MONOCOQUE DESIGN

Monocoque (MQ) reels do away with the use of this two-piece design, instead replacing the sideplate with a large direct screw-in engine plate. This design nullifies the need for the screws and therefore, the extra material required on the main frame for a threaded hole to accept the screw. Monocoque bodies are therefore more compact than their traditional counterparts, and as a result of that design the size of drive gear which can be installed is maximised.

BENEFITS OF MONOCOQUE

Benefits of the engine plate design is the removal of a lot of potential entry points for water and debris into the main gearbox of the spinning reel. By removing the sideplate and therefore the area where the sideplate and the frame meet, along with the 3-4 screw holes, MQ reels are much more sealed to the elements than a normal sideplate equipped spinning reel.

Briefly mentioned above, a benefit of maximising the internal space by removing the screws and necessary material, the drive gear size of MQ reels is maximised. Larger drive gears provide reels with increased power and torque, which translates to a feeling of effortless power to the angler. The increased torque of the gear also means the gear is more efficient, which in turn also translates to a longer lasting gear since it isn’t under as much stress for the same power output.

Monocoque (MQ) reels exhibit functional benefits the angler can feel on multiple fronts, reels that are both lighter and smaller than previous models, making them more comfortable to fish. Also delivering benefits of being more powerful, easier to wind under load and better sealed to the outside elements.

ZAION

A high-density resin and carbon material, ZAION resists corrosion, and exceeds the strength of traditional reel body materials such as magnesium and alloy. This rigid yet lightweight material is utilised in both reel bodies and Daiwa’s innovative rotor designs.

ATD/ATD TYPE L

Daiwa’s ATD (Automatic Tournament Drag) uses an improved drag grease that exhibits a low viscosity at rest. This reduces initial drag start-up inertia resulting in a smoother drag from the initial hook up.

Daiwa’s innovative AIR BAIL features a hollow tubular stainless steel bail that delivers maximum rigidity and strength with minimum weight. Line easily slides along the AIR BAIL towards the line roller for trouble free line control.

Ultimate protection is delivered to the engine room of the reel with a magnetised oil seal located on the main shaft of the reel’s rotor shutting the door to the elements and unwanted intruders. Dust, water, and salt intrusion into the inner workings of a reel are a thing of the past with MAGSEALED technology.

ZAION V

One of the hardest working and exposed areas of a spin reel is protected with a MAGSEALED barrier shutting out the elements for optimum line roller bearing protection, performance and longevity.

Lighter, stronger reels. The carbon hybrid resin material ZAION V is created by precisely controlling the amount of hybrid carbon in the mix. It achieves a weightlessness that surpasses metals whist maintaining a strength comparable to metal, and has the versatility to be mounted on many reels. Twistbuster is Daiwa’s exclusive line-twist reduction system that features a tapered line roller to reduce line twisting. Twistbuster is perfect for both nylon and braided lines providing anglers with perfect line management .

TOUGH DIGIGEAR

LC-ABS

A further evolution of its predecessor Digigear, Tough Digigear is our digitally designed gearing system that ensures ultimate gear precision, rotational smoothness, and strength.

Compared to conventional spools, the LC-ABS has been shown to increase the average flight distance by approx. 5% due to its reduced weight and modified shape. LCABS Spool Tech grants anglers a premium casting experience.

The foundation of the 22 Exist’s design is Daiwa’s new Airdrive Design, a four pillar (Airdrive Rotor, Airdrive Bail, Airdrive Spool, and Airdrive Shaft) design concept that reduces weight, and enhances rotational smoothness and responsiveness to create a reel that is next level in both form and function.

The new Airdrive Rotor and Airdrive Airbail combine to reduce weight at the top of the reel to improve rotational smoothness and start up speed. These design benefits are further enhanced thanks to the Exist’s new weight-saving, optimally balanced Airdrive Spool.

The last of the four key features of Airdrive Design, Airdrive Shaft, features a low contact structure between the mainshaft and pinion resulting in improved rotational smoothness.

23 AIRITY

Truly living up to the name of AIRITY, the newest model is officially Daiwa’s lightest ever traditional spinning reel. With the introduction of AIRDRIVE DESIGN, 23 AIRITY breaks the 150g barrier to deliver never before seen levels of refinement. AIRDRIVE DESIGN incorporates all four elements to deliver a reel which enables precision control from the angler.

AIRDRIVE ROTOR is the most noticeable difference in 23 AIRITY with the flowing lines and smooth design of the new rotor delivering lighter start-up inertia and fluid reeling even under heavy loads. AIRDRIVE BAIL is a one-piece tubular hollow bail arm which has evolved from Daiwa’s original AIR BAIL design. AIRDRIVE BAIL is lighter and thinner than previous models, further improving start-up inertia and to deliver truly refined reeling. Finally, AIRDRIVE Shaft is hidden inside the MQ body and is double supported by special collars inside the pinion gear, this further reduces friction and minimises power loss through the drive train of the reel. Ensuring that all that effort you put in is transferred to line back on your spool in an intense fight. The MONOCOQUE (MQ) body remains from the previous model, crafted from a single piece of treated Magnesium, the MQ body of 23 AIRITY is incredibly light & supports a TOUGH DIGIGEAR drive system which is both forged and machined from a high-strength alloy to deliver smooth & reliable performance for years to come.

REVELRY FC MQ

23 SALTIGA represents the pinnacle of DAIWA engineering progress over the past decade, and features every bit of technology to make the new SALTIGA the best mid-size saltwater spin reel DAIWA has ever produced. For the first time in a true heavy-duty saltwater reel AIRDRIVE DESIGN is debuted. As was the case with the introduction of AIRDRIVE DESIGN with 22 EXIST, lower start-up inertia was the goal. Built upon the formidable foundations of 23 SALTIGA, the new 24 CERTATE SW features a ZAION AIRDRIVE ROTOR decreasing winding resistance & reducing the weight. It’s been a long time since Daiwa released a standalone jigging-specific SALTIGA series and the wait has been worth it, with a full redesign from the ground up, featuring new technology & features like the brand-new POWER HOLD reel seat.

Built off a HVF Nanoplus graphite blank utilising the full gamut of Daiwa technology, Saltiga Surf incorporates full 3DX and X45X Full Shield graphite reinforcement throughout the entire blank length. In developing the DRAGGER, we carried out a major review of the power ranking of shore jigging rods. SEAPOWER sports a blank constructed from Daiwa’s GLATECH material, a combination of a carbon core wrapped perpendicular to the rod blank and longitudinal single axis fibreglass material which gives SEAPOWER the desired soft and shock absorbing nature. Since almost all fights are conducted with the rod in a gunwale rod holder, a softer blank action is desirable for electric rods.

BRAIDED LINES

Braided lines gained popularity in Australia back in the early 2000’s as anglers started to search for an alternative to traditional nylon lines.

Braided line has advanced a lot since its inception but the key traits of the line remain the same. Thin diameters, low stretch and abrasion resistance are the three key features of braid that have been retained giving anglers increased feel, durability and handling.

As materials, construction and coating processes have changed over time the performance of braided lines has increased dramatically.

WHAT IS PE LINE?

Polyethylene (PE) is a synthetic polymer that is widely used in various applications due to its strength, durability, and resistance to abrasion. In the context of fishing, PE fibers are commonly used in a braided form. These braided PE lines have become popular among anglers for their strength-to-diameter ratio, sensitivity, and low stretch.

When a PE rating is applied to fishing line it is a measure of the lines diameter – not the lines breaking strain. PE lines will vary in strength between brands. For example, line rated at PE 2.5 may break at 25lb, 30lb or 40lb depending on quality/construction.

DIFFERENT BRAID RATINGS

PE RATING- The PE rating of a braid the measure of its diameter, not the braids strength. This is based on the Japanese Gou which is an old measurement used for silk. PE ratings allow you spool your reels correctly.

TEST RATING- The TEST rating of a braid is the advertised breaking strain of braid. This style of rating was popularized with the introduction of Gel Spun line to the market.

ACTUAL RATING- The Actual rating is the actual average breaking strain of a braided line. This is often stronger than the TEST rating (ie; TEST 8lb | Actual 19lb).

NUMBER OF STRANDS, MATERIALS AND WEAVE

4, 8, 12 STRANDS- Braided (PE) lines can vary in the amount of strands present. Most braid will be either 4. 8, 12 strands, the number of strands used and the spinning/braiding process used will dictate a braids strength. The higher the number of strands will generally increase the smoothness and handling of a braid.

RAW MATERIALS & COATINGS- Raw materials and coatings that are used to created braided drastically change the characteristics of braided line. For example, J-Braid Expedition uses IZANAS fibers that are a very round profile which creates a very dense and round braided line. Various coatings such as Coating PE and Evo Silicon are also added to some braids aiding in cast distance, handling as well as repelling water and containments from entering the fibers which extends the braid’s lifespan.

WEAVE - The pitch of a braid PPI (weaves per inch) will vary depending on the spinning/braiding process used. A high pitch weave creates a higher density braid making it more durable and abrasion resistant. A lower pitch weave creates a braid with a lower density and therefore is typically less abrasion resistance.
