India Post looks at private sectors to improve supply chain management

NEW DELHI : Indian government is looking at roping in private players for route optimization of the Indian Postal network. The department of posts under the Ministry of Communications is looking at route optimizationofitsnetwork.

It is learnt that the PPP (publicprivate-partnership) option for the endeavour is under discussion and someagreementshavebeenfinalised forboostingorderfulfillment.

A lion’s share of India Post’s revenues comes from the parcels and it wants to optimize that because that’s where they want to maximize the revenues, experts feel.

Globally a lot of postal companies are engaged in optimizing their route network, driver management etc.

It is learnt that the government has developed a framework of this BOT (build-operate-transfer) module. They have also invited comments for public evaluation and the Government has proposed a 30-year moratorium in terms of building the assets and then givingitbacktorailways.

One such partnership is with NimbusPost, for which an initial agreementhasbeensignedwithIndia Post to provide seamless shipping experience for eCommerce sellers andbuyers.

“With this partnership, we aim to expand our countrywide reach by leveraging the most extensive and robust courier network of India Post. We look forward to adding more value to the Indian eCommerce and shipping industry through this promising collaboration,” said Yash Jain, the Founder and CEO of NimbusPost.

Following the partnership, NimbusPost will integrate its platform with India Post’s APIs to provide end-to-end shipping solutions, including pick-up, packaging, and delivery services. The collaboration will also enable eCommerce sellers to track their shipments in real-time and receive notifications at every stage of the shippingprocess.
