We have all our planting done; we finished soybeans on Memorial Day. There is a lot of ground in the area that’s not done. The corn is all out and is at two leaves now. If it warms up and we see some sun we’ll cut some hay down. We’ve had 1.75 inches of rain in the last JERAMIE 10 days. The fields are wet around JACOBSON Detroit Lakes, MN here but where I’m at the water(Becker Co.) has settled in.

Farmers in our area just started cutting hay yesterday, June 4. The hay looks decent. The corn is a little yellow and needs some sun. The corn is all up and has four leaves and the soybeans are 75 percent emerged. I’d say the moisture conditions are perfect. But, around RICK OYEN Colton, SD 10 miles away they got 10 inches of (Minnehaha Co.) rain in the last week and a half and 100 cows, 900 acres they have lots of soybeans to plant.

CENTRAL MINNESOTA We have the spraying done and the rock picked. The hay is beautiful; if we get sunny weather the hay will go down fast. There was some hay already cut in the area. The corn is popping up and is 1-2” high, but looks a little yellow. This week we received 1.5 inches of rain, last week we had just .2 of an inch for the week. Over the weekend, people were able to plant again.

SOUTH CENTRAL MINNESOTA

WEST CENTRAL WISCONSIN

We finished planting May 30 and we are going to start cutting hay tomorrow (June 5). There are some farmers that chopped and I think it was done out of necessity because they are low on inventory. The corn is all up and the stand looks good.

Quite a few soybeans are out of the JASON SCHROEDER ground. We’ve had an inch of rain Courtland, MN total in the last two weeks. We could (Nicollet Co.) use rain on our new seeding.

We are within 100 acres of being done planting. We did 310 acres in 40 hours.

The alfalfa looks quite good, we are going to see as good as tonnage as we’ve seen in quite a while. If we get a good window many farmers will cut. A lot of the corn is up and some stands are 2.5 to 3 inches tall. There is also a lot of corn that went LANCE KAMM in the ground during the last 4-5 days. In New Richmond, WI our area, there is a tremendous amount (St. Croix Co.) of land that hasn’t been worked or 130 cows, 900 acres planted and there has been a lot of talk about preventive planting.

I got half of our first crop hay done Sat., Sun., and Monday. I’ll start cutting again June 7. The tonnage has been real good. It was starting to lodge so I wanted get after it before disease got in there. We have 190 acres of corn left to plant but we might switch to alfalfa or soybeans or preventive planning. A lot of fields haven’t been touched down here. We haven’t gotten a stretch of dry days to get fieldwork done.

I have 20 acres of hay left to make and I will be done. We hope to finish this weekend. The tonnage has been pretty decent. The corn has all emerged and looks pretty good. There are 5 or 6 leaves on a majority of it. The soybeans are out of the ground. We went 10 FARRON days without rain around here until last night (June 4) when we GRUENENFELDER WI got a couple .10s of an inch. Things Blanchardville, (Iowa Co.) are looking good so far.

WESTERN IOWA We finished first crop hay Monday afternoon (June 3). We chopped it all and got around seven tons per acre of haylage. We haven’t done haylage in 20 years but this year we did because we haven’t had any drying days. Most other farmers in the area are waiting for the weather to clear before cutting. The soybean planting is finishing in the area and our corn has five leaves. We have good topsoil moisture but down deep we are dry.

We haven’t cut hay yet. It has been raining just about everyday.

I have corn that is up that needs to be cultivated and I can’t do that.

The tallest corn I’ve seen is 8” tall, mine is probably 6” tall. It’s coming pretty good. I think there are some soybeans that need to be planted.

If we get some sunshine we would be in good shape.

EASTERN IOWA There is very little hay made in the area. We didn’t start until this week. Trying to chop hay is virtually impossible right now. We have 25 acres done and 75 acres left. The corn is coming along pretty good. We could use warm, dry weather. A few of the soybean fields are coming up. We had around 2.5 inches of rain last week and .4 of an inch this week. It’s wet around here.
