APM Terminals Pipavav resumes Container Operations; berths Transworld Group’s Vessel SSL Brahmaputra • The container operations were suspended at the Port following cyclone ‘Tauktae’ and the power outage caused thereof • Rail container operations were commenced from May 22; while fertilizer rake loading started from May 25 • Partial non-container operations resumed from May 26 onwards and dry cargo vessel began operations from May 29 despite power outage

Cont’d. from Pg. 3 Relentless efforts by teams on ground and teams supporting remotely resulted in setting up mobile power source while taking utmost precautions in terms of safety of people and equipment. On the landside operations, Rail container operations were resumed from May 22 followed by fertilizer rake loading that began from May 25 onwards. Partial non-container operations resumed with effect from May 26 and dry cargo vessels started from May 29 onwards. The gate operations for export and import dry containers resumed in a controlled manner while live reefer is permitted without any restrictions. Although operations have resumed, the Port is still not on the Public utility power grid (GETCO) and is expected to recover steadily over the coming weeks. Repairs are being done in anticipation of the monsoon season and complete port recovery will take up to 3 months. Mr. Jakob Friis Sorenson, MD, APM Terminals Pipavav said, “We are pleased to resume our marine operations from today with the berthing of SSL Brahmaputra. We are committed

to delivering quality service to our customers and even through such unprecedented challenges, we are making every possible effort to ensure that our customers have least impact on their operations. Our proactive preparations ensured that we had minimal impact and all our employees remained safe during and after the cyclone. We are grateful to our customers and stakeholders for their continued cooperation and patience. We are geared up to welcome vessels, trains and trucks at our port with full enthusiasm.”

APSEZ witnesses robust growth despite pandemic blues Adani Ports logs 79% yoy rise in cargo volumes to 25.65MT MUMBAI : The outbreak of Covid-19 has halted major operations across the Indian port industry. However, despite the ongoing pandemic, Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone recorded over 247 million tonnes of cargo handling in FY21 ending March 31, 2021, which is about 11 per cent more than that of the last financial year. The Group’s port revenues surged by around 30 per cent on a year-on-year basis, while its overall share of India’s port market increased to 25 per cent. In May 2021, the company handled a cargo volume of 25.65 MMT thus registering a growth of 79% on a Year-on-Year basis. Under the container segment, the company handled container volume of 0.72 MN TEU’s thus registering a growth of 67 % on Year Year basis. Meanwhile, Mundra port handled container volume of 0.56 MN TEU’s thus registering a growth of 61% on Year-on-Year basis. Cargo throughput has surged at most of the ports operated by Adani Group that stretch from Goa, Gujarat, Chennai to Odisha and beyond. Currently, the Adani Group operates 12 port projects across India, including its minor share at MPT Goa , and major ports such as Mundra, Dhamra and Krishnapatnam. Mundra, the group’s flagship port, recently overtook the state-run JNPT as the country’s biggest container port, after handling over 5.66 million TEU. With this, it has now entered the list of the World’s top 30 Container Ports.

The strong performance of the Mundra port can partly be attributed to the measures that APSEZ has been taking amid Covid-19. Capt. Sandeep Mehta, President of Business Development at Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone (APSEZ), said, “We have concentrated on two things at all our ports – safety of our staff, and continuity of our business.” Owing to this, there has been no adverse effect on the movement of vessels and cargo at Mundra as well as other ports that the group operates. According to Karan Adani, CEO, APSEZ, the customercentric approach has been instrumental in helping the company yield good results. He also added that the amendments in the General Purpose Wagon Investment Scheme of Indian railways has opened new doors of opportunities for APSEZ. For instance, it has been able to serve customers not only from the port, but the mining sector as well. In addition to this, the company has also received contracts for the transportation of raw materials from mines. Adani Group operates a number of port projects – from Goa, Gujarat, Chennai, to Odisha and more. While Mundra is the flagship port of APSEZ, cargo handling at other ports has been equally instrumental in the surge of the company’s net profit and revenue.

Port of Antwerp continues to work on the digitization of the Port Koen Breemersch appointed as advisor to NxtPort ANTWERP: The Antwerp Port Authority has appointed Koen Breemersch as advisor to design the next phase for its subsidiary NxtPort. This allows a vision for the next three years to be determined, from both a technical and commercial perspective. In recent years, NxtPort has laid a solid foundation for the digitization of operational information flows in the port. The aim is to share data between the various players in order to make the logistics chain in the broad port context more efficient, cheaper and safer. Beacons are being set with products such as Bulkchain and Certified Pick-Up (Cpu). The collaboration with Port+ resulted in the Qronoport application . The corona crisis has made clear worldwide the importance and necessity of further digitization in the global logistics chain.

Port of Antwerp wants to continue to play a pioneering role in this. For example, the digitization of railways and customs are high on the agenda. The time has therefore come to outline an integrated path for the future. With Koen Breemersch, the Port Authority brings a great deal of expertise on board regarding the development and marketing of digital platforms. This allows a vision for the next three years to be determined, both from a technical and commercial perspective. At the end of 2020, the internationalization of NxtPort was also announced through a joint venture supported by Vopak Ventures. Koen will take on the role of 'acting CEO'. Pascale Pasmans, currently CEO Ad Interim of NxtPort, will take up a new role within the Port Authority as Enterprise Portfolio Manager, where she will lead the team that monitors the Port Authority's project portfolio and strategic agenda.

Exports jump 67 pc to $32.21 billion in May; trade deficit at $6.32 billion Cont’d. from Pg. 3

... and gems and jewellery, even as trade deficit widened to USD 6.32 billion, according to Government data released recently. Exports in May last year stood at USD 19.24 billion and in May 2019 it was at USD 29.85 billion, the Commerce Ministry’s preliminary data showed. Imports in May rose by 68.54 per cent to USD 38.53 billion, from USD 22.86 billion in May 2020. In May 2019, imports stood at USD 46.68 billion. “India is thus a net importer in May 2021 with a trade deficit of USD 6.32 billion, an increase of 74.69 per cent over trade deficit USD 3.62 billion in May 2020 and reduction by 62.49 per cent over trade deficit USD 16.84 billion in May 2019,” the Ministry said. The Country’s merchandise exports in April had jumped nearly three-fold

to USD 30.63 billion, even as the trade deficit widened to USD 15.1 billion. Oil imports during May this year rose to USD 9.45 billion, as compared to USD 3.57 billion in May 2020. In May 2019, it stood at USD 12.59 billion. Exports during Apr-May this year have jumped to USD 62.84 billion, as against USD 29.6 billion in the same period last year. It was USD 55.88 billion in Apr-May 2019, the data showed. Imports during Apr-May 2021 was USD 84.25 billion, up from USD 39.98 billion in April-May 2020. In Apr-May 2019 it stood at USD 89.07 billion. In AprMay 2021, oil imports aggregated at USD 20.32 billion, up from USD 8.24 billion in Apr-May 2020. In Apr-May 2019 it was USD 24.16 billion. Exports of engineering, petroleum products and gems and jewellery in May stood at USD 3 billion, USD 3.51 billion

and USD 1.9 billion respectively. Commenting on the data, Trade Promotion Council of India (TPCI) Founder Chairman Mohit Singla said that the fall in the import of newsprint, transport equipment and iron and steel is a welcome trend towards selfreliance, as it shows that the government’s import substitution strategy has strongly worked for these sectors. The Engineering Export Promotion Council (EEPC) said that shipments in the sector saw a substantial year-onyear rise in May primarily on account of low-base due to strict lockdown in the same month last year. “We expect the order book of exporters to remain strong in the current financial year given the demand trend from key markets such as US, China and Europe,” it said in a statement.

Kalmar introduces new remote services for Container Terminals MUMBAI : Kalmar, part of Cargotec, introduces new remote services for manual and automated container terminals. The Kalmar Remote Service offering now includes three new services: Kalmar Maintenance Remote Support, Kalmar Automation and Software Monitoring and Kalmar Remote Automation Engineer that complement the current Kalmar Software Maintenance and Support (M&S) agreement available for Kalmar’s automation customers. Efficient container handling operations rely on state- of-the-art systems and solutions, capable personnel to use them as well as the ability to continuously improve operations. Kalmar’s new remote services enable terminal operators to leverage Kalmar’s in-depth experience and expertise to optimise equipment and software availability and continuously improve their operations, no matter where they are in the world. Equipment support for manual and automated terminals Kalmar Maintenance Remote Support is a data-driven ser vice that helps customers optimise equipment availability and reduce downtime of both manual and automated fleets. It helps customers ensure that their fleet performs according to the terminal’s Key Performance Indicators (KPIs). The support covers Shuttle and Straddle Carriers connected to the Kalmar Cloud and it will be extended to automatic stacking cranes, rubber-tyred

gantry cranes and rail-mounted gantry cranes in the future. The support will be offered in three levels: 1. Periodic Health Checks: monthly reports and servicing recommendations to continuously develop equipment to ensure the efficient running of the equipment. 2. Continuous Proactive Monitoring: monthly reports and servicing recommendations plus proactive support from Kalmar experts according to the agreed service level. 3. Predictive Support and Monitoring: monthly reports, servicing recommendations, proactive support as well as predictive identification and resolution of equipment issues according to the agreed service level. The predictive part of the offering is in the development phase. System support for automated terminals Kalmar Automation and Software Monitoring and Kalmar Remote Automation Engineer are extensions of the Kalmar Software Maintenance and Support (M&S) agreement. By adding new remote engineer and monitoring ser vices to their M&S agreement, customers can gain expert help to ensure smooth day-to -day operations, boost continuous development and enhance the agreed service level (SLA) if needed. These extensions are available for customers with the Kalmar One automation system in use at their terminal. Kalmar Automation and Software

Railways loads highest ever freight of 114.8 MT in May NEW DELHI: Indian Railways' Freight made the highest ever loading of 114.8 Metric Tonne (MT) for the month of May and earned Rs 11604.94 crores from freight loading, said Ministry of Railways recently. "In May 2021 is 114.8 MT which is 9.7 per cent more than May 2019 (104.6 MT) for the same period," the official statement said. The important items transported during May 2021 includes 54.52 million tonnes of Coal, 15.12 million tonnes of Iron

Ore, 5.61 million tonnes of Foodgrains, 3.68 million tonnes of Fertilizers, 3.18 million tonnes of Mineral Oil, 5.36 million tonnes of Cement (excluding clinker) and 4.2 million tonnes of Clinker. "Wagon Turn around time has seen an improvement of 26 per cent in this month. In May, 2021, wagon turn around time is registered at 4.81 days as compared to 6.46 in May 2019," the statement said. The Ministry said that a number of concessions or discounts are also being given in Indian Railways to make railways

freight movement very attractive. Speed of freight trains has been doubled over the last 18 months, saving costs for stakeholders, it said. "Few zones (around four zones) have registered an average speed of freight trains even above 50 Kmph. Due to geographical conditions, certain sections offer good speed to freight trains. An average speed of 45.6 Kmph is registered in May 2021 for freight trains which are 26 per cent more as compared to 36.19 Kmph for the same period," it added.

Exports continue to perform impressively for third month in a row on back of good order booking and gradual opening of key global markets: Sharad Kumar Saraf, President, FIEO N E W D E L H I : Responding to the trade d a t a f o r M a y, 2 0 2 1 , Mr Sharad Kumar Saraf, President, FIEO said that the continuing impressive growth in exports reiterate our assessment that order booking position of our exporters is not only extremely good but also the gradual opening up of major global markets and improvement of situation in the country is expected to push exports growth further. President FIEO said that growing by about 8% even on the base of May 2019 reflects a positive trend for the sector. Mr Saraf particularly emphasised that the growth in labour-intensive sectors like Cereal preparations and miscellaneous processed item, Gems & Jewellery, Engineering goods, Cotton yarn/fabrics/made-ups, handloom products, Marine products, Spices, Carpets and Man-made yarn/fabrics/made-ups etc. augurs well for the job scenario, which is most relevant in the current context.

FIEO Chief added that such a growth during the month has been mainly on account of growth in Petroleum products, Engineering goods and Gems & Jewellery, the major contributors to the country’s export basket, which have shown impressive performance compared to May, 2020. He also said that 19 out of 30 major product groups of exports have either shown a very impressive high positive growth starting with 3-digit defying all the odds when there is still a bit of scepticism persisting in the global economy on the expectation of a third wave of Covid-19 pandemic. Mr Sharad Kumar Saraf further reiterated that continuing on with such a growth performance in exports during the second month of the new financial year not only shows signs of resilience of the exporting community facing squeezing profits but also the resolve of the government. FIEO Chief complimented the government for its continuous support during such challenging times. Increase in May 2021

imports by about 68.54 percent to USD 38.53 billion compared to the same period during the previous fiscal led to the increase in trade deficit of USD 6.32 billion, which is an increase of over 74.69 percent during the month and should be looked into. FIEO President reiterated that though the government has announced a slew of measures to support exports, the need of the hour is to soon notify the RoDTEP rates to remove uncertainty from the minds of the trade and industry thereby helping in further forging new contracts with the foreigner buyers. Mr Saraf also reiterated that the government must address some of the key issues including priority status to exports sector, extension of Interest Equalisation Scheme beyond June 2021 till atleast 31st March, 2024, release of the necessary funds for MEIS and clarity on SEIS benefits, resolving risky exporters' issues and continuance of seamless refund of IGST and more importantly continuing with IGST option for exports.

APEDA sets up Export Promotion Body to boost Dairy Exports NEW DELHI: The Agricultural and Processed Meals Merchandise Export Growth Authority (APEDA) has arrange an Export Promotion Discussion board (EPF) to advertise exports of dairy merchandise and tackle numerous points within the sector. The EPF will increase commerce and embrace officers of the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dair ying, and Export Inspection Council, based on APEDA Chairman M Angamuthu. IMO working group agrees guidelines to support new GHG measures LONDON : Guidelines to support new carbon intensity cutting measures agreed by working group ahead of MEPC. An International Maritime Organization (IMO) working group has agreed a set of draft guidelines to support mandatory measures to cut the carbon intensity of all ships. The proposed mandatory measures have already been approved by IMO’s Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC) and are expected to be adopted when the MEPC meets for its 76th session from 10-17 June, 2021. The proposed amendments to the MARPOL Convention would require ships to combine a technical and an operational approach to reduce their carbon intensity. This is in line with the ambition of the Initial IMO GHG Strategy, which aims to reduce carbon intensity of international shipping by 40% by 2030, compared to 2008. These are two new measures: the technical requirement to reduce carbon intensity, based on a new Energy Efficiency Existing Ship Index (EEXI); and the operational carbon intensity reduction requirements, based on a new operational carbon intensity indicator (CII). The dual approach aims to address both technical (how the ship is equipped and retrofitted ) and operational measures (how the ship operates). The Intersessional Working Group on Reduction of GHG Emissions from Ships (ISWG-GHG 8), which met remotely from 24-28 May, agreed, for consideration by the Committee, with a view to adoption on the following comprehensive set of guidelines accompanying the new requirements: draft 2021 Guidelines on the method of calculation of the attained energy efficiency existing ship index (EEXI); draft 2021 Guidelines on survey and certification of the energy efficiency existing ship index (EEXI); draft 2021 Guidelines on the shaft / engine power limitation system to comply with the EEXI requirements and use of a power reserve; draft 2021 Guidelines on operational carbon intensity indicators and the calculation methods (CII Guidelines, G1); draft 2021 Guidelines on the reference lines for use with operational Carbon Intensity Indicators (CII reference lines guidelines, G2); draft 2021 Guidelines on the operational carbon intensity reduction factors relative to reference lines (CII Reduction factor Guidelines, G3); draft 2021 Guidelines on the operational Carbon Intensity rating of ships (CII rating guidelines, G4). The amendments to MARPOL Annex VI and this accompanying detailed set of guidelines provide important tools for Administrations and industry to implement the new requirements, and building blocks for future energy efficiency measures. CII reduction factor Under the draft MARPOL amendments, ships of 5,000 gross tonnage and above (the approximately 30,000 ships currently already subject to the requirement for data collection system for fuel oil consumption of ships) have to determine their required annual operational carbon intensity indicator (CII). The ship’s CII determines the annual reduction factor needed to ensure continuous improvement of the ship’s operational carbon intensity within a specific rating level. The actual annual operational CII achieved (attained annual operational CII) would be required to be documented and verified against the required annual operational CII. This would enable the operational carbon intensity rating to be determined. A key element in the draft guidelines is the proposal for the CII reduction factor (the ‘Zfactor’), included in the draft guidelines on the operational carbon intensity reduction factors relative to reference lines (G3). The reduction rates are intended to achieve the levels of ambitions set out in the Initial Strategy, in particular, the 2030 level of ambition of reducing carbon intensity of international shipping by at least 40% by 2030, compared to 2008.

The group put forward to the Committee the concept of a phased approach, which would see an annual successive carbon intensity reduction rate of -2% compared to the 2019 reference line from 2023 (when the MARPOL amendments would enter into force) through to 2026 – at which time a review required under the draft MARPOL amendments would be undertaken to further strengthen the annual reduction rate. CII rating The draft 2021 Guidelines on the operational Carbon Intensity rating of ships (CII rating guidelines, G4) set the method to determine the rating boundaries. The rating would be given on a scale – operational carbon intensity rating A, B, C, D or E – indicating a major superior, minor superior, moderate, minor inferior, or inferior performance level. The performance level would be recorded in the ship’s Ship Energy Efficiency Management Plan (SEEMP). Under the draft MARPOL amendments, a ship rated D for three consecutive years, or E, would have to submit a corrective action plan, to show how the required index (C or above) would be achieved. Administrations, port authorities and other stakeholders as appropriate, are encouraged to provide incentives to ships rated as A or B. Correspondence group established T h e Wo r k i n g G r o u p a g r e e d t o e s t a b l i s h a Correspondence Group on Carbon Intensity Reduction, to: further consider and finalize the draft updated Guidelines for the development of a Ship Energy Efficiency Management Plan (SEEMP); further consider and update existing guidelines, procedures or guidance, including the 2017 guidelines related to the ship fuel oil data collection system; develop draft guidelines on correction factors for certain ship types, operational profiles and/or voyages for the CII calculations (G5) develop in new or existing guidelines specific guidance on the audit and verification processes of SEEMP as well as possible parameters and templates for reporting, verification and submission of data for trial CIIs of individual ships on voluntary basis Attained and required Energy Efficiency Existing Ship Index (EEXI) The attained Energy Efficiency Existing Ship Index (EEXI) is required to be calculated for every ship at its first survey following entry into force of the amendments. This indicates the energy efficiency of the ship compared to a baseline. Ships are required to meet a specific required Energy Efficiency Existing Ship Index (EEXI), which is based on a required reduction factor (expressed as a percentage relative to the EEDI baseline). Review mechanism The draft amendments would require the IMO to review the effectiveness of the implementation of the CII and EEXI requirements, by 1 January 2026 at the latest, and, if necessary, develop and adopt further amendments. IMO’s Initial GHG Strategy is to be revised by 2023. MEPC 76 The MEPC 76 session meets in remote session 10-17 June 2021.
