Sharing her experience on the visit and interactions with the LPAI officials Ms. Chaitaly said, “Petrapole is managed by the Land Port Authority of India (LPAI) where LPAI administers and manages all the facilities, infrastructure, etc with futuristic views. It was very interesting to learn and see Women working in Petrapole. Women workforce at LPAI constitutes more than 12% of its total employees at this Land Port. The Women Workforce is maximum in BSF followed by Customs, Immigration etc.”

According to Ms Chaitaly, the purpose of the visit was to understandwhat differentiatesanICP from an airport to a sea port and ICD, how logistics activities are carried out at an ICP and what exactly is an ICP Especially, challenges before the women logistics practitioners at a border customs post were thefocusarea

The FFFAI Women’s Wing Convenor highlighted some startling facts pertaining to the Petrapole border She pointed out that Petrapole has recorded largest Cross Border Trade through Land; highest trade for any land border in South Asia; Highest trade for any land b o r d e r i n S o u t h A s i a ; daily influx and outgo of around 8-10 thousand passengers per day; daily cargo trucks in and out 800 to 1000 again the highest foranybordertrade

S h e l a u d e d t h e L PA I initiatives on digitalisation of international trade via this border “E-Suvidha Portal launched a couple of months ago has brought down the waiting time from 30-40 days for cargo vehicles to just 48 hrs. In addition, Petrapole has ICEGATE thus docs are being filed online unlike manual before,” Ms. Chaitaly shared.

She also informed that Plant Quarantine and Animal Quarantine offices are located inside Petrapole ICP and Talks with FSSAI are underway. Cold Storage Room facilities are readily available.

Ms. Chaitaly commended the LPAI team comprising Mr. Kamlesh Saini, Manager, LPAI Petrapole Land Port and Mr. Shobhan Biswas, Executive Assistant, LPAI , Petrapole Land Port for their tremendous support to the FFFAI team during their visit The LPAI officials also provided details on Petrapole through PPT regarding how this strategic land port has become one of India’s busiest land ports and what it entails for the future.

Earlier FFFAI Women team had an opportunity to interact with Mr. Aditya Mishra, Chairman, LPAI, one day prior in Kolkata when he spoke about LPAI and its future in Indian Logistics Industry in a special session during the FFFAI EC meeting conducted in Kolkata.

Remarkably, Mr. Anil Kumar Singh, AC Customs, Petrapole Land Port also met with the FFFAI Women’s Wing members to elaborate on the Customs role and their area of operationsatthislandport

In addition, the FFFAI team met with Mr. Alok Singh, CO, 145 Bn BSF, Petrapole Land Port under whose seasoned command Petrapole’s security lies. The FFFAI members walked up to the Zero point both at the cargo and passenger terminals.

The IMS/IM1 service to and from Jebel Ali will be the eighth regular service from DP World Mundra and the twelfth regular service from DP World Nhava Sheva. The key beneficiaries of the services will be the large enterprises along with the SME and MSME clusters across the North and West Indian states of Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, and Madhya Pradesh. The multimodal network of DP World will allow these clusters to link to the port terminals in Nhava Sheva and Mundra by road and rail.

Cabinet approves Mutual Recognition Arrangement of Authorised Economic Operators between India and Australia

N E W D E L H I : T h e C a b i n e t chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, has approved the signing and ratification of the Mutual Recognition Arrangement (MRA) between the Central Board of Indirect taxes and Customs (CBIC), D e p a r t m e n t o f R e v e n u e , Gover nment of India and the D e p a r t m e n t o f H o m e A f f a i r s incorporating the Australian Border Force, Australian Government.

The arrangement is aimed at providing reciprocal benefits to

accredited and trusted exporters of both the signatories in the clearance of goods by the Customs authorities of the importing country Mutual recognition of Authorized Economic Operators is a key element of the World Customs Organisation’s SAFE Framework of Standards to secure and facilitate global trade to strengthen end-to-end security of supply chains while providing higher facilitation to trade at the global level. This arrangement shall benefit our exporters to Australia and thereby

promote a trade relationship between the two countries.

M u t u a l R e c o g n i t i o n o f t h e Australian Trusted Trader Program in Australia and the Authorized Economic Operator Program in India shall enter into force from the date of s i g n i n g b y t h e a u t h o r i z e d representatives of both the countries. The text of the proposed Mutual Recognition Arrangement has been finalized with the concurrence of the Customs Administrations of both the countries.

India open to more FTAs; focus to go beyond trade: Commerce Secretary

NEW DELHI: India is open to more free trade agreements, and the focus of future agreements will go beyond trade, according to Sunil Barthwal, Secretary, Department of Commerce.

Outlining the progress India has made in free trade agreements, Barthwal pointed out that a lot of countries were approaching India to sign FTAs, and the country would also consider its strategic needs before signing these agreements.

'Looking at FTAs from strategic needs, in addition to trade,' Barthwal said, highlighting that critical mineral

supply, from the point of view of the energy transition, was one area the country was considering.

Peru and Chile are the two Latin American countries which have expressed interest in signing an FTA with India. Bangladesh and Sri Lanka have also expressed interest.

India is in the process of finalising its FTA with the United Kingdom.

R e c e n t l y, I n d i a c o n c l u d e d negotiations on 19 of the 26 chapters and hopes to complete the process before the end of the year.

India is also negotiating the C o m p r e h e n s i v e E c o n o m i c

C o o p e r a t i o n A g r e e m e n t w i t h Australia. Last year, it had signed I n d i a - A u s t r a l i a E c o n o m i c Cooperation Agreement, which came into force on December 29, 2022.

The United Arab Emirates and India entered into a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) last year, which saw trade between the countries increase 16% to $84 5 billion in FY23 from $72 9 billion in FY22.

The Ministry said that talks were also undergoing for agreements with Canada, European Union and for the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework.

India's imports from Russia doubled to USD 20.45 billion in April-July period

NEW DELHI: India's Russian imports doubled to USD 20 45 billion during the April-July period o f F Y 2 4 o w i n g t o i n c r e a s i n g inbound shipments of crude oil and fertiliser, according to the data r e l e a s e d b y t h e C o m m e r c e Ministry

With this, Russia has become India's second largest import source during the first four months of this fiscal. The imports were USD 10.42 billion during April-July 2022.

From a market share of less than 1 per cent in India's import basket before the Russia-Ukraine war, Moscow's share of India's oil imports rose to over 40 per cent.

India, the world's third-largest

crude importer, has been buying Russian oil that was available at a d i s c o u n t a f t e r s o m e i n t h e West shunned it as a means of punishing Moscow for Ukraine war.

The Ministry's data also shows India's imports from China have dipped to USD 32.7 billion during the A p r i l - J u l y p e r i o d a s a g a i n s t USD 34.55 billion in the same period last year

Similarly, imports from the US declined to USD 14.23 billion during the period under review from USD 17.16 billion in April-July 2022.

The imports from UAE too contracted to USD 13.39 billion during April-July 2023 as against USD 18.45 billion in the same period last year

O n t h e e x p o r t f r o n t , India's exports to seven of its top 10 destinations have recorded a negative growth rate during the period.

During the first four months of this fiscal, the country's merchandise exports to the US, UAE, China, Singapore, Germany, Bangladesh and Italy have dipped.

However, the exports to the UK, Netherland, and Saudi Arabia have recorded a positive growth.

India's exports contracted by 15.88 per cent, the sixth month in a row, to USD 32.25 billion in July this year due to a global slowdown and fall in shipments of key sectors like petroleum, gems and jewellery

RightShip, NYK, and Solverminds collaborate to enhance operational efficiency for Shipowners and Ship managers

SINGAPORE: This transformative new technology has been developed in collaboration with ESG-focused digital maritime platform RightShip, shipping company NYK, and technology firm Solverminds.

RightShip, NYK, and Solverminds announce their collaboration on a p r o d u c t t h a t l i n k s N i B i K i , the NYK Group’s common platform for ship-management operations, with RightShip’s data platform, to transform the workloads of ship owners and managers.

This new technology, Port State Control (PSC) Submission API, initially launched on RightShip’s e-commerce platform RightSTORE, is designed to share data across both RightShip’s and NYK’s platforms and is expected to become a benchmark for similar operational efficiency services that are expected to develop further throughout the shipping industry.

The product integrates a ship manager’s ERP system directly into the RightShip platform using an API data flow This can save hundreds of man hours and significantly improve efficiency across ship management groups of all sizes. Annually, RightShip closes out around 39,000 PSC deficiencies in the platform.

The PSC Submission API enables users to instantly submit and receive PSC inspection and deficiency data without the need to switch between separate platforms.

Flexible and adaptable to the individual needs of each business, the API allows users to focus less on manual data entry and more on what matters: their operations.

Mawani Ports report 18.86% Container Volume surge in July

R I YA D H : Tr a d e h u b s overseen by t h e S a u d i Ports Authority (Mawani) have handled a consolidated container volume of 753,496 TEUs across the previous month, outpacing last year’s July throughput of 633,921 by 18.86%.

Detailed data published by the national maritime regulator further shows a 34.56% scale-up in exported containers to 250,004 TEUs from 185,791 TEUs in the previousyearalongsidea30.09%growthin imported containers from 180,329 TEUs to 234,592 TEUs in the present year. Transshipments also followed a similar upward trend, ticking up 0.41% over last year’s tally of 267,802 TEUs to attain 268,901TEUsinJuly2023.

On the other hand, cargo volumes were down 9.84% from 27,836,906 tons in the prior year to 25,096,888 tons in the current year, contributed in a large part by 472,657 tons of general cargo, 4,098,207 tons of dry bulk cargo, and 12,654,361 tons of liquid bulk cargo. Similarly, food commodities processed across the

preceding month stood at 1,590,394 t o n s , a 1 6 9 3 % d e c r e a s e i n comparison to 1,914,437 tons in July 2022.

Moreover, July vessel traffic was e s t i m a t e d a t 1 , 0 1 7 v e s s e l s , a 2 94% rise from 988 vessels during t h e s a m e p e r i o d l a s t y e a r, with passenger numbers recording a 32 57% yearly gain from 57,730 pax to 76,532 pax Likewise, livestock trade equaled 222,327 cattle heads, a 63 84% slump against 614,823 cattle heads in 2022, while vehicles imports hit a total of 91,137 units, up 14 34% year-on-year in contrast to 79,708 units

AD Ports Group Delivers 66% Year-on-Year Revenue Growth in Q2 2023

Ports Group today a n n o u n c e d i t s financial results for the second quarter of 2023, reporting revenue growth of 66% YoY to AED 2.1 billion, driven by volume growth in key sectors, business diversification as well as local, regional, and international expansion both organically and through M&A Revenue growth reached 44% YoY on a like-for-like basis (LFL), excluding effect from M&A activity. Maritime, Digital, and Ports Clusters were the key growth drivers with 208%, 26%, and 22% YoY, respectively

AD Ports Group Q2 2023 EBITDA rose by 29% YoY to AED 686 million, mainly driven by Maritime, Digital, and Ports Clusters as well as acquisitions (+13% YoY on a LFL basis). Change in the revenue mix, lower share of profits from JVs and associates, and ramp-up/one-off costs associated with new businesses resulted in a normalisation of EBITDA margin to 33.3% for the quarter vs. 38.5% in Q2 2022.

Total Net Profit increased by 3% YoY to AED 310 million in Q2 2023 as EBITDA growth was diluted by the increase in depreciation and amortisation charges as well as finance costs associated with deployment of new assets with deferred revenue effect.

The Group’s Net Operating Cash Flows continued to improve to AED 508 million in Q2 2023 while Capital Expenditures (CapEx) reached AED 1.8 billion as per plan.

Net Debt to EBITDA ratio stood at 3.5x at the end of Q2 2023, but was distorted by completion of the Noatum acquisition on 30 June 2023, which was fully funded through debt in Q2 but with P&L effect only from Q3 onwards.

The Maritime Cluster reported an impressive revenue growth of 208% YoY to AED 1,160 million, primarily driven by the feedering (container and bulk) and offshore logistics and services business segments (+161% YoY on LFL basis).

The Economic Cities & Free Zones Cluster reported a 10% YoY decline to AED 441 million mainly due to temporary lower utilisation of Razeen staff accommodation as it ceased to be used as COVID-19 isolation and quarantine facilities. This decline was partly offset by the consolidation of Eskan Al Jamae (EAJ) since the beginning of the year and higher revenues from land leases. An additional 0.7 sq km (net) of new land leases were added in Q2 2023, taking the total land leased under the EC&FZ Cluster to 66.1 sq km.

The Ports Cluster reported Q2 2023 revenue growth of 22% YoY (+15% YoY on a LFL basis), with container volumes growing 10% YoY to 1 21 million TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units). The Cluster also delivered 64% YoY growth in Ro-Ro volumes, 152% YoY growth in the number cruise passengers, and 40% YoY growth in general cargo volumes. In June, AD Ports Group secured a 50-year concession agreement for the existing container terminal operations of the Port of Karachi, which resulted in immediate earnings contribution.

The Logistics Cluster contributed AED 127 million to the Group’s revenue in Q2 2023, representing a 3% YoY increase as 8% YoY growth in polymer volumes was partly offset by cessation of COVID-19 vaccine business.

The Digital Cluster reported a 26% YoY increase to AED 117 million, supported by the newly acquired TTEK (completed on 22nd May), which develops and deploys border control solutions and customs systems, and strong performance of ATLP related services. The Cluster’s revenue growth reached 22% YoY on a LFL basis.

Going forward, AD Ports Group’s revenue mix is likely to be more balanced across four of its five Clusters with the recently completed acquisition of Noatum, a global integrated logistics services provider with a presence in 26 countries across five continents. The Spain-headquartered company generated revenue and EBITDA of AED 5.69 billion (EUR 1.39 billion) and AED 433 million (EUR 106 million) in the last twelve months as at 30th June 2023, respectively, performing in line with expectations since the transaction was announced.

Based on 2023’s first six months financial performance for both AD Ports Group and Noatum, the latter accounts for over 50% of AD Ports Group’s revenue and 13% of its EBITDA.

Q2 2023 Key Highlights

In addition to the completion of the Noatum acquisition these are the key business developments that took place in Q2 2023.

In June 2023, AD Ports Group announced a concession agreement with Karachi Port Trust (KPT), the Pakistani federal government agency that oversees the operations of the Port of Karachi. Under the terms of the 50-year concession agreement, a UAE-based company has been f o r m e d t o m a n a g e , o p e r a t e a n d d e v e l o p t h e Karachi Gateway Terminal Limited (KGTL), berths 6-9 at Karachi Port’s East Wharf. The terminal’s revenues are all dollarised with no foreign exchange exposure to the Pakistani Rupee. Over the past five years, the terminal has been generating revenue of around AED 200 million (USD 55 million) and EBITDA of around AED ~110 million (USD 30 million) annually

An additional announcement in June included the signing of a 30-year concession agreement with the Government of the Republic of the Congo for managing and operating the multipurpose New East Mole Terminal at Pointe-Noire AD Ports Group will invest more than AED ~1.84 billion (USD 500 million) over the lifetime of the concession, with around AED ~810 million (USD 220 million) allocated for phase 1, which is expected to be completed over the next 30 months.

AD Ports Group and Premier Marine Engineering Services LLC (Premier Marine) formed a new joint venture, SAFEEN Drydocks in June 2023 The joint venture is structured as a 51% ownership by AD Ports Group and 49% by Premier Marine The hub of SAFEEN Drydocks’ operations will be located at Khalifa Port and will encompass a 45,000 sqm shipyard and repair facility, 350m quay wall for vessel afloat repair, and a floating dry dock for vessel maintenance and refurbishment.

The Group also signed a 25-year agreement with Singapore based Crystal Offshore, a recognised one-stop logistics solution provider to the Marine & Offshore industry. Under the terms of the agreement, a 20,000 sqm plot of land and an associated quay wall in Khalifa Port will be allocated for Crystal Offshore to construct a base, featuring office facilities and fabrication workshops to provide advanced repairs and refits to jack-up rigs as well as marine and offshore vessels.

Khalifa Port, AD Ports Group flagship deep-water port was ranked the 3rd most efficient container port globally in the recently published Container Port Performance Index (CPPI) developed by the World Bank and S&P Global Market Intelligence.

In July 2023, Khalifa Economic Zones Abu Dhabi –KEZAD Group, the integrated trade, logistics and industrial hub of Abu Dhabi, and Al Jazeera Steel Products Co held the ground-breaking ceremony of the region’s first rolling mill with rail production capability in Abu Dhabi on 12th July 2023. The state-of-the-art, innovative and cutting-edge 450,000 tons per annum medium section mill will cover an area of 210,000 sqm in KEZAD and will cater to the growing customer demand for steel products as well as other growing requirements for products produced efficiently through KEZAD.
