Essar Ports eyes V shaped recovery, economic recovery boost cargo handling in Q1 to 11.23 MT •June ’20 cargo grows by 75% compared to April ’20 •Green shoots of recovery post lockdown on account of pickup in activity in Steel, Power and Mining sectors MUMBAI : Between March and May this year, the longest lockdown of the world was imposed across India to check the spread of COVID -19.

Business operations came to a halt and all industries were affected. In the first quarter of FY2020-21, businesses have been on the move to optimize, reinvent and remain relevant so they could return to old performance levels. “Essar Ports takes pride in manifesting the honourable PM’s dream of an Aatmanirbhar Bharat. In June 2020, Unlock#1 was unleashed across the country, and the economy immediately started displaying green shoots of recovery. Our terminals, which remained operational despite challenges faced through the successive phases of the lockdown, have clocked an impressive cargo handling of 11.23 MT. We are well placed and prepared to ensure the

At Essar Ports, there was a dip in cargo handling in April 2020 on account of dwindling production of its key customers—mainly power and steel companies. However, during Q1 FY21, which is the quarter ending 30 June 2020, Essar Ports recorded an impressive cargo handling of 11.23 million tonnes (MT), with June 2020 cargo growing by 75% compared to the April tonnage.

APM Terminal Pipavav sets new standards in cargo handling during lockdown PIPAVAV: APM Terminals Pipavav ensured smooth operations much to the satisfaction of all its stakeholders, during the lockdown that came into effect on March 24th, 2020. APM Terminals Pipavav, being engaged in providing essential services, has remained operational even during the strict nationwide lockdown.

The port successfully handled more than 622 container trains. The port handled 186000 TEUs and out of which 110000 TEUs were transported by trains. The port also handled Dry Bulk shipments of 0.41 Mn MT and 0.21 Mn MT Liquid from April to June 2020 without any delay. The port created additional yard space and worked with extended logistics partners to ensure smooth flow of goods and addressed many emergent supply chains needs from the customers.

One of the key highlights during this period was handling 293 trains in April 2020 alone, marking the highest number of trains ever handled at the port in a single month. Additionally, a new benchmark was also set in the area of safety with the completion of 500 days of safe operations with zero fatality and Lost Time Incidents (LTI) in May 2020.

With the business continuity plan in place, APM Terminals Pipavav continued to operate within normal parameters without any significant disruption despite limited manpower. The port safeguarded safety of its employees by strictly following the safety measures like providing PPE kits, sanitising the work place, following social distancing during commute and at operation, etc.

The pilots & marine team have ensured seamless safe operations despite being the first point of contact with the ship's crew.

According to Mr. Jakob Friis Sorenson, Managing Director, APM Terminals Pipavav, “The past months have been a testing time for us at the port, but I am pleased to say that we have sailed through the challenging winds and were operational 24/7. The smooth operations would not have been possible without the support from our external stake holders such as Customs, Railways, Container Train Operators, transporters & Container Freight Stations. We are grateful to our customers for their trust in our operations.”

During these challenging times, the company took immediate and proactive measures to ensure safety as well as continued services. The port adopted standard crisis protocol at both the international and local levels as per the various relevant guidelines of Government. of India, Government of Gujarat and other statutory bodies & administration.

In addition to providing a safe working environment for its colleagues and stakeholders, the Port also reached out to communities in and around the Port to provide necessary support to battle the COVID-19 pandemic.

about by the issues faced at the overland routes through Petrapole.

"This is an additional connection over and above the existing vessels, increasing the capacity of serving this trade lane through the sea route," a senior official of SMP said. Vinit Kumar, Chairman, SMP, Kolkata said another

similar service too is scheduled to start from Kolkata Dock to Chattogram. The vessel M.V Xpress Godavari operated

by Xpress Feeders shall commence the voyage to Chattogram Port in the second week of July. Kumar along with S Balaji Arunkumar, Deputy Chairman of SMP inaugurated the service.

Based in Gothenburg, Sweden, KGH is a well-known and respected partner to a wide range of authorities, providing valuable consulting and advice, most recently in the connection with Brexit, as advisors to various authorities in the EU and the UK. KGH has in the past years achieved double-digit annual growth resulting in a revenue of approximately SEK 890m in 2019 (USD 95.5m), recurring EBITDA of approximately SEK 160m (USD 17.2) and an EBITDA margin of approximately 18 percent. KGH has 775 employees and a yearly business of 1.98m clearances.

success our teams have achieved, and at the same time play a key role in a combined entity providing a range of different services within the transportation and logistics industry.

The acquisition of KGH makes Maersk an attractive partner for its customers operating in individual countries, as well as for those looking to combine several geographies under one service provider. With the acquisition of KGH, Maersk will have a solid platform for growth in customs services in Europe with own setups operating in 22

European countries with a total of 2.38m clearances on a yearly basis, 960 specialised employees and a combined turnover of SEK 1.02B (USD 109.4m).

Maersk will acquire KGH for a consideration of SEK 2.6B (USD 279.0m) on a cash and debt free basis equivalent to a multiple of 16.3x 2019 EBITDA before synergies, excluding an earn-out component contingent on future Brexit performance. When ramped up, annual EBITDA synergies from the combination are expected to amount to approximately SEK 50m-75m (USD 5.4m-USD 8.0m).

The closing of the acquisition is subject to customar y regulator y approvals. Until then, Maersk and KGH remain two separate companies and thus will do their business as usual.

Major Ports volumes at 49 mt in June, 8% rise month-on-month MUMBAI: Volumes handled at major ports in the country in June climbed from a month earlier even after the clearing of consignments imported

from China was delayed, according to a report by IDFC Securities.

Major Indian ports recorded volumes of 49 mt in June, an 8% increase

month-on-month (12% if adjusted for number of days) and a decline of 14% year-on-year. Volumes fell 21% in April and 23% in May from a year earlier.

GIFT SEZ provides approval to 28 entities GANDHINAGAR: Around 28 entities bagged approval for setting up units in the Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT City)'s SEZ virtually, as part of a new approval process was created for unit approval in special economic zone (SEZ) in time of Covid-19.

GIFT city, which is located between Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar, has been touted as the template for all the other Smart Cities announced by the government.

The Development Commissioner of GIFT SEZ along with GIFT SEZ authorities met up with all the members

of unit approval committee via teleconference. All the application documents and the details were submitted online by the units, with the entire agenda prepared and circulated online to all the committee members.

The expected employment generation by these entities in 2-3 years time is around 2000 jobs, a statement from GIFT SEZ confirmed.

To facilitate single window clearance, the government established the International Financial Services Centres Authority to regulate all financial services in International Financial Ser vices

Centres (IFSCs) in Gandhinagar.

Currently, banking, capital markets and insurance sectors in IFSC are regulated by multiple regulators -- the RBI, Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi), and Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI).

The central government through a notification appointed April 27, 2020 as the date of the establishment of the International Financial Services Centres Authority and the head office of that authority should be at Gandhinagar, Gujarat.

Allcargo Logistics partners with Tamil Nadu based Foundation to provide essential supplies to communities affected by COVID-19 The RAHAT project was initiated to reach out to over 750 members in Chennai’s rural villages MUMBAI: Avashya Foundation, the CSR arm of Allcargo Logistics, one of India’s largest integrated logistics s e r v i c e s p r o v i d e r, p a r t n e r e d w i t h Foundation of His Sacred Majesty (FHSM) in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. Together the activity was executed to reach out to 250 underprivileged families comprising over 750 members affected by the covid-19 induced lockdown. Grocery kits comprising rice, dal, sugar, salt and other essentials like vegetables were distributed to marginalized communities and families residing in slums as part of the RAHAT project.

The 250 families belonged to the socially and economically backward communities in Molachur village in TindivanamTaluk, NarikuravrKudiiruppu in Sunammeduvillag and Chengalpattu district along with families of the other communities living near Jamaat of Mount Road Chennai in Tamil Nadu.

“The marginalized sections of the population have been the most vulnerable to covid-19 which has been unrelenting in its spread and scale. The adverse economic impact of the pandemic holds the potential the push a large number of families into a spiral of debt and poverty.

As socially responsible members of the

society, we need to reach out to the economically disadvantaged communities and help them return to a life of dignity and nor malcy,” stated Mrs Arathi Shetty, Non-Executive Director, Avashya Foundation, Avashya Fo u n d a t i o n , C S R arm of Allcargo Logistics.

“Most of the beneficiaries included disabled persons, pregnant women, widows, elderly and children. DCSA Publishes Standards for Digital Exchange of Operational Vessel Schedules AMSTERDAM: The Digital Container Shipping Association (DCSA), a neutral, nonprofit group established to further digitalisation of container shipping technology standards, in conjunction with its nine member carriers, today published standards for the exchange of operational vessel schedules (OVS). The standards can be implemented by vessel operators, as well as their Vessel Sharing Agreement (VSA) partners and operational service providers, to enable automatic sharing of schedule information. This is one of many initiatives to b e put forth by DCSA to acce lerate digitalisation through a unified industry effort.

The DCSA Standard for Operational Vessel Schedules can be freely downloaded from the DCSA website. With the new standards in place, carriers can digitally publish their schedules, and their partners and operational service providers can subscribe to the carrier’s feed to automatically receive updates, or retrieve updates as needed. This will provide complete vessel schedule transparency, increasing efficiency and enabling better planning and

optimisation of shipping activities.

The DCSA OVS standard publication comprises a set of documents: • the DCSA Industry Blueprint 2.0 with OVS schedule definitions and an updated glossary of terms • the DCSA Information Model 2.0 • DCSA Data Interface Standards for OVS 1.0 and associated Reading Guides In addition to these documents, DCSA has published OVS API definitions on the SwaggerHub open source API development platform, where future enhancements will also be published. AP Govt initiates measures to build 3 Ports, 7 Shipping Harbours HYDERABAD: Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy who had earlier taken the decision for setting up of three major ports and seven shipping harbours in the state, has now ordered for taking all steps for the development, said State IT and Industr y Minister Mek apati Goutham Reddy on Saturday, July 4.

The State government released funds for the construction of Ramayapatnam port in Prakasam district, the minister said.

Goutham Reddy along with irrigation minister P Anil Kumar Yadav visited Prakasam district’s Gudluru and Ulavapadu mandals on Saturday and

reviewed the land requirement for the construction of the port.

The Ministers along with Prakasam district collector C Bhaskar examined the lands and the maps of lands in the villages of Ravuru and Chevuru in the district.

Speaking on the occasion, Goutham Reddy said: • The State decided to acquire a total of 5,200 acres of land, out of which 3,200 acres will be used for port construction and rest 2,000 acres for industrial establishment.

• Several companies from Japan and the Netherlands have come forward to build the Ramayapatnam port.

• The companies assured that they will develop the area at the level of Mumbai and Delhi if some land is allocated in addition to port construction land.

• Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) will be prepared soon and tenders will be called by August 15.

• Kandukur MLA Manugantu Mahidhar Reddy advised the Minister to issue a notification for the acquisition of 5,200 acres of land at one time.

• Goutham Reddy asked the collector to prepare a plan for one-time acquisition of 5,200 acres of land.

Tamil Nadu Govt. opens exclusive cell to facilitate Exports C H E N N A I : T h e Ta m i l N a d u government has established an exclusive cell to facilitate exports, Neeraj Mittal, MD and Chief Executive Officer, GUIDANCE, said.

At a virtual conference organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) on ‘Explore Export 2020’, he said GUIDANCE has now export promotion as a mandate with dedicated resources. The cell would answer questions from exporters, match trade partners, incentivise exporters and address export issues. The government had taken sector-specific measures to promote exports, he said.

VOC Port could be a major attraction for investors to establish industries in southern districts. The port, which has well-trained personnel and state-of-theart gadgets, could handle large volumes of cargo. It has a plenty of land for industrial development, he said, inviting entrepreneurs to set up shop here.

CII Tamil Nadu Chairman Hari K. Thiagarajan said exporters should utilise government schemes, especially those under ‘Make in India’. Exporters from this region should aim not only for job creation but also a higher share in India’s exports on a higher gross value. By producing higher volumes, local consumption could improve and products would be visible in

global markets, he said.

Since the lockdown due to COVID-19, the exports had declined to 35% between March and May, but the situation was promising from mid-June, said Dinesh Dua, CII (North India) and chairman, Pharmexcil. The next three months looked positive for exports as the industry, especially the health sector, had made face masks and personal protective equipment t o t a c k l e t h e C OV I D - 1 9 p a n d e m i c worldwide.

Event chairman V. Krishna Shankar said the objective of the conference was to prompt exporters to achieve a 5% share in world merchandise trade and services trade by 2025.

Sugar exporters eye deals with China NEW DELHI: Sugar traders are eyeing export deals with China, which they say are viable despite customs duty of 50%, but are afraid that the border tensions between India and China may cast a shadow on the trade.

“We can export 300,000 tonnes of sugar to China in next two to three months,” said Praful Vithalani, chairman, All India Sugar Trade Association. India will be

Vithalani said there might be a shortterm delay in business dealings, but in the long term exporters see China as a major market for Indian sugar.

An official of a global trading company based out of Mumbai said considering the prevailing price of sugar in China at $730 a tonne, there was a good opportunity of Indian exporters.

“We are sceptical on whether to export at this stage,” the person said on condition of anonymity. “There is risk of undue scrutiny at destination ports, leading to delays and hold-ups.”

Southern Railway sets up biz unit to boost freight traffic CHENNAI: A business development unit (BDU) has been set up here by the Southern Railway to strengthen its ties with trade and industry besides an increase in freight traffic. As per the directions of the Railway Board, the Southern Railway on Sunday said BDUs were established at zonal and divisionallevels of the railways with focus on bringing it closer to industry and trade.

The move would also give an

opportunity to increase the share of railways in transportation of non-bulk goods, among others, a press release said.

A BDU would comprise a chief freight transportation manager and three members who would initiate steps to attract new streams of traffic by interacting with industry and also explore the possibility of attracting additional freight traffic, the release said.

Like the BDU in Chennai, five such

units were being planned in other divisions of the Southern Railway, it said. Southern Railway serves six ports and several cement plants apart from major thermal power stations, steel plants and industries.

The railways has introduced a slew of policy initiatives to attract rail freight traffic and it was committed to work with the industry in formulating policies that can be more tailored to suit specific industry needs, the release said.

Railways in talks with states to bring back Dedicated Freight Corridor workers; 7000 return to worksites NEW DELHI: The Railways is in talks with state governments to get labourers back at worksites of its largest infrastructure project, the Dedicated Freight Corridor, after its workforce reduced to 15,000 from 40,000 due to the COVID-19 lockdown.

The Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation Limited (DFCCIL), the implementing agency of the project, has till now managed to get back 7,000 labourers, taking the number of

workers at sites to 22,000 from 15,000.

It brought them back by arranging buses and getting bulk bookings on trains.

To facilitate their movement, the agency also submitted letters to district administration and arranged for e-passes for contractors.

Of the 7,000 labourers, who have returned, around 3,250 are highly skilled workers needed for technical works like electrification, mast casting, track works, operating high-end machines, which cannot

be done by local workers, officials said.

"Before the (COVID-19) lockdown we had around 40,000 workers and within 15 days of the Shramik Special trains starting, we were reduced to around 15,000 workers. We are now facilitating the return of around 20,000 more on special trains through bulk bookings or by buses.

We now have around 22,000 workers at our sites, but we need to get the full workforce back," DFCCIL managing director Anurag Sachan told .
