My name is Dakota Sokoloski, and I am a fourth-year interior design student at Middle Tennessee State University pursuing my B.S. degree in Interior Design. Through my dedicated work ethic and passion for creativity, I bring innovative, unique, and effective solutions to every project.
I am originally from northern Minnesota and have always had a passion for design. Growing up in a family that primarily worked in senior living, I became interested in the senior living environment and started volunteering at a nearby nursing home. Besides having a passion for design, another passion emerged to care for people and inspired me to become a Certified Nursing Assitant. As much as I loved working in long-term communities, I felt something was missing and I started researching senior living interior design and knew it was time for a change. In the summer of 2018, I moved to Nashville TN, to pursue a degree in interior design.
I enjoy each part of the design process and the different challenges that each phase brings. Although the process is repeated for each project, it is always unique with each project bringing in new exciting opportunities. I believe each design should always start with the end user and how I can provide a better quality of life. My semi-perfectionist mentality stimulates my attention to detail but does not hinder my ability to make a bold design that creates a memorable experience.
Combining a desire to care for others and a passion for design, I strive to create spaces that elevate the human experience while enhancing a design to provide each individual with a better quality of life.

NEXT Beauty is a new cosmetic company with all exclusive colors for everyone. The company was started by a woman of Korean heritage that struggled to find beauty products for herself.
The inspiration for the design of the new cosmetic company comes from the hibiscus flower called the Mugunghwa. The Mugunghwa is also called the Rose of Sharon and means “eternal blossom that never fades”. I used this flower to give the company a brand to mean eternal beauty that never fades.
The building’s design intends to connect people to nature. By using a color palette based on the Mugungwha, and a biophilic design with an organic flow of the building. The space will make coming back to the office a stress-free activity as soon as you walk into the space.
The work cafe is a place for people to go to enjoy a meal, connect, and work as a team. The space has acoustical properties with the pendant light fixtures to provide a quiet and intimate environment for everyone to be easily heard. The natural light gives a connection to nature and the balconies offer more light to the below floor.

The product development room is located on the south side of the building giving it natural daylight access that inspires the marketing team for different products to be developed. Different collaboration boards and monitors were placed in this room for team members to work together on their product development and to encourage team building.
The marketing offices are across from the monumental staircase with access to natural light creating a creative environment for the marketing team. The office is also put in the center of the different studios and across from the large conference room for group presentations.

The Greenhouse Pantry provides an opportunity for everyone to have access to fresh foods and the ability to grow their own. The Pantry is focused on revitalizing the well-being of individuals, communities, and our environment to make the world a healthier and happier place. The goals of the Greenhouse pantry are to provide affordable products to communities in food deserts with a sustainable design. As well as the pantry having a sustainable design, it is also spacious for all members of the community to navigate the space with ease.
The Greenhouse Pantry is located in the Crenshaw neighborhood in Los Angeles, located in a food desert with little access to nutritious foods. The Pantry provides a learning experience for the community on how to grow healthy foods while also bringing locally sourced produce to the community.

B ..... Produce Bins
C ..... Gardening Tools and Kits
D ..... Mobile Check Out Counter
The Greenhouse Pantry was designed with three design considerations. The Pantry is designed for resilience towards natural disasters and supply chain issues and all interactions with the Greenhouse Pantry are local instead state or national. The equitable design was also incorporated into the design by providing equal access to healthy foods for everyone in the community. Not only are the products accessible for everyone, but the Pantry is also ADA compliant, so everyone can enjoy the store. The last design consideration for the Pantry is net zero design. By using photovoltaic window panels, the Greenhouse Pantry can produce its energy. The store will also be moved by an electric truck to meet low carbon logistics and better our environment.
The New Horizons Retirement Community is a senior living community for residents with dementia and Alzheimer’s. The community is located in Fort Worth, Texas that draws inspiration from the nature of Texas. With a warm feeling of the space, it allows for residents to feel more at home creating a relaxed environment. This retirement community is designed to bring people closer together with various amenities and to make the community a home for each resident. Growing old can feel like the sun is setting, but at this retirement community, it is a new horizon of endless opportunity.
The corridors of New Horizons are warm and welcoming to the residents and family members of the community with a variety of way-finding techniques. Flourish is a new clinic in downtown Chicago across from Grant Park. Flourish offers a variety of services to its community from medical exams to medical procedures. The goal of this clinic is to help its patients flourish by providing excellent service and making more options available through its different services and technological advances. The design of this clinic is to pull in natural elements and add a variety of amenities suited to allow for the best possible care for patients and partners. The inspiration for Flourish came directly from the Chicago area with a color palette deriving from Grants Park flora and fauna.
Flourish’s floor plan is programmed to assist its partners with walkability and to also assist patients with way-finding. There are five sections of the Flourish plan, the communal space, Violet Wing, Garden Grove Wing, the procedures space, and the office spaces. Each of the five sections has a different color palette to assist with way-finding within the clinic. The clinic was also programmed this way to combat Healthcare-Acquired Infections by dividing spaces that will need more consistent cleaning with materials that can withstand the use of chemicals. The materials chosen for Flourish bring out a natural feel for the clinic while also being non-porous to help with cleanability. The light colors open up the space and creates a clean inviting atmosphere.
The communal areas of the clinic including reception, main waiting area, and self -check-in uses natural light to fill the spaces and create an inviting atmosphere for its patients. The use of natural light in each space also is intended to create a flourishing environment in which a patient can start the healing process. Each furniture piece chosen for Flourish suits its patient and partner’s needs for sanitation, comfort, and ergonomic support. In the large open space, acoustical paneling was used in the waiting area to diffuse noise and contribute to a calming space.

Each exam room’s color palette is based on the particular wing that the room resides on. This was intended for way-finding for patients and partners to easily differentiate where they are in the clinic. Each room also has the ability to close the shades for windows, change the lighting, and have individual thermostats to give more control to the patient and partner. Flourish uses WELL standards to provide a better, healthier experience for its users and to also better its footprint on the environment. Different amenites were also added to the clinic such as refillable water stations, biophilic views, and recycled grey water to help the local environment flourish along with its occupants.
With Flourish’s amenities, services, and design it provides an environment for every individual to Flourish and be there best possible self while also giving back to there environment through the use of different environemntally friendly products and practices.
Flourish is committed to the growth of its partners as much as it is to its patients. With different resources, each partner can feel like they are making a difference in their community as well as being comfortable while doing it. Flourish offers its partners a spacious break room placed away from exam rooms and other clinic services to provide a break. Flourish also offers continued education to its partners and its community with its classroom/conference room placed close to the entrance of the clinic to provide easy access.
