Leading the way for 150 years : DB Schenker heads into anniversary year • Expert in logis cs since 1872 • Jubilee claim “150 Years Eleva ng Lives” • Fes vi es on all con nents • Global employee challenge to support charity projects ESSEN: From horsedrawn carriage to freighter drones: In 2022, DB Schenker celebrates its 150th corporate anniversary. Building on extensive experience in supply chain management, the Germany-headquartered company has long become one of the world’s leading logistics service providers. Today marks the kick-off into an anniversary year with a multitude of external and internal festivities, underlining DB Schenker’s vision of advancing businesses and lives by shaping the way the world connects. On July 1, 1872, Gottfried Schenker founded DB Schenker in Vienna in Austria. His approach of combining individual shipments to collective consignments was a game-changing innovation for that time. Building on this legacy, the company’s reach has expanded around the globe and into all modes of transport. This year, DB Schenker is looking ahead towards further shaping the industry’s future through innovative, digital, and sustainable solutions.
Under the claim “150 Years Elevating Lives”, the anniversary year features an internal employee competition connecting all colleagues across countries and even continents. With the help of a dedicated smartphone app, employees can count their steps and track further physical and mental activities. For all sporting achievements counted, DB Schenker will donate to carefully selected charitable organizations that relate to the company’s commitment to the UN Sustainable Development Goals. For the first quarter of the year, all donations raised will be given to WeForest, an environmental protection organization, to support tree planting, forest conservation, and further local sustainability projects in Brazil and Ethiopia. Upcoming charity projects will include ocean and air protection, and social initiatives.

Tufail Chemical Industries partners with A.P. Moller - Maersk for digitalising their supply chain management
KARACHI: Tufail Chemical Industries and Maersk Pakistan signed a partnership earlier this week wherein Maersk would provide ‘Maersk Flow’, a digital tool, to Tufail Chemical to streamline and manage their supply chains efficiently. The partnership marks a significant step towards modernising logistics and improving supply chain performance with less time and effort. Tufail Chemical Industries conducts business with tech and appliance industries and has been importing plastic raw material, industrial chemicals, aluminium products, and polymer for their manufacturing processes. Tufail Chemical Industries has now built additional manufacturing capacity and is not only satisfying local requirements but also expanding into global market with export footprint. “Expansion of our business has led to increased complexity in our supply chains. Challenges such as lack of visibility on inbound shipments, milestones updates, documentation status and communication with our suppliers became more prominent, and ultimately started impacting our day-to-day routines, “ Pervez Tufail, CoChairman, Tufail Chemical Industries. Maersk Pakistan, Tufail Chemical Industries’ ocean transportation partner, stepped in to offer a pilot run of ‘Maersk Flow’, a digital supply chain management tool to streamline their supply chains. The ‘Maersk Flow’ solution enables transparency in critical supply chain processes
and ensures that the flow of goods and documents is executed as planned. It also reduces manual work and costly mistakes, while empowering logistics professionals with all the current and historical data they need to sustainably improve their supply chain. Saira Yasin, Director Exports, Tufail Chemical Industries added, “With ‘Maersk Flow’ our team is able to plan our operations accurately, thus avoiding excess inventory at the warehouse and we are now able to shift our end products rapidly to the market.” “Every day, thousands of products are moving through our customer’s supply chain, on multiple carriers, coming from and reaching many supply chain partners and stakeholders. This complexity has traditionally been managed fully manually via spreadsheets, emails and phone calls, which despite lots of hard work is leading to reduced visibility and control – and ultimately higher costs or lost sales. With ‘Maersk Flow’ we have offered Tufail Chemical Industries to take full control of their supply chain management and ensure that the flow of goods and documents is executed as planned, “ said, Wajeeh Ud Din Ahmed, Chief Commercial Ofcer, Maersk Pakistan. ‘Maersk Flow’ extends Maersk’s customer reach and strengthens the company’s position as an industry leader in digital solutions. It also plays the role of an important link in the integrated logistics solutions offered by Maersk to its customers while ensuring all their end-to-end logistics are taken care of under the same roof.

MOL CEO Hashimoto's 2022 New Year Message T O KYO : M O L Pr e s i d e n t & C E O Takeshi Hashimoto delivered the following "2022 New Year Online Message" to all MOL Group officers and employees on land and at sea on January 4. “Happy New Year, everyone. First of all, I would like to wish the entire MOL Group family the very best for the New Year. Now let me share some of my thoughts as we enter 2022.” 2021 in Review 2021 was a year when we saw the continuing impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, which began in 2020. We formulated our new guideline and took various measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19 at all of our workplaces. I sincerely hope that our daily lives and economic activities would get back to normal more quickly as a result of these measures, but global infections have continued beyond expectations. I don't have to remind you of the burdens the pandemic put on your daily lifestyles, not to mention your work routines. In particular, it put additional strain on our seagoing employees and crewmembers aboard our vessels, who continued to support our business on the front lines, facing not only anxiety about the virus, but also the additional stress of longer onboard assignments due to restrictions on crew changes. I believe our company successfully fulfilled its responsibility to uphold the shipping industry as a key element of the worldwide social infrastructure. I want to express my gratitude to all of you once again. On a positive note, I want to highlight the performance of our group employee Kae Kurahashi in the international sport event last year. She played a key role in helping Japan's national wheelchair rugby team win the bronze medal. Her commitment to success in this tough competition inspired courage in MOL Group officers and employees. We wish her ongoing success in the future and will continue to give our support. Looking back at the world economy over the past year, demand showed a swift recovery due to proactive economic support measures in many countries. A shortage of semiconductors led to slowdowns in production of automobiles and other products, logistics were disrupted because of lack of capacity in responding to recovering demand, and energy and natural resource prices spiked-the ocean shipping market experienced the impacts of all these factors. But the industry as a whole remained solid, backed by expanding cargo trade and an improving fleet demand and supply balance. Thus, MOL Group's business performance improved remarkably. A significant increase in revenue for our container shipping company, Ocean Network Express (ONE), is the biggest factor, but the dry bulk business and car carrier business also improved significantly over the previous year. The LNG carrier business also brought in steadily increasing profits. On the other hand, 2021 was a tough year for the tanker business, which weathered a downturn in the VLCC market, and ferry and cruise ship businesses which faced a sharp decrease in passengers due to the COVID-19 pandemic. On a group-wide basis, however, we expect to post all-time record high results for this fiscal year. Key financial indices such as our debt equity ratio also shows a significant improvement. 2022 Prospects Speaking of the business environment in 2022, I hope that the COVID-19 pandemic will be over and we will see a normalization of economic activities and social lives. However, I think the impact of COVID-19 will continue for a little while longer, partly due to the emergence of virus variants. In addition, 2022 will still be a year of high uncertainty, with globally expanding inflation and deterioration of the U.S.-China relationship. In addition, debate around the world related to social sustainability, especially the climate change issue, may intensify. We must continue to pay close attention to worldwide trends related to environmental issues, particularly decarbonization, which will have a major impact on our business. We shall always keep our antenna up to monitor how national governments and international companies respond to various issues facing the world, such as the environment, the global economy, and geopolitical issues. In September of last year, MOL joined the World Economic Forum, the venue that brings together the world's leading organizations and companies, and I try to proactively participate in exchange of opinions as much as possible. So, everyone, please raise your awareness of changes in the world, proactively participate in various opportunities to discuss the future of our group and share your constructive opinions.
Environmental Strategies MOL announced the " M O L G r o u p Environmental Vision 2.1" in June 2021, and already set forth three mid-to-long-term targets, namely, "Deploy net zero emissions ocean-going vessels in the 2020s," "Reduce GHG emissions intensity by approximately 45% by 2035 (versus 2019)", and "With the concerted effort throughout the Group, achieve net zero GHG emissions by 2050." We are progressing toward the introduction of LNG-fueled vessels, which is the most effective measure to reduce GHG emissions at the present moment, and introduced our plan to expand the fleet to 90 vessels by 2030. Last year, we announced to invest in LNG-fueled car carriers and Capesize bulkers. This year, we will not only accelerate investment in LNG-fueled vessels, but also invest in low-/de-carbonization businesses such as offshore wind power. We will also step up initiatives to reduce our environmental impact, by adopting the digital transformation (DX) and improving the vessel operational efficiency. We also position reinforcement of group management as a high-priority issue in the coming year. On November 30, we announced tender offers targeting our group companies Daibiru Corporation and Utoc Corporation and the offering period is currently underway. When this is completed and these two companies become wholly owned subsidiaries, we will develop a system that enables both companies to grow by leveraging the group's management resources more effectively than ever. I believe that deepening collaboration with both companies will lead to group-wide global growth. Workstyle Reforms The quest for new workstyles in the post-COVID era is an important theme. We need to combine the best points of each communication method-online and face-to-face-and strive to improve productivity. The Improvement of Work Efficiency Committee in the Tokyo Headquaters has held repeated discussions in our search for a new workstyle worthy of the new era. Advancing digitalization of daily operations to take full advantage of the efficiency and convenience of online communication is not only quite effective, but also has become indispensable to maintaining our competitiveness. On the other hand, let's gain a new appreciation of the value of face-to-face communication. Since I took the post as president & CEO, certain thingsnamely, meetings with customers and business partners and visiting group companies-have not turned out the way I had hoped. Opportunities to verify, evaluate, and adjust my decisionmaking and opportunities to find out about new ideas are limited without having enough face-to-face conversations. When the pandemic finally eases, I look forward to creating more opportunities to exchange opinions with various people in various places while I continue my "freshman" year as President & CEO. My Roles and Aspirations as President & CEO In the "MOL Report 2021" issued last year, I said "I want MOL to be viewed as an excellent company in every respect. That is my goal," as my roles and aspirations. That means, both in Japan and around the world, MOL will become a company that can earn a favorable reputation not just for service quality but in all aspects of operations, including corporate robustness and profitability, the high quality of the company's personnel, a management philosophy that reflects our values and aspirations, technological capabilities, and social trust. This means MOL Group officers and employees can work with a strong sense of duty and great pride in a stable business environment. The MOL Group is active not only in conventional ocean shipping business, but is also moving to broadly expand its business to offshore, logistics, and real estate businesses. Let's aim to improve our corporate value based on the new MOL Group Corporate Mission, Group Vision, and Group Values "MOL CHARTS", announced in April last year, by steadily implementing our management plan and addressing sustainability issues. Compliance is obviously essential if we are to remain an excellent company. And I would like to emphasize once more that the foundation of our business is to ensure safe operation. Finally, I want to pledge my commitment to safe voyages for all MOL Group-operated vessels. I wish you and your family a very happy New Year, as well as good health, happiness, success, and prosperity.

COVID surge: DPIIT sets up control room to monitor delivery, logistics of essential commodities NEW DELHI: The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) has set up a control room to monitor issues related to transportation and delivery of goods and essential commodities due to curbs imposed by various states in view of the rising number of coronavirus infections. In April last year, the department had set up a similar control room. The issues reported by stakeholders through this control room will be taken up with the state/UT governments concerned, according to a communication of the department to all industry and trade associations. "Due to the surge in the COVID cases across the country, DPIIT has taken cognizance of the steps taken by various state governments/UTs to control the spread of COVID cases. Therefore, as a measure of precaution and for supporting our business ecosystem, DPIIT will monitor the status and issues arising (if any) during transportation and delivery of goods and essential commodities due to the restrictions (if any)
imposed by various state governments/UTs," it said. It added that in the event of any manufacturing, transportation, distribution, wholesale or e-commerce companies facing difficulties in transportation and distribution of goods or mobilisation of resources, it can be informed to the department at dpiit-controlroorn@gov.in. Telephone numbers 91 11 23063554, 23060625 will remain functional from 9 AM to 9 PM. Total 2,135 cases of Omicron variant of coronavirus have been detected across 24 states and UTs, out of which, 828 have recovered or migrated, according to the Union Health Minister. India saw a single-day rise of 58,097 new coronavirus infections, the highest in around 199 days, taking the total tally of cases to 3,50,18,358. The active cases were recorded above 2 lakh after around 81 days, according to the data updated at 8 am. Several states including Delhi, Punjab and Maharashtra have imposed certain restrictions such as night curfew.
J&K Govt signs MoU with LuLu Group to set up food processing & logistics hub in Srinagar DUBAI - J&K Government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with LuLu Group to set up a food processing & logistics hub in Srinagar, in the presence of Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha and LuLu group Chairman, Yusuff Ali MA. The historic agreement was signed by Principal Secretary, Industries & Commerce, J&K UT, Ranjan Prakash Thakur and Ashraf Ali MA, Executive Director, LuLu Group, said an official spokesman. Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha also inaugurated J a m m u & K a s h m i r p r o m o t i o n w e e k a t t h e Lu Lu Hypermarket, Dubai. The Lt Governor said the MoU with LuLu group will further expand Jammu Kashmir-Dubai collaboration and Jammu Kashmir-LuLu Group partnership. “Relations between India and UAE are long-standing & deep rooted. People-to-people contact and trade have seen momentum in the recent years under the leadership of Hon'ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” the Lt Governor said. “The world-famous GI tagged saffron has been launched at LuLu Hypermarket, which I see as a major step towards boosting Jammu Kashmir and Dubai partnership. LuLu group is already importing apple from Jammu Kashmir and with saffron, we are adding Kashmir's finest spice to the basket. I am certain this new
beginning will take our trade to unprecedented levels,” the Lt Governor further added. “Trade between Jammu & Kashmir and Dubai has remained steady, despite Covid-19 challenges and it reflects the resilience of our deep economic linkages. The MoU will further expand Jammu Kashmir-Dubai collaboration and Jammu Kashmir-Lulu Group partnership,” the Lieutenant Governor said. It is pertinent to mention that Jammu & Kashmir is number one in the production of Saffron, Apple, Walnut and Almond in India. The MoU with the LuLu group will help the UT to reach out to shoppers at 190 LuLu Hypermarkets across the GCC and Egypt.
India’s trade decit could soon double to $200 billion, as domestic demand drives up imports NEW DELHI: The unfavorable gap between India’s imports and exports is expected to widen further in the current and the next financial year, with the trade deficit soon doubling to hit the $200 billion level. India reported record exports and imports trade deficit numbers for the month of December. The record trade numbers in December were likely on the back of positive price effect, seasonal uptick, and buoyancy in global and domestic demand, according to a note from Kotak Securities. The country’s trade deficit is expected to widen to $190 billion in the current fiscal year 2021-22, and further to $200 billion in the next fiscal year 2022-23, according to Kotak Securities. This compares with the $102 billion deficit reported in the last financial year 2020-21. Analysts at brokerage firm Emkay Global Financial Services said that going ahead, factors such as the new global and domestic headwinds amid the new omicron variant and persistent supply constraints needs to be watched out for as they could slow the cyclical global recovery. In terms of current account deficit (CAD) as a percentage of GDP, Kotak Securities sees CAD to be 1.7% of GDP for FY 2022
and 2023 while Emkay expects CAD-to-GDP at 1.7% in the current fiscal and at 1.8%+ in FY2023. Analysts at Kotak Securities also said that the current account is likely to be balanced by strong net capital flow of around $81 billion, with contribution of about 32% from FPI flows as India is expected to be included in the global bond indices. “We assume the announcements coming in early-2HFY23 after clarity on the related tax issue in the Finance Bill (in February-March) and settlement on Euroclear (assuming in 1HFY23),” analysts said. India exported goods worth $37.3 billion in December, up 37% from a year earlier and 37.6% from the pre-pandemic level, Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal said this week. The merchandise exports hit $300 billion during AprilDecember, a record for the first three quarters of any fiscal year to date. Top large exports were petroleum products, engineering goods, and gems and jewelry. India’s imported goods also hit a historical high rising 38.1% to $59.3 billion in December led by pickup in electronics imports and pearls, precious and semi-precious stones imports.

India to overtake Japan as Asia's 2nd largest economy by 2030: IHS LONDON: India is likely to overtake Japan as Asia's second-largest economy by 2030 when its GDP is also projected to surpass that of Germany and the UK to rank as world's No.3, IHS Markit said in a report. Currently, India is the sixth-largest economy in the world, behind the US, China, Japan, Germany and the United Kingdom. “India's nominal GDP measured in USD terms is forecast to rise from USD 2.7 trillion in 2021 to USD 8.4 trillion by 2030," IHS Markit Ltd said. "This rapid pace of economic expansion would result in the size of Indian GDP exceeding Japanese GDP by 2030, making India the second-largest economy in the Asia-Pacific region." By 2030, the Indian economy would
also be larger in size than the largest Wester n European economies of Germany, France and the UK. "Overall, India is expected to continue to be one of the world's fastestgrowing economies over the next decade," it said. The long-term outlook for the Indian economy is supported by a number of key growth drivers. "An important positive factor for India is its large and fast-growing middle class, which is helping to drive consumer spending," IHS Markit said, forecasting that the country's consumption expenditure will double from USD 1.5 trillion in 2020 to USD 3 trillion by 2030. For the full fiscal year 2021-22 (April 2021 to March 2022), India's real GDP
growth rate is projected to be 8.2 per cent, rebounding from the severe contraction of 7.3 per cent year-on-year in 2020-21, IHS Markit said. The Indian economy is forecast to continue growing strongly in the 2022-23 fiscal year, at a pace of 6.7 per cent. The rapidly growing domestic consumer market as well as its large industrial sector have made India an increasingly important investment destination for a wide range of multinationals in many sectors, including manufacturing, infrastructure and services. "The large increase in FDI inflows to India that has been evident over the past five years is also continuing with strong momentum in 2020 and 2021," it said.

Allow 24x7 truck movement till ports in Maharashtra, Karnataka to raise pace of sugar export: AISTA MUMBAI: With maximum quantities of exportable sugar getting lifted from Maharashtra and Karnataka putting pressure on logistics, trade body AISTA recently demanded respective state governments to allow truck movement 24X7 to increase the pace of export. Sugar mills have signed export deals for shipment of 40 lakh tonnes during the October-December period of the ongoing 2021-22 season, out of which 16.80 lakh tonne have been shipped. The remaining 4.70 lakh tonne is yet to be exported, the All India Sugar Trade A s s o c i a t i o n ( A I S TA ) s a i d i n a statement.
"Most of the sugar for export is getting lifted from sugar mills of Maharashtra and Karnataka. This has put severe pressure on the logistics in the states," AISTA said. Further, the truck movement to JSW Raigarh and Angre ports are allowed from 7 am to 6 pm only, which is "hampering movement of sugar consignment" to these ports, it said. "It is requested that the Governments of Maharashtra and Karnataka allow movement of trucks 24x7 to increase the pace of sugar exports," it added.
AISTA also said that the Amba Ghat road, which is the shortest distance to reach Angre and JSW ports, is closed due to landslides in the monsoon season. The Maharashtra and Karnataka governments may be requested to expedite the road repair work and complete it in a time-bound manner, it added. The trade body also requested the railway ministry to work on railway connectivity from the Kolhapur region to Jaigarh and Angre ports for smooth movement of sugar consignments to these ports.
Forex reserves dip by $1.46 bn in the last week of 2021 MUMBAI: India's foreign currency reserves dipped by $1.466 billion in the last week of 2021 to $633.614 billion, Reserve Bank of India's data showed. This reflects the fall in the valuation of reser ves held in other global currencies. RBI does not give any
reason behind the rise or fall in reserves. Foreign currency assets, which show the change in the valuation, fell by $1.480 billion to $569.89 billion. Forex reserves fell nearly $4billion in December due to unabated dollar
outflows as foreign portfolio investors (FPI) continue to offload their investments in local debt and equities ahead of Christmas and New Year holidays. FPIs offloaded nearly $3 billion of their investment in December alone.

APEDA working in collaboration with State Governments, farmers and others to boost honey exports N E W D E L H I : To harness export potential of honey in line with the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision of a ‘Sweet Revolution’ through promotion of beekeeping and allied activities, the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) has been giving thrust on boosting exports through ensuring quality production and market expansion to newer countries. At present, India’s natural honey exports are majorly dependent on one market - the United States, which accounts for more than 80 per cent of the exports.
“ We a r e w o r k i n g i n c l o s e collaboration with the state government, farmers and other stakeholders in the value chain to boost exports to other countries and regions such as the United Kingdom, European Union and South East Asia,” Dr M Angamuthu, Chairman, APEDA said. India's cotton exports begin to slide as premiums jump on lower crop NEW DELHI: Indian cotton exports have begun to slide as premiums over benchmark U.S. futures have jumped on expectations of lower output at a time when there is strong demand from locall textile mills, industry officials said. The higher premiums sought by India, the world's biggest cotton producer, could force Asian buyers such as Bangladesh, Vietnam and China to increase purchases from other suppliers such as the United States, Brazil, Australia and African nations. "Exports are nonviable. We are selling a small amount to Bangladesh,
but other buyers are not purchasing," Vinay Kotak, Director at Mumbai-based Kotak Ginning and Pressing Industries Pvt. Ltd told Reuters. Indian cotton is being offered at around 135 cents per lb, cost and freightbasis, to buyers in Bangladesh for January and February shipment, nearly 20 cents over U.S. futures, dealers with global trading firms said. Usually, India charges a premium of 5 to 10 cents/lb over U.S. futures. Record domestic prices could stifle exports in the 2021/22 marketing year e n d i n g o n S e p t . 3 0 , Ko t a k s a i d .
He predicted India will ship just 4 million bales compared to 7.8 million bales a year ago as buyers switch to rival suppliers. Indian mills have exported 1.8 million bales so far in the season and are likely to ship around 1 million bales in January and February, dealers said. India imported 1 million bales in 2020/21 and in the current season traders have contracted to import 700,000 bales, the New Delhi based dealer said. The country needs to import 2.5 million bales this year to arrest further gains in local prices, the dealer said.
