DPA presents progress of MoUs executed during GMIS 2023 Stakeholder’s Meet held on Implementa on of MoUs at GMIS 2023

Cont’d from Pg. 2

The major portion of these MoUs were related to development of Green Hydrogen Hub at Deendayal Port. Ongoing e-auction and

record breaking response for 3,600 acres land for Developement of Green Hydrogen Hub was briefly updated by Chairperson, DPA. Hon'ble Minister and Secretary, Shipping both during their address, have expressed utmost satisfaction towards progress in the specific sector by DPA.

Odisha Govt signs VGF agreement with MSC to start Containerised cargo through Paradip Port Cont’d from Pg. 2

Mr. Saswat M i s h r a , Principal Secretary/ MSME Department and Capt. Deepak Tewari, MD of MSC Agency (India) Pvt. Limited signed the agreement in the presence of Minister Mr. Pratap Keshri Deb, Chief Secretary M r. P r a d e e p K u m a r Jena, and a host of other senior officials and stakeholders from the Government of Odisha and the Government of India. Companies and business entities located in Odisha are doing huge volumes of containerized cargo exports and imports. At present, they are doing this almost entirely through seaports outside Odisha, especially through Kolkata/Haldia and Vizag ports and incurring extra logistics costs which is making their business that much less remunerative. Moreover, by shifting export/import activity to seaports outside Odisha, the State is losing huge opportunities for job creation inside Odisha. Containerized cargo export/import happening through Paradip Port will immensely help exporters and importers of Odisha (by way of reducing their logistics costs). It will also lead to the generation of a huge number of direct and indirect employment in Odisha. Moreover, import and export through Paradip Port will also generate substantial tax revenue for the State Government.

MSC is the world’s largest container shipping company, accounting for about 23% of the Global share. Its feeder ships will come to Paradip Port twice or thrice a month. The Export Import container cargo of Paradip Port will be connected to Colombo from where MSC will take the cargo to any part of the globe in its mother ships (i.e. larger ships). Once business at Paradip Port grows, MSC’s feeder ships will come to Paradip Port more frequently. If MSC does not get enough business at Paradip, the Government of Odisha will compensate MSC as per the VGF agreement. MSME Department had floated an advertisement in November’2023 asking for a VGF proposal from shipping companies. Five shipping companies, including MSC, had responded to this advertisement. MSC was selected for the VGF agreement as its VGF requirement was lower than that of the other four companies. MSC is likely to start its Container cargo export/import shipping service from Paradip Port in March 2024.

During the World Governments Summit 2024

Mohammed Bin Rashid and Prime Minister of India lay Foundation Stone for “Bharat Mart” Project, A New Trade Gateway for India in Dubai DUBAI: His Highness Sheikh M o h a m m e d b i n R a s h i d Al Maktoum, V i c e P r e s i d e n t a n d Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and His Excellency Narendra Modi, Prime Minister of the Republic of India, laid the foundation stone for Bharat Mart, today during a c e r e m o n y a t t h e Wo r l d Governments Summit 2024. DP World unveiled plans for Bharat Mart, a Dubai marketplace set to open in 2026 that will offer a world-class trading platform for Indian manufacturers and exporters to access global markets. HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council of Dubai, also attended the ceremony. S Jaishankar, External Affairs Minister of India; Ajit Doval KC, National Security Advisor of India; Vinay Kwatra, Foreign Secretary, Ministry of External Affairs, G o v e r n m e n t o f I n d i a ; S u n j a y S u d h i r, Ambassador of India to the UAE; Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, Group Chairman and CEO of DP World, and members of DP World’s senior leadership team. Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, Group Chairman and CEO, DP World, said: “By laying the foundations for Bharat Mart, we are paving the way for stronger trade ties between the UAE and India. Our nations have set themselves the target of reaching $100 billion in non-oil bilateral trade by 2030, and Bharat Mart will support this goal, creating more opportunities for Indian manufacturers and contributing to government initiatives like Make in India and D33. With our world-class infrastructure, logistics capabilities and business-friendly ecosystem in Jafza, Bharat Mart will be the ideal gateway for Indian goods to efficiently reach the UAE and other high-growth markets in the Middle East, Europe and Africa.” Commenting on the launch, Mr. Rizwan Soomar, CEO & MD, DP World North Africa and India Subcontinent, said, “The establishment of Bharat Mart is an important milestone towards achieving the objective of USD 100 billion non-oil bilateral trade between India and UAE. This initiative will help connect India’s manufacturers with buyers from key markets such as Middle East, Africa, Central Asia, and Europe by showcasing goods manufactured in India at Bharat Mart, directly promoting exports from India. With its proximity to the Jebel Ali Port & Free Zone ecosystem, Bharat Mart will play a pivotal role in unlocking new possibilities for Indian exporters and further boost trade between the two nations by leveraging Dubai’s strength as an important hub for value addition, trading, and logistics”. Abdulla Bin Damithan, CEO and

Managing Director, DP World GCC, said: “India is among the UAE's top five trade partners, a relationship that has been significantly accelerated by a post-pandemic economic surge. This has created a dynamic trade landscape, and we remain steadfast in our commitment to fostering continued growth. Bharat Mart is designed to complement Jafza's existing offerings, providing Indian SMEs with a seamless platform to export their cargo to new markets and strengthening our position as a key trade gateway between the two nations." Spanning an area of 2.7 million square feet, with the first phase encompassing 1.3 million square feet, Bharat Mart is poised to become a mega distribution hub for Indian businesses to trade domestically in the UAE and re-export to regional and global markets. The market will be situated in the Jebel Ali Free Zone (Jafza) and will be part of a wider ecosystem of trade that DP World is developing through the Dubai Traders Market, a hybrid retail and wholesale marketplace that will host traders from around the world. Bharat Mart is planned to house 1,500 showrooms catering to retail and wholesale customers, and over 700,000 square feet of Grade A warehousing space, providing tenants with combined free zone and onshore benefits. The facility will also offer light industrial units, office spaces and meeting facilities. Bharat Mart will be conveniently located 11km from Jebel Ali Port, the largest seaport in the Middle East, and 15km from Al Maktoum International Airport, providing seamless multimodal logistics solutions for Indian exporters. Through the Jebel Ali ecosystem, traders will have direct connectivity to more than 150 maritime destinations and air links to over 300 cities. Dubai plays a significant role in the trade relationship between the UAE and India, with 87% or $44.9 billion of the total non-oil trade value of $51.4 billion flowing through the Emirate in 2022. Close to 1,500 Indian businesses have made Jafza their home in the UAE, trading more than five million metric tonnes of cargo valued at $8.6 billion.

Maharashtra has two Major Ports – Mumbai (Mumbai Port Authority) and Nhava Sheva (Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority), and the need for a mega port has been felt for quite some time now. In October 2023, the DP World, a leading global provider of smart endto-end logistics, and the JNPA signed an MoU to initiate willingness and co - operation between them for developing Vadhavan Port. Nestled towards the North of Mumbai along the Arabian coast, Vadhavan provides an ideal location for a port with a natural draft of 20 meters.

Its proximity to Mumbai as well as Gujarat along the western coast along with established connectivity to Northern and Central India via the national railway network and NH8 add to its attractiveness as a trade gateway to the region. DP World currently operates five container terminals in India – two in Nhava Sheva, one each in Mundra, Cochin and Chennai – with a combined capacity of approximately 6 million TEUs. The company has also announced the development of a new greenfield terminal at Tuna-Tekra that has an annual capacity of 2.19 million T E U s . O n c e Tu n a -T e k r a commences operations, DP World’s combined capacity in India will increase to 8.19 million TEUs.

MNRE issues guidelines for green hydrogen use in transport sector, allocates Rs. 496 Cr for pilot projects NEW DELHI: The Ministry of New & Renewable Energy (MNRE) has issued guidelines for the implementation of pilot projects for the use of Green Hydrogen in the Transport Sector, under the National Green Hydrogen Mission. Announced on February 14, 2024, these projects are part of India’s strategic move towards adopting cleaner energy alternatives to fossil fuels in transportation. With an allocated budget of Rs. 496 crore till the financial year 2025-26, the scheme aims to explore and enhance the application of Green Hydrogen in

vehicles, focusing on buses, trucks, and 4-wheelers. The initiative is expected to catalyze the development of both fuel cell-based and internal combustion engine-based propulsion technologies, alongside the establishment of hydrogen refueling stations. “With the falling costs of renewable energy and electrolyzers, it is expected that vehicles based on green hydrogen can become cost-competitive over t h e n e x t f e w y e a r s . Fu t u r e economies of scale and rapid technological advancements in the

field of vehicles powered by hydrogen are likely to further improve the viability of transport based on green hydrogen,” MNRE said in a statement. Under the National Green Hydrogen Mission, along with other initiatives, the MNRE will implement pilot projects for replacing fossil fuels in the transport sector with green hydrogen and its derivatives. These pilot projects will be implemented through the ministry of road transport and highways and implementing agencies nominated under the scheme.

January exports rise by 3%, despite Red Sea crisis; Trade decit narrows marginally : FIEO N E W D E L H I : Responding to January, 2024 trade data especially exports which rose by 3 percent US$ 36.92 billion, Mr Israr Ahmed said that the increase in exports despite the Red Sea crisis posing challenge on the logistics front, goes to show not only the resilience of the sector but also of the exporting community, who have continuously been braving such odds since Russia-Ukraine war. The exporters have consistently been performing, driving the growth of exports, and also adding to the growth m o m e n t u m o f t h e e c o n o m y. Mr Ahmed added that though the Imports rose by about 3 per cent yearon-year to US$ 54.41 billion in January this year, the trade deficit in January, 2024 stood at US$ 17.49 billion. Main growth drivers of merchandise exports during the month included

Petroleum Products, Engineering Goods, Iron Ore, Electronic Goods, Drugs & Pharmaceuticals, which is itself is a good sign as most of these sectors are labour-intensive sectors giving boost to employment creation in the country, said Mr Israr Ahmed. FIEO Chief further added that though during April-January this financial year, exports marginally dipped by 4.89 per cent to US$ 353.92 billion but our Imports dependence reduced by 6.71 per cent to US$ 561.12 billion. Mr Ahmed further reiterated that recent tensions in West Asia especially the threat for consignments routing through the Red Sea has further added to woes of the exporting community, as the freight rates have gone up unimaginably high, with further burden of various surcharge, pushing Indian exporters to hold back around 25% of the outbound shipments

transiting through the Red Sea, which added to the sense of scepticism and nervousness among the businesses and markets across the world. Mr Israr Ahmed also raised concern that much will depend on the new agreement to be signed with buyers during the new fiscal as the exporters have been absorbing the burden of increased freight cost as per the old agreement. FIEO President therefore reiterated that the need of the hour is to address the Red Sea crisis challenges by ensuring availability of marine insurance, regular supply of containers, and rationale increase in freight charges. The sector also needs easy & low cost of credit, marketing support, besides conclusion of some of the key FTAs with UK, Oman and EU soon. However, Mr Ahmed is optimistic that the FY 2023-24 exports will cross last year's figures.
