Deendayal Port Authority to Further Strengthen its Position as the Number 1 Cargo Handling Major Port Plans to increase handling capacity through projects worth Rs. 5963 crores

Cont’d. from Pg. 3 To cater to the future requirement of the hinterland and further benefit the downstream industries around the Gujarat and allied States, the Authority has decided to develop a Container Terminal and a Multipurpose Cargo Berth at Tuna-Tekra in the Kutch District. The Container terminal plans to handle next-generation vessels/deeper draught vessels up to 6000 TEUs to 21000 TEUs with a draught of 14m to 18m, respectively. The Estimated Cost & Optimal handling Capacity of the Terminal is Rs. 4243.64 Crores and 2.19 million TEU, respectively. Once operational, the terminal will be well equipped to tap into the container market growth in the region with better infrastructure and a state-of- Shri Nandeesh Shukla, IRTS, Deputy Chairman, Deendayal Port Authority addressing the Press Meet a r t w o r l d - c l a s s c o n t a i n e r f a c i l i t y.

Furthermore, the Multipurpose Cargo Berth plans to handle vessels up to 1,00,000 DWT to 2,10,000 with Vessels of Draught of 15m to 18m. The proposed facility shall be used for handling Multipurpose cargo, viz., food grains, fertilizers, coal, ores and minerals, steel cargo etc. The Estimated Cost & Optimal handling Capacity of the Terminal is Rs. 1719.22 Crores and 18.33 MMTPA, respectively. Once fully operational, the port is envisaged to shift the existing handling of Coal from Kandla to Tuna Tekra and cater to the future growth in Multipurpose Cargo (other than container/liquid) traffic. Deendayal Port Authority will develop these projects on a PPP model with a Concession Period of 30 years which and renewed/extended for another 20 years. The projects offer flexibility to construct, handle more than the estimated capacity and provision for change of scope. The Concessionaire can fix tariffs based on market conditions. The License Fee will be Re. 1/payable from the date of award of concession. While addressing the conference, Shri S. K. Mehta, IFS, Chairman, Deendayal Port Authority, said, “At Deendayal Port, we are focusing on six major strategic areas which include cargo and productivity improvement; landlord port development; port-led industrialization; coastal shipping and Ro -Ro; Ro -pax expansion;

Improvement in ease of doing business and cost of doing business and Green, Sustainable and Safe Port development. To further aid the handling capacity, these two Mega cargo handling projects will decongest the port and reduce waiting time for handling containers and cargo. Considering the immense opportunities available for growth, I invite the business fraternity here and the interested entrepreneurs who are keenly involved in the Maritime Sector, to participate in the tender for the two Mega Projects and join hands with DPA in the mutual interest for the overall benefit of the trade and nation at large.” The projects provide commercial flexibility as there will be excellent Road Connectivity up to Backup Area (to be constructed and maintained by DPA) with Railway Line up to the take-off point. Additionally, it provides a common access channel dredged for design vessel of 14m Draft for CT & 15m for MCB. The berthingdeberthing and pilotage of a ship & approval of the Collector of Customs for commercial operation will be the obligation of DPA. DPA handled 127.1 Million Metric Ton of cargo with an impressive growth rate of 8.11 % in the previous year. With the capacity addition through these mega projects, DPA will be able to fulfill its vision of handling more than 200 Million Metric Ton per annum by 2030 and place itself as the number one port in cargo handling, informed the DPA release.

Industry Body launched to boost ties between India & UAE NEW DELHI: Aimed at boosting trade ties between India and the United Arab Emirates, a new industry body The Indo-UAE Economic Chamber of Commerce was launched here on Sunday, 17th July, officials said. A memorandum of understanding was signed between MM Gems and Jewellers, and Majestic Investment, United Arab Emirates in this connection, a press release issued on Sunday, 17th July said. According to UAE-based Majestic Investments representative Sheikh Majid Rashid Al Mualla, the trade between the two countries grew to USD 59 billion in 2019 from USD 180 million in the 1970s.

Majority of sectors are focused on increasing trade between the two countries including services sector, sea t r a n s p o r t , p o w e r, construction, among others. ”The gems and jewellery sector contributes a substantial portion of India’s exports to the UAE and it is a sector that is expected to benefit significantly from the concessions obtained for Indian products under the Indo-UAE Comprehensive Economic

Partnership Agreement which came into force in May 2022,” Mulla said. “The UAE accounts for 80 per cent of studded jewellery exports to India,” he said.

Agri & Processed Food Products exports up by 14% to $ 5987 mn in the 1st Three months of fiscal NEW DELHI: Continuing with the trend from the previous year, the exports of agricultural and processed food products rose by 14 percent in the first three months of the current Financial Year 2022-23 (April-June) compared to the corresponding period of FY 2021-22. For the year 2022-23, the Government had set an export target of USD 23.56 billion for the agricultural and processed food products basket under APEDA. The initiatives taken by the Ministry of Commerce & Industry have helped the Country in achieving 25 percent of the total annual export target in the first three months of the current fiscal. According to the Quick Estimates data released by the Directorate General of Commercial Intelligence and Statistics (DGCI&S), the overall export of products under APEDA ambit (Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority) increased to USD 5987

million in April- June 2022 from USD 5256 million over the same period of the last fiscal. The export target for April-June 2022-23 was USD 5890 million. The APEDA basket excludes Tea, coffee, spices, cotton and marine exports. The exports of fresh fr uits & vegetables registered 8.6 percent growth, while processed food products like cereals and miscellaneous processed items reported an impressive growth of 36.4 percent (April- June 2022-23) compared to corresponding months of the previous year. In April-June, 2021, fresh fr uits and vegetables were exported to the tune of USD 642 million that increased to USD 697 million in the corresponding months of the current fiscal. Other cereals’ e x p o r t i n c r eased from USD 237 million in April-June 2021to USD 306 million in April-June 2022 and the export of meat, dairy and poultry products increased from USD 1023

million in April-June 2021 to USD 1120 million in April-June 2022. Rice exports witnessed a growth of 13 percent in the first three months of FY 2022-23, while the export of meat, dairy & poultry products increased by 9.5 percent and export of other cereals increased by 29 percent. The export of rice increased from USD 2412 million in April-June 2021 to USD 2723 million in April-June 2022.The dairy products were exported to the tune of USD 1120 million in the first three months of the current fiscal from million in the same period last year. India’s agricultural products exports had grown by 19.92 per cent during 202122 to touch USD 50.21 billion. The growth rate is remarkable as it is over and above the growth of 17.66 per cent at USD 41.87 billion achieved in 2020-21 and has been achieved in spite of unprecedented logistical challenges in the form of high freight rates and container shortages, etc.

Commerce Ministry appoints 29 Members in Board of Trade to deliberate on boosting exports NEW DELHI: The Government has nominated 29 non-official members from large and small enterprises and different sectors in the Board of Trade. The board, which includes participants from States, Union Territories, senior officials from public and private sectors, provides a platform to discuss ways on boosting manufacturing and exports. In 2019, the Gover nment had m e r g e d t h e C o u n c i l o f Tr a d e Development and Promotion with the Board of Trade to bring greater coherence in the consultation process with all stakeholders for promoting exports and imports, according to a notification of the Commerce Ministry. The new non- official members include Tata Consultancy Services Chief Executive Officer and

Managing Director Rajesh Gopinathan, KKR India Advisor Sanjay Nayar, L aghu Udyog Bharati Executive Member Om Prakash Mittal. India Cellular and Electronics Association Chair man Pankaj Mahindroo, GCMMF (Amul) Managing Director RS Sodhi, and Arun Mandal, Chief Executive Officer, Bidhannagar Pineapple Development Trust, West Bengal, are some of the other nonofficial members, it said. The members are entrusted with the task of providing a platform to State Governments and UTs for articulating State-oriented perspectives on trade policy; to act as facilitator in implementation of District Export Hub events including sensitization workshops, identification and

promotion of identified products. They would also help states develop and pursue export strategies in line with national Foreign Trade Policy; facilitate a mechanism for discussion on operationalisation of the trade infrastr ucture; and review policy instruments and procedure for imports and exports and suggest steps to rationalize use, it added. The official members include secretaries of different departments like revenue, commerce, health and agriculture besides NITI Aayog CEO, Deputy Governor of RBI, and CBIC (Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs) Chairman. Further, it also has representatives of industry chambers as ex-officio members.

National Highways length rises by 50 % in 7 years: Govt sources NEW DELHI: The length of national highways has risen by more than 50 per cent in over seven years. While the total length of national highways was 91,287 km in April 2014, it was around 1,41,000 km by the end of 2021. The BJP Government came to

power at the Centre in May 2014. The pace of construction of the national highways has increased from 12 km per day to 37 km per day in 2020-21, sources said. They said the Modi government has focused greatly on connectivity and

infrastructure since the beginning of its term. This focus on connectivity can be gauged from the budgetary allocation of Rs 1.99 lakh crore to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways in the 2022-23 budget.

RBI : India on course to become World’s fastest-growing economy NEW DELHI: India’s economy has remained resilient in the face of global headwinds and with inflation coming off its recent peak is expected to stay on course to become the world’s fastestgrowing economy, the Reserve Bank of India said. The recent revival of the southwest monsoon and renewed planting raised expectations that rural demand will soon catch up with urban spending and consolidate a recovery, the RBI said in a bulletin. “Knock-on effects of geopolitical spillovers are visible in several sectors, t a p e r i n g t h e p a c e o f r e c o v e r y, ”

the central bank said. “In spite of this overwhelming shock, there are sparks in the wind that ignite the innate strength of the economy and set it on course to becoming the fastest growing economy in the world, though besieged it might be by fears of recession.” It did not give a time frame. RBI said if the commodity price moderation witnessed in recent weeks endures alongside the easing of supply chain pressures, the worst of the recent surge in inflation will be over. India’s annual consumer inflation remained painfully above the 7% mark

and beyond the central bank’s tolerance band for the sixth month in a row, data last week showed. “There is some evidence now that supply-chain pressures are peaking globally and in India, so that a major source of upward inflation pressures may be ebbing,” the bank said. Referring to the impact of high global crude prices on India’s current account deficit (CAD), RBI said the CAD could widen to 2.3% of GDP in 2022/23 if oil prices average $105 per barrel. It would widen to 2.8% if oil averages $120 per barrel but still remain “within the sustainable limit of 3%”.

Gross absorption in Industrial & Warehousing facilities up 7% YoY : Colliers India MUMBAI: Activity in Grade A industrial and warehousing facilities continues to be resilient, with gross absorption during H1 2022 in the top 5 cities at 10.8 million sq feet, a 7% increase YoY, mentioned Colliers. Delhi-NCR accounted for the highest activity at 28% share, followed by Pune with 24% share in demand. However, on the supply side, vacancy declined by 24% YoY to 11.8 million sq feet in H1 2022. About 55% of the gross absorption was led by third-party logistics players, followed by the Engineering and Automobile sectors with a share of 12% each.

The first half of this year has seen several large deals with average deal size up 27% YoY. Grade A supply in preferred micro markets across key markets in India continues to remain muted owing to construction slowdown on account of rise in construction costs. This has led to short-term rent increases. ThirdParty Logistics players continue to dominate demand in the first half of this year and the trend is expected to continue in the next few quarters as well. We are also witnessing more Tier II city enquiries as key players are strengthening their last-mile

delivery supply chain to be proximate to customers,” said Shyam Arumugam, Managing Director, Industrial and Logistics Services, Colliers India. “Occupiers, especially third-party logistics players and e-commerce players are increasingly taking up larger integrated warehousing space. On the supply side, we may see some limitations over the next few quarters as developers face supply chain constraints and rising input cost m a t e r i a l s , ” s a y s V i m a l N a d a r, S e n i o r D i r e c t o r, a n d H e a d o f Research Colliers India.

Emergence of new COVID variants a risk to Global economic outlook: Moody's MUMBAI: Though the overall virus-related concerns have eased with COVID infections becoming less deadly, a spike in new infections across G-20 economies is, however, a reminder that the emergence of newer and more dangerous variants remains a risk to the global economic outlook, said global research and

rating agency Moody's in a report 'Economic Pulse Check: Alternative Data Monitor'. As central banks across the globe tighten monetary policy more aggressively through interest rate hikes in order to curb the rising inflation, financial conditions have now become less favorable.

"Higher borrowing costs are adding to pressures on households and firms, increasing risks to aggregate demand," it said in the report. Economic activity has slowed further, as inflation and tightening credit conditions weaken consumer and business sentiment, thereby denting purchasing power.

Rupee fall fuels inflation, but makes exports competitive: Experts NEW DELHI: Rupee depreciation has impacted the current account deficit and fuelled inflationary pressures but at the same time it has made Indian exports more competitive, according to experts. The Indian rupee has been depreciating against the USD dollar and is nearing the psychologically key mark of 80, making imports expensive. "The depreciation of the rupee has

multiple impacts on the economy. Given we have a negative trade balance, though a depreciation of the rupee makes our exports more competitive, our import bills go up significantly. "It has an impact on the current account deficit thus further putting pressure on the rupee as well as imports inflation too as the price of imports in rupee terms is higher," s a i d R a n e n B a n e r j e e , L e a d e r,

Economic Advisory Services, PwC India. A recent report by the finance ministry cautioned that India's current account deficit (CAD) is expected to deteriorate in the current fiscal on account of costlier imports and tepid merchandise exports. Primarily driven by an increase in the trade deficit, the CAD stood at 1.2 per cent of GDP in 2021-22.

COSCO SHIPPING Holdings : Net Profits rises 74.45% in H1 2022 (YoY) BEIJING: COSCO SHIPPING Holdings released an announcement on the half-year results projection for 2022 recently. The net profit attributable to equity holders of the listed company for the first half of 2022 is expected to be approximately RMB64.716 billion, representing an increase of approximately RMB27.618 billion or 74.45% compared with the same period of the previous year. The net profit after nonrecurring gain and loss attributable to equity holders of the listed company for the first half of 2022 is expected to be approximately RMB64.436 billion, representing an increase of about RMB27.416 billion or 74.06% year-over-year. The EBIT for the first half of 2022 is expected to be approximately RMB95.245 billion, representing an increase of about RMB45.658 billion or 92.08% year-over-year. In the first half of 2022, the supply and demand of international container transportation service was relatively

tight and the export freight rates of main routes remained high. During the reporting period, the average value of China Container Freight Index (CCFI) was 3,286.03 points, representing a year-over-year increase of 59%. During the reporting period, the global supply chain was severely sluggish due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, and global customers put forward higher requirements on the stability and resilience of the supply chain. By adhering to the business philosophy of “customer first,” COSCO SHIPPING Holdings has been working to ensure fleet capacity and to meet the market demand for containers, providing flexible alternative solutions, such as “water-to-water” transit and “water-rail" intermodal transport, and fully utilizing technological innovation and digitalization in the supply chain system to help customers tide over the challenging times and contribute to the stability of global supply chains.

APM Terminals announces Americas organization Regional structure aims to be er serve customers and accelerate way of working opera ng model CHARLOTTE: In line with the company’s Safer, Better, Bigger growth strategy, APM Terminals has announced a new regional structure to serve customers. To accelerate customer growth, improve speed of decision-making, operational execution and agility across geographical regions, APM Terminals is integrating five global regions into three regions. This was the outcome of a commercial study that analyzed the structure and requirements of global and regional customer networks and how to better serve their future needs for vessel schedule changes, berth windows, terminal yard needs, truck gates, inland transportation flows, empty equipment flows and business continuity plans. Equally important, the pandemic has clearly shown customers want to be able to tap market revenue opportunities faster and address changes in markets with equal ease – as consumer buying patterns fluctuate. The new regions will be Americas, Africa/Europe and

Asia Pacific effective July 12th. By combining the full Americas scope across North America and South America, APM Terminals will be better able to serve both East/West trades, North/South trades and landside supply chains in a more holistic, effective manner. Leo Huisman, the current APM Terminals Latin America Regional Managing Director for the past three years based in Panama has been appointed Regional Managing Director of APM Terminals Americas. Leo has also served as Regional Managing Director of APM Terminals Europe and brings extensive liner industry experience to the role. “We want to continuously improve our way of working for customers and this more integrated approach to our Americas regional structure commercially, operationally and sustainably enables us to get into a higher gear for customer performance and our ESG goals,” added Mr. Huisman. In the Americas, APM Ter minals operates in 15 terminals and 7 inland services sites in 11 countries.
