Express (ONE) has nearly tripled its net profit forecast FY2025 against an uncertain outlook for container shipping.
For Q1 FY2025 ended 30 June, ONE reported a net profit of $779 million up 72% on the same period in the previous year Revenues for Q1 FY2025 were $4.21 billion up 12%.
Reviewing the market situation the company noted that cargo movements had become stronger against a background of container ship capacity becoming increasingly tight. “Cargo movements are in a recovery trend, with personal consumption spending remaining strong in North America and consumer demand recovering due to easing inflation in Europe,” ONE said.
While there has been high tonnage supply due to an influx of new buildings the continuing uncertainty in the Middle East and diversions by the Cape of Good Hope have resulted in a reversal oversupply. This is reflected in an increase of spot freight across multiple trades
including Asia – Europe and Asia – North America in Q1 FY2025 compared to the previous quarter
In common with other major lines, ONE has diverted its Asia – Europe/Med services via the Cape of Good Hope to avoid Houthi attacks on commercial shipping in the Red Sea. Only CMA CGM among the largest lines is operating a single Asia – Europe service via the Red Sea and the Suez Canal.
Looking ahead ONE has increased its net profit guidance for FY2024 to $2.75 billion compared to $1 billion previously. However, ONE stressed the difficulty in forecasting due to an “extremely uncertain” outlook for Q2 FY2025 and beyond.
Much of the increased profit guidance falls in Q2 with an expectation of a $1.47 billion profit for the period. ONE forecast a much lower level of a $500 million in H2 FY2025.
The company noted the demand – supply balance remains uncertain beyond Q2, although a normalisation of the situation in the Middle East was “expected to take some time”.
LUCKNOW: The Uttar Pradesh Government, with the aim of accelerating industrial development, has initiated the process to establish 33 Integrated Manufacturing and Logistics Clusters (IMLCs) along expressways across 30 districts of the state.
The districts earmarked for the construction of these IMLCs, covering a total area of 6,149.30 hectares, include key locations such as Meerut, Hapur, Amroha, Sambhal, Budaun, Shahjahanpur, Hardoi, Unnao, Rae Bareli, Pratapgarh and Prayagraj, all connected by the Ganga Expressway
Similarly, the process of construction of IMLCs in Chitrakoot in the form of an industrial corridor, as well as a node for the Defence Industrial Corridor, is proposed alongside the Bundelkhand Expressway. The IMLCs in Banda, Hamirpur, Mahoba, Jalaun and Auraiya are also proposed near Bundelkhand Expressway
Furthermore, IMLCs are also proposed near the AgraLucknow Expressway, Gorakhpur Link Expressway and Purvanchal Expressway To facilitate these developments, various reports will be compiled to complete the environmental and other clearance processes. The Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) has initiated this process
According to the plan formulated by the state government, the 33 Integrated Manufacturing and Logistics Clusters to be established across 30 districts will be situated along five major expressways These include the Ganga Expressway, Bundelkhand Expressway, Agra-Lucknow Expressway, Gorakhpur Link Expressway, and Purvanchal Expressway
Out of these, additional land allotments for t h e D e f e n c e I n d u s t r i a l Corridor will be made in Agra and Aligarh along the Agra-Lucknow Expressway Industrial corridors will also be established as IMLC in Firozabad, Etawah and Kannauj Additionally, a land node for the Defence Industrial Corridor is proposed in Kanpur along with the construction of an industrial corridor The plan includes developing an industrial corridor on 62.93 hectares in Gorakhpur along the Gorakhpur Link Expressway, and additional industrial corridors in 143.63 hectares and 230.84 hectares in Ambedkar Nagar.
For the Purvanchal Expressway, the development of industrial corridors under IMLC is proposed in 90 hectares in Lucknow, 246.30 hectares in Barabanki, 148.68 hectares in Amethi, 338.99 hectares in Sultanpur and 415.21 hectares in Ghazipur
Since environmental and forest clearances are required for all scheduled projects, the UPEIDA has initiated a Request for Proposal (RFP) process to select a consultant agency. Once the selection process is complete, the agency will be assigned the task of preparing and compiling various reports related to the IMLC project within 120 days.
The agency will need to conduct surveys in all designated areas and for m a team comprising environmental specialists, socio-economic experts, and forest-ecology and biodiversity professionals to complete the necessary assessments.

SURAT:SuratDiamondBourse(SDB) stated, all necessary formalities were finalized on Tuesday The customs house, which occupies an area of 40,000 square feet, isnowreadyforuse
“The CBIC notified SDB under the Customs Act. Furthermore, SDB was launched as the custodian on the Indian Customs EDI System (ICES) platform,” the SDB statement said.
As Surat International Airport is not authorized for international cargo, SDB requested space allocation for a strongroom from Mumbai International Airport Ltd and sought transshipment approval from Mumbai Customs On
Tuesday, the Customs Commissioner of Mumbai approved SDB as a customs custodian. Once customs clearance is granted at SDB, gem and jewellery consignments can be sent directly to Mumbai airport, informed SDB officials.
Lalji Patel, Vice-President of the SDB committee, stated, “The customs house approval will make it easier for the diamond traders to import and export from SDB. This will give a major boost to the diamond business of the city. It used to take a couple of days to process via Mumbai.”
Additionally, the Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC)
has established a Special Notified Zone (SNZ) at SDB. This initiative aims to f u r t h e r f a c i l i t a t e t h e d i r e c t procurement of diamonds brought to the SNZ for viewing by mining companies. According to recent budget announcements, the Safe Harbour Rule will allow foreign companies to sell rough diamonds in SNZ at globally competitive prices.
This development is expected to significantly enhance the efficiency and ease of doing business for diamond traders in Surat, positioning the city as a major hub in the global diamond industry

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The V.O. Chidambaranar Port, as part of its plan to increase its cargo handling capacity to 50 million tonnes per annum, has unveiled a range of plans, including dredging of the North Cargo Berth by October this year, to handle vessels up to 14 20-metre draf t, besides deploying state-of-the-art cranes.
In a statement, Chair man, VOC Port, Susanta Kumar Purohit said the seaport, one of the leading containers and bulk handling Port in South India, has the installed cargo handling capacity of 81 05 million metric tonnes per annum. The port has handled a cargo volumes of 13.17 million tonnes, including 2.47 lakh TEUs of containers during current fiscal till July 25, marking an overall g r o w t h o f 5 2 9 % a n d 4 7 3 % respectively.
The Port has set a target of handling 50 million tonnes of cargo during this financial year despite capacity constraints at the present. To accomplish the set target, the port is forging ahead with initiatives for
capacity augmentation and cargo evacuation plans to increase productivity and reduce the turnaround-time of the vessels calling the Port.
With identified potential volumes in the primary and secondary hinterland, the port is in the process of upgrading its infrastructure to provide more efficient handling at reduced per unit cost and to increase its market share in the region.
To augment the capacity of the bulk cargo handling at the Port, the North cargo berth-III (NCB-3) with Length Overall (LOA) of 306 metres will be dredged by the Port by October this year to handle vessels up to 14.20 metres draft. The dredging will also be done in parallel in the entrance channel, approach channel and turning circle area of the port.
To give a fillip to the container trade, the Port’s 3rd Container Terminal ‘Tuticorin International Container Terminal’, which is operated by JM Baxi Group, will have a draft of 14 20 metres, LOA of 370 metres and capacity to handle 6 lakh TUEs of containers. Structural works, surface treatments and
installation of fenders and bollards have been completed and the works like berth refurbishment, fixing of crane rails, cabling etc. are being executed rapidly so as to commission it by September this year.
In addition, the port has also planned to deploy a floating crane and 3 barges to handle additional 2 million tonnes of bulk cargo at anchorage in a couple of years. To handle smaller vessels of around 120 meters of LOA and parallel body length 52 metres to 55 metres in the Port’s oil jetty, 2 mooring dolphins with necessary infrastructure will be constructed by mid-2025.
“With the above planned capacity augmentations, the port is set to increase the throughput by over 50 million tonnes by the end of this financial year The port is taking all efforts to provide the necessary infrastructure to the Export-Import trade for seamless cargo handling and evacuation By prioritising innovation and sustainability, we aim to facilitate seamless operations, reduce lead times, and enhance overall customer satisfaction,” Mr. Purohit said.
NEW DELHI: Beginning August 1, 2024, the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) will e n f o r c e u p d a t e d F A S T a g regulations designed to enhance toll payment processes and reduce traffic congestion at toll plazas. These new guidelines will impact FASTag users significantly.
KYC U p d a t e s a n d FA S Ta g Replacements
As part of the new r ules, FASTag service providers are required to complete Know Your Customer (KYC) updates for all FASTags issued between three to five years ago by October 31, 2024. According to the NPCI's latest guidelines, "Starting August 1, the race against time begins for c o m p a n i e s o f f e r i n g FA S Ta g services." It is essential for FASTag holders to ensure their KYC details are up-to-date to avoid service disruptions.
Fu r t h e r m o r e , t h e N P C I mandates that any FASTag older than five years must be replaced. This measure aims to ensure the reliability and accuracy of toll
payments. Vehicle owners should verify the issuance dates of their FASTags and act promptly to meet this requirement.
FASTag providers must also implement several new measures under the updated regulations. They are required to:
1.Ve r i f y
databases with accurate vehicle information.
2.Upload clear photos of the vehicle's front and side to facilitate easier identification.
3.E n s u r e e a c h FA S Ta g i s connected to a mobile number to improve communication.
Effective August 1, all FASTags must be linked to the vehicle’s registration number and chassis number. This change is crucial for improving the accuracy of toll transactions. New vehicle owners must update their registration n u m b e r w i t h i
"FASTag providers are required to e n s u r e t h e i r d a t a b a s e s a r e accurate and current," including verifying and updating all details associated with the FASTag Enhanced Identication and Communication
In addition to these changes, FASTag providers are now required to upload clear photos of the vehicle's front and side to facilitate easy identification. Each FASTag must also be connected to a mobile n u m b e r, e n s u r i n g s m o o t h communication and updates. The NPCI's emphasis on transparency and accountability is evident in these new requirements.
The deadline for completing all K Y C u p d a t e s a n d FA S Ta g replacements is October 31, 2024. The NPCI stresses the importance of adhering to these deadlines to prevent any unforeseen issues. As noted, "Missing these deadlines c o u l d l e a d t o s i g n i f i c a n t i n c o n v e n i e n c e s , " m a k i n g i t essential for users to stay informed and act promptly.
