ince 1981, The Buckeye Classic Sale has been an outstanding tradition of the Buckeye Dairy Club. In the past 32 years, the club and sale have grown and changed into the size and caliber they are today. Every year, the members work hard to put on the highest quality sale possible featuring cattle from across the state and the country. The excellence over the past 32 years has been possible thanks to the support and connections we have made with industry personnel and Buckeye Dairy Club Alumni. The Buckeye Classic Sale Committee would like to thank all of those involved in the operation of the sale from consignors to buyers, and all those that assist in the preparation, care, trucking and fitting of the cattle. We would also like to thank the Ohio Holstein Association sale staff, as we continue to work together to bring you the finest cattle in the breed. We are proud to represent The Ohio State University, the Buckeye Dairy Club, and the Ohio Holstein Association in the Buckeye Classic Sale. From All-Americans- to high producers- to stylish show heifers; we bring together the best of the breed in this year’s edition of the Buckeye Classic Elite Holstein Sale.

istory of the Buckeye Classic Sale By: Dr. Maurice Eastridge
One of the “landmark” activities of the Buckeye Dairy Club has been the dairy cattle sale. The first sale was held in the Plumb Hall arena on May 16, 1981 and was titled “Buckeye Classic Calf and Heifer Sale” with only Holstein cattle being in the sale. There were 41 lots sold the first year. The Club received the College’s New Activity Award for the sale for the 1982/83 academic year. By 1988, the title has become Buckeye Classic Sale, it also included lactating Holstein cows, and it was moved to the Ohio State Fairgrounds. In 1994, the Buckeye Classic Sale was “in color” with the addition of Jersey and Guernsey cattle. There were 30 Holstein lots, 15 Jersey lots, and 10 Guernsey lots. To date, the sale has continued at the Ohio State Fairgrounds in conjunction with the Spring Dairy Expo. In 2010, the Buckeye Dairy Club began conducting the Holstein sale in conjunction with the Ohio Holstein Association, the Guernsey Sale with the Ohio Guernsey Breeders Association, and still continues to include Jerseys with help from the Ohio Jersey Breeder’s Association. In 2011 for the first time, Ayrshires were added to the sale in conjunction with the Ohio Ayrshire Breeders Association. We are excited to see how the sale has grown and improved over the years, and are optimistic about the opportunities for the future!
