Prime Minister announces one of the Largest Covid Relief Package globally of around Rs 20 Lakh Crores NEW DELHI: The mega Rs 20 lakh crore stimulus package announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi includes previously announced measures to save the lockdown-battered economy, and focuses on tax breaks for small businesses as well as incentives for domestic manufacturing.

The combined package works out to roughly 10 per cent of the GDP, making it among the most substantial in the world after the financial packages announced by the United States, which is 13 per cent of its GDP, and by Japan, which is over 21 per cent of its GDP. Cont’d. Pg. 11

Prime Minister announces one of the Largest Covid Relief Package globally of around Rs 20 Lakh Crores Cont’d. from Pg. 1 The Rs 20 lakh crore package includes Rs 1.7 lakh crore package of free foodgrains to poor and cash to poor women and elderly, announced in March, as well as the Reserve Bank's liquidity measures and interest rate cuts. While the March stimulus was 0.8 per cent of GDP, RBI's cut in interest rates and liquidity boosting measures totaled to 3.2 per cent of the GDP (about Rs 6.5 lakh crore). "A special economic package is being announced to make India selfreliant," PM Modi said in his third address to the nation over COVID-19 pandemic. "This package, taken together with earlier announcements by the government during COVID crisis and decisions taken by RBI, is to the tune of Rs 20 lakh crore, which is equivalent to almost 10 per cent of India's GDP."

Most economic activity in the country had come to a standstill after the government imposed a 21-day nationwide lockdown beginning March 25 to check the spread of coronavirus. The lockdown has since been extended twice through May 17, with some relaxations to allow the resumption of economic activity. The package, he said, will focus on land, labour, liquidity and laws. It will cater to various sections, including cottage industry, MSMEs, labourers, middle class, and industries. The Prime Minister did not share d e t a i l s s a y i ng Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will over the next few days spell out details for each sector. Proposals such as giving full tax exemption to companies making new investment of a minimum threshold in sectors such as medical devices, electronics, telecom equipment and

capital goods was said to be under consideration of the government. Investments in infrastructure are may also form part of the package. Easy access to land as well as labour reforms may also form part of the package to lure companies leaving China. The package is seen as a government attempt to check the world's fifth-largest economy hurtling towards its first full-year contraction in four decades. According to estimates, lockdown may have led to 12.2 crore people losing jobs in April and consumer demand evaporating. He said that a self-reliant India will stand on five pillars viz economy, which brings in quantum jump and not incremental change; infrastructure, which should become the identity of India; technology-driven system; vibrant demography; and demand.

He said, through this historical package, the P rime Minister has fulfilled the expectations and aspirations of the MSME, village and cottage industry sector.

Shri Gadkari said, with abundant resources, superior technology and raw materials, India can soon become selfreliant in all sectors. He said, the Prime Minister has also envisioned India as a super economic power in global economy. The Minister said, taking the economic slowdown due to COVID-19 pandemic as a blessing in disguise, we should strive to maintain positivity and self confidence to take the country ahead.

The Minister said, the nation will remember this gesture of the Prime Minister for a very long time. He said, PM's support to this sector which gives employment to over 11 crore people and contributes by nearly 29 per cent of GDP, can never be forgotten by all the stake holders of this sector. He expressed confidence that the MSME, village and cottage industry sector will grow to new heights with the support of this package.

Covid-19: Now, companies reshaping their logistics operating model NEW DELHI: The Covid-19 outbreak has had a significant impact on supply chains, forcing freight carriers to cancel, reduce or otherwise adjust services. I r o n i c a l l y, t h e p a n d e m i c h a s a l s o emphasised the key role of logistics and the importance of supporting people in this critical function. Several logistic majors have reshaped their operating models and increased efficiency and resilience. “Logistics is a very operationally intensive sector and needs feet on the ground. However, the current lockdown has got teams dispersed at various levels,” Prasad Sreeram, founder of Cogos, a logistics aggregator operating in 150 cities was recently quoted as saying to a Business Daily recently. The company has designed a

24/7 War Room dash-board to monitor operations. “Dissemination of right information is key for the smooth working of the supply chain. Cogos’ virtual War Room was created to address this very need. The entire team is kept on the same page and issues are resolved instantaneously,” said Sreeram, adding digital transformation is the need of the hour for all start-ups and MSMEs to help cope with the current situation. Tech-driven logistics company Mavyn is taking a digital route for its shipments. The company is “completely faceless, paperless and digital, and operates all its shipments virtually. The services are based on a no-human interaction model,” said Sachin Haritash, founder and CEO, Mavyn. Haritash said, “There have been

complaints of shipment delays between India and China for quite some time. A sharp drop in the dry bulk cargo movement was witnessed since the third week of January this year. Keeping this situation in mind, Mavyn has been providing end-to -end transportation solutions.” The company uses AI to refactor the end-to -end transportation process. The official said the USP of being completely paperless has helped customers with continuity in their production lines and completion of timely orders. As the e-commerce sector witnesses a boost, the need for logistics services also is on the rise. Mavyn is increasing its trucker base and currently has over 1,000 truckers and 7,000 vehicles associated with the company.

Economic package to spur growth, build a self-reliant India : Finance Minister NEW DELHI: The Finance Minister, as a part of Covid relief package announced by the PM earlier, highlighted that nearly Rs. 3 lakh loans for MSMEs will be given collateral free to spur the economic activity. In all the Finance Minister, in her first presser announced 15 different measures, including six different measures for the benefit of MSMEs. These are – • Nearly 3 lakh loans for MSMEs. Finance Minister says these will be collateral free loans. 45 lakh MSMEs to benefit from the schemes. • Moratorium for loans till October-end. Government to assure 100 per cent credit guarantee. • Stressed MSMEs to get Rs 20,000 crore liquidity, two lakh MSMEs that are stressed will be eligible for it • Introduces 'Fund of Funds'. Finance Ministry will infuse 50,000 crore into MSMEs that have potential and who need hand-holding during Covid-19 crisis. This will help MSMEs to be listed on markets. • Manufacturing MSME and Service MSME will be defined

Limits of investments of micro industries to be raised upto Rs 1 crore, says Union Finance Minister. Micro units can have turnover of up to Rs 5 crore. Global tenders will be disallowed for tenders of up to Rs 200 crores. E-market linkage for MSMEs to be made accessbile. Within next 45 days, all pending payments will be cleared. Rs 30,000 crore special liquidity scheme to be introduced for micro-units and NBFCs. This will benefit NBFCs, especially those supporting MSMEs. All Central Government agencies, including Railways, will extend the contracts for projects up to six months. This will be a major relief to the contractors. Moller - Maersk again delivered profitable growth. Operating earnings increased by 23% yearon-year, and cash return on invested capital increased (CROIC) by 3.5 percentage points to 10.5%. The strong results were made during a quarter with sharp fuel cost increases derived from the industry’s switch to low-sulphur fuel and on the backdrop of a contraction in global trade due to lockdowns in most regions. From the beginning of the COVID-19 crisis our focus has been on the health and well-being of our employees, on supporting our customer’s businesses and the societies we are part of,” says Søren Skou, CEO of A.P. Moller - Maersk. Ear nings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA) improved 23% to USD 1.5bn compared to Q1 last year and the EBITDA margin increased to 15.9%. Revenue increased slightly to USD 9.6bn, despite lower volumes and mainly driven by Ocean. While earnings continued to grow, the product offerings kept expanding in line with the strategy of supporting customer’s supply chain end-to-end. The acquisition of Performance Team, a US-based warehouse and distribution company, and a cold store construction in St. Petersburg, Russia were completed during Q1. Furthermore, the usage of digital services increased significantly as customers benefitted from the convenience of managing their supply chains remotely. The Maersk app for example experienced an 86% increase in usage. “The transformation of A.P. Moller - Maersk from a diversified conglomerate to becoming a focused, integrated and digitised global logistics company continues to be validated also in this quarter, as we are serving our customers, connecting and digitising their supply chains, while also growing earnings and free cash flow in difficult circumstances,” says Søren Skou. Return on invested capital after tax (ROIC), last twelve months, grew to 3.8% as earnings improved and invested capital was reduced. Free cash flow was USD 506m after capitalised lease payments and gross capital expenditures excluding acquisitions (CAPEX) was at USD 310m compared to USD 778m in Q1 2019, reflecting ongoing strong capital discipline. In Ocean, EBITDA increased 25% to USD 1.2bn in Q1 2020 and the EBITDA margin of 16.3% increased from 13.4%, driven by factors compensating for the increase in fuel prices following the implementation of IMO 2020, including a positive result from the self-supply bunker strategy and adjustments in capacity mitigating the lower volumes related to COVID-19. More than 90 sailings were blanked, leading to a decline of 3.5% in Maersk’s average deployed capacity in Q1. For Q2, we will continue our measures to mitigate the impact of declining demand. Unit cost at fixed bunker decreased by 2.3%, mainly due to optimisation in capacity, which offset the lower volumes.

In the landside businesses, Logistics & Services excluding the freight forwarding business, improved EBITDA t o U S D 69m from USD 49m. Infrastructure, which covers Terminals & Towage, and Logistics & Services, but excluding freight forwarding, reported a decrease in revenue to USD 2.1bn compared to USD 2.3bn in the same period last year due to lower revenue following COVID-19. Net interest-bearing debt was nearly unchanged at USD 12.0bn which was positively impacted by free cash flow, but offset by payments for annual dividends and share repurchases. Along with the investment grade rating and solid liquidity reserves of USD 9.2bn, it underlines the company’s strong financial position. As announced in February, Patrick Jany has joined the Executive Board as CFO of A.P. Moller - Maersk as of 1 May 2020. Patrick Jany comes from a position as CFO and member of the Executive Committee of Clariant AG, Switzerland. Guidance for 2020 The suspension on full year guidance for 2020, announced on 20 March, remains, as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to lead to material uncertainty in the coming quarters. “Looking into Q2 2020, visibility remains low as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. We continue to support our customers in keeping their supply chains running, however as global demand continues to be significantly affected, we expect volumes in Q2 to decrease across all businesses, possibly by as much as 20-25%. 2020 is a challenging year, but as we proactively respond to lower demands and show progress in our transformation and financial performance, we are strongly positioned to weather the storm,” says Søren Skou. The global market growth in demand for containers is expected to contract in 2020 due to COVID-19 (previously between 1-3% growth). Organic volume growth in Ocean is expected to be in line with or slightly lower than average market growth. The accumulated guidance on CAPEX for 2020-2021 on USD 3.0 – 4.0bn is unchanged, with steps being taken to reduce CAPEX in 2020. A high cash conversion (cash flow from operations compared to EBITDA) is expected for both years.

Ministry of MSME launches CHAMPIONS Portal www.Champions.gov.in Aimed at assisting Indian MSMEs march into big league as National and Global CHAMPIONS NEW DELHI: In a major initiative Union Ministry of MSME has launched CHAMPIONS portal www.Champions.gov.in, a Technology driven Control Room-CumManagement Information System. The system utilising modern ICT tools is aimed at assisting Indian MSMEs march into big league as National and Global CHAMPIONS. The CHAMPIONS stands here for Creation and Harmonious Application of Modern Processes for Increasing the Output and National Strength. Accordingly, the name of the system is CHAMPIONS. As the name suggests, the portal is basically for making the smaller units big by solving their grievances, encouraging, supporting, helping and handholding. It is a real one-stop-shop solution of MSME Ministry. While taking over as Secretary MSME on 30th April evening, Mr. AK Sharma had indicated that an

ICT based system would be set up to help the MSMEs in present difficult situation and also to handhold them to become national and international c h a m p i o n s . A c c o r d i n g l y, a comprehensive system known as CHAMPIONS was trial launched on 9th May, 2020. It is a technology packed control room-cum-management information system. In addition to ICT tools including telephone, internet and video conference, the system is enabled by Artificial Intelligence, Data Analytics and Machine Learning. It is also fully integrated on real time basis with GOI’s main grievances portal CPGRAMS and MSME Ministry’s own other web based mechanisms. The entire ICT architecture is created in house with the help of NIC in no cost. Similarly, the physical infrastructure is created in one of ministry’s dumping rooms in a record time. As part of the system a network of

control rooms is created in a Hub & Spoke Model. The Hub is situated in New Delhi in the Secretary MSME’s office. The spokes will be in the States in various offices and institutions of Ministry. As of now, 66 state level control rooms are created as part of the system. A detailed operating procedure has b e e n issue d, o f f ice rs have b e e n deployed and training has been conducted. On May 9th, Mr. Sharma did a trial launching of the champions system amidst his officers and staff. On this occasion around 120 locations of the country were connected through video conference. While trial launching the system, Mr. Sharma said that it is meant for the MSME units and people depending on them. He also said that these units and people need our help badly. We will do ever ything to help, re-start and rejuvenate them.

Exports in April to be significantly lower due to COVID 19 Crisis : Export Promotion Councils NEW DELHI: Export Promotion Councils across the country have war ned of a historic contraction in India’s exports during April, 2020 when most factories were shut and logistics activity minimal because of the nationwide lockdown. Labour intensive exports are likely to report the worst ever dip as customers cancelled orders for shoes, apparel, machine parts, jewellery and carpets. “ We a r e e x p e c t i n g a t l e a s t a 50 percent contraction in merchandise exports in April 2020,” said Ajay Sahai, Director General and CEO of Fe d e r a t i o n o f I n d i a n E x p o r t Organisations (FIEO), an umbrella body of Indian exporters. “Very few export units functioned and most overseas shipments during the month were of export consignments from the previous month,” he said India’s exports stood at $21.41 billion in March 2020, down roughly 35 percent over the previous year. The real impact of the April lockdown on exports will be known on May 15 when India’s trade ministry releases the data on trade for the month. While the government has extended the lockdown till May 17, it has allowed limited economic activity since May 1 with minimal presence of workers

in manufacturing units located outside containment zones. Apparel exporters said there was minimal or no activity in factories producing readymade gar ments, woollen knitwear, and other fabric items due to the lockdown. To make matters worse, design houses and buyers in top overseas markets like Italy, Spain and US cancelled orders. “At best, we expect exports of Rs 200 crore in April 2020 as against Rs 9786 crore worth of exports in the same month a year ago,” said A Sakthivel , Chairman of Apparel Exports Promotion Council, with over 8000 exporter members. In year on year terms, that would be a dip of nearly 98% in apparel exports from India during April. Leather exporters did not fare any better. “Almost all our members were shut in April. Some consignments of previous orders may have been shipped but volumes are minuscule. As our primary overseas customers are in a lockdown, we expect exports of about $ 16 million,” PR Aqeel Ahmed, Chair man of Council For Leather Exports was quoted as saying to a leading news channel. That is a fraction of the

$ 391 million leather exports seen in April last year. With the lockdown norms being eased in May, Ahmed expects leather exports to increase to nearly $94 million, but that would still be one-fifth of the numbers seen in May last year. Engineering goods, the bulkwark of India’s exports, too has taken a pounding. On average, goods like auto and auto components, machinery and metal scaffolding comprise nearly onefourth of the county’s export basket. “We estimate an overall drop of 50 to 60 percent in April ,” said Ravi Sehgal, chairman of Engineering Export Promotion Council. Pharma exports, which earned between $1.5 to $1.8 billion every month in FY20, could fare slightly than the rest of the pack. “Thanks to air cargo flights, exporters were able to ship out consignments to select countries in the second half of April. But exports through sea route have been minimal. We estimate a sharp annual fall in pharma exports during April,” said Dinesh Dua, Chairman of Pharmexcil, a body comprising exporters of drugs. “Due to sharp demand in overseas countries, pharma exports from India has the potential to reach up to $ 2 billion every month but units need to fully functional for that,” he added.

COVID-19: CMA CGM India successfully discharges five units of heat exchangers at Kolkata Port Trust • The heavy-duty heat exchangers came from Los Angeles and were discharged at Kolkata on 10th May • This was the rst time that the Port of Kolkata received ve breakbulk pieces in a single shipment • CMA CGM adopted stringent measures to ensure the health and safety of its staff and partners amidst the nationwide lockdown. Cont’d. from Pg. 1 This marked the first time five breakbulk pieces were discharged in a single shipment at Kolkata. Each unit of heat exchanger was 16.46 meters long, 2.59 meters wide and 2.41 meters high. In addition, each weighed 34.473 mts. Strict precautions were taken to ensure the health and safety of the CMA CGM Group’s staff and their partners in the context of the global health crisis. Present in India for over 30 years, the CMA CGM Group has established 29 offices nationwide, employing more than 600 collaborators. In India, it operates 14 weekly mainline services via 7 gateway and 7 feeder ports

APM Terminals Pipavav completes 500 days of safe operations Cont’d. from Pg. 1 This is a big achievement for the port as being a multipurpose port, it handles different types of cargoes. This has been achieved due to constant care, continuous training, monitoring and supervising the operations at all levels by the management. This has also been possible because of the committed employees who embraced safety in their day- to-day operation at work. The training imparted to the staff came in handy during the ongoing lockdown period and the port continued to function 24x7 ensuring safe and smooth operations. According to Mr. Jakob Friis Sorenson, Managing Director, APM Terminals Pipavav, “This is a proud moment for APM Terminals Pipavav. This landmark is a testament to the safety culture we have established at APM Terminals Pipavav.

The management and the employees strongly believe in safe operations.”

Fight against COVID19: Allcargo Logistics engages in community level and hospital-centric relief interventions Distributes 380 grocery kits to families in Maharashtra’s tribal belts and PPE kits to hospitals in Mumbai MUMBAI: To h e l p t h e people from the vulnerable sections of the society, Avashya Foundation, the CSR arm of Allcargo Logistics, distributed grocery kits to families in the tribal localities in Maharashtra. As many as 380 kits which would last for about a month were distributed to the families who have lost their livelihood due to the nationwide lockdown. Avashya Foundation volunteers distributed these grocery kits at Maldooge group gram panchayat and Waje group gram panchayat in collaboration with Savali, an NGO working in the area of education, health, and relief. Strictly following the social distancing norms, 80 families in Dhamni, 48 families in Chothi Dhamni, 47 families in Aaushachi wadi, 125 families in Shivansai, and 80 families in Sangatoli benefitted from the initiative. “The nationwide lockdown has severely affected the regular earnings of the people from the underprivileged sections of the society, migrant labourers and daily wage earners. In such an extremely challenging scenario, we undertook this initiative to address the plight of the people in some tribal belts in Maharashtra who has been with very little or no meals. We are grateful to Sarpanch of Maldunge and Waje group gram panchayat for their support,” said Dr. Nilratan Shende – GM CSR, Allcargo Logistics Ltd.

Allcargo Logistics has also been actively involved in numerous initiatives to support communities and healthcare fraternity. Similarly, to join in the fight against the COVID-19, Avashya Foundation provided PPE kits to healthcare workers at Sion and Poddar Hospitals in Mumbai. Additionally, Allcargo Logistics collaborated with Khushiyaan Foundation to run community kitchens for distributing food to migrant labourers and daily-wage earners in Bhiwandi, Thane and Navi Mumbai. Furthermore, the Foundation has been continuously working in Dhamni village in the Maldunge group gram panchayat in Panvel block - Raigad district since 2019 to set up a holistic village development model for the betterment of the locals.
