Ontario youth sweep showmanship contest BY DANIELLE NAUMAN Staff writer

Three young showmen from Ontario took top honors in each of the showmanship divisions during Thursday evening’s Youth Showmanship Contest. Kelly Reynolds, of Corfu, N.Y., Jamie Howard, of Burgessville, Ont., Canada, and Curtis McNeil, of Goderich, Ont., Canada, sorted through 337 youth participants in three age divisions. Madison Dyment, 20, of Burgessville, Ont., Canada, rose to the top of the Senior Division for Reynolds, capturing her third Youth Showmanship Contest title in four attempts, having won the Intermediate Division twice in previous years. Dyment is an agricultural communications and journalism major at the University of Kentucky, and has been showing since she was young. “I was incredibly grateful to be able to win the contest,” Dyment said. “It was a very competitive class and the judge really put us through our paces.” Showmanship is a sport Dyment embraces because of the competitive nature, and in addition to participating at WDE, she has qualified for Canada’s prestigious TD Canadian 4-H Dairy Classic every year since she was first eligible. “I’m very passionate about showmanship,” Dyment said. “If you put in a lot of hard work, you will be rewarded. The more work you put into it, the more your passion will really shine through.” Dyment is a firm believer in daily practice to create a bond and flow with your heifer. She credits both her mother and step-father, Angela and Jamie Howard,
