de la Siete project. But, in 1999, they started to plant their own vineyards - Cuvelier los Andes - and began producing wine in 2003.

Holiday Opera Recital featuring Jared Schwartz Saturday ~ December 23rd - 6:00 PM Jared Schwartz was born in Berne, Indiana. He began courses for a double major in pre-med and music at Bethel College (IN), continuing advanced piano study with the Russian master Alexander Toradze.

After a wrist injury, he began voice lessons with Victoria Garrett, then was awarded the Arthur Assum Scholarship to attend the Eastman School of Music (NY), where he earned a graduate degree in Voice.

He performed solo roles with the Eastman Opera Theatre in East and West, La Rondine, Claudia Legare, and Rigoletto.

2017 will include his Italian debut as bass soloist in Verdi’s REQUIEM, as well as his fourth album, Franz Liszt: Songs for Bass Voice and Piano, with Mary Dibbern, pianist, and various recitals through the United States, including the Artist Series at University of Texas, Dallas.

Jared Schwartz also teaches private voice lessons and was chosen by the National Association of Teachers of Singing as one of the outstanding young American voice teachers.

He also music directed the world premier of Heathers The Musical: High School Edition At Jj Pearce High School. The production was chosen for the Texas State and International Thespians Conventions. The high school cast was also chosen by iTheatrics to record the cast album, due to their powerful musical performances.

Dallas Athletic Club would like to treat our Members and their families to a complimentary Holiday Opera Recital to commence the Christmas Weekend.

In 2016, he released Ange Flégier: Mélodies for Bass Voice and Piano, with Mary Dibbern, pianist, as well performing in various recitals, including the Winnsboro Classical Series. He also made his Haydn’s Creation debut in May, singing both Gabriel and Adam.
