ONE’s Maputo/Mombasa India Middle East (MIM) service upgrades to weekly service frequency

Inlinewiththischange,ONEwill be deploying our vessels to the MIM service.

The increased frequency will begin from the Westbound sailing arriving at Jebel Ali on 20th January 2023 and the Eastbound sailing from Mombasaon31stJanuary2023.

The MIM service rotation remains unchanged as follows : Jebel Ali – Mundra – Mombasa - Maputo –JebelAli (Weeklyfrequency)

The upgrade to a weekly sailing frequency will provide greater flexibility and convenience for ONE’s customers.

Most active fleet builders in 2022 were MSC, CMA CGM, Evergreen and ZIM :Alphaliner

Additionally, CMA CGM grew its fleet by 225,268 TEUs, or7.1%,to3.39millionTEUs.

LONDON : According to Alphaliner’s latest report, MSC, CMA CGM, Evergreen Marine Corporation and Zim Lines registered the largest fleet growth among liner operatorsin2022

The four lines engaged in aggressive newbuilding orders, long-term charters and second-hand purchases to bolster their competitiveness just before the freight marketbegannormalisinginmid-2022.

MSC, which overtook Maersk Line as the world’s largest liner operator last year, widened its gap with its biggest rival, increasing its fleet by 321,455 TEUs, or 7.5%, to 4.6 million TEUs. Of this, 83,600 TEUs comprised newbuildings.

On the contrary, Maersk Line’s fleet contracted by 61,705 TEU, or 1.4% to 4.22 million TEU, as the Danish carrierredeliveredasignificantamountoftonnage.These ships were either sold second-hand or fixed to rival carriers which were prepared to pay higher charter rates oracceptlongercharterperiods.

Alphaliner commented, “MSC is likely to hold this #1 position for the foreseeable future. Its orderbook of 124 ships is by far the industry’s largest at 1.73 million TEUs. MSC alone has 14 megamax ships and 22 neopanamaxshipsonorderfordeliveryin2023.”

At the same time, Evergreen’s fleet growth of 12.5%, taking its capacity to 1.66 million TEUs, was mainly driven by 20 newbuildings of 217,500 TEUs, including large megamax vessels that it received from Samsung Heavy Industries (two ships) and the China State Shipbuilding Corporationgroup(fiveships)lastyear.

Coincidentally, MSC, Evergreen and CMA CGM also recordedthelargestfleetgrowthsin2021.

However, in percentage terms, it was Zim Lines which had the single largest fleet growth among container lines in 2022, taking in 29%, or 119,961 TEUs to bring its capacity to 533,823 TEUs, enabling the Israeli box carrier to regain its#10rankingthatitcededtoWanHaiLinesin2021.

Practising an asset-light strategy, Zim acquired more vesselsthroughlong-termcharters.Closeto95%ofitsfleet ischarteredand100%oftheshipsinitsorderbookwillalso beprocuredthroughcharters.

Alphalinersaid,“Despitetheyear-longdeclineinfronthaul spot freight rates on mainline routes from China, which dropped from their peak in early 2022 to near prepandemic levels today, the past year proved to be a particularly lucrative one for liner shipping: Solid contract ratesandastrongTransatlanticmarkethelpedcarriersto remain profitable. Many carriers made an effort to expand their fleets to take full advantage of the unusually strong market.”

Adani Ports reports 8% hike in Container volume in Dec 2022

AHMEDABAD : The container volumes handled by Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone in December 2022 increased by eight per cent year over year, the company reported, handling 25.1 million metric tonnes (MMT) of goods. In a filing to the recent stock exchanges, the business stated that it recorded 253 MMT of cargo volumes for the nine-month period of April to December 2022, which is eight per cent more than the same period a yearago.

While operating revenue grew 32.8 per cent to Rs 5,210.80 crore, Adani

Ports recorded a 65.5 per cent jump in net profit to Rs 1,737.81 crore in the September2022quarter.

There have recently been reports that Adani Ports, with an offer of Rs 1,200 crore, won the bidding for Karaikal Port. The bid is still being processed, according to APSEZ, and no decision has yetbeenmade.

The business has presented a resolutionplaninthecorporateinsolvency proceedingforKaraikalPortwhichisbeing carriedoutinaccordancewiththeNational Company Law Tribunal (NCLT), Chennai Bench,rulingdated29April2022.

The largest port developer and operator in India are Adani Ports, which has six strategically positioned ports and terminals on the west coast: Mundra, Dahej, Tuna, and Hazira in Gujarat, Mormugao in Goa, and Dighi in Maharashtra.

Additionally, the firm manages six ports and terminals along India’s East Coast: Dhamra in Odisha; Gangavaram, Visakhapatnam, and Krishnapatnam in Andhra Pradesh; Kattupalli and Ennore inTamilNadu.Theseportsaccountfor24 per cent of the nation’s total port capacity.

Uttar Pradesh aims to develop network of Dry Ports

LUCKNOW - In a bid to turn the state into a logistics hub and boost exports, Uttar Pradesh will develop a network of dry ports. Ahead of the Global Investors Summit to be held in February 2023, the state government led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has also received investment from international as well as domesticcompaniesinthissector.

Uttar Pradesh is set to organize the summitinLucknowfromFebruary10to12, 2023. It is noteworthy that in the new, Warehousing and Logistics Policy 2022 of theStateGovernment,investorshavebeen encouragedforinvestmentinwarehousing and logistics as well as in dry ports. Uttar Pradesh is a landlocked State with various exportclustersandhasalotofpotentialfor thedevelopmentofdryportsintheStatefor convenient transportation of export cargo toseaports.

Team Uttar Pradesh, which went abroad for the Global Investors Summit, has received investment proposals from many countries in this sector. In addition to this, a lot of domestic investors are eagertoinvestindryports.Amongothers, concessions will be awarded by the state government for the development of dry ports.“TheStateGovernmentwillprovide various concessions for the development of dry ports. About 100 percent exemption in stamp duty will be provided on the purchase of land or land taken on lease

(for a minimum period of 10 years) for setting up ICD, CFS, AFS projects in the state.Similarly,75percentconcession will be given in land use conversion charge and75percentexemptionwillbeavailable in development fee,” a State Government statementsaidonTuesday.

“Additionally, these projects will also be allowed up to 60 per cent ground coverage. However, all these proposed relaxations will be admissible only on submission of a bank guarantee of equivalent amount. Apart from this, capital subsidy at the rate of 25 percent will be provided on eligible capital investment. Meanwhile, new projects or industrial units will get 100 percent exemption in electricity duty for a period of10years.”

In addition, each project will be paid a skill development subsidy in the form of reimbursement of an honorarium of Rs 1,000 per trainee per month for 6 months subject to a maximum of 50 trainees per year for five years, the statement said. If there is a need to build a police station, outpost in a dry port or air freight station, thenthelandwillbemadeavailablefreeof cost to the developer by the concerned authorityforitsestablishment.

AMulti Modal Logistics Hub (MMLH) atDadriandaMulti-ModalTransportHub (MMTH) at Boraki (Greater Noida) are also being developed, which will give

further boost to this sector. India’s first ‘Freight Village’ in Varanasi is being developed in an area of 100 acres. The villagewillactasatrans-shipment hubfor inbound and outbound cargo, connecting the export centres of eastern Uttar PradeshwiththeportsofeasternIndia.

By far, numerous foreign companies haveexpressedtheirdesiretoinvestinthe logistics sector in Uttar Pradesh. MoUs havealsobeensignedwithmanyinvestors regardingthis.MoUsworthRs1300crores has been signed with Saraf Group of UAE, while Hindustan Port Pvt. Ltd. has signed anMoUworthRs.200crores.

Apart from this, Mobility Infrastructure Group of US has signed MoUs worth Rs 8200 crores, while Best Bay Trucking has signed MoUs worth Rs 1000 crores. Moreover, Singapore’s Star Consortium Pvt. Ltd. has inked MoU worthRs1000withtheUPgovernment.

In addition to this, DP World of UAE has also agreed to invest in setting up a joint venture in the field of logistics and cargo. Along with this, he has also demanded land with highway and rail connectivity near Kanpur, so that a big logistics plant could be set up. Under the joint venture, the company will require 2000 acres of land. Investment in this sector will provide employment opportunities to thousands of people in UttarPradesh.

Warehousing sector likely to see funding boom this year

MUMBAI - Warehouses will likely draw a disproportionate share of investor funds this year due to burgeoning demand from manufacturers and third-party logistics (3PL) companies. A total of 45 million square feet of

grade A warehouses have been leased in the top 7 cities in 2022, and it’s expected to reach 50 million square feet by the end of 2023, said Cushman and Wakefield.

“We will see the core sector dominate leasing as opposed to

eCommerce,” said Abhishek Bhutani, MD, Industrial and Logistics, Cushman and Wakefield. “We will also witness many new platforms being formed to invest in the logistics and warehousing segment.”

Forex reserves rise $44 million to $562.9 billion as of Dec 30

MUMBAI - The Reserve Bank of India’s foreign exchange reserves rose $44 million on week to $562.9 billion as of December 30, data by the central bank showed. Reserves rose marginally, led largely by an increase in the gold reserves by $354 million

to$41.3billion.

On the other hand, foreign currencyassetsfell$302millionduring theweektoend2022at$498.2billion.

InFY23sofar,forexreserveshave declined by $44.5 billion whereas for the whole of 2022, reserves are lower

by$70.8billion.

Forexreserveshadtouchedahigh $642.5 billion in September of 2021, falling to around $631.5 billion towards the end of February 2022, when the Ukraine-Russia war started.

Adani Group seeks land for warehouse complex close to Noida Airport

MUMBAI - The Adani Group has approached the Uttar Pradesh government for 700 acres near the Noidainternationalairporttosetupan industrialandwarehousingcomplex.

VikramJaisinghani,MDandCEOof Adani Logistics, wrote to the infrastructure and industrial development department, proposing a Rs 5,500-crore investment that could generate 21,000 direct and 42,000 indirectjobs.

According to the letter, the group would deposit 50% of the land value upfront so that it could be acquired without any hurdle. Calling itself a “super mega plus” investor, the group sought land under the “phase 2 master plan” of the Yamuna Expressway

Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA). In the master plan, YEIDA has proposed a logistics park at Tappal Bajna.

“For the rapid development of the state of UP, NCR serves as the nerve centre. Noida and Greater Noida shall bethefulcrumoftheNCRgrowthstory. The development of the upcoming Jewarairportshallfurtheraddimpetus to this growth. We propose to develop this infrastructure as a part of the overall commitment of Adani Group in the logistics sector in the state of UP,” theletterbyJaisinghaniread.

Sources in YEIDA said it received theletterfromLucknowthisweek.The offer comes just months before the UP government is slated to hold its mega

investor summit and at a time when chief minister Yogi Adityanath is in Mumbai to discuss investment proposals with India’s top industry barons.

India’s auto component exports may rise 20% in 2022-23 despite challenges in Europe & US

NEW DELHI : India’s auto componentindustryexpectscloseto20 per cent growth in exports in the current financial year despite weakening economic activities in the US and Europe, which accounts for morethan60percentoftheshipments fromIndia.

Despitetheeconomicchallengesin the US and European countries, the demands for Indian auto components remain strong. This is because companies in the US and European countries are adopting strategies to de-risk part of their sourcing from China.

“Alotofcompanieswanttode-risk. Theywanttohavealternatesourcesof components. Therefore, India is benefiting from that,” said Vinnie Mehta, Director General, Automotive Component Manufacturers AssociationofIndia(ACMA).

AutocomponentexportsfromIndia jumped by 43 per cent to $19 billion

duringthefinancialyear2021-22.Inthe first half of the current financial year, exports increased by 8.6 per cent to $10.1billion.

NorthAmericaaccountsfornearly one-third of total exports of auto components from India, while Europe accounts for 30 per cent of the shipments.

Is the Indian auto component industry concerned about the economic challenges in its key export markets, Mehta said, “We are notoverlyconcerned.”

He said the ‘China-plus-one’ strategy is gaining currency among the major companies across the world and it would benefit India, especially the auto component industry. China-plus-one refers to a business strategy in which companies avoid investing only in China and diversify their businesses to alternative destinations. India is seen as an attractive alternative

destination.

According to Vipin Sondhi, Chairman, CII National Committee on Future Mobility and Battery Storage,aslewofmeasurestakenby the Government like production linked incentive (PLI) schemes, localisation norms and 100 per cent FDIundertheautomaticroutewould give a boost to auto component industryintheCountry.

The Government has approved the PLI scheme for automobile and auto component industry with a budgetary outlay of Rs 25,938 crore. Through this scheme, the government offers financial incentives to selected firms to boost domestic manufacturing of AdvancedAutomotiveTechnology (AAT) products and attract investments in the automotive manufacturing value chain. This is expected to attract investments of Rs74,850croreinthenextfiveyears.

India begins anti-dumping probe into import of vitamin from China, EU

NEWDELHI-Indiahaslaunchedananti-dumpingprobe into import of a certain kind of vitamin, used for animal consumption, from three countries on a complaint by a domesticplayer.Thecommerceministry'sinvestigationarm Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR) is investigating the alleged dumping of 'Vitamin A Palmitate' originating in or exported from China, European Union and Switzerland. Alleging that dumping of the product is

impacting domestic companies, Piramal Pharma Ltd has filed a petition before the directorate seeking imposition of anti-dumpingdutyontheimports.

TheDGTR,inanotification,saidthatonthebasisofthe application "and having satisfied itself, on the basis of the prima facie evidence submitted, about the dumping of the subject goods...the authority, hereby, initiates an investigation".
