Moen’s curiosity leads to interest in farming

LANESBORO, Minn. – Boone Moen’s interest in farming started at a young age.

“As soon as he could walk, he always made a beeline for the barn,” said Sue, Boone’s mom.

Boone, 11, and his parents, Merv and Sue, along with his siblings, Cassidy and Kole, milk 65 Guernseys and Holsteins in Lanesboro, Minn.

Boone started doing chores on his family farm when he was six years old.

He received a goat for Christmas, so one of his rst responsibilities was taking care of the goats.

When Boone was six, he helped save a calf that was being born backwards. He was able to keep the calf as his own.

“I was watching a calf being born and its legs were coming out, and I was pretty sure it was coming backwards, so

I went and got my dad,” Boone said.

Merv always knew his son had a special way with the cows.

“He always carried little play cows around when he was little,” Merv said.

Boone has already shown how responsible and determined he is.

One day, Boone noticed that a calf was bloating and her eyes were sunk in.

Boone called Merv to ask what to do.

Merv told him to nd a tube and put it down her throat to get the gas out.

Boone did that for 20 minutes until the gas nally started coming out. Merv had called the vet to assist, and when he arrived, the calf was up and Boone had already gotten most of the gas out of the calf by himself.

Boone had only seen the procedure done once.

“I felt accomplished,” Boone said.

“I was determined to get the gas out of her, because she was out of the best cows we had.”

Boone’s main chores on the farm include loading and hauling manure, scraping the barn, unloading small squares of hay during the summer, feeding calves and heifers, and milking.

His favorite chore on the farm is watching the cows to make sure that everything is going right. He considers scraping the barns his least favorite chore.

“I would rather be doing other things,” Boone said of scraping the barns.

On school days, Boone is outside from when he gets home from school until 7:30 p.m. On the weekends, his day usually begins at 9 a.m. and does not end until 9:30 p.m.

“He always wants to be outside,” Sue said.

Boone’s hard work and dedication to the farm showed this summer when he and his mom, aunt, uncle and cousin ran the farm while his dad was out of town for four days.

“He was the boss for those four days,” Sue said.

His day started at 5 a.m. Boone did most of the calf chores and then took the lead with milking. He knew every treated cow and which cows needed special attention.

Managed grazing for weather conditions Mahalko demonstrates moving cattle

GILMAN, Wis. – Even as gray skies were spitting snow and a bitter west wind cut through thick layers of clothing, Kevin Mahalko’s Holsteins were content grazing through lush paddocks on his family’s 40-cow organic dairy west of Gilman, Wis. Kevin, who farms with his parents, Ken and Mary, said being a grass farmer can be particularly challenging when the weather does not cooperate. The herd, from weaned calves to milking cows, are 100 percent grass fed, receiving all of their dry matter intake from pasture during the growing season.

The 2018 year proved to be challenging right off the bat, according to Kevin. Unseasonable snowfall delayed the grazing season and a dry summer left paddocks looking parched.

“We got a foot of snow in mid-April and started grazing in early May, which was late for us,” Kevin said. “Our rst crop of hay went well; we lled the silo and made some small squares, and made small squares and big squares with second crop. In the fall, as winter draws near, the Mahalkos graze their cows in smaller paddocks to raise stocking density and hammer down on the forages in those paddocks, leaving more manure and trampled residue on the soil surface.

“We graze tighter in the fall to prevent winterkill, snow mold and rust on the grasses,” Kevin said. “Our farm has very little rust [as a result]. It also prevents smothering of new growth, because there isn’t as much of a covering.”

They also utilize leader-follower grazing in some paddocks, where the milking cows take off the tops of the plants with the most nutritive value and heifers, dry cows or steers take off what is left and trample the rest while leaving

By planting grazing mixes and spreading manure in the winter, the Mahalkos were able to rehabilitate a parcel across the road they purchased in 2014.

“We cleared a lot of the woods and planted an oats cover, then put in a

good mix to rehab the soil and applied manure on all the acres,” Kevin said.

“The native grasses came back thicker by pockets of manure that were either spread a little too thick or where the spreader plugged and we had to empty it.”

Bale grazing in the winter has built their pastures up by adding organic matter to the soil with hay that cattle left uneaten, as well as incorporating more seeds that have been harvested within the bale, particularly clovers and native grasses.

“If you want to keep clover in your pastures, you either have to let it head out and go to seed or incorporate it,” Kevin said. “We bale graze some pastures in the winter and have incorporated a lot of clover that way.”

The Mahalkos see grazing as not only a tool to reduce their input costs, but also to reduce any negative impact on the environment and improve what they already have.

“I like being in business as a small farmer and seeing grazing on any scale,” Kevin said. “Grazing is a good tool for land conservation.”

I am baling corn stalks today (Oct. 23). We try to make 600 bales and half are done. We have 10-15 acres of soybeans left. The 40 acres we RAINFALL did harvest were 10-11 TOTALS Last 2 percent moisture and ran around 55 bushels Weeks an acre. We’ve combined two thirds of our corn and have about 70 acres left. We had a killing frost on Oct. 13, had a little rain on Oct. 14 and then it changed over to snow and the ground RAINFALL was white. We’ve got TOTALS Last 2 about 60 acres of corn Weeks combined. We haven’t started our beans yet, they aren’t quite ready.

We’ve chopped some 0.1” corn fodder and baled a couple of loads of small squares. The Since April 25 corn fodder is really 27.3” nice and dry this year.

The corn itself is running about 19 to 20 percent moisture. Overall, we are ahead of last year.

After a couple of weeks with periods of a mixed bag of precipitation, field work is finally resuming this week. We are really busy right now and have a lot of things going on. We started soybeans RAINFALL this week and have been TOTALS Last 2 running really well. The Weeks dryer for the corn has been running for 10 days.

The moisture on the corn is 20-28 percent and the bushels have been really good. We are also taking advantage of the good weather and are making corn stalks. We finished Since April 25 cleaning out one pit on 49.5” Monday and started on the second one Tuesday. I have to bring the heifers in from the pasture in the next couple days as well. We are adding 104 feet onto the barn for dry cows too.

Cheese market tones are bearish in Midwest

Increases in milkfat limited the losses in the Oct. 16 Global Dairy Trade auction (GDT) where the weighted average of products offered slipped 0.3 percent, following the 1.9 percent descent Oct. 2 and 1.3 percent on Sept. 18, but it was the fth consecutive decline. Sellers brought 92.5 million pounds to sell, down slightly from the last event.

Gains were led by butter and anhydrous milkfat, same products that led the declines last time. Butter was up 2.4 percent, following a 5.9 percent plunge last time. Anhydrous milkfat was up 1.0 percent, after dipping 4.4 percent. Lactose rounded out the gains, up 1.5 percent, after inching up 0.6 percent last time.

The declines were led by Cheddar cheese, down 1.8 percent, after it was down 1.2 percent in the last event. Rennet casein was down 1.7 percent and whole milk powder was off 0.9 percent. Skim milk powder was virtually unchanged.

FC Stone equates the 80 percent butterfat butter price to $1.8204 per pound U.S. CME butter closed Friday at $2.26. GDT Cheddar cheese equated to $1.5440 per pound and compares to Friday’s CME block Cheddar at $1.4975. GDT skim milk powder averaged 89.66 cents per pound and whole milk powder averaged $1.2378. CME Grade A nonfat dry milk closed Friday at 87 1/4-cents per pound.

Cooperatives Working Together (CWT) members received eight offers of export assistance this week to help sell 1.448 million pounds of Cheddar cheese for delivery in Asia, the Middle East and North Africa from November through March.

CWT’s 2018 assisted sales total 49.72 million pounds of American-type cheeses, 12.96 million pounds of butter (82 percent milkfat) and 52.19 million pounds of whole milk powder to 36 countries on ve continents.

The U.S. Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer notied Congress Wednesday that the Trump Administration intends to negotiate three separate trade agreements with Japan, the European Union and the United Kingdom.

The announcement drew praise from the International Dairy Foods Association (IDFA), stating that “Each of these countries offers abundant opportunities for increased U.S. dairy exports.” IDFA president and CEO Michael Dykes, also called for “greater market access levels for dairy in Japan, the UK and the EU.” “Japan is U.S. dairy’s fourth-largest market, representing sales of more than $290 million last year. The UK currently imports $3.4 billion worth of dairy, but imports from the United States represent only 0.25 percent of that value.”

“The EU has the potential to be a large export market for the United States. In 2017, the EU exported nearly $1.5 billion in dairy products to the United States, but U.S. companies exported only $116 million in dairy products to the EU.” “As we enter into these negotiations, it will be important for our negotiators to reduce existing tariff and nontariff barriers to U.S. exports in these key markets,” Dykes said.

CME spot cheese prices plunged ahead of Friday afternoon’s September Milk Production report and Monday’s Cold Storage report. The cheese was down for the third consecutive week and to the lowest levels since June 27, 2018.

The Cheddar blocks closed at $1.4975 per pound, down 11 1/4-cents on the week and 17 1/4-cents below a year ago. The barrels fell to $1.2675, down 9 1/4-cents on the week, 37 1/4-cents below a year ago, and 23 cents below the blocks. There were 17 cars of block that exchanged hands on the week and 34 of barrel.

Midwestern cheese production is active, according to Dairy Market News. Spot milk prices are at a premium, from 50 cents to $2.00 over Class III, thus nonfat fortifying is reportedly at its peak. Cheese market tones are bearish. There were expectations of an amalgamation of barrel and block prices after last week’s recordbreaking price gap but that has not been the case.

Western cheese manufacturing is active because of higher milk availability. Class III plants are running at or close to full capacities despite solid milk intakes from other Classes of milk. Retail and food service sales of cheese have declined slightly, but are still at a good level. Supplies of cheese depend on the type, but barrel inventories are higher than blocks. Contacts believe some processors are producing more domestic barrel cheese to compensate for weaker exports. Others say they are still seeing Cheddar interest in the export market. The present large spread between block and barrel cheese prices is reecting the uncertainty of the cheese market, according to DMN. The USDA announced their Solicitation for Trade Mitigation Purchase of Process Cheese on October 15. The announcements were for December to March delivery totaling about 6 million pounds of processed and 2 million of natural cheeses. There will be another round of announcements in January that will cover process and chunks, plus the rst announcement on uid milk purchases. The January announcements will be for April to June delivery and the purchases will be distributed to “various food nutrition assistance programs.”

Cash butter jumped 4 cents Monday, then rollercoastered to a Friday close at $2.26 per pound, up a penny on the week but 9 cents below a year ago. 42 carloads found new homes on the week at the CME. DMN says cream remains tight for churning in the Central region but varies by plant. Plants able to locate nancially feasible cream have churns running actively. Others are buying increasing amounts of bulk butter. Some have found Western loads at more favorable prices than within the region. Butter markets are mostly steady. This was the rst week of the newly imposed kosher requirement on the CME cash spot market.

Western butter output is active with generally plentiful cream supplies. Production of heavy fat, holiday consumer products is increasing and processors expect tighter supplies of cream soon. Manufacturers report steady food service and bulk butter demand. Some eastern buyers are making butter purchases in the West to meet their needs, but trucks and truckers are costly and in tight supply.

Spot Grade A nonfat dry milk closed Friday at 87 1/4-cents per pound, up a half-cent on the week and 13 1/4-cents above a year ago, with 7 sales reported.

The EU Commission reported the sale of 26,033 tons of skim milk powder out of Intervention October 18. The lowest price on this tender was in the mid-60 cent range. FC Stone reminds us that all of the product on offer is specically product that was produced before July 1, 2016.

Cash dry whey saw a Friday close at a new high of 57 1/2-cents per pound, up 1 1/4-cents on the week, with 2 cars nding new homes this week.

It’s not news to dairy producers how tough things are on the farm. FC Stone’s Dave Kurzawski wrote about it in his October 16 Early Morning Update and talked about it in the October 22 Dairy Radio Now broadcast. “$16.00 milk is (generally speaking) a ‘good’ milk price, particularly given the industry’s intense focus on income over feed margins,” he said. “However, it’s becoming abundantly clear to us that ‘income over feed’ scenarios don’t tell the full story. To truly understand what dairy farmers are facing you must look at income over feed plus rising xed costs.”

“Fixed costs have been, and continue to, rise for US dairy farmers for some time now,” he argued. “Labor costs, maintenance costs, energy, and costs to service debt are materially higher than this time last year.”

“Yes, other US dairy businesses face the same challenges,” he concluded, “But dairy producers, by and large, are price takers. They can’t pass along those increased operational costs. This fact is putting more pressure on dairy farmers than would normally meet the eye with a simply income over feed analysis.”

Penn State’s October Dairy Outlook points out that Class III futures prices for the rst six months of 2019 are up over a dollar compared to the rst six month prices of 2018. “This is good news, especially considering the general oversupply of dairy markets,” the Outlook states. “However, even with the nice boost in Class III prices, most farm gate prices are still below the cost of production in Pennsylvania.” I think it safe to say that’s much the case elsewhere.

“The Penn State Dairy Extension Team’s cash ow work with dairy producers shows that the average farm gate price for January-June 2018 was $15.10 per cwt.

However, the range of farm gate prices was nearly $4.00 per cwt (High of $17.00 per cwt, low of $13.10 per cwt). That variation in price occurred due to milk

“Unfortunately, this has been a particularly challenging growing season, especially in saturated Pennsylvania. Starting with the miniscule harvest windows for small grain forages, forages have been tough to get harvested at optimal quality and dry matter. This has caused some quality and supply issues in the hay markets, causing statewide greater price uctuations. The end of the season harvests for corn silage and grains are also proving challenging not only to get into elds to harvest, but quality issues are becoming an increasing concern. Though there are some drops in feed prices nationally, Pennsylvania’s feed costs are currently not decreasing at the same pace,” the Outlook concludes.

“Hopefully this is a temporary uctuation and not a long-term trend.”

Meanwhile; the USDA’s monthly Livestock, Dairy, and Poultry Outlook, issued Oct. 17, mirrored dairy projections in the Oct. 11 World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates report.

It reported that milk cows numbered 9.4 million head in August, an increase of 5,000 from July, and “appears that the increase came mainly from fresh milk cows entering the herd because federally inspected dairy cow slaughter was relatively high for August at 279,700 head, 5.3 percent above August 2017.” The report adds that weekly federally inspected dairy cow slaughter in September was above 2017 but was only slightly above in the second half of the month.

“Milk per cow was 1,946 pounds in August (62.8 daily pounds per head), 1.4 percent above August 2017.

Milk per cow typically declines seasonally from July to August, with an average decline of 1.2 percent for the 20 years from 1997 to 2017. This year, the decline from July to August was only 0.5 percent.”

The Agriculture Department announced the November Federal order Class I base milk price at $15.52 per cwt., down 81 cents from October, 89 cents below November 2017, and equates to $1.33 per gallon, down from $1.40 in October.

The 11 month average stands at $14.82, down from $16.41 a year ago. It is California’s rst Federal order Class I base price. As in the other milk market orders of the country, this is the price that is added to the individual Class I differential to determine that order’s Class I milk price.

Part of the reason the Class I price is not strong is due to uid milk sales which continue to show a troubled side of the industry. The USDA’s latest tracking data shows August sales at 3.95 billion pounds, down

1.8 percent from August 2017.

Conventional product sales totaled 3.7 billion pounds, down 2.0 percent from a year ago; organic products, at 222 million pounds, were up 2.1 percent and represented about 5.6 percent of total sales for the month.

Whole milk sales totaled 1.3 billion pounds, up 1.4 percent from a year ago, up 1.8 percent year to date, and made up 32.5 percent of total uid sales in the month and 31.9 percent for the year so far. Skim milk sales, at 304 million pounds, were down 10.9 percent from August 2017, down 9.7 percent year to date, and made up just 8.0 percent of total milk sales for the year so far.

Total packaged uid milk sales in the eight month period climbed to just under 31 billion pounds, down 2.1 percent from the same period a year ago.

Conventional products year to date totaled 29.3 billion pounds, down 2.2 percent; organic products, at 1.7 billion pounds, were up 0.5 percent. Organic represented about 5.6 percent of total uid milk sales January through August.

In politics; not much progress is being made in

nalizing the 2018 Farm Bill, according to Bob Gray editor of the Northeast Dairy Farmers Cooperative’s newsletter. “Negotiations have stalled over the SNAP work requirements in the House version of the bill,” he writes. “Since both the House and Senate are out of session until the November 6th mid-terms are over, don’t expect to see much progress over the next three or four weeks.”

Gray adds however; “There’s rumors circulating of a farmer-aid legislative package that could be paired with additional hurricane relief, which Congress is likely to pass before the end of the year. To date, USDA has already set aside up to $12 billion to help producers through programs like direct payments, commodity purchases and marketing activities. Additionally, there’s ongoing discussions that additional trade-relief funds could be tied to the farm bill itself, if leaders of the Ag committees open up the nal legislation to new amendments. However, it’s more likely that any aid for farmers would hitch a ride on any number of must-pass appropriations bills Congress is likely to take up after the midterms.”

CME spot cheese markets remain under pressure as offerings overwhelm buyer interest. Seasonally, the second half of the year typically reflects stronger values than the first half. It is quite rare to see barrel prices trading in the $1.20’s in October. This has only happened a couple of times in the past 15 years.

So what is causing cheese prices to remain at such low historic levels? Obviously there is more supply coming to the market than buyers can absorb, but it doesn’t appear to justify 1.20ish cheese. With NZ and EU prices reflecting signs of weakness, the market may just be starting to face the reality that world demand is somewhat lethargic.

Another cause for concern is the U.S. dollar strength.

Since mid-April the U.S. dollar index has rallied roughly 7%.

Typically a strong dollar leads to commodity price deflation as foreign buyers converting their currencies to U.S. dollars need more of their currency to buy the same amount of U.S. dollars. In a nutshell, a foreign buyer has seen the cost of cheese increase by about the equivalent of 11 cents just from dollar strength. To keep the price of $1.60 cheese the same, the buyer now can only pay 1.49 for cheese because

they are spending another 11 cents converting their currency to U.S. dollars prior to buying the cheese. This is monetary deflation.

Whatever the reason for the weak milk market, it paints a pretty bleak picture for this winter if this is all the market can muster during its seasonally strong period. The challenging part about the current market situation is it is difficult to manage any market value that provides a margin for most producers in the forward months.

One of the toughest decisions an ag producer has to make is answering the question, “Should I lock in a loss to minimize more losses, or just take my chance?” If you lock in a minimal loss, you guaranteed you won’t make money. If it was warranted you still lose money, just not as much. Neither of the choices are good options, and both disappoint your bank account and your banker.

Couple’s camels cater prosperous lifestyle The Camel Milk Co. Australia makes strides in once uncharted industry

KYABRAM, Victoria, Australia – While Chris and Megan Williams’ occupation falls within the connes of the dairy industry, they are not producing milk from your average bovine. And, despite

being a catalyst of sorts, they have developed a ourishing company.

The Williams own and operate The Camel Milk Co. Australia along with their children – Hugh, 5, Cabe, 4, and Carter, 3 – in Kyabram, Victoria, Australia, where they milk 55 camels in a ve aside walk-through parlor.

“Until we started milking camels in Australia, it was completely unheard of,” Megan said. “There are only 10 camel dairies in Australia.”

launched their business in 2014. Today, The Camel Milk Co. Australia distributes milk, milk powder, feta cheese and a body care line. They will be launching a new product, praline chocolate made with camel milk, in the coming weeks.

They also facilitate farm visits.

Their products are available online and in shops across Australia as well as in countries such as Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand.

The duo decided on camels shortly after meeting one another in 2009. Chris was employed on a cattle station while Megan was away from her family’s dairy farm working elsewhere. Then, the two worked together at Andado Station, Alice Springs, Austra-

lia, where they saw wild camels up close.

“I’ve always had an interest in camels and farming,” Megan said. “Being able to do both is a bonus.”

In 2010, they moved to Megan’s parents’ farm, married in 2011 and then pursued their own interests in 2014 when they bought 107 acres in Kyabram to build their atthe-time Camel Milk Victoria business, which began with three camels and then grew to include 70 head with 20 camels being milked.

As demand for camel milk grew, so too did the operational requirements of the farm. At the close of 2016, the Williams had tripled their staff and had outgrown their original farm.

They sold their farm site and acquired a 480-acre farm near Kyabram where they installed their current milking system.

The Williams milk the camels in a ve aside walk-through parlor. The parlor is modied to accommodate the tall animals, with high railings and special camel teat cups. per pound in 2014. Now, camel milk is bringing $30-$34 per pound.

The Williams process and pasteurize all their milk on their farm and make the milk powder. They outsource the making of the feta, and some of the milk is made into body care products in Melbourne, Australia.

The Williams have grown their herd through calving on their farm and procuring wild camels from north central Australia. Before wild camels can be milked, they rst need to be tamed.

Megan said the process can take anywhere from six weeks to four months.

“Camels can be very dangerous, but understanding their body language is very important,” Megan said.

When a camel arrives on the farm, they are not touched, only fed. But, by the third day, Megan said the camels will eat out of someone’s hands and receive food as a reward. Then, a halter and rope is applied to teach the camels how to be walked through the parlor.

This is done until the camels feel safe enough to stop and eat where they will be milked.

Camels that are never tamed are culled as pets or are sold to other farms for various uses.

The gestation of a camel is 12 months with milking following for 18 months and then 18 months of rest. The Williams strive for a year-round supply of milk.

“Resting the camels is important to us,” Megan said.

Megan said milking camels will dry up if they do not have their calf suckling on them at all times.

“Just like human milk or any mammal,” Megan said. “It must have stimulation.”

While camels produce considerably less milk than cows, their life expectancy can be up to 50 years, with females staying in milk for up to 25 years. Camels also typically have a lower somatic cell count than cows, said Megan.

“We rarely see mastitis in camels, but if we do we make sure we use the calf to keep the quarter well milked out,” Megan said.

The milking herd is fed a diet of alfalfa, native grass and oats as well as baled hay and a grain mix. Each camel receives about 40 pounds of dry matter per day.

“We rely on water to irrigate our pastures and crops,” Megan said. “We have been in drought conditions for some time, and the price of water is extremely expensive. This has pushed the cost of hay and grain up, too. All farmers are in the situation.”

The parlor system is modied with high railings and roof system to accommodate the tall camels. The milking unit is equipped with specialized camel milk teat cups. During milking, the calf stays with the mother on the other side of the rail system in order to share the milk being produced.

In Australia, Megan said there are no licensed medications for camels. So, they have had to rely on homeopathic treatments such as garlic, apple cider vinegar, Sulphur and iodine.

With only four years of raising camels on their resume, the Williams are looking forward to the years to come in the industry they all but began in their country.

“Farming is a way of life,” Megan said. “We enjoy the fresh air and our animals. It allows our children to grow up with so many opportunities.”

NEW YORK MILLS, Minn. – Harvest is a busy season, and it may be even busier due to an unseasonably wet fall this year. Keith Goeller felt that pressure and focused on getting all his soybeans out Oct. 22.

as the sun rose, burning off the remnants of a frosty night.

The plan for Oct. 22 was to nish combining the remaining 60 acres of soybeans with no issues or breakdowns, said Keith.

The Goellers harvest 340 acres of soybeans and run another 1,300 acres of alfalfa and

corn.

At 9:30 a.m., Keith delivered a round bale of hay to the cows in the pasture. Then, he went back into the barn to bed the cows.

Stephanie Goeller, Keith’s daughter-in-law, arrived at the farm at 10 a.m. Keith helped her look over the combine be-

fore heading out in the eld for the day.

Stephanie has just nished morning chores at her dairy farm up the hill where she lives with her husband, Kyle, and milks 180 cows.

Keith has four children.

His two daughters live and work in Brainerd, Minn., and both of his sons, David and Kyle, help around the dairy and farm when they can.

Kyle works off the farm as a full-time UPS driver, and Stephanie is in charge of the day-to-day responsibilities of the dairy operation.

“Stephanie does all the A.I. and milking at their dairy,” Keith said about his son and daughter-in-law. “She’s a good

worker. Her and Kyle make a great team.”

Stephanie was running the combine on Monday, and Keith praised her combining skills, too.

“She’s very precise and does a good job,” Keith said.

“That’s the type of person you want running your combine.”

Back to the cows, evening chores began at 4 p.m. Mike Bristlin mixed feed and fed the milking herd in the barn as the

sun dropped lower in the sky.

Bristlin began milking around 5:30 p.m. and handled the task on his own.

“I never worry about him,” Keith said of Bristlin. “He’s a very good worker and very good with the cows.”

8 oz. shredded mozzarella cheese 1/2 tsp. salt Black pepper Oregano

Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Lightly grease a 9x13 pan. Roll out one tube of crescent rolls on the bottom of the pan. Put in the ground beef and onions, and sprinkle on 1/2 tsp. salt, and pepper to taste. Spread the pizza sauce over. Sprinkle with oregano. Spread the cheddar and then the mozzarella over all. Roll the second tube of crescent rolls on top. Bake for 30 min.
