A Letter from the President douglas day with future projects scheduled for late 2020. The projects include family focused spaces along with enhancements to our Locker Rooms and adding some muchneeded outdoor spaces around the Clubhouse. As our planning progresses, we will update you with the timing of these improvements. Our membership continues to grow with young families and we must keep a balance in our planning for both new Members and our longterm membership. Happy New Year to all of you! I hope your holiday season was joyful and that you have a wonderful new year. The Club had planned, for many years, a great Centennial Year. We definitely succeeded! As I reflect back, it was so memorable and our visit with Jack Nicklaus was certainly a highlight, as was our Party of the Century. On New Year’s Eve we buried our time capsule in a short ceremony. Some of the items included in the time capsule were historical items, photos, our Centennial Book and a lithograph of the Graeme Baxter painting along with some memorabilia from the golf courses. We hope all of you enjoyed all the festivities throughout the year! As we ring in 2020, we are continuing to work with Strategic Planning to enhance your Member experience
The Board continues to stay committed to our future projects for all our facilities and our beautiful courses. Our Nominating Committee is meeting and will present a strong slate of candidates for your consideration to serve on your Board of Directors. The results of that election will be announced at our Annual Meeting on Wednesday, March 11, 2020. We invite you to attend the meeting where we will share the results of the past year. In addition, in late January, the Board will select the next Board President. As my term as President will be ending in March, I want to take this opportunity to thank you for all the support you have given me during this time. Thank you all for the generous donations to the Toy Drive at the
Member Open. The toys benefit the Mesquite Social Services, and were distributed to those less fortunate in our area. They are always so grateful for the donations we provide them. It goes without saying that it is also the time of year to thank all of our Members for their generous donations to the Christmas Fund. Our employees have expressed their thanks and appreciation for your generosity. As we prepare for another great year at Dallas Athletic Club, we are crossing our fingers that our Dallas winter climate will allow for some good weather for golf and tennis in January! Speaking on behalf of your Board of Directors, we appreciate all of our Members and staff and look forward to a fun and exciting year. See you at the Club!
Douglas Day President

C ou r se Updat e January/February 2020
All of the compliments about the course conditions this fall are very appreciated. The greens have been in excellent condition and the crew has done an exceptional job keeping the courses clear of leaves and debris. The pre-emerge that was applied this fall seems to be working well at this time.
The tree program that was started this fall is progressing very well. As a result of the removal of several trees, we will have much healthier turf in the roughs and the remaining trees that are no longer crowded will have a better shape.

MAKE FITNESS GOALS, NOT RESOLUTIONS This is your year! January/February 2020
Every New Year the gym is busy and full. All of the talk among Members revolves around resolutions. Unfortunately, the buzz fades by Valentine’s Day and things go back to normal. So, it begs the question, why do most people fail at keeping their resolutions. There are two parts to that answer.
includes a HOW and a WHAT. How often are you going to workout? What are you going to do when you’re working out? Let’s begin with the HOW.
In my experience, most resolutions do not include a goal. Part One - A resolution is, “I’m going to go the gym.” A goal would be “I’m going to lose 20 pounds.” The second part is how do I reach my goal? Saying your going to lose 20 pounds is great, but what are you going to do to reach the goal.
I suggest working out a minimum of 3 days a week for 45 minutes. It is very important for your workout schedule to be on your calendar. Just saying you’re going to workout usually turns out to be a recipe for failure. Also, have an accountability partner. If you can find a workout partner, great. If you don’t have a workout partner, have a spouse or friend who supports your workout goals and isn’t afraid to ask how your workouts are going.
Generally speaking, fitness goals, should include a workout plan that

goal, weight loss, muscle tone, heart health, etc., the workouts are generally very similar. Every workout should have some stretching, some resistance training and some cardio. For example, 5 minutes of stretching, 30 minutes of resistance training and finish it off with cardio interval training. For resistance training, stick to compound movements for the most part. Leg Presses, Squats, Lunges, Chest Press or pushups and Back Rows are the top compound movements. Bicep Curls and Tricep Pushdowns work the arms, but do very little to burn fat or add muscle tone to the rest of the body. Lastly, skip the 30 to 45 minute cardio sessions. Research has shown better results from 10-20 second high intensity cardio, followed by 60 to 90 seconds of rest or low intensity cardio. Repeat the intervals 3 times and work your way up to 5 or more intervals. If you need advice and help developing your plan, please contact one of our DAC Fitness Professionals. HAPPY FIT YEAR!
