Welcome to the 16th Badger Invitational! It is with great excitement and anticipation that I invite you to the 16th edition of the Badger Invitational. As my fellow sale chairmen can attest, the hard work and preparation that goes into hosting this Invitational has been challenging, yet rewarding in many aspects. We feel we have assembled a high quality and diverse lineup of Holstein heifers, calves and choices that are sure to satisfy Holstein breeders and marketing enthusiasts. Meeting and talking with consignors and industry supporters have shown us how fortunate we are to have such a phenomenal alumni base, for without them our sale would not be possible. A much deserved thank you must be given to our alumni who continually support the Badger Dairy Club. As Kevin Jorgensen stated in our initial sale chairmen meeting, the Badger Invitational is truly one of the easiest sales to manage because of our alumni and how they have set the tone and high standard. Additionally, the club members have the great experience of heading to Amery to work with Tom, Sandy, Cara and Erin of the Cattle Connection. These few days, along with the numerous exchanged phone calls and emails, have provided us with the necessary advice and guidance needed to learn the ropes of managing a sale from beginning to end, and for that we thank you. The sale chairmen have all done an exceptional job to go above and beyond carrying through their respective tasks. Lauren Holterman, Breinne Hendrickson, Hayden Hauschildt, Mitch Kappelman, Nicholas Schuster, Austen Schmidt, Cara Biely, Laura Finley, Ryan O’Leary, Carrie Warmka, Christine McFarland and Kaitlyn Riley were the ones who made this sale tick through it all. The 16th Badger Invitational has been the learning experience we had hoped it would be by working with our fellow club members and getting our feet wet in the industry while working to accomplish our goals. This year we are excited to have the unique opportunity of hosting our sale in conjunction with the Grand Opening of the newly renovated Dairy Cattle Center here on campus. The UW-Madison Dairy Science Department is hoping you will join us for this great event as well. TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF SALE TERMS: The terms are cash or check on sale day payable to Tom Morris Ltd, in U.S. funds unless other arrangements are made with the seller and management prior to the sale. All payments must be made to the clerk of the sale and no release of animals will be given until satisfactory settlement has been made. Compliance with the above terms of payment on the part of the buyer will then entitle him to the guarantees offered by the seller and listed below.
b. Females--Any female when sold that has freshened within 90 days prior to the date of the sale is, by that fact, considered a breeder. Should any other female when fresh over 90 days fail to become pregnant within four months of sale date, or if less than eighteen months old when sold, fails to become pregnant by the time she reaches the age of 21 months, after having been bred to a bull known to be a breeder and after having been examined or treated by a licensed veterinarian, the matter shall be reported in writing to the seller within three months of the stated limit. The seller shall then have the privilege of four months’ time in which to prove the animal a breeder by service to a registered Holstein bull before refunding the purchase price or making other settlement satisfactory to the buyer.
CHOICES: Terms are 25% down sale day, balance on possession when youngest choice reaches four months of age. Seller will provide 9K genomic testing of all resulting calves prior to selection, at buyer’s request. EXPORT SALES: Buyer assumes all responsibility for health tests required by the importing country. BIDS: The highest bidder shall be the buyer. Bidding parties or their agents are responsible for all bids placed. Every animal or lot presented for bidding is pledged to absolute sale. In case of dispute, the animal or lot shall be again put up for advance bids, and if there is no advance bid, the animal or lot shall be sold to the person from whom the auctioneer on the stand accepted the last bid. In case two or more claim the bid, the auctioneer in the box shall indicate the party whose bid he recognized. Other claimants will be given an opportunity to increase the bid, and bidding will be restricted to the two or more claimants. BY-BIDDING: Bidding directly or indirectly by the sole owner of any animal or lot is prohibited. Seller reserves the right to be a member of a buying partnership or syndicate. Bidding by any member of a partnership, syndicate, or other entity having an ownership interest in an animal or lot is permitted.
Females bred when sold and pronounced in calf are presumed to be pregnant but pregnancy is not guaranteed. The seller makes no warranty that pregnant cows or heifers will deliver calves or that they will carry calves full term. If, after the sale embryos or oocytes are recovered from a female or an attempt is made to superovulate her, this negates the breeding warranty unless there is a separate written agreement between buyer and seller. 4)
Health tests completed for this sale will be disclosed. The results of any future health tests are not guaranteed. The seller and sale management hereby notify buyers that according to the State of Wisconsin ATCP Rule 10.21, all animals are sold as originating from a maximum risk paratuberculosis herd. The seller and sale management cannot be held liable. Any animal that is a member of a herd enrolled in an official state supervised Herd Status Program may be identified as such with status level shown.
RISK: All animals located at sale site are at the purchaser’s risk as soon as struck off, but will be cared for free of charge for a maximum of 24 hours following the end of the sale. Animals are solely at the seller’s risk prior to selling in the event of fire or other eventuality.
SHIPPING: Assistance will be given in arranging shipping of animals after the sale. All costs, risks and responsibility will be borne by the buyer.
TRANSFER OF OWNERSHIP: For all Registered HolsteinsSM, the transfer of ownership to the buyer will be recorded on the records of Holstein Association USA and a certificate of registration showing that transfer of ownership will be provided to the buyer free of charge. For embryos, the transfer of ownership to the buyer will be recorded on the records of Holstein Association USA free of charge to the buyer.
PEDIGREE INFORMATION: All production, classification, type and production summaries are current. Information recorded on Holstein Association USA pedigrees is used in this catalog. All records, except records in progress, are shown on crude protein scale. Any production records followed by a quotation mark (“) have been supplied by the seller. Donor dams are identified.
WARRANTIES: 1) Each seller warrants clear title to the animal or lot, and the right to sell same.
GENOMIC INFORMATION: If genomic information on the animal or embryo is available, it must be dated and disclosed at or before the time of sale.

ERRORS: The material in this catalog has been carefully edited. If any errors or omissions are discovered, they will be announced. Such announcements take precedence over material printed in this catalog. Neither the editors of the catalog, the sale management, nor the sellers can assume any responsibility for any errors or omissions in the catalog.

To the best of the seller’s knowledge, each animal is sound and healthy in every respect and embryos have been recovered, processed, frozen, transferred and graded in keeping with IETS recommendations, unless otherwise noted in the catalog or announced from the auction stand. Every precaution will be taken to represent the physical condition of each lot exactly as it is known. Heifers that have never calved are in no way guaranteed as to the condition of their udders following calving. Breeding Warranty: The seller guarantees all animals to be breeders, but not beyond the purchase price, with the following understanding: a. Males--Should any bull after reaching the age of fourteen months fail to prove a breeder after being used for two months on cows known to be breeders, the matter shall be reported in writing, including a statement of examination by a licensed veterinarian, to the seller within three months of stated limit. The seller has the option to refund the purchase price or make other settlement that is satisfactory to the buyer. The seller makes no guarantees with respect to the ability to freeze semen.
ACCIDENT: The sale management, the sellers, and the owner of the grounds will not be responsible in any case for the condition of the grounds or the behavior of the animals and disclaim any liability in the event of personal accident or property loss. RESPONSIBILITY: The seller will represent and be responsible for his animal. In no case, however, will the seller be responsible for any damages beyond the selling price of the animals. Seller’s responsibilities and warranties will cease when the animal is resold. Tom Morris Ltd., as sale manager, assumes no responsibility, acting only as an agent, but will endeavor to protect the interests of both buyer and seller.
