CBIC allows export of Bangladeshi goods in closed Containers NEW DELHI: The Indian Government has recently allowed export of Bangladeshi goods in closed containers, which normally return empty through rail route af ter delivering Indian export goods to the neighbouring country. This step will help the Bangladeshi textile industry to reduce logistics cost and lead time while supplying their goods to Indian buyers. The Central Board of Indirect Ta x e s a n d C u s t o m s ( C B I C ) , Government of India, had recently issued a notification about the decision. It said that various ministries and trade bodies requested CBIC to allow movement of containerised cargo from Bangladesh into India by rail. Bangladeshi High Commissioner in New Delhi also requested for the same.
Previously, containers going from India to Bangladesh by rail were returning empty after delivering India’s export goods there. Hence, Bangladeshi companies had expressed interest to use such empty containers to export their products to India. CBIC said that the carrier will be the trains of Indian Railways plying between India and Bangladesh car r ying India’s containerised export goods to Bangladesh (forward Journey) and returning with Bangladesh’s export goods in the same containers (return journey). In both journeys, the trains will cross the international border through one of the specified Land Customs Stations with rail route, namely, Petrapole-Benapone and Gede-Darshana.
Industry sources said that the move would be beneficial for the textile industry, particularly because Bangladesh is a sourcing market for Indian industry for large number of finished and intermediary items. Sanjay Jain, Managing Director from TT Limited said, “It is beneficial for Bangladesh industry as it will reduce their logistics cost and lead time. Bangladesh exports garments and many other intermediary items to India.” Industry experts said that rail route is the most preferred channel for someone importing from Bangladesh. Since land route is shorter compared to sea route, freight charges are lower. Bangladeshi exporters can expect lower cost of logistics as return journey of containers will be cheaper.
Govt hikes MMLP Concession period to 45 years NEW DELHI: The Government has increased the concession period for the proposed Multi-Modal Logistics Parks (MMLPs) under the Bharatmala scheme to 45 years from 30 years. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has also changed the bid parameters for these projects and linked those to the
minimum guaranteed revenue share. “Extending the concession period was a market requirement. The earlier plan was 30 years, extendable by another 30 years. Interested developers were saying that since there are three development phases of five years each, they would get only 15 years of operational period for full facilities,”
Prakash Gaur, Chief Executive of National Highways Logistics Management Ltd (NHLML) said. The increased initial concession period is limited to 45 years, but without any further extension. It is e s t i m a t e d t h a t t h e 3 5 M M L Ps planned across the country will entail a capital allocation of Rs. 50,000 crore.
Bhavnagar-Mumbai Ro-Ro service to be launched soon: Mansukh Mandaviya MUMBAI: Union Health Minister Shri Mansukh Mandaviya said sophisticated Ro-Ro ferry services will start on Bhavnagar-Hazira and Bhavangar-Mumbai routes. This service will have double the speed then the existing GhoghaHazira Ro -Ro ferry and more capacity, he said. Mandaviya was in Bhavnagar to inaugurate the 55th professional training centre of the Central Institute of Petrochemicals
E n g i n e e r i n g a n d Te c h n o l o g y (CIPET), which will help in preparing skilled manpower for the industry. “Mafatlal Group is setting up a CNG terminal in Bhavnagar and a recycling yard is also coming up at Alang. For that, a sophisticated Ro Ro ferry service between BhavnagarHazira and Bhavangar-Mumbai will commence soon that will have double speed then the existing ferry service. The Ropax ferry has already arrived at Hazira port,” he said.
He also proposed a memorable celebration of 300 years of Bhavnagar while stating that a six-lane road is under construction between Bhavnagar and Dholera while renovation work on BhavangarMahuva coastal road is underway. This highway is riddled with potholes, said sources. A container making facility is also planned in Bhavnagar, Mandaviya said. The Ghogha-Dahej Ro-Ro ferry service has been operational.

MSC launches Pertiwi Service on the Intra-Asia Trade GENEVA: MSC will launch its Pertiwi service on the Intra-Asia trade, starting in early July. The new service offers customers with a direct link from North China and Korea to South-East Asia, providing improved transit times and more service offerings. The first sailing will be the Cardiff Trader, voyage HW227A, ETA Busan on 8 July 2022. Drewry’s World Container Index fall 0.1% per 40ft Container this week but 18% higher than year ago
LONDON: Drewry’s composite World Container Index decreased marginally by 0.1% to $7,625.56 per 40ft container during this week. Dr e w r y ’ s d e taile d assessment for Thursday, 02 June 2022 • The composite index decreased marginally by 0.1% this week, but, remains 18% higher than a year ago. • The average composite index of the WCI, assessed by Drewry for year-to-date, is $8,614 per 40ft container, which is $5,214 higher than the five-year average of $3,400 per 40ft container. • Drewry’s World Container Index composite index decreased marginally by 0.1% to $7,625.56 per 40ft container, but is 18% higher than the same week in 2021. Freight rates on Shanghai – Los Angeles and Shanghai – New York remained steady, however, is 46% and 44% higher than the same week in 2021,

INMEX SMM India denes the landscape for Shipping and Maritime Industry

Hapag-Lloyd acquires Container Liner business of Africa specialist Deutsche Afrika-Linien (DAL) • Deal completed between the parties after approval by worldwide antitrust authorities • Acquisition supports Hapag-Lloyd’s strategy to further grow in the South African market
HAMBURG: Hapag-Lloyd recently successfully closed the acquisition of the container liner business of German carrier Deutsche Afrika-Linien (DAL), after having signed the framework agreement in March 2022. In advance, the transaction had been approved by all responsible antitrust authorities. “We are very pleased with the closing of the transaction and looking forward to welcoming the DAL colleagues,” says Rolf Habben Jansen, CEO of Hapag-Lloyd. “With their broad experience and market knowledge, they will significantly support us to further grow in Africa, which remains an important strategic market for us. We will now fully integrate the DAL’s container liner activities into our business.” Particularly for the service offering from and to South Africa, DAL is a valuable addition, allowing Hapag-Lloyd to offer their customers a better network and additional port coverage in this region. With its long history, DAL is an established liner shipping company for the transportation of
containerised cargo and operates with four liner ser vices between Europe, South Africa and the Indian Ocean. Headquartered in Hamburg, the Africa expert is represented with own offices in Germany and South Africa as well as through third-party agents in 47 countries worldwide. Their liner business (including agencies) employs more than 150 people. DAL owns a 6,589 TEU container ship and operates a container fleet of around 17,800 boxes (owned and leased), which will be taken over as part of the acquisition. The integration will be moving at a swift pace, and full commercial integration is expected to be completed by the fourth quarter of 2022. In 2021, Hapag-Lloyd had acquired Africaspecialised carrier NileDutch, which significantly strengthened the carrier's presence and service offering to and from West Africa. This growth-oriented strategy was also underlined by several new office openings in Africa in 2021 and 2020.

CMA CGM stops transporting plastic waste MARSEILLE: From June 1, 2022, CMA CGM no longer transport plastic waste on board its ships, informed a recent communiqué from the company. Too much plastic waste ends up in the oceans because it is not properly treated at destination. This historic decision in the shipping industry will
contribute to the protection of the oceans and biodiversity. To ensure the effectiveness of this measure, we have implemented a ban on HS code 3915 in our booking system. Railway freight loading rises 14.7 % in May 2022 NEW DELHI: Freight loading on the Indian Railways rose to 131.7 million tonnes (MT) during May 2022. This is 14.7% higher than the 114.9 MT loading reported in May 2021. An official statement said that this growth has been fueled by incremental loading of 10.7 MT in Coal, followed by 2.8 MT in Cement and Clinker, 1.5 MT in Food grains and 1.4 MT in Balance other goods. “Except Raw material for Steel
Plants (including Iron Ore) and finished steel, all commodities have registered a volume growth over the corresponding period of last year,” the statement said. The cumulative freight loading in the first two months of the financial year has been 253.9 MT as against 226.5 MT achieved in 2021-22. This is an incremental loading of 27.4 MT, with a growth of 12% over the same period last year. The Railway’s earnings from freight
reported a steeper rise to Rs 14,113 crores in May 2022, 22% higher than Rs 11,611 crores in May 2021. With this, Indian Railways has had 21 straight months of best ever monthly freight loading, the statement said. The loading of Coal to Power Houses (both domestic and imported) has increased by more than 11 MT in May 2022. In all, 52.4 MT coal was moved to power houses during the month under review as against 41.01 MT in the same month of last year.
India allows small amount of wheat to move out after ban, big stocks still stuck NEW DELHI: India has allowed wheat shipments of 469,202 tonnes since banning most exports last month, but at least 1.7 million tonnes is lying at ports and could be damaged by looming monsoon rains, gover nment and industry officials told Reuters. Shipments that have been allowed moved mainly to Bangladesh, the Philippines, Tanzania and Malaysia, said a senior government official, who also stated the total quantity. The ban pulled Indian wheat exports down to 1.13 million tonnes in May from a record 1.46 million tonnes in April, the official said, declining to be named. India, the world's second-biggest wheat producer, imposed a general ban on
exports on May 14 as a scorching heat wave curtailed output and pushed domestic prices to record highs. Exceptions were allowed for shipments backed by letters of credit that had already been issued and those to countries that requested supplies to meet their food security needs. But even after the departure of some wheat, at least 1.7 million tonnes remained piled up at various ports, three dealers with global trading firms told Reuters. Before the ban, exporters moved unusually large quantities to ports, because the crop was then expected to be strong and the government was encouraging them to replace Black Sea
supply lost because of the war in Ukraine. They expected New Delhi to authorise shipments this year of 8 million to 10 million tonnes or even more, compared with 7.2 million tonnes last year. "Deendayal and Mundra Ports have maximum wheat stocks," said a Mumbai-based dealer with a global trading firm. "Together they are holding more than 1.3 million tonnes." The government needed to issue export permits promptly, because wheat at the ports was in loose form and therefore vulnerable to monsoon rains, said a New Delhi based dealer with a global trading firm.
Pre-shipment nod must for Nigeria pharma exports from India ABUJA: Nigeria’s National A g e n c y f o r Fo o d a n d D r u g Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has decided to insist on pre-shipment clearance for pharma exports from India. Consignments without the Clean Report of Inspection and Analysis (CRIA) issued by agencies approved by
the regulator will not be allowed from November 1, sources in Pharmaceuticals Export Promotion Council of India said after a meeting with NAFDAC officials on May 31. As many as 100 pharmaceutical companies and pre-shipment agencies attended the meeting convened by Pharmexcil in the wake of the Nigerian
drug regulator recently accusing India phar maceutical manufacturers / exporters of indulging in unethical and unprofessional practices. Both sides approached the meeting seeking solutions, sources said, adding at $588.59 million exports, Nigeria was the fifthlargest market for Indian pharmaceuticals.

Frydenlund held discussions with CSL Chairman and Managing Director Madhu S Nair, who explained the ongoing projects of the CSL. CSL has delivered around 35 vessels in the past 20 years with technology partners from Norway. CSL authorities
have informed that potential collaboration in new and emerging technologies on shipping was also discussed during the meeting. A detailed presentation on CSL’s plans into the green shipping was made to the ambassador and the Norwegian contingent. The ambassador also visited the Kochi Water Metro hybrid electric fer ries which are under construction at the yard. CSL is building two autonomous electric zero emission vessels for Nor wegian firm ASKO Maritime.
This project is partially funded by the Nor wegian government aimed at emission-free transport of goods across Oslo Fjord.
SBI revises up FY23 economic growth forecast to 7.5% MUMBAI: SBI Research has projected the Indian economy to grow at 7.5 per cent in 2022-23, an upward revision of 20 basis points from its earlier estimate. As per official data, the economy grew by 8.7 per cent in FY22, net adding Rs 11.8 lakh crore in the year to Rs 147 lakh crore, the report said, adding this was however only 1.5 per cent higher
than the pre-pandemic year of FY20. "Given the high inflation and the subsequent upcoming rate hikes, we believe that real GDP will incrementally increase by Rs 11.1 lakh crore in FY23. This still translates into a real GDP growth of 7.5 per cent for FY23, up by 20 basis points over our previous forecast,"
SBI chief economist Soumyakanti Ghosh said in a note recently. Nominal GDP expanded by Rs 38.6 lakh crore to Rs 237 lakh crore, or 19.5 per cent annualised. In FY23 also, as inflation remains elevated in the first half, nominal GDP will grow 16.1 per cent to Rs 275 lakh crore, he said.

Consignees expecting impor t cargoes on the captioned vessel are requested to present their ORIGINAL BILLS OF LADING duly discharged and obtain Delivery Orders. Wan Hai Lines holds Online Ship Naming Ceremony for New Vessels accompanied by a Charity Donation T A I P E I : Wan Hai Lines Ltd. held ship naming ceremony for WAN HAI 295 and WAN HAI 296 accompanied by charity donations on 2nd June. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a physical ceremony was replaced by an online one. WAN HAI 295 and WAN HAI 296 are the last two vessels in a series of 2,038 teu containerships built by China Shipbuilding Trading Co., LTD., and Guangzhou Wenchong Shipyard Co., LTD. Ms. Christine Hsieh, Senior Vice President of Shipping D e p a r t m e n t , FA R E A S T E R N N E W C E N T U R Y CORPORATION and Ms. Grace Hsu, Vice Chairman of GALLANT OCEAN INTERNATIONAL, INC., named these two vessels respectively during the ceremony. The 2,038 TEU series is designed with LOA 175m, deadweight capacity of 23,802 mt on 10.5 m draft and a maximum cruising speed of 20.66 nautical miles. The design of 2,038 teu series takes energy efficiency and environmentallyfriendly aspect into account. Moreover, all the ships delivered are certified with “Smart Ship” notations by international wellknown classification societies. The newbuildings are part of Wan Hai Lines efforts to ensure their continuous pursuit of fleet upgrade in order to provide most quality service to customers. WAN HAI 295 will be delivered on June 8th at Guangzhou Wenchong Shipyard. After delivery, she will join Wan Hai Lines’ Korea-Vietnam Service to provide efficient delivery service for customers. In addition to naming the newbuildings, Wan Hai Lines also made charity donations to Guangzhou Zhanxiang Social Work Service Centre and Shanghai Qingcongquan Training Center for Children with Special Needs, two local welfare organizations
focusing on care for People with disabilities and autistic children. The charity donations represent part of Wan Hai Lines motto, “WE CARRY, WE CARE.”, as the company is committed to fulfill its corporate social responsibility, providing quality service to customers and bringing love to the society.
