Shri. Akash Taneja, ITS, DC KASEZ.

Cont’d. from Pg. 4 The Zone boasts of being home to over 280 units focussed on the export market. It the largest employer in Kutch District with an employment of around 28,000 workers out of which nearly 40% are female work associates. Major items of export from the Zone are Chemicals & allied products, Engineering & Metallurgical products, Cosmetics/toiletry preparations, Pharmaceutical products, Food & agro products, Woven and knitted readymade garments, made-ups, Sewing machine needles and other light engineering goods as well as plastic items. The Zone also has the distinction of hosting several units in the “Circular Economy” segment comprising of 17 units in the Worn clothing and 23 units in the Plastic Recycling sectors. Since its inception, consistent and continuous growth has been the hallmark of export performance of this Zone with exports showing growth even during the testing times of the pandemic. From a humble export figure of Rs.7 lakhs in 1966-67 the exports touched Rs.7,060 crores in 2020-21. Further, during the current Financial Year the exports have touched a new high of Rs. 8,288.50 crores upto the end of February, 2022 representing an increase of 35.15% over the same period in the previous Financial Year. Besides excellent infrastructure, its strategic location and proximity to the Ports of Kandla and Mundra makes KASEZ one of the most sought-after destinations for export-focussed units. It is just 05 kilometers away from Kandla Port, India’s largest Public sector port and 60 kilometres from the Adani

Port & SEZ, the country’s largest Private port. While ensuring that it remains a beehive of business activities, the KASEZ administration has taken steps to make the 1000-acre expanse of the Zone a green belt with gardens, vistas and fruit-laden trees which enriches the work-environment for all the stakeholders. The Administration has planted more than 5 lakh trees in the Zone using the famed Miyawaki technique to increase the green cover and to reduce the carbon footprint of the SEZ. Besides being a robust engine of economic growth the KASEZ Authority and the units in the Zone have played their part in their obligation towards society as well. At the request of the District Administration of Kutch the Kandla SEZ Authority has installed an Oxygen Generating Plant having a capacity of 20 cu.m/hr along with an oxygen line at a total cost of Rs. 74.31 lacs in August 2021 at the Lilashah Kutiya COVID Hospital in Gandhidham. Two units of the Zone namely M/s Everest Kanto Cylinders and M/s Rama Cylinders have totally supplied over 98,000 empty oxygen cylinders during the second wave of COVID-19. These two units have met 100% percent of the oxygen cylinder demand in the state of Gujarat and have supplied around 80% of the total pan-India consumption of empty oxygen cylinders during the COVID-II phase. Besides the above, M/s. BVH Manufacturing- a unit in the SEZ donated items such as Medicines, Sanitizers, Masks etc. worth Rs. 12.00 lakhs to the Kutch District Administration. Other units in the Zone such as M/s V. Milak Enterprises, M/s Rusan Pharma Ltd. and M/s IFGL Refractories have also contributed to the social cause in the form of disposable beds, Paracetamol tablets and Paramedical staff to the District Administration. Interest subsidy scheme for exporters extended till March 2024: RBI MUMBAI : The Reserve Bank has extended the interest equalisation scheme for pre and post shipment rupee credit for MSME exporters till March 2024 with the objective of boosting outbound shipments. Exporters get subsidy under the 'Interest Equalisation Scheme for pre and post-shipment Rupee Export Credit'. In April last year, the scheme was first extended till June end and later till September 2021. The interest equalisation rates under the scheme have been revised to 2 per cent and 3 per cent for specified categories of MSME manufacturer exporters, the RBI said. "The government has approved the extension of Interest Equalization Scheme for Pre and Post Shipment

Rupee Export Credit up to March 31, 2024 or till further review, whichever is earlier. The extension takes effect from October 1, 2021 and ends on March 31, 2024," the RBI said in a notification. The scheme will not apply to telecom instruments and entities availing benefits under the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme of the government. While issuing approval to the exporter, the bank will be required to furnish the prevailing interest rate, the interest subvention being provided, and the net rate being charged to each exporter, so as to ensure transparency and greater accountability in the operation of the scheme, the RBI said. It further said from April 1, 2022,

banks shall reduce the interest rate charged to the eligible exporters upfront as per the guidelines and submit the claims in original within 15 days from the end of the respective month in the prescribed format. The RBI further said for the October 1, 2021 to March 31, 2022 period, banks shall identify the eligible exporters as per the scheme, credit their accounts with the eligible amount of interest equalisation and submit sector-wise consolidated reimbursement claim for the period to the Reserve Bank by April 30, 2022. India's merchandise export in February 2022 was USD 33.81 billion, an increase of 22.36 per cent over USD 27.63 billion in the same month of 2021.

Timely support through Interest Equalisation to propel exports: FIEO NEW DELHI : Commenting on the extension of the Interest Equalisation Scheme (IES), Dr A Sakthivel, President, FIEO said that the continuity of the IES scheme from 1.10.21 to 31.3.24 has provided the stability, which will help the exporters at a time when export

orders are flowing to India. The scheme will enable exporters to take a look at their long-term position. Since the interests are looking to firm up, the help extended by the scheme is most timely added FIEO President. He thanked the Hon'ble Prime

Minister, Commerce & Industr y Minister, Finance Minister and RBI Governor for supporting and facilitating the scheme. The upfront exemption provided with effect from 1st April 2022 will reduce the liquidity requirements of exporters added Dr Sakthivel.

India signs deals to export 500,000 Tonnes Wheat, as Global prices surge NEW DELHI : India has signed contracts to export about 500,000 tonnes of wheat in recent days, traders said, cashing in on a sharp rally in international prices and signalling a big uptick in overseas sales from the world's second biggest producer of the grain. Traders said last week they had received inquiries from buyers seeking alternatives to Black Sea cargoes as Russia's invasion of Ukraine threatened supplies from two producers which together account for 30% of world wheat exports.

After five consecutive record annual crops, India has large wheat inventories, and traders are keen to capitalise on any export opportunity. A high domestic price guaranteed by the government tends to deter exports unless world prices are high. "The surge in global prices has made it easier for Indian suppliers to meet the rising demand for wheat," said one dealer at a global trading firm. India guarantees producers about $257 a tonne for domestic sales, while benchmark European wheat jumped above 400 euros ($435) on Monday and

benchmark wheat prices in Chicago settled at their highest in 14 years. India is set to export a record 7 million tonnes of wheat this year. "The buyers, who are worried about supply disruptions from Ukraine and Russia, know that only India can be a big, steady supplier of wheat at this point of time, and that's why they have turned to India," the dealer said. India has sealed deals to export about 500,000 tonnes of wheat in recent days, he said. Two other traders, who also did not wish to be named, confirmed the figure.

Substantial reduction in Coal imports despite rise in demand :Govt NEW DELHI : With increase in domestic production of coal, India has achieved significant reduction in import despite surge in power demand. Imports of all grades of Non Coking Coal has come down to 117.507 Million Ton (MT) during April - December 2021 from 147.85 MT during the corresponding months of FY 20, leading to a decline of about 20.52%. The import of Non Coking coal, primarily used in power sector has decreased by 59.20% from 52.49 MT to 21.41 MT upto Dec 2021 in comparison to the same period of FY 20. The overall import of coal has also reduced to 160.84 MT in the period April to December 2021 as compared to 186.65 MT during the corresponding period of FY 20, indicating a decrease of about 13.82% which has resulted in significant savings of forex reserves this year especially when the coal prices are at a high level in the international market.

All efforts are on to further enhance domestic coal production as availability of additional coal will aid in importsubstitution of coal. The domestic coal based power generation upto December 2021 is 727.39 BU (Billion Units) with an increase of 12.10% over generation of 648.843 BU during the corresponding period of FY 20. Imported coal based power generation which was 69.56 BU during April to Dec 2019 has reduced by 53.10% to 32.62 BU during corresponding months of current FY 22. The financial year 2020-21 is not being taken for comparison purpose due to industrial production getting severely affected because of Covid–19 pandemic. India is the world’s third largest energy consuming country and electricity demand grows by 4.7% every year. To reduce dependence on imports of coal, major reforms have been carried

out by the Ministry of Coal with the vision of “AtmaNirbhar Bharat”. The Ministry has also amended the Mineral Concession (Amendment) Rules, 1960 under MMDR (Amendment) Act, 2021 to allow lessee of captive mines to sell coal or lignite up to 50% of the total excess production after meeting the requirements of the end- use plant. With this amendment, the Ministry has paved the way for releasing of additional coal in the market by greater utilization of mining capacities of captive coal blocks which has led to increase in production of coal by 36.75% from 45.47 MT upto Dec 2019 to 62.18 MT during corresponding period of FY 22. The reforms have led to an increase in domestic production of coal by 8.68% and consequently, the overall coal production rose at 522.34 MT upto December 21 as compared to 480.62 MT in the corresponding months of FY 20.

other processed food items grew by 14 per cent during April-January 2021-22 to touch USD 2956 million against USD 2599 million in April-January, 2020-21. The cashew exports also grew by 11 per cent to USD 383 million in the first ten months of current fiscal compared to same period previous year. The significant rise in agri-exports is seen as a testimony of the government’s commitment to increase farmers’ income through giving thr ust on boosting exports of agricultural and processed food products of the country. “We continue to focus on creating infrastructure for boosting exports by focusing on clusters in collaboration with state governments while taking into consideration objective of Agriculture Export Policy, 2018,” Dr M Angamuthu, Chairman, APEDA, said. “We are also promoting exports of Geographical Indication registered products along with those unique from the north-eastern and hilly states,” Angamuthu said.

Exporters seek freight support, flag refund issues with Government NEW DELHI: Exporters have sought freight support from the government, and flagged the issues of pending goods and services tax (GST) refunds and the status of various export incentive schemes. In a meeting with commerce and industry ministry on Tuesday, exporters said that freight

support is much required. With crude oil prices soaring to their highest since 2008 at $139 per barrel amid the RussiaUkraine conflict, container rates have risen ten-fold in less than a fortnight while war insurance premiums are up 3-5%, as per sources. “We are unable to execute exports

as most of them would be made at a loss with high freight charges,” said a representative of an export body who participated in the meeting. India’s merchandise exports in April-February FY22 were $374.05 billion, up 45.8% year-on-year while imports rose 59.21% to $550.12 billion.

Drewry: Multipurpose Time Charter Index up by 1.7% during February LONDON: The Drewry Multipurpose Time Charter Index tracks one-year period charter rates across a basket of vessel types and sizes and forecasts the market movement over the coming month. The vessel types include breakbulk and project cargo ships. Drewry’s latest assessment The Drewry Multipurpose Time Charter Index increased to $10,987 per day in February, representing a rise of 1.7% compared to the 2.2% rise seen in the previous month. Rates were in line with expectations over February, with

a slight slowdown in rate growth. That said, Drewry’s Index is up 69% since February 2021. Whilst the geopolitical situation casts a huge cloud over all of us, the short-term implications are unclear. There remains very little spot market availability so any further rate increases due to the conflict are likely to be slow to hit the market. We do expect rates to continue to rise over March but again at much weaker growth rates of just 1.0% to $11,100 per day. The Short-sea market saw little change in sentiment over February, indeed for last 6-9 months the question

has been more about availability in this sector than rate paid. However, the significant upturn in bunker prices at month end, caused by the appalling geopolitical situation, bring a huge amount of uncertainty to the market. This sector is likely to be directly affected with the trades to and from Ukraine and Russia, particularly steel and grain, causing a shift in demand and potentially mode, as hundreds of bulk carriers are impacted. There is also a significant Russian flagged fleet, but it is still too early to assess the longer-term implications of the impact of sanctions.

Defence Ministry allocates land to expand cargo infra at Pune Airport PUNE : The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has approved the allocation of a 13-acre plot adjacent to Pune Airport for the construction of cargo infrastructure. This will benefit the western Maharashtra region for the export of agriculture and industrial products.

Earlier, the MoD had given consent seperately to lease 2.5 acres of its land and to start work on the cargo terminal at the Lohegaon airport. This will be used to shift the existing cargo terminal. Union Minister for Road Transport NitinGadkari tweeted, “ I am very happy to announce that Ministry of Defence

has approved to allot 13 acres of adjacent land of BSO yard to Airports Authority of India for construction of International and Domestic cargo infrastructure at Pune Airport. This will benefit Western Maharashtra region for export of agriculture and Industrial Products”.
