CEVA Logistics to expand in India through acquisition of Stellar Value Chain Solutions

MUMBAI: Stellar Value Chain has announced today that CEVA Logistics, a France-based world leader in third-party logistics and a part of the $75 billion CMA CGM Group, a global shipping and logistics giant, has signed an agreement to acquire controlling stake in Stellar Value Chain Solutions from an affiliate of private equity firm Warburg Pincus and other shareholders. The acquisition is expected to be completed in the coming weeks.

Incorporated in 2016 by Logistics veteran Anshuman Singh, Stellar Value Chain Solutions has grown into a key player in India in contract logistics with omni-channel fulfillment services in the eCommerce, Automotive, Consumer, food products, Fashion and Retail, Healthcare and Pharmaceuticals market segments Following the acquisition, Anshuman Singh will continue to hold his stake and lead the business as the CEO.

Post-acquisition, Stellar Value Chain Solutions will become a part of the third largest company in the world in contract logistics. The transaction will facilitate faster growth for Stellar thanks to the access to the top global clients of CEVA The acquisition will further boost the service offerings of Stellar. The unmatched combination of global presence and global clients of CEVA Logistics and the deep domestic contract logistics expertise and knowledge of Stellar will fuel the next phase of growth.

CEVA will acquire approximately 7.5 Mn square feet of carpet area (approx. 15 mn sft of Total Logistics area) of Stellar Value Chain Solutions across more than 70 facilities in 21 cities across India. In addition, CEVA will inherit the Stellar's workforce of nearly 8,000 full-time and temporary employees, who have strong expertise and relationships in India. The acquisition of Stellar will help CEVA diversify its presence in India, boosting its local workforce, assets, customer roster and capabilities. The deal strengthens CEVA’s strategy to provide its customers with end-to-end supply chain solutions.

Next step in CEVA’s strategic development in APAC

CEVA Logistics in India is currently present in 75 locations across 35 cities with approximately

2,700,000 square feet of warehouse space. With the acquisition, CEVA Logistics would become a much stronger player in Indian contract logistics space, offering its new customers global expertise and increased operational efficiency and innovation.

Trade Promotion Council of India to set up Industrial Clusters in India

NEW DELHI: Trade Promotion Council of India has signed a pact with World Furniture Confederation to set up modern industrial clusters for manufacturing furnitures in the country, which has a negligible share in the USD 250-billion global commerce of these goods.

The European Union (EU) and China export about USD 100 billion of furniture The US alone imports USD 72 billion worth of these goods and is the biggest importer

So there is a big opportunity for India to scale its export and reduce import dependence, TPCI Chairman Mohit Singla said, adding the memorandum of understanding (MoU) will promote engagement with global major furniture manufacturers.

The MoU envisages a collaboration between the global body and TPCI to set up furniture industrial clusters in India by sharing best practices, he said.

“Recent study of the potential sector has revealed

great demand for plug-and-play clusters as the only possible means of achieving competitiveness, which is much desired for import substitution and export prowess,” Singla said.

He added that furniture is clearly a big latent opportunity for India in terms of leveraging export “We have ample land, most affordable skilled labour and supporting logistics and warehouse infrastructure India enjoys zero duty on all considered products for export of furniture to the US market, which clearly underlines the big advantage to enter the US market,” he said.

Presently the Indian furniture industry is largely unorganisedandfragmented.Beinganun-organisedsector, it merely focuses on hand-made furniture. Setting of furniture clusters will allow the organized industry to do cost-effectivemanufacturingatgloballycompetitiveprices

“The cooperation will also bring foreign direct investment (FDI), boost India’s furniture export and reduce import dependency,” Singla said.

In addition, Shri Sonowal announced, emphasising the country’s commitment to quadrupling its port capacity under the Amrit Kaal Vision for Ports. He underlined that all major ports have prepared their Port Master Plans for 2047, and states are also getting their Port Master Plans for 2047 ready “The total country ’s Port capacity will increase from existing around 2,600 MTPA to more than 10,000 MTPA in 2047,” he said.

The two-day 19th Maritime State Development Council meeting at Kevadia, Gujarat, organised by the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways to enhance better coordination between major and notified ports, State Maritime Boards, State Governments and Union Territories (UTs) concluded on Saturday (19th August). MSDC is an apex advisory body constituted in May 1997 to develop the Maritime Sector. It aims to ensure the integrated development of Major and other notified ports.

Shri Sonowal added, “Under the leadership of PM Shri Narendra Modi, MoPSW is marking new achievements. He always believes in better cooperation, and the Maritime States Development Council emerges as a critical mechanism of cooperation and plays a pivotal role in shaping the trajectory of our Nation’s maritime sector.”

The Minister also alluded to India’s growing maritime stature and the upcoming Global Maritime India Summit 2023. The Union Minister announced that all maritime states and Union Territories will participate in the GMIS 2023, making it one of the largest summits in the country Global Maritime India Summit 2023 is scheduled to be held at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, from 17th-19th October 2023. GMIS 2023 is a premier maritime sector-focused event to bring together pivotal figures from the industry to explore opportunities, understand challenges, and stimulate investment within India’s maritime sector Building upon the legacy of its preceding editions of 2016 and 2021, this third edition of the summit aims to unveil broader prospects for domestic and international maritime stakeholders and investors Delegates from more than 100 countries are expected to participate in the summit with exhibitors and investors from various domains of the maritime sector

Besides, the minister underscored that the country’s maritime sector is currently poised for substantial growth,

with investment opportunities identified to be more than 10 lakh crore He stressed that this burgeoning financial prospect is more than an economic boom; it symbolises an opportunity to generate employment for over 15 lakh youths in the country, intertwining economic advancement with social empowerment. In alignment with this vision, the role of private players is being progressively augmented, with Public-Private Partnership (PPP) terminals currently handling about 50% of the cargo at Major Ports and efforts underway to raise their share to approximately 85% in the coming decades This strategic move towards privatisation is expected to enhance efficiency and facilitate the scaling of operations. Furthermore, there is a discernible focus on enhancing cargo movement on India’s National Waterways, which witnessed a 16% year-on-year increase in the last fiscal year Ambitious targets have been set to achieve a substantial quantum of 500 MTPA by 2047, underlining the government’s commitment to leveraging the maritime sectorasacatalystforcomprehensivenationalgrowth

Shri Sonowal alluded to the Sagarmala Programme, noting that over the past eight years, the strategic initiatives of the Sagarmala Programme have significantly enhanced port capacity, connectivity, and operational efficiency, driving down costs, shortening vessel turnaround times, accommodating larger ships, and elevating the strategic relevance of Indian ports in the South Asian region. Shri Sonowal encouraged all Coastal States and Union Territories Governments to offer unwavering support to MoPSW, MoRTH and MoR in expediting these vital projects.

While addressing the gathering, Shri Shripad Naik, Union Minister of State, MoPSW, said, “A steadfast emphasis should be placed on embracing new-age technologies, fostering sustainable living practices, and ensuring environmental safety By diligently addressing these key aspects, we can collectively contribute to the holistic betterment of our coastal populations.”

PM Modi and President Raisi discuss how to realise full potential of Chabahar Port

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi said recently that he spoke with Iranian President S e y y e d E b r a h i m R a i s i a n d discussed the realisation of the full potential of the Chabahar Port.

Visakhapatnam records 265% increase in warehousing in FY 2023

R e p o r t - 2 0 2 3 , Vi s a k h a p a t n a m recorded a sharp 265% increase in 2022-23 Retail and manufacturing sectors were the major drivers during FY 2023, accounting for

a warehousing demand share of 35% and 33% respectively The total warehousing in the city has reached to 11 lakh square meter mark during this period.

T h e G a j u w a k a -Au t o N a g a r cluster accounted for 29% of the warehousing transactions in 2022-23, whereas the Madhurawada cluster accounted for 71% of the volume. The transactions for the Visakhapatnam

warehousing market increased by 265% year-on-year during FY 2023, following a 228% YoY growth during FY 2022.

This growth in transactions was driven by the increase in demand from the retail, manufacturing, and e-commerce sectors. The market volume stood at 3 lakh square metre during FY 2022, which increased to 11 lakh square metre last fiscal

NMPA posts 9% growth in traffic during four months of this fiscal

MANGALORE: Union Minister of State for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Shripad Yesso Naik said on Sunday, August 20, that the New Mangalore Port recorded a 9% growth in traffic among all major ports in the country as of July in 2023-24. The port is expected to handle an all time highest cargo by the end of this financial year.

Speaking at the Karnataka region curtain raiser of Global Maritime I n d i a S u m m i t ( G M I S ) , 2 0 2 3 , scheduled in Delhi for three days from October 17, at New Mangalore Port Authority (NMPA), the Minister said that the performance of ports can determine trade competitiveness of

an economy The Indian maritime sector has seen rapid strides in ‘ease of doing’ business supported by digital transformation of port operations.

“West coast ports continue to dominate the cargo and container market in India This implies that there is a scope for higher capacity expansion. The New Mangalore Port being one of the league players on the West Coast envisages to be benefited from this increased trade. The New Mangalore Port has the strategic advantage of being a port with one of the highest capacities of over 105 million metric tonnes serving as a gateway to the booming state of Karnataka,” he said.

Govt imposes 40% duty on onion exports till December 31

NEW DELHI: The Centre has imposed 40% duty on onion exports till December 31 to check the rise in prices. The export duty comes amid reports that onion prices are likely to rise in September.

“ To i m p r o v e t h e d o m e s t i c availability of onions, government imposes 40% export duty on onions with immediate effect upto December 31, 2023,” the Finance Ministry said in a notification.

As per the data maintained by the

C o n s u m e r A f f a i r s M i n i s t r y, the all-India average retail price of onion was ruling at Rs 30 72 per kg on Saturday, with a maximum price at Rs 63 per kg and a minimum at Rs 10 per kg. In Delhi, onion was ruling at Rs 37 per kg on Saturday, as per the data. The trade data showed onion prices ruling at Rs 50 per kg in t h e n a t i o n a l c a p i t a l . E a r l i e r government had announced to release 3 lakh tonnes of onion from its buffer stock to increase availability

2.51 lakh tonnes of onion as buffer stock. The buffer stock is maintained under the Price Stabilisation Fund (PSF) to meet any exigencies, if rates go up significantly during the lean supply season.

A.P. Moller – Maersk to strengthen its distribution network in India with more than 500 Electric Vehicles

Within a year of deploying the first set of electric vehicles (EVs) in India, Maersk is all set to strengthen its EV fleet to over 500 vehicles in 26 cies covering first-, middle- and last-mile distribuon across India.

It is important not only for M a e r s k t o a c h i e v e t h e s e sustainability goals but for the customers too, who are demanding environmentally friendly solutions that would decarbonise their supply chains.

I n S e p t e m b e r 2 0 2 2 , Maersk unveiled its three-wheeler and four-wheeler EVs in Mumbai, India and soon rolled them out for its first customer in the NCR region. Since then, the awareness around EVs that can support distribution logistics in India has risen, and with that has come an unprecedented demand from several customers.

Vikash Agarwal, Managing Director, Maersk South Asia, said, “India is a large market with a constantly growing demand for distribution logistics. E-Commerce has particularly seen unprecedented growth in India over the last few years and has tremendous potential to keep growing in the coming years.” He added, “With growing e-Commerce came the g r o w i n g d e m a n d , e s p e c i a l l y f o r m i d d l e - a n d last-mile distribution. But it is not limited to just any distribution means – our customers are keen on decarbonising supply chains rapidly, and we are stepping in

to support them with our fleet of EVs in India.”

Maersk has recently tied up with a large e-Commerce platform in India to support its distribution requirements with a dedicated fleet of EVs that range in the capacity of 550 to 700 Kgs with a driving range of over 120 km. Over 200+ vehicles have already been deployed across 15 cities, and more than 300 EVs will be deployed in the next two months to another 11 cities across India for the e-Commerce platform.

Jitendra Kapoor, Head of M i d d l e M i l e & L a s t M i l e Distribution, Maersk South Asia, commented, “With a range of EVs available in our fleet, we are able to provide our customers the option to choose depending on the commodities they want to move and in the radius that they want to operate in. We have as small as two-wheelers that are delivering fresh ready-to-eat salads in the NCR region for a customer, to groceries and lifestyle items for another customer across the country.”

So far, Maersk’s EV fleet has covered more than 135,000 km. Maersk is also investing in creating a charging network for its fleet of EVs, including the option to harness solar energy at its own facilities for warehouses across the Country
