APM Terminals Mumbai receives fresh water produced by Maersk vessel

NAVI MUMBAI: Gateway Terminals India (GTIAPM Terminals Mumbai) is happy to support Maersk Line’s latest sustainability drive related to production and landing of fresh water onboard ocean-going vessels.

Cargo ships undertaking global trade are equipped with freshwater generator systems that produce clean drinking water by distilling sea water using heat energy harnessed from their engines. Traditionally, this system has been used to generate water for consumption only onboard the vessels. However, the excess water produced has been overlooked. Through an innovative project, Maersk engineers have optimised the process to store this excess water in tank containers which can then be delivered to ports.

GTI became the proud recipient of such a tank container this week. 25,000 litres of fresh water was unloaded from MV Maersk Stralsund (operating on the ME2 service at GTI) and delivered to GTI’s fresh water sump. This water will be used to meet the Terminal’s daily water requirements and offsets the need to purchase equivalent quantity of water which is obtained from natural resources.

Going forward, Maersk Line plans to regularize such production and delivery of water at GTI which will help GTI draw out plans for more sustainable utilization of the same. This will not only impact the cost of sourcing water at GTI but will also help in reducing Scope III emissions for the terminal.

In line with its commitment to decarbonization, GTI looks forward to partnering with Maersk and other shipping lines towards more such sustainability focused initiatives.

US-India trade boost as new ONE WIN service calls APM Terminals Mumbai and Port Elizabeth

THE HAGUE: APM Terminals Mumbai (Gateway Terminals India - GTI) welcomed the maiden call of the new Ocean Network Express (ONE) WIN service on 12 May. The service, which connects India's West Coast with the US East Coast, will call APM Terminals Port Elizabeth in the Port of New York/New Jersey mid-June. This significant development marks a pivotal moment in bolstering trade relations between the two regions and lifting global connectivity at Jawaharlal Nehru Port in Nhava Sheva.

India has been playing an increasingly important role in world trade, with an export volume of approximately $453 billion for merchandise trade and an annual growth rate of 15% in 2022, according to the World Trade Organisation.

Promising partnership

The maiden vessel, M.V. ONE MODERN, signaled the commencement of yet another promising partnership between APM Terminals and Ocean Network Express (ONE). APM Terminals Mumbai performed 2075 moves (3492 TEUs) in 19 hours and the vessel sailed out early morning on 13 May 2024.

Adding to the significance of the occasion, ONE planned to cover the vessel with their trademark

magenta containers before her exit from India. GTI played its part and helped load most bays with magenta-colored boxes while the remaining will be covered in Mundra.

Nine-strong eet

The new WIN service will be operated by a fleet of nine vessels, leaving from Karachi, making a stopover at Hazira before calling at GTI, Nhava Sheva. The vessel will exit India from Mundra for a 28-day voyage to the US East Coast calling at APM Terminals Port Elizabeth, Savannah, Jacksonville, and Charleston After completing its US East Coast run, the service will embark on its return voyage to the Indian Subcontinent from Norfolk, VA

This is the first ONE service to call APM Terminals Elizabeth since ONE’s formation of in 2018.

Modernised systems an obvious choice

APM Terminals Elizabeth, the second largest marine terminal in the Port of New York and New Jersey, plays a crucial role in the new WIN service. With its recently modernised systems, infrastructure and strategic location, the terminal is well-equipped to handle large cargo volumes efficiently

The main commodities carried by the service include fast-moving consumer goods such as electronics, perishables such as foodstuffs, and retail goods including textile and apparel Furthermore, chemicals moving between these two countries will benefit from the direct and increased capacity

India and the UAE signed the historic CEPA on February 18, 2022, to further boost bilateral trade and economic ties.

“By leveraging their strategic geographic locations and tradefriendly policies, they can serve as key hubs for regional trade and economic integration,” the report stated.

On regionalisation, the report sees new centres of gravity forming in Asia – around ASEAN, China and India – as well as North America

“This is bolstered by relatively new multilateral agreements with commitments to reduce tariffs, create a common market and boost regional trade,” said the report

Adani Group prot jumps 55 % in FY24; eyes USD 90 bn investment over next decade

AHMEDABAD: Adani group saw a 55 per cent profit surge in the fiscal year ended March 2024 as the applesto-airport conglomerate is back on an expansion spree and eyeing a USD 90 billion capex over the next decade.

Emerging from a damning report of a US short seller, which hit market value of its listed companies, Adani group in 2023-24 (April 2023 to March 2024) fiscal focused on containing debt, reducing founder share pledge and consolidating business in core competencies.

This helped net profit surge to Rs 30,767 crore for the group’s listed companies in the fiscal from Rs 19,833 crore a year ago, according to exchange data and analysts.

The 5-year CAGR (compound annual growth rate) for profit growth was 54 per cent.

E B I T D A ( e a r n i n g s b e f o r e interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization) rose 40 per cent to Rs 66,244 crore despite a 6 per cent fall in the revenue.

“Total group EBITDA grew 40 per cent year-on-year in FY24 (5-year CAGR of over 27 per cent), group r a i s e d f r e s h f u n d s f r o m equity/debt/strategic investors, promoter increased stake in group c o m p a n i e s a n d g r o u p M c a p

rebounded,” Jefferies said in a note. “The group is back on an expansion spree and eyeing USD 90 billion capex over next decade.”

Group leverage was at a multiyear low, the US-based brokerage said.

“Net debt at the group level (8 companies plus debt related to cement business acquisition) remained stable at Rs 2 2 lakh crore in FY24 vs Rs 2 3 lakh crore Net debt/EBITDA improved materially to 3 3x FY24 EBITDAvs5xyear-on-year,”itsaid.

Adani Ports and Adani Power saw a drop in net debt in FY24. Increase in leverage for Adani Enterprises and Adani Green was on the back of new capex projects undertaken by companies.

In FY24, the group’s flagship Adani Enterprises commissioned an ingot wafer unit as part of solar module manufacturing, wind turbine facility and copper smelter Adani Cement completed the Sanghi Cement acquisition while promoters infused more funds in the company

Adani Ports acquired Gopalpur port, Adani Power commissioned 1 6 GW Godda power plant, Adani Green added 2 8GW renewable energy capacity and commenced operations of solar power project in

Khavda, Gujarat, and Adani Energy Solutions put up 1,244 circuit kilometers of transmission lines.

On the way forward, Jeferries said, “Adani Enterprises is amid scaling its captive manufacturing capacity towards starting green hydrogen production by FY27; Navi Mumbai Airport appears likely to commission by 4QFY25; data centre projects are scaling up.”

Adani Cement is looking to double capacity, Adani Ports has outlined its 5-year business road map that targets EBITDA growth at 18 per cent CAGR in FY24-29.

“Ports EBITDA is expected to rise at 16 per cent CAGR led by expansion and ramp-up with the company targeting 1 billion tonnes cargo volume by 2030 (15 per cent CAGR),” it said, adding Adani Green has raised its 2030 power capacity target from 45 GW to 50 GW now including 5GW pumped hydro.

Adani Total Gas plans to grow new business segments including LNG station network for transport and mining sector and EV charging facilities.

Commodities firm Adani Wilmar is focused on distribution expansion, ramping alternate channels and improving mix of premium brands.

Port of Antwerp-Bruges makes 600 metres of additional quayside available for ICO

1st phase of dredging works in Southern Canal Dock completed

ANTWERP: In early April, Port of Antwerp-Bruges completed an important phase in the further development of the Southern Canal Dock Belgian dredging company DEME moved just under 1 million m³ of dredged material. As a result, ICO now has some 600 metres of additional quayside for RoRo ships. This marks an important step in the further expansion of the ICO RoRo terminal.

The development of the Southern Canal Dock is taking shape. The first phase of works on the ICO terminal - the dredging and disposal of nearly 1 million m³ of sand and clay soil - has now been completed. DEME excavated the upper soil layer of some 600 metres along the quayside; the lower layer was dredged to a level of -8.5 mTAW As a result, the permitted depth at the terminal has become the same as that of the existing moorings. The works will allow two additional RoRo ships to dock.

A second part of the works involves excavating excess soil on the port site itself to level the area and make it ready for construction. Finally, ICO will equip the RoRo terminal with parking lanes and parking garages for cars as well as facilities for vehicle inspection.

Port of Antwerp-Bruges is using the excavated land to level other sites within the port and to prepare the lorry car park along Emmanuel De Cloedtweg.

Efciency gains and reduced CO2 emissions

The development of the Southern Canal Dock is a great example of port expansion by using the available space in the best possible way First, Port of Antwerp-Bruges, DEME and ICO will use pre-existing port infrastructure, such as the quayside, dock, railway and road, both during and after the works. Second, ICO will utilise vertical space by ‘stacking’ the vehicles in parking garages

The new docking facilities at the quayside mean that the delivered vehicles have to travel a shorter distance to their temporary staging area on the site Further landscaping of some 32 acres of the terminal in a subsequent phase will also significantly reduce the distance between the parking garages and the internal

railway In other words, the project will optimise operations at the terminal and reduce relative CO2 emissions.

Dirk De fauw, vice chairman of the Port of AntwerpBruges Board of Directors: "The development of the Southern Canal Dock strengthens our position as one of the most important European gateways. This is good news both internationally and locally as the dredged sand and clay soil will be used both for the further construction of the terminal itself, as well as for the lorry car park a little further down the road."

Rob Smeets, COO of Port of Antwerp-Bruges: "This project is a textbook example of port expansion: making smart use of existing space and infrastructure. The development of the site - and the reduction in distance to the internal railway that comes with itprovides a boost in modal shift."

Alain Guillemyn, ICO: "Thanks to our new quay, not only do we reduce driving distances and reduce our carbon footprint, but we also increase our capacity for ships, allowing ICO to further position itself as a major player In addition, we increase safety by better spreading ship traffic. This is an important step forward toward a sustainable and efficient future for us as a company and as part of the port."

Gateway Distriparks Revenue up 7.63%, PAT

up

6.76% in FY24

MUMBAI/DELHI : Gateway Distriparks Limited (GDL), a leading multimodal logistics company in India, a n n o u n c e d i t s financial results for the quarter and year ended 31st March, 2024.

Mr. Prem Kishan Dass Gupta, Chairman & Managing Director, said, “The results this quarter have been muted primarily on account of the Red Sea crisis which has disrupted supply chains, causing a slowdown in EXIM business in India. However, our network advantage along with double stack hubs has helped us minimize costs while we navigate these obstacles. We continue to explore land for new container terminals and are optimistic that our Faridabad ICD will soon

become a double stack location as railway work nears completion. Our focus remains on expanding our network and sustaining growth.”
