NEW DELHI: With the aim of increasing the share of public-private partnership (PPP) in ports, the Centre will look to monetise assets worth Rs 10,000 crore in 2024-25 (FY25), accordingtomultiplesourcesfamiliarwiththedevelopments
The Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways has submitted a monetisation pipeline of Rs 10,000 crore, consisting of five-seven projects, to NITI Aayog — the central think tank and nodal Government body for asset monetisation according to a Senior Government Official.
Shipping Secretary Shri TK Ramachandran recently said that the Centre is looking to increase the share of PPP at government-owned ports to 80 percent by the end of the decade, said the report.
Although newly identified projects make up only a small portion of the shipping ministry’s FY25 pipeline, with a focus on pending mega projects, it said.
Finance Minister Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman had last October urged the shipping ministry to speed up the monetisation process of identified projects.
“Out of 12 major ports, nine have at least 31 projects that have been identified and approved for asset monetisation. I would think the ministry should go speedily on these so that those projects can get monetised. That is expected to give around Rs 14,483 crore,” Sitharaman said at the Global Maritime India Summit 2023 in Mumbai on October
ANTWERP: Port of Antwerp-Bruges is transforming an 88-hectare site in Antwerp into the NextGen District. The ambition is to make it a hotspot for circular economy Global pioneers have already signed up for a concession at the site.
The site itself also includes space for the NextGen
Demo. In this cluster in the heart of Antwerp’s industry, demonstrators will be able to test their new technologies and circular demo projects that have outgrown the lab.
Start-ups and scale-ups, spin-off companies and pilot projects can test their projects here on a larger scale before launching them on a commercial footing.

Development and Standard Chartered Bank (China) Limited have entered into a framework agreement focused on transforming the container industry chain and fostering sustainable finance, which includes a committed credit line of 3 billion yuan. The signing of this cooperation agreement is set to enhance ongoing information exchange between the two organizations at national, regional, and global scales. It will also deepen their joint efforts in transition financing, liquidity, and risk management, alongside promoting green and sustainable
development initiatives. This move aims to bolster highquality advancements in the ESG field.
Recognized as the world’s first financial project dedicated to the transformation of the entire container industry chain, this initiative seeks to pinpoint the green and low-carbon transformation pathway within the container industry By examining the daily operations of container manufacturing and leasing among other business segments, the project aims to integrate a “transformation finance” solution to support and expedite the green and low-carbon transformation process for each node within the industry chain.

NextGen Demo aims to be an innovation hub that acts as a catalyst for sustainable innovations involving raw materials and the energy transition.
Thanks to the industrial port network of top global players in Antwerp, NextGen Demo, NextGen District and the other companies in the port area can work closely together

Power to Hydrogen and TripleW were the first to sign up for NextGen Demo. They have chosen to test their innovative circularity and energy transition projects within the port environment and by doing so, these companies are taking an important step in the transition to a climate-neutral society NextGen Demo will provide space for 8 to 10 demonstrators.
Power to Hydrogen aims to accelerate the transition to a green hydrogen economy by means of AEM (Anion Exchange Membrane) electrolysis, in the hope of drastically reducing the cost price of

producing green hydrogen. The technology has not yet been applied on an industrial scale When they install the electrolysis system for the NextGen Demo Project in the fourth quarter of 2024, it will be the largest of its kind in the world. The project is receiving financial support from global utility companies, including American Electric Power, EDP, E ON and ESB, as part of the Free Electrons innovation programme for utilities
TripleW developed an industrial process to produce lactic acid made entirely from food waste. By scaling up this project, the foreign investor, which has been active in Belgium for some time now, has once again chosen Belgium. The high-quality lactic acid serves as a raw material for biodegradable plastics and biochemicals. TripleW’s project in NextGen Demo aims to demonstrate the scalability and adaptability of lactic acid and expand its use to include a wider range of food waste streams and end-products. The project is scheduled to start in the fourth quarter of 2024.
As informed, the ceremony took place at Hanwha Ocean’s shipyard in South Korea on May 24, 2024. The 400-meter long vessel is the fifth ship to join the company’s Hamburg Express-class series.
“With her advanced and efficient dual-fuel engines, her energy-efficient design and her many innovative features, the “Damietta Express” has been carefully crafted to meet today’s demands and to help us on our way forward into a challenging future,” Chief Financial Ofcer (CFO) of Hapag-Lloyd Mark Frese
commented. The first boxship in this class, Berlin Express, was named in October last year.
The new class of ships will make an important contribution to Hapag-Lloyd’s efforts to operate its entire fleet in a climate-neutral manner by 2045, according to the shipowner Thanks to their new dual-fuel technology, they will also be able to operate using non-fossil fuels, such as bio-methane and e-methane, and thereby generate hardly any CO2 emissions.
For the time being, liquefied natural gas will be used, which should reduce CO2 emissions by up to 25% and soot emissions by 95%. In addition, advanced components, such as an optimized hull and a highly efficient propeller, will help the vessels to reduce fuel consumption and thereby greenhouse gas emissions.
Question: We are new to global commerce, and we wish to understand What is importer of Record? Who can be IOR? Under which situation IOR is used?WhatareIORservices?
SOLUTION: In the world of global trade, there are two terms that play a significant role in ensuring successful cross-border transactions: IOR (Importer of Record) and EOR (Exporter of Record). These terms are essential for maintaining the flow of goods between countries without complications.
This allowed importers to focus on their core business activities while external contractors (IOR) handled customs compliance and logisticscomplexities
Roles and responsibilities of anIOR
Below chart will give complete details of Roles and responsibilitiesofIOR.
In below article I will provide a comprehensive understanding of IOR, their functions, and their importance in facilitating smooth international businessoperations.
Whatisanimporterofrecord?
Importer of Record (IOR) refers to the legal entity or individual that takes legal responsibility for importing goods into destination or importing country InInternationalTrade, theIORisresponsible for complying with all Customs, Taxes, and Import Regulations in the destination / Importing country. IOR is Temporary owner of goods while being imported.

NEW DELHI: Russia’s ongoing conflict with Ukraine and the resulting international sanctions have significantly impacted India’s export landscape Over the past financial year, India saw a substantial increase in the export of engineering goods, machinery, machine parts, and aircraft spares to Russia, while t r a d i t i o n a l e x p o r t s s u c h a s pharmaceuticals, tea, coffee, and tobacco either stagnated or declined, as per a report.
Despite the growing interest from Russia to import Indian goods, exporters face challenges due to the fear of sanctions and the reluctance of banks to process transactions.
Industryexpertssuggestthatsome
goods destined for Russia may be rerouted through the UAE, which has benefited from the geopolitical tensionsbetweenUkraineandRussia Russia has become India’s fourthlargest trading partner, with total trade estimated at $65.7 billion, driven largely by substantial oil imports However, this trade relationship has also resulted in India having a significant trade deficit with Russia, second only to China, standing at over $57 billion.
There has been some movement towards allowing Russian exporters to invest more freely using rupee payments, facilitated by mechanisms already in place by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).
Indian exporters remain cautious, primarily due to banks’ hesitancy to engage in transactions that might attract sanctions.
The auto components sector, which initially saw increased interest post-sanctions, has largely stayed away due to Indian companies’ significant exposure to American buyers and global car manufacturers.
Official data from the financial year 2023-24 shows that exports to Russia increased by over 35% to $4.3 billion, even as India’s overall goods exports declined by more than 3%. Of the $1.2 billion increase in exports to Russia, nearly half was attributed to machines and machine parts, including electronics, as per a report.
NEW DELHI: Exports of marine products contracted by 8.74 per cent to USD 7.37 billion during 2023-24 due to demand slowdown in key markets of the US and Europe, according to the commerce ministry data. Indian exporters, however, expressed confidence that in 2024-25, marine exports would register a healthy growth as they are getting good orders.
The shipments stood at USD 8 billion in 2022-23, the data showed.
According to exporters, demand slowdown, high inflation in developed economies and increasing exports of frozen shrimp from Ecuador to America are some of the reasons for dip in India's exports last fiscal.
Leading exporters from the sector Yogesh Gupta, Managing Director, Megaa Moda, said that as the US has imposed anti-dumping duty on Ecuador, "our products would now compete and increase exports".
He said that the order books are healthy so far.
"Now frozen shrimp from India and Ecuador will compete in the US market and we are hopeful to gain. In 2024-25, our exports will register good growth," Gupta said.
India is aiming to increase seafood exports to Rs 1 lakh crore in the next two years by increasing its processing capacity and shifting to higher valueadded products.
India achieved record exports of seafood in terms of volume and value by shipping 17,35,286 tonnes of seafood worth Rs 63,969 14 crore (USD 8.09 billion) during 2022-23.
Frozen shrimp remained the major export item in terms of quantity and value, and the US and China turned out to be major importers of Indian seafood.
Frozen shrimp, which earned Rs 43,135 58 crore (USD 5,481 63 million), retained its position as the
most significant item in the basket of seafood exports in 2022-23.
It also accounted for a share of 40 98 per cent in quantity and 67.72 per cent of the total earnings in dollar terms.
The overall export of frozen shrimps during 2022-23 was pegged at 7,11,099 tonnes The US imported 2,75,662 tonnes of frozen shrimp, followed by China at 1,45,743 tonnes.
The US is the single biggest market taking in USD 2.4 billion out of USD 5.5 billion worth of shrimp that left Indian shores in 2022-23.
There are around 1 lakh shrimp farms in India and most of them are in Andhra Pradesh.
The top export destinations for these products include the US, Europe, China, Japan, Vietnam and Thailand.
After frozen shrimps, frozen fish and frozen squid are key products of marine exports from the country
NEW DELHI: While risk of global recession has receded but concerns of inflation is impending which re-ignites the risks of global financial stability.
IMF, World Bank and prominent rating agencies have predicted further slow-down in global growth this year. Escalation of the recent conflict in the Middle East, financial stress, persistent inflation and a slowdown in international trade are downside risks for global growth.
Adding to that a potential debt crisis is looming over the global e c o n o m i c l a n d s c a p e T h e International Monetary Fund's (IMF's) Global Debt Monitor reported that the total global debt, private plus
public, has risen to USD 235 trillion which is equivalent to 238 per cent of the global GDP . Also there is a grave concern that fiscal prudence may take a back seat, as more than half of the world's population is going to the election this year.
But amid all this pessimism, India is seen by international agencies and top rating firms as an emerging economic superpower of the world.
India's central bank in its monthly economic review says "There is a growing optimism that India is on the cusp of a long-awaited economic takeoff." India is positioned to remain the fastest-growing major economy, demonstrating resilience amid g e o p o l i t i c a l c h a l l e n g e s a n d
supply chain pressures.
Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) has projected global growth at 3.1 per cent in 2024, and 3.2 per cent in 2025.
But India is projected to grow at 6.6 per cent, the fastest among major emerging markets. China is projected to grow at 4.9 per cent and Brazil at 1.9 per cent.
Among advanced economies, US, UK and Euro area growth is projected at a mere 2.6, 0.4 and 0.7 per cent respectively
Recently, the IMF, World Bank and rating agencies like Moody's, S&P and many others have revised India's growth upwards.

M U M B A I : T h e I n d i a n government's capital spending, recovery in private consumption and investment are expected to help carry forward the economic momentum post-elections, S&P Global Market Intelligence said.
The global research firm further noted that policy focus will likely remain on strategic sectors, like renewables, electronics, textiles, digital infrastructure, logistics, food production and services.
“These sectors drive Indian macroeconomic stability and growth, are of relevance to climate policy and energy transition, and support domestic employment The parties a l s o w i d e l y c o n s i d e r f u r t h e r development of these sectors to be beneficial for India’s foreign policy objectives,” it said.
S&P Global Market Intelligence
expects inflation to ease to 5.3% in 2024 from 5 7% in the previous quarter.
The firm further pointed out that if the present dispensation (NDA) secures a two-thirds parliamentary majority on June 4, the focus will be to ensure India becomes the third-largest economy by 2030 and bring down its fiscaldeficitto4 5%ofGDPbyFY26
I n i t s i n t e r i m b u d g e t , t h e government set a fiscal deficit target of 5.1% for FY25.
“Expanding the use of technology in government services and across the private sector is also very likely Proposed legislation to regulate the use of personal data and domestic digital infrastructure, and on the use of artificial intelligence (AI) systems, will, therefore, increase in both Modigovernment scenarios,” it said.
S&P Global also noted that the role
of “national champion” firms in strategic sectors is also likely to be emphasised with the likelihood of project-specific ad hoc exemptions increasing.
However, it said that the focus will pivot towards social welfare if NDA falls short of a special majority
“A weaker parliamentary mandate would imply more focus on central government-led social welfare provisions,” it noted.
The report also pointed out that cooperation with states will likely increase under such a scenario.
In the case no party can secure a majority by itself, S&P Global predicts p o l i c y m a k i n g b e c o m i n g decentralised with chances of a substantial cabinet reshuffle and prolonged negotiations for a 100-day program to drive the agenda of coalition partners.
NEW DELHI: The two-wheelers export is witnessing a year-on-year upward in H1 with 3,20,877 units exported in April. According to the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) data, the total two-wheeler exports reported a 30 per cent increase with 12,36,384 units between January and April.
The exports of two-wheelers between January and April in 2023 were 9,58,951 units. “The uptick in the export demand seen over the
last couple of months of fiscal 2024 is backed by a slight recovery and stabilization of the environment in a few of these regions, as well as a slight moderation in oil prices Recovery, however, appears fragile and sustainability of the same is yet to be established. Earlier, exports to these regions had been i m p a c t e d b y c o n s u m e r p r i c e inflation, high interest rates and foreign currency-related issues in fiscals 2022 and 2023 During this

NEW DELHI: Post COVID, Indian auto component manufacturers are receiving larger than ever export orders, thus adding extra capacities to fulfil global demand
While the potential opportunity for I n d i a n a u t o c o m p o n e n t manufacturers to become the global factory was being voiced for about a decade now, but it seems post COVID this concept is gradually taking shape
as many of the OEM manufacturers which earlier used to source from China and Europe are shifting their supply chains to India. This change is largely reflected in the order books of Indian component manufacturers, which have seen a gradual increase in the past three years.
Following the semiconductor shortage that occurred during the COVID times, the China-US stand off,
the Russia-Ukraine war and the recent Red Sea crisis have forced global OEMs to rewire their supply chains and India has emerged as the potential destination for sourcing quality components, making a departure from China and Europe. Indian component manufacturers are expected to invest around $7 billion in infrastr ucture and technology upgrade to take up the rise in orders.

recognized as a Leader in the 2024 Gartner Magic Quadrant™ for Third-Party Logistics (3PL) report.
It’s the third consecutive year that Maersk has been named a Leader According to Gartner, Leaders execute well against their current vision and are well positioned for tomorrow
The Magic Quadrant for Third-Party Logistics, as explained by Gartner, “evaluates global third-party logistics providers. Supply chain leaders responsible for logistics can use this research to assess these 3PLs when considering outsourcing elements of their logistics operations."
Why we believe Maersk was recognised as a Leader
Maersk believes being named a Leader in the 2024 Magic Quadrant for 3PL is recognition of our ability to supply customers with a wide range of quality transportation products and logistical services – from ocean and inland transportation to warehousing, customs management and beyond As part of our Integrator 2030 strategy, we are developing a fully integrated logistics offering for our customers by offering end-to-end logistics services.
In the last year, Maersk has continued to progress towards delivering that strategy, which will allow customers to either opt for the full suite of logistics services or pick and choose from the full catalogue. For example, throughout 2023, Maersk integrated most of its acquisitions into the Maersk brand, including Hamburg Süd, Sealand, Senator, LF logistics, and Pilot Freight
Services. The goal is to simplify operations and make it easier to deliver end-to-end supply chain value to customers wanting fully integrated solutions. At the same time, it will help us improve service quality for customers that are c h o o s i n g o n e o r m o r e solutions, depending on their business needs.
Global markets are evolving fast, supply chains are increasingly complex, and being equipped to handle disruption is a necessity Maersk is working to offer logistics solutions that connect, protect, and simplify your supply chain. This is underpinned by a combination of Maersk’s physical assets, new digital platforms, and insights-driven advice.
“We are proud to have AP Moller-Maersk named as a Leader in the Gartner Magic Quadrant for Third-Party Logistics, Worldwide report for a third year in a row. As a trusted supply chain partner, we are working hard to offer our customers quality, sustainable, and innovative transportation products and logistics solutions that connect, protect, and simplify their supply chains. In this world of frequent disruption and complexity, we believe the outcome of the 2024 Magic Quadrant shows how we are constantly evolving our offering to every logistical need. We remain committed to supporting our customers all the way,” said, Narin Phol, Executive Vice President and Chief Product Ofcer – Logistics & Services.
