6 17th JUNE 2022

Avashya Foundation organises Mango Mania Festival to support environment and rural livelihood • Farmers from Karjat and Mokhada sell over1000 dozens of mangoes to the company employees at Allcargo Mumbai headquarter • Maitree ini a ve for environment conserva on and rural livelihood support aims to plant one million trees by 2024

Cont’d. from Pg. 2

At the day-long celebration, the farmers from Karjat and Mokhada in Maharashtra sold more than 1000 dozens of mangoes to Allcargo employees. The yearly occasion is a part of Avashya Foundation's Maitree initiative which aims to promote environment conservation and support livelihood generation among communities from the rural areas of Maharashtra. The mangoes sold at the festival were produced by the trees planted under Maitree. While commenting on the success of Mango Mania, A r a t h i S h e t t y, N o n - E x e c u t i v e D i r e c t o r, Allcargo Logistics said, "Mango Maniais one of the many high points of Maitree. The festival is a testimony to our commitment to support rural communities by encouraging them to plant trees for conserving the environment and generating sustainable livelihoods. The encouraging response from our colleagues at Allcargo at the annual festival has further strengthened our resolve to plan a more widespread roll-out of Maitree with a goal to plant 1 million trees by 2024 and support the beneficiary communities to market the produce effectively. We continue to organise such initiatives to make people in our company aware of the importance of environment conservation and the goal of Maitree to make farmers self-reliant sustainably."

To support and build deeper association with the target communities through Maitree, Avashya Fo u n d a t i o n c o l l a b o r a t e d w i t h M u m b a i headquartered Light of Life Trust and Mokhadabased Diganta Swaraj Foundation, both working towards empowering underprivileged rural communities. The inclusive engagement helped farmers become aware of the various aspects of the lifecycle of a tree, the effective use of water, prevention of attacks from bugs and animals, etc., and monitor the growth of trees. The experts also helped them for m co - operative societies so that the beneficiary communities were able to market their produces at good rates. Maitree has so far supported 15,000 farmers in Maharashtra and under the project, 717975 fruit bearing saplings have been planted and subsequently nurtured in Karjat in Raigad district and Jawhar and Mokhadain Palghar district. A mixed range of 11 tree species have been planted to promote environmental biodiversity in those regions.

JM Baxi mulls Port related bids : Dhruv Kotak Also proposing an Ini al Public Offering (IPO) of Rs. 2,500 crore Cont’d. from Pg. 2

“The National Monetisation Pipeline of the Government of India (GOI) is lining up 30-to-40 projects in the next 3-to-5 years,” Mr. Dhruv Kotak, Managing Director, JMBPLL, was quoted as saying recently. “Thanks to GOI’s initiatives such as National Infrastructure Pipeine, National Monetisation Pipeline, PM Gati Shakti as well as PLI scheme, the bidding opportunity for emerging projects with respect to the privatisation of Major Ports (including on a BOT basis) will be worth around Rs. 20,000 crore,” he said. “We are targeting to bid for major port projects valued at anything from Rs. 3,000 crore to Rs. 5,000 crore out of this huge pie subject to various feasibility and competitive bidding parameters,” he added. JMBPLL will also target to bid an additional Rs. 1,500-to- Rs. 2,000 crore in mostly brownfield projects in the port-linked land infrastructure side during the next five years, Mr. Kotak added. The proposed investment in these projects would be financed through a mix of debt, internal accruals and even the capital market, he further said. The company is proposing an Initial Public Offering (IPO) of Rs. 2,500 crore wherein Private Equity player Bain Capital will exit partly. Bain Capital had invested

Rs. 1,500 crore in the company during the pandemic. The IPO will comprise a fresh issue for organic growth initiatives, including creation of a strong balance sheet anticipating the future growth potentials. “We have an ‘Asset-Right’ approach – brownfield asset acquisitions followed by methodical ramp-up leading to superior returns. The capital-efficient model ensures that we have one of the highest ROCE amongst key competitors in container terminal industry,” Mr. Kotak said. The company with 5 Terminals and 4 logistics assets offers specialised logistics solutions to various stakeholders. It is working towards having one entire port terminal to be fully manned by women. According to Mr. Kotak, ports in Eastern part of India comprising Paradip, Visakhapatnam and Haldia are underserved markets at this point but are growing fastest in maritime logistics. “They have a huge potential due to natural minerals and resources in the region as well as their strategic locations as gateways to the Far East countries,” he said. JMBPLL is planning expansion of Paradip Port, the second largest multipurpose Major Port in India and the first container handling facility of Odisha with significant growth potential. It has ramped up capacity utilisation to 70% and now Paradip exclusively handles clean cargo and containers.

Gujarat’s Sanand Industrial Hub to get DFC link by August AHMEDABAD : Gujarat’s industrial hub Sanand, where major manufacturing units of Tata Motors, Nestle, Parle, Posco India, Coca Cola, Bosch, Hitachi Hirel, Alstom Bharat Forge, Colgate-Palmolive and others are situated, is all set to connect with the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (WDFC) by the end of August. “Of the total 1,504 km of double line electric tracks planned between Rewari to Mumbai as part of WDFC, more than 720 km have already become operational from Rewari to Mehsana. At present 80 to 100 goods trains are running on WDFC daily. Another 80-km electric track from Mehsana to Sanand, on the outskirts of Ahmedabad will be commissioned in the next couple of months,” Ravindra Kumar Jain, Managing Director at Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Limited (DFCCIL), said. The ministry of railways formed DFCCIL, a Special Purpose Vehicle for construction, operation and

maintenance of the dedicated freight Corridors (DFCs) in the Country. DFCCIL was set up in 2006 with the mandate to build, operate, and maintain dedicated freight railway lines along the Golden Quadrilateral rail routes and its diagonals. Due to WDFC connectivity, not only Sanand industrial hub but industries at the upcoming Mandal–Becharaji Special Investment Region (SIR) will also benefit. Suzuki Motor and Honda Scooters already have plants here. WDFC passes through Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat and Maharashtra. Nearly 38% (565 km) of the total length of WDFC passes through Gujarat’s 12 districts. Due to WDFC, Gujarat-based ports including Pipavav, Mundra, Kandla, Hazira and others will get a big boost in importexport traffic movement. Jain claims that Gujarat’s 565 route kilometres (RKM) will become operational by the end of the current financial year. Except 100 km of RKM

from New Palghar to JNPT (Mumbai), the entire WDFC is expected to be commissioned by June 2023 as DFCCIL is facing issues related to environment clearance and land acquisition. The entire Western Corridor is being funded through a loan from Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in two phases. JICA agreed to give a loan of nearly Rs 210 billion for phase-I RewariVadodara (947 RKM) and Rs 180 billion for phase-2 Vadodara–JNPT (430 RKM). Once fully operational, up to 500 trains will run on WDFC daily. In fact, DFCCIL had planned to make WDFC and Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor (EDFC) by June 2022, but due to Covid-19 pandemic, pace of work slowed down. “EDFC’s 1340 RKM form will be commissioned by the end of June 2023. At present 620 RKM out of total is operational. Nearly 60 trains are running on EDFC currently. We are hopeful of completing work for both the DFCs in one year except the 100 km patch in Maharashtra,” said DFCCIL MD.

Economic implications of Ukraine war, sanctions & trade in national currencies high on BRICS Summit agenda NEW DELHI: The economic implications of the Russia-Ukraine conflict and financial mechanisms to deal with the sanctions imposed by the US, European Union and others as well as cooperation among member countries to fight against the Covid-19 pandemic will be key items on the agenda when PM Narendra Modi, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Chinese President Xi Jinping and Presidents of S Africa and Brazil

gather for BRICS Summit on June 24. The use of national currencies of BRICS member countries, creation of an independent BRICS rating agency, and related issues could also be discussed by the five leaders at the summit which will be held virtually for the third successive year. The Summit is also expected to give a push to multilateral trading systems and explore BRICS cooperation in fields such as digital economy, investments, sustainable development and the

stability of the supply chain. UN organ UNIDO has expressed interest to work with BRICS in these fields. The theme of this edition of the BRICS Summit, being held under the Chinese Presidency, is ‘ Fo s t e r H i g h - Q u a l i t y B R I C S Partnership, Usher in a New Era for Global Development’. China has proposed the expansion of the BRICS but some BRICS states, including India, have reservations against expansion at this stage.

MoPSW : Draft guidelines for operationalization of Ro-Ro/ Pax service along Indian coast issued for stakeholder consultation NEW DELHI: Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPSW), under its Sagarmala Programme, has embarked on developing an ecosystem for promotion of Ro -Ro (Roll- on, Roll-off) ferry and waterway t r a n s p o r t a t i o n i n t h e c o u n t r y. This mode of transportation has multiple benefits including reduced travel time, reduced logistics cost and lower pollution in comparison to conventional mode of transportation. In view of immense potential and distinct advantages of ferry service, Ministry is financially supporting 45 projects with total project cost of Rs. 1900 Crore. Under the gambit of Sagarmala, Ministry has operationalized Ro-Pax Ferry service between Ghogha - Hazira in Gujarat and Mumbai - Mandwa in Maharashtra. These services have transported more than 7 lakh passenger and 1.5 lakh vehicles, contributing towards clean environment and public welfare.

In view of success of these projects and high demand and potential, additional projects are planned at Pipavav and Muldwarka in Gujarat and Ghodbunder, Veldur, Vasai, Kashid, Rewas, Manori and JN Port etc. in Maharashtra. In addition to above, Ministry is supporting 4 projects in Andhra Pradesh, 2 projects in Odisha and 1 each in Tamil Nadu and Goa. The Ministry has prepared draft of “Guidelines for Operationalization of Ro-Ro and Ro-Pax ferry service along the coast of India” after incorporating the preliminary inputs received from the stakeholders. The guidelines encompass the two aspects of ferry operation namely; concessions for terminal operation and license for operation of Ro-Pax vessels. These guidelines will homogenize and streamline the development and operations of ferry services, along with, promoting ease of doing business by eliminating unnecessar y delays,

disagreements and introducing digital interventions at customer interface. They will also help State/UT Governments and Port Authorities in implementation of such projects by standardization of procedures. Further, it will help in instilling confidence among the private players thereby increasing their participation and promoting healthy competition in such projects. The Ministr y intends to seek feedback and suggestions on the draft guidelines for operationalization of Ro-Ro and Ro-Pax ferry service along the coast of India from all stakeholders. The document can be accessed from the websites of the MoPSW and Sagarmala on the links https://shipmin.gov.in/ and https://sagarmala.gov.in/ respectively and suggestions can be sent to sagar.mala@gov.in the profor ma attached as Annexure I of the guidelines within 21 days from the date of publication.

ICS launches new ‘Shipping Policy Principles for Pandemic Recovery’ during WTO Ministerial Conference LONDON: ICS joined the World Trade Organization (WTO) Ministerial Conference (MC12) in Geneva this week, as shipowners’ global trade association launches ‘Shipping Policy Principles for Pandemic Recovery’, setting out Calls to Action to governments as national economies seek to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic. WTO Conference takes place against the backdrop of ongoing conflict in Ukraine, which has forced WTO economists to reassess expectations of merchandise trade growth downward to 3% in 2022, from previous forecasts of 4.7%. WTO Director General, OkonjoIweala, has proposed a formal Dialogue between the WTO and the maritime transport sector, highlighting the importance of collaboration between the WTO and the global shipping industry which moves about 90% of global trade. Geneva, Switzerland. 13 June 2022: the International Chamber of Shipping

(ICS), alongside other leading business organisations, is joining WTO Ministers from across the world in Geneva this week, aiming to deliver concrete results a t t h e o r g a n i s a t i o n’ s u p c o m i n g 12th Ministerial Conference (MC12). This Dialogue will serve as an opportunity for Senior Government Officials and industry to exchange views on critical issues and challenges confronting the Multilateral Trading System, in the context of recent developments impacting the global economy, including the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, global energy crises and recovery from COVID-19. Speaking ahead of the upcoming Ministerial meeting, Guy Platten, Secretary General at ICS, commented: “We were very encouraged and fully support Dr Okonjo-Iweala’s message to the shipping industry proposing a formal Dialogue between the WTO and the maritime transport sector. There have been a number of developments which have further emphasised the need for WTO and industry collaboration this past year. ICS and the WTO, as the facilitators

of free trade throughout the world, are united on many issues but none more so than our shared values and principles of open and unimpeded access to international markets. We are committed to engaging with the WTO in this comprehensive Dialogue, and hope that our ICS Shipping Policy Principles will provide a building block for discussions between the shipping industry and governments.” The new Shipping Policy Principles strengthen the shipping industry’s commitment to the maintenance of a rules-based global trading system and a global regulatory framework which embraces open markets and fair competition; plus strict adherence to internationally adopted standards. ICS outlines ten ‘Policy Priorities’ and complementary ‘Calls to Action’ by governments in critical policy areas, to help support efficiency of the global maritime transport system which carries about 90% of world trade, the majority which now ser ves the economies of developing countries.

UAE suspend exports/re-export of Indian wheat for 4 months - State Agency DUBAI: The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has ordered a four-month suspension in exports and re-exports of wheat and wheat flour originating from India, the world's second biggest producer of the grain, state news agency WAM said recently. The Gulf nation's Economy Ministry cited interruptions to global trade flows as the reason for its move, but added that India had approved exports of wheat to the UAE for

domestic consumption. India banned wheat exports in a surprise move on May 14, except for those backed by already issued letters of credit (LCs) and to countries seeking to ensure food security. Since then, it has allowed shipments of 469,202 tonnes of wheat. Companies wishing to export or re-export Indian wheat brought into the UAE before May 13, when India's suspension began, must first make an

application to the economy ministry, it said in a statement. The UAE and India signed a broad trade and investment pact in February that seeks to cut all tariffs on each other's goods and aims to increase their annual trade to $100 billion within five years.. The pact, known as the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Trade Agreement (CEPA), took effect on May 1.

India, Russia Apex Banks to work on payment system very soon NEW DELHI: Officials of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and the Bank of Russia are set to meet this week to give the finishing touches to a bilateral payment system to ensure smooth trade flows between the two nations without violating global sanctions, people familiar with the matter said. Russia faces increasingly tighter sanctions after having invaded Ukraine at the end of February. The two sides will meet to discuss payment solutions such as Loro or

Nostro accounts. The first is a thirdparty account, where a bank holds an account in a country for another bank. The second involves a bank holding an account in another Countr y in another bank. "We will examine how we can open those accounts in the national currencies of India and Russia," said one of the source. Agenda For the Meeting Besides Central Bankers, officials from Ministries, Banks and Financial Institutions from both sides will also attend.

"The magnitude of such a meeting between two countries is noteworthy although discussions will be extended before both the sovereigns reach a conclusion," said a person involved in the exercise. Executives of SberBank and VEB Bank Russia are expected to be present along with officials from Russia's trade and foreign ministries. Bank Otkritie, Novikombank, Bank Rossiya, Promsvyazbank, VEB and VTB Bank are excluded from sanctions.

Cabinet approves 3-yr loan repayment moratorium for Cochin Port Authority KOCHI : The Union Cabinet approved a moratorium of three years (2020-23) for Cochin Port Authority (CoPA) towards repayment of the balance outstanding Government of India loans amounting to Rs 446.83 crore to tide over the financial crisis due to COVID -19, an official statement said. The amount was to be repaid in 10 instalments commencing from 2018-19. However, Cochin Port Authority could pay the instalments of 2018-19 and 2019-20 only.

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, has “approved a moratorium of three years (2020-21, 2021-22 & 2022-23) to C o c h i n Po r t Au t h o r i t y ( C o PA ) towards repayment of the balance outstanding Government of India (GoI) loans amounting to Rs 446.83 crore to tide over the financial crisis due to COVID-19 pandemic”, it said. From 2020-21, traffic was badly impacted due to the pandemic, which

adversely impacted CoPA’s cash inflows, due to which it could not pay the instalments of 2020-21 and 2021-22. Cochin Port has been brought under the Major Port Authorities Act, 2021 with effect from November 2021. The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) on August 24, 2016 had approved a proposal for waiver of penal interest on GoI loans taken by Cochin Port for various infrastructure development activities during 1936-37 to 1994-95.

Israel, India prepare to resume Free Trade Agreement talks NEW DELHI: Israel and India are preparing to resume talks on a free trade agreement, Israel’s Economy Ministry said, adding that an Indian delegation had arrived in Jerusalem to discuss framework rules and coordinate expectations for negotiations. Last October, India and Israel agreed to resume free trade talks with an aim of signing a deal by mid-2022. Israel’s Economy Ministry said a senior team from India’s Industry and Trade would meet with their Israeli counterparts to discuss the ground rules but did not say when actual trade negotiations would resume. Ties between Israel and India have grown closer in the eight years since Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi

has been in power, and the two countries have formed a number of strategic, military and technology partnerships during that time. Bilateral trade between Israel and India totalled $6.3 billion in 2021 up from $200 million in 1992 when the two countries opened diplomatic relations and Israel has emerged as one of India’s biggest suppliers of weapons alongside the United States and long-ter m partner Russia. “We share similar challenges in a wide range of fields, from agriculture, climate and water to homeland security, fintech and cyber,” Israeli Economy Minister Orna Barbivai said in a statement. She called the relationship between the two countries “strategic” and said a

free trade deal would significantly boost existing collaboration. Ron Malka, the Ministry’s Director General and former Israeli Ambassador to India, said in the statement that a deal would ease trade barriers for Israeli companies operating in India, strengthen trade and economic cooperation and help the Government in its efforts to lower the cost of living. Last month Israel signed a free trade agreement with the United Arab Emirates (UAE). India aims to sign new trade deals with several countries including Australia, the UAE, Britain and Canada, to boost exports and help the Country recover faster from its coronavirusinduced slowdown.

Allow export of 80 lakh tonnes of sugar under OGL in 2022-23, urges ISMA NEW DELHI: As global sugar prices continue to remain firm, Indian sugar industry body Indian Sugar Mills Association (ISMA) has requested the central gover nment to announce permission for export of 80 lakh tonnes of sugar in 2022-23. In a letter written to the Food Secretary Sundhanshu Pandey on June 10, ISMA has said that immediate announcement of next year’s sugar policy will help the mills enter into futures contracts at good prices. ISMA has requested the government to review the current sugar export policy and allow export of at least

80 lakh tonnes of sugar under Open General License (OGL) during the next sugar season starting October 1, 2022. “We believe it is the right time to announce the same as the current global prices are firm. Millers will get an opportunity to enter futures contracts at good prices. Accordingly, they can plan their production for next season in advance,” said ISMA According to ISMA, the area under sugarcane plantation for 2022-23 is expected to be higher by 2% than the ongoing sugar season. As the IMD has forecast a normal monsoon in 2022, ISMA thinks that it will augur well for the

sugarcane crop during its growth phase. The sugar production in 2022-23 will not be less than the sugar production of the current year, which is 394 lakh tonnes without considering diversion for ethanol. The cane that was diverted for ethanol in the current year was equivalent to 34 lakh tonnes of sugar, the letter said. “However, it appears that the sugar production in the next year could be on the higher side. Therefore, even after an expected higher diversion of sugar towards production of ethanol next year, there will be sufficient surplus sugar available for exports,” said ISMA.

MSC introduces new Biofuel Solutions to help customers cut Supply chain emission GENEVA: As part of its Journey to Net Zero, MSC has been using blended biofuels to propel its ships. Discover how MSC Biofuel Solution helps the company’s customers to meet CO2 emission reduction goals through a new carbon insetting programme. Decarbonisation is one of the biggest challenges facing the world and the shipping industry. That’s why it’s at the top of MSC’s agenda and will remain a priority for decades to come. Our goal is to reach net zero CO2 emissions by 2050. It’s an ambitious target, but we have already made good progress in improving the energy efficiency of our fleet, recording a relative decline in CO2 emissions of more than 40% since 2008. As part of our Journey to Net Zero, MSC has adopted sustainable biofuel – the only low-carbon fuel currently available that does not require any adjustment of our vessels’ engines – as a transition fuel in our ocean operations. About MSC Biofuel Solution Available at selected world ports, MSC Biofuel Solution offers customers the opportunity to join forces with MSC to decarbonise their supply chains and achieve their climate targets. This solution is our first carbon insetting programme, through which we use biofuel to reduce the carbon footprint of our customers’ supply chains as well as across our own operations, while accelerating the global energy transition and our industry’s decarbonisation. Specifically, MSC procures and bunkers low-carbon certified sustainable biofuel, derived from sources such as used cooking oil (Used Cooking Oil Methyl Ester or UCOME). This responsibly sourced, second-generation biofuel comes as a blend with conventional marine oil and its biocomponent can reduce CO2 emissions by 90%. Benets at a glance • Customers benefit from CO2 savings throughout their

supply chain (Scope 3 CO2 emissions). • Customers receive an MSC-issued Retirement Certificate stating the CO2 savings achieved, accompanied by documentation including Proof of Sustainability for the bunkered biofuel as well as an external verification statement for the carbon insetting process. • MSC’s insetting programme reduces emissions through CO2 savings achieved within our own value chain. “At MSC, we understand that we have an important role to play in decarbonisation and in accelerating the energy transition of the shipping and logistics industry,” said Dimitri Ruggiero, Global Accounts Vice President. “By adopting low-carbon fuels, we’re playing an enabling role in the energy transition while also reducing the emissions of our own operations. Customers can also achieve a reduction in emissions in their supply chains by taking part in our carbon insetting programme, MSC Biofuel Solution. We are continually improving the energy efficiency of our fleet, as well as collaborating with partners across the maritime ecosystem on research, trials and pilots to promote the wider adoption of low- and zero-carbon fuels of the future.”
