Logistics major Allcargo walks the talk on its environment commitment
MUMBAI: With disrupted monsoons, rising temperatures, and forest fires becoming increasingly common, there is a growing consensus in the logistics sectorthatclimatechangeneedsto be combatted. Cognizant of their impact on the planet, various organizations are looking to reduce their carbon emissions, especially those emitted during logistics activities.
Among other operational measures to mitigate carbon emissions, a more holistic approach is being adopted such as the planting of trees and clean up drives aimed at reducing plastic waste in the oceans.

Inkeepingwithitspracticeoforganizingclean-updrives across beaches in Mumbai and near JNPT as well, Allcargo Group, which is one of the largest integrated end-to-end logistics service providers in India, recently organized a clean-up drive. Previously, the team had cleaned up Juhu Beach,DadarBeachandCarterRoadBeach.Morerecently, on Saturday, July 15, 2023, a beach clean-up drive was organized at Carter Road, in collaboration with citizen movement, Carter Clean up, and Ek Saath Foundation. 450kgofplasticwastewascollectedforrecycling.
“Change only happens when we act. It’s important to walk the talk, and I believe that when it comes to the environment, it needs to be a collaborative effort. Not just within team members in an organization, but across the ecosystem. Allcargo Group has announced its goal of becoming carbon neutral by 2040, after embarking on a structured ESGjourneylastyear.
Its group company, Gati, is already supporting the carbon emission goals of organizations such as IKEA and Schneider Electric. In fact, Gati has also made public its intent to convert its entire pickup and delivery fleet to alternative fuel by 2025, and towards that effect has been investinginelectricvehicles(EV).
Allcargo has also gone and taken a step ahead and announced its head office in Mumbai to be a plastic free zone Regular disposable plastic items such as plastic bottles, cutlery, and bags have been done away with. Any visitors to the office are handed a strong cloth bag in exchangefortheirplasticbag.
With large logistics companies adopting a multipronged approach to be more conscious in their actions, they are settinganexampleforothersintheindustrytofollow.
