V.O.Chidambaranar Port surpasses annual target set by MoPSW

TUTICORIN : V. O. Chidambaranar Port in Tuticorin on Wednesday surpassed the cargo handling target of 36 million tonne set by the MoPSW, almost 17 days ahead of the end of financialyear2022-23.

The port handled 36.03 million tonne of cargo till March 14 this financial year and achieved 11.35% year over year growth despite disruptions in global supply chain, according to port authorities.

The major commodities that have witnessed considerable growth are construction material (67.41%), thermal coal for NTPL (63.16% ), limestone ( 51.72% ), sulphuric acid (37.34%), palm oil ( 35.55% ), industrial coal ( 25.08% ) and thermal coal forTNEB(12.80%).

The major factors that have contributed to the increased cargo handling activity are bulk cargo transhipment, implementation of preferential berthing scheme, MoU-based customer retention, attraction of ad-hoc container mainline vessel calls, increased coastal movement of salt and implementation of ease of doing business initiatives, said V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority Chairman Mr. T K Ramachandran.

Seafood exports to Ukraine dipped drastically to USD 1.36 mn in Apr-Jan

NEW DELHI - India’s seafood exports to Ukraine have been hit due to the Russia-Ukraine conflict as shipments declined drastically to USD 1.36 million in April-January 202223, Parliament was informed. However, the total seafood exports from India have increased from USD 6.66 billion in April-January 2021-22 to USD 6.86 billion during the same periodin2022-23.

In a written reply to the Lok Sabha, Minister of State for Commerce and Industry Anupriya Patel said that seafood exports from India to Russia have increased to USD 112.53 million in April-January 2022-23 from USD 98.84 million in

April-January2021-22.

“The seafood exports to Ukraine have been affected due to the Russia-Ukraine conflict, and it has reduced from USD 11.2 million during April-January 2021-22 to USD 1.36 million duringApril-January2022-23,”shesaid.

Andhra Pradesh is one of the major exporters of seafood with a share of about 35 per cent in India’s seafood exports in 2021-22.

In a separate reply, she informed that at the end of December 2022, India’s foreign exchange reserves stood at USD562.72billion,accountingfor9.3monthsofimports.
