Record exports of $ 400 bn signifies India's potential, capability: PM Modi in Mann Ki Baat NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday, 27th March, congratulated the people for a "momentous feat" of 400 billion dollar exports and said that it signifies the country's potential and capability. Cont’d. Pg. 5
Gujarat is all set to get the rst 'Steel Road’ SURAT: The Diamond City of India, Surat, has become the first in India to get a road that is made out of steel waste. Built by Arcelor Mittal Nippon Steel India with CSIR India (Council of Scientific and Industrial Research) & CRRI (Central Road Research Institute) along with the government think tank NITI Aayog, the steel slag
road is a stellar example of sustainable development. O f t e n c o nsidered as a waste material, steel slag has been a problem area for the steel industry. Laid in the Hazira Industrial Area, the road consists of 100% processed steel slag. The 6-lane 1-kilometre long road is an experimental project that may solve
the waste material issue. Slag is a by-product of smelting ores and used metals. The disposal of metallurgical and metal-processing waste in landfills is particularly hazardous for the environment. Processed steel slag aggregate exhibits great potential as a replacement for natural construction material.
India plans to restrict sugar exports for 1st time in 6 years : Sources NEW DELHI: India plans to restrict sugar exports for the first time in six years to prevent a surge in domestic prices and could cap this season's exports at 8 million tonnes, Government and Industry sources were quoted in Reuters. An announcement could come early next month, they said. "Sugar output is going to be a record high, but stocks are depleting fast because of exports. Uncontrolled exports could create scarcity and local prices could spike during festive season," said a senior government official with knowledge of the matter who asked not to be identified. Two of three sources said the Government has planned a cap of 8
million while one official said the government is also exploring the option of a levy on exports to discourage overseas sales. A cap of 8 million tonnes for the marketing year to end-September could result in a de facto ban for exports from May as dealers say mills have already contracted to export 7 million tonnes so far. Based on March deals for about 1 million tonnes of exports, they estimate mills could sign contracts for another 1 million tonnes in April after global white sugar prices jumped to a 5-year high recently. "New Delhi is keen to start the new season with opening stock of 6 to 7 million tonnes, which is enough to fulfill
December quarter demand," an industry official said. Demand usually jumps during the December quarter due to weddings and festivals such as Diwali and Dussehra. Any sugar exports curbs would the first since India imposed a 20% tax in 2016 and would represent an about-face for a government which until last year was providing subsidies for mills that were struggling to make cane payments to farmers due to record stockpiles. But bumper exports of more than 14 million tonnes over two years now mean that New Delhi's priorities have switched to producing enough sugar to meet local demand.

Record exports of $ 400 bn signifies India's potential, capability: PM Modi in Mann Ki Baat Cont’d. from Pg. 3 “India has achieved the target of 400 billion dollar exports. It has filled us with pride This signifies India's capabilities and potential. It means that the demand for Indian goods is rising in the world," said PM Modi, in his monthly radio programme 'Mann Ki Baat'. He said that India is reaching different corners and new markets in the world. "There was a time when the figure of exports from India used to be 100 billion, at times 150 billion, sometimes 200 billion. India has reached 400 billion dollars," he said. He said that the success of small entrepreneurs is a thing of pride. "Many fruits and vegetables like Ladakh's a p r i c o t , Ta m i l N a d u ' s b a n a n a s , Himachal's millets are reaching the world. The list of 'Make in India' products are as huge as our potential and hard work of our farmers,
manufacturers and industry," said the Prime Minister. The Prime Minister said that earlier it was believed only big people could sell products to the Government but the G e M Po r t a l h a s c h a n g e d t h i s , illustrating the spirit of a New India. "Right from Bijapur's fr uits and vegetables to the black rice from Chandoli we are seeing exponential exports. The best part is that our exports are being supplied to new destinations like Denmark, South Korea, London, Kenya among other nations," he said. "When each and every Indian is vocal for local, it does not take long for the local to become global. Let's make the local 'global' and augment the prestige of our products further," he added. S p e a k i n g f u r t h e r, t h e P r i m e Minister said, "Today our small entrepreneurs are playing a major
partnership role in gover nment procurement through Government eMarket place - GeM. A much more transparent system has been developed through technology." India on March 23, scripted history of achieving its highest ever goods export target of USD 400 billion nine days ahead of schedule. On average, every hour USD 46 million goods are exported, USD 1 billion goods are exported everyday and USD 33 billion every month. The exports in the financial year 2020-21 were USD 292 billion while the exports in 2021-22 are USD 400 billion with a 37 per cent rise.
India, UAE Trade pact may come into force from May 1 : Commerce Minister DUBAI: The free trade agreement between India and the UAE is likely to come into effect from May 1 this year, under which domestic exporters of as many as 6,090 goods from sectors like textiles, agriculture, dry fruits, gem and jewellery would get duty-free access to the UAE market, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said on Sunday, 27th March. The Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) was signed by India and the United Arab
Emirates (UAE) in February which aims to boost bilateral to USD 100 billion in the next five years from current USD 60 billion. The minister said that the detailed text of the pact has been released in public domain and now "we are trying to complete all our paper work, all the customs notifications expeditiously. We hope it can be operationalised by May 1, 2022". Overall, the UAE is offering duty elimination on over 97 per cent of its products which account for 99 per cent of
Indian exports here in value terms. "Currently, we are exporting about USD 26 billion worth of goods to the UAE , almost 90 per cent of them will get total tariff (or customs duty) elimination on Day 1 itself. Going forward in the next 5-7 or ten years, the rest of the 9.5 per cent (about 1,270 goods) will also get zero duty," Goyal said at the Dubai Expo here. Explaining the importance of the pact, he said the UAE also opened doors for the rest of the Middle East, some parts of Africa and Europe.
Comprehensive and clear text of the CEPA will result in greater utilization from both the sides : FIEO N E W D E L H I : Complimenting on the text of the India-UAE Comprehensive Economic Partnership A g r e e m e n t ( C E PA ) , Dr A Sakthivel, President, FIEO said t h a t t h e e l a b o r a t e c h a p t e r- w i s e classification of various subject such as Trade in Goods, Trade in Services, Rules of Origin, Minimum requirements, SPS, TBT, Customs Procedure and Trade Facilitation, Trade Remedies, Digital Trade etc will be help in easy adaptation by the industry and will also eliminate interpretation issues to a large extent. This will lead to far better utilization of CEPA from India as well as UAE. The inclusion of a few government agencies for issuance of the Certificate of Origin will help the trade and streamline the process. Since these certificates will be issued on- line, verification, if required, will be expedited thus helping the trade. Better monitoring of utilization of FTA would also be possible through digital intervention, said FIEO Chief. T h e C E PA w i l l o p e n v i s t a s o f opportunity of trade, both of goods and
services, besides investment between India and UAE. UAE is currently India's second-largest export destination next only to the US and our exports growth to UAE has been very encouraging in the past, added President, FIEO. In the first eleven months of the current financial year, our exports to the UAE have already crossed US$ 20 Bn. While exact tariff concessions are not known, a CEPA with UAE will be extremely beneficial to Indian exports particularly for the labour-intensive sectors like agriculture and processed food including meat and marine products, gems & jewellery, apparel & textiles, leather & footwears as well as other sectors like engineering, organic chemicals, plastics, paper & paper products, iron & steel, electrical and electronics, automobile and auto components and pharmaceuticals. Indian companies will gain in services like travel & tourism, logistics, IT & ITES, Health, Education, Audio Visual and construction services. The FTA will result in exponential growth in India's exports to UAE and also will open the market to other GCC countries, said FIEO Chief, as GCC
countries also follow the same technical standards as applicable to UAE paving the way for greater market access to Indian goods in GCC market. This may be used as a template for similar agreements with the GCC countries. UAE is also a re-distribution centre and a financial hub. Much of exports to Africa is routed through Dubai. The signing of FTA will encourage setting up of warehousing/distribution centres in the UAE for exports to Africa. Lot of African buyers come to Dubai and place orders from there itself and thus showcasing Indian goods in UAE will be a very good strategy for marketing our products and services in the African continent said Dr Sakthivel. The proposal to set up an “India Mart” in Dubai will further supplement this objective. The CEPA will facilitate investment through sovereign funds of the UAE in various facets of infrastructure as well as in some of the sectors identified under the PLI Scheme. UAE companies will be encouraged to produce in India and cater to both Indian and UAE markets with duty-free access now, said Dr Sakthivel.

Goods & Services exports to touch $ 650 bn this fiscal - Piyush Goyal • PLI Scheme and PM Ga Shak will catapult India into the big league • Aatmanirbhar Bharat is about self confident India engaging with the world from a posi on of strength MUMBAI: “India should look at expanding its footprint to the developed world, that is where the future growth story is”, remarked Union Minister Shri Piyush Goyal in Mumbai recently. The crossing of 650 billion dollars in terms of India’s outward export goods & services, coupled with an overall international trade volume of around 1.350 trillion dollars will take the country into the big league, said the U n i o n C o m m e r c e & I n d u s t r y, Consumer Affairs, Public Distribution and Food and Textiles Minister. “We will probably top $ 250 billion in service exports” Thanking industry members and media for acknowledging the $400 billion export achievement, the Minister said that he hoped to close the year with $ 410 billion or thereabouts. On agricultural exports, he said, “ We h a v e h a d o v e r $ 4 0 b i l l i o n agricultural exports in the last 12 months. By the time we close the year, we had expected to touch $ 50 billion. It is a remarkable achievement for our farmers and the entire ecosystem associated with it.” “Our engineering exports will cross $ 100 billion. Gem & Jewellery, Textiles, Leather- all of them are coming back on track. Petroleum exports also shown remarkable increase. Steel sector has also done extremely well”. “We will reach wonderful targets on service exports; we will probably top $ 250 billion of service exports”, said the Minister. Self-Reliant India and International Trade “When PM Modi talks of a selfreliant India, he is certainly not talking about an India which closes its doors to international engagements. Aatma Nirbhar Bharat is about selfconfidence, self-sufficiency, it is about engaging with the world from a position
of strength”, said the Minister. “No country in the world has grown without significant inter national engagement. Towards that end, we should look at some critical elements in our journey to Aatma Nirbhar Bharat. Every Ministry and Department of the government along with states is working on this goal”. Free Trade Agreements “We are negotiating Free Trade Agreements (FTAs) with Australia, UK, Canada, EU, Israel and, very soon, we hope to launch it with the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC- MiddleEastern countries)”. Speaking about the recently c o n c l u d e d I n d i a - UA E F TA , t h e Minister said, “Our own estimate is that the trade which is at about $ 60-65 billion will go up to $ 100 billion very rapidly”. The Minister pointed out the need to look at various geographies and see how we can expand especially to developed countries. He said India is ready to do this. “India is cost-competitive, has talent, is trusted, other countries look up to us for robust and resilient supply chains. India is looked upon as a reliable partner. Our industry is ready to work with the rest of a world which works on rulebased and transparent systems”. “When India walked out of RCEP, we got unanimous support from across industry, farmers, everybody. Everyone was concerned about the presence of China since their economy is not very open, doesn't welcome Indian industry and has non-transparent pricing”. PLI Scheme and PM Gati Shakti will be the game changers “Production Linked Incentive Program, which emerged from an industry-led committee under the facilitation of the Government, was conceived after a careful analysis of 24 sectors, leading to a selection of 14
sectors to help them achieve scale and global competitiveness”, informed the Commerce Minister. PLI scheme has identified sectors that have huge global opportunities but where India has remained a marginal player, he added. “As regards textiles, we have often been focused on one element of the market, ignoring sectoral areas such as technical textiles & geo-textiles where majority of the global trade lies but where we remained a marginal player. PLI scheme seeks to redress the imbalance”. “Speciality steel is another area with low domestic demand and no price competitiveness where PLI scheme has been brought in. Food processing and drone manufacturing are other sectors where PLI has been brought in”. For the first time, the Government has come out with a scheme for semiconductor sector alone, providing Rs. 76,000 crore PLI support to attract domestic manufacturing, stated the Minister. PM Gati Shakti Highlighting importance of the innovative initiative called PM Gati Shakti, Shri Goyal said, “It will help India develop infrastructure in a much more thoughtful, organized & intelligent manner. It will also help better monitoring and achieve faster rollout of infrastructure at stated costs, helping bring down logistics costs”. He urged the media to study and demystify this scheme for the common man.

Höegh Autoliners delivers 2021 Annual Report OSLO: Höegh Autoliners delivers its 2021 Annual report which highlights the Company’s performance the last financial year and clear focus on its path to a zero emissions future through its green fleet renewal program and strategic repositioning. Andreas Enger, CEO of Höegh Autoliners, says: “2021 has been a year of considerable milestones for Höegh Autoliners. With substantial re-pricing and commercial recovery, admission to trading on Euronext Growth and presentation of the design for our Aurora class vessels, the year has provided us with key building blocks for continuing to deliver high quality global ocean transportation solutions. We remain committed to our vision of a zero emissions future, reducing our carbon footprint and supporting the decarbonisation of our customers’ supply chain. I have never witnessed such a marked strategic repositioning in a single year. I would like to thank our seafarers and onshore staff, customers, and partners for contributing to this year’s impressive results and milestones.” Freight revenues for FY 2021 were USD 947 million, an increase of 28% compared to FY 2020. The increase was primarily due to higher net rates and better utilisation. EBITDA for FY 2021 was USD 203 million, compared to USD 175 million for FY 2020. Adjusted EBITDA for FY 2021 was USD 210 million compared to USD 165 million for FY 2020. Net profit for FY 2021 was USD 125 million compared to a net loss of USD 19 million for FY 2020. The net profit for 2021 was highly influenced by the reversal of asset impairment charges of USD 96 million. Cash and cash equivalents were USD 228 million at the end of 2021 compared to USD 115 million at the end of 2020. The cash balance at year-end was strongly supported by the proceeds from the private placement in November 2021, where a total of USD 131 million (NOK 1.2 billion) was raised in new equity capital. Per Øivind Rosmo, CFO of Höegh Autoliners, says: “We are very pleased with our financial results in 2021. The successful admission to trade, improved rates and market conditions, the strengthening of long-term customer relations, and prioritising a favourable cargo
mix was the driving force behind a substantial commercial recovery and profit growth for us.” At the forefront of sustainable shipping In 2021, Höegh Autoliners remained committed to strengthening its leading position in decarbonisation and paving the way towards a net zero emissions future. Between 2008–2021 the Company achieved a reduced carbon intensity of 30% across its fleet and is well on track to meet the global IMO 2030-target of 40% reduction. “Höegh Autoliners has a clear ambition to reach net zero by 2040. Launching our zero-carbon ready Aurora class vessel represents a definitive step in reaching that target. The Aurora class represents the future of our business and demonstrates our clear path to a zero emissions future. With the solid foundation we have built in 2021, we will continue our strategic development to lead the way towards a net zero emissions future and support our customers in decarbonising their supply chain,” says Andreas Enger. Highlights of 2021: • Successful trial of our first carbon neutral voyage from Europe to South Africa using 100% pure advanced biofuels meeting the highest sustainability standard in March 2021. • Launch of the design for the multi-fuel and zero carbon ready Aurora class in April 2021, and subsequent contract signing with China Merchants Heavy Industry in January 2022 to build a series of up to 12 Aurora class vessels. Under the terms of the contract, the first two vessels will be delivered in the second half of 2024 and the next two vessels in the first half of 2025. • Signing of the Neptune Declaration on Seafarer wellbeing and crew change in August 2021. At the end of 2021, none of our crew members stayed onboard longer than the 11-month contract period and 95% of our seafarers were fully vaccinated. • Signing of the “Getting to Zero” coalition’s Call to Action in September 2021 to accelerate the decarbonisation of the shipping industry, reaffirming our long-standing commitment to sustainability. • Successful admission to trade on Euronext Growth Oslo in November 2021, and USD 131 million raised in new equity capital.
