BANCROFT, S.D. – Carrie Weaver said her past year has own by in a twinkling. Carrie was crowned as the 61st South Dakota Dairy Princess during a ceremony on March 29, 2016 at the Denny Sanford Premier Center in Sioux Falls. The event was held just prior to the Central Plains Dairy Expo Welcome Concert. Carrie’s parents, Debbie and Dave, operate a 150-cow dairy on their farm near Bancroft. “This year has gone by so fast,” Carrie said. “I really had a lot of fun. I thoroughly enjoyed the entire experience.” Carrie has known that she wanted to be involved in dairying ever since she was young. “When I was a little girl I had a favorite Brown Swiss cow named Pearl,” Carrie said. “I would go out to the pen and brush her and she would keep the other cows away from me. It was as if she knew that we were friends and had to look out for each other.” “Carrie was just learning to walk when she began to help me feed baby calves,” Debbie said. “She has always had a strong afnity for animals.” “I would go out and help in the barn every day after school,” Carrie said. “Growing up on a dairy farm gave me a strong work ethic and taught me how to manage money. I learned to appreciate farm life and to love animals.” Being selected to serve as South Dakota Dairy Princess wasn’t something that Carrie had expected. “I was shocked when Beth Mayrose, the 60th South Dakota Dairy Princess, put the crown on my head,” Carrie said. “I looked out at the audience and found my parents and saw that Dad was crying. That’s when I lost it. I was overcome by my emotions and began to cry too.” Moments after she was crowned, Carrie was giving interviews to the media. “As soon as I got to the backstage area, I was interviewed by a radio station. And then I saw Craig Morgan, who was about to perform the Welcome Concert. I asked him to pose for a photo with me and the other Dairy
