CBIC launches two-factor authentication for all e-way bill, e-invoice NEW DELHI: The Central Board of I n d i r e c t Ta x e s a n d Customs (CBIC) has enabled two-factor authentication for all e-waybill and e-invoice systems to further enhance the security of the goods and services tax systems. The feature was enabled on December 1 and was rolled out on Monday, 4th December. Currently the pilot rollout has been done for a state of Haryana and after seamless operation of the same in the state, it is being rolled out for Punjab, Chandigarh, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand and Delhi taxpayers in the first phase. In the second phase, it will be rolled out across the country.
“ C u r r e n t l y, 2 FA ( t w o f a c t o r authentication) will be rolled out for Punjab, Chandigarh, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan and Delhi in the first phase. In the second phase, it is planned to be rolled out to all states across India,” the GST network (GSTN), the technology provider for goods and services tax, said in an advisory. What is two factor authentication? The 2-Factor authentication is an additional security system to protect the GST account of taxpayers from any misuse in addition to the username and password for logging in to the system. This is linked with the registered mobile number of the taxpayer and a O n e T i m e Pa s s w o r d ( O T P ) i s generated and sent to the mobile
number. The OTP can be sent to a registered mobile number as SMS or through Sandes app, which is a messaging app provided by the government so that taxpayers can send and receive messages. Apart from that the taxpayers can use the ‘NIC-GST-Shield’ app, which is a mobile app provided by e-wayBill or e-Invoice System, so that OTP can be generated by using the app. The centre has made the twofactor authentication mandatory for all GST taxpayers who have an annual Aggregate Turnover of Rs 100 crores and above from July 15. Later the threshold was reduced to Rs 20 crore. Now it will be mandatory for all the taxpayers which are registered under GST.

Shipbuilding orders worth Rs 6,800 crore received in last four years: Sarbananda Sonowal NEW DELHI: Domestic shipyards have received orders with Rs 6,800 crore in the last four years for 88 vessels. These orders have been made possible because of the Shipbuilding Financial Assistance Policy (SBFAP). Responding to queries in the Rajya Sabha, Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal said that India’s 31 Shipyards have delivered 69 vessels worth Rs 1,145 crore to domestic and international ship owners during this period. Financial assistance of Rs 193 crore. The scheme offers financial
assistance to Indian Shipyards for shipbuilding contracts signed between April 1, 2016 and March 31, 2026 with rate of financial assistance starting from 20% in 2016 and diminishing to 11% in 2026. The scheme was introduced to make India made ships competitive with those manufactured in other countries. In May this year, guidelines for the scheme were amended to include wind farm installation vessels and construction of sophisticated dredgers as specialized vessels which are eligible to get higher financial assistance. The amendments also
allowed including financial assistance of 30% for vessels where main propulsion is achieved by means of green fuels such as Methanol, Ammonia or Hydrogen fuel cells. Another set of changes enabled a 20% financial assistance for vessels with electric propulsion or vessels fitted with hybrid propulsion system. The scheme was already supporting Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) and Liquefied Petroleum Gas carrying vessels. Chemical Tankers, floating or submersible drilling or production platforms were also getting subsidies.
India to be 3rd Largest Global Economy by 2030, says S&P Global Ratings BENGALURU: India will remain the fastest-growing major economy for at least the next three years, setting it on course to become the world's third-largest economy by 2030, S&P Global Ratings said in a report. S&P expects India, currently the world's fifth-largest economy, to grow at 6.4% this fiscal and estimates growth will pick up to 7% by fiscal 2027. In contrast, it expects China's growth to slow to 4.6% by 2026 from an estimated 5.4% this year. India's gross domestic product (GDP) grew a bigger-than-expected 7.6% in the second quarter of fiscal
2024, data showed last week, which prompted several brokerages to raise their full-year estimate. However, S&P, which had raised its forecast even before the latest data, said India's growth will depend on its successful transition to a manufacturing-dominated economy from a services-dominated one. "A paramount test will be whether India can become the next big global manufacturing hub, an immense opportunity," S&P said in its Global Credit Outlook 2024 report, dated Dec. 4. While Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government has been driving domestic manufacturing thorugh the
"Make in India" campaign and production-linked incentives (PLIs), the share of manufacturing is still roughly 18% of GDP. In contrast, services account for over half of India's GDP. S&P said that developing a strong logistics framework is key to becoming a manufacturing hub and that India also needs to "upskill" its workers and increase female participation in the workforce to realize its "demographic dividend." India has one of the youngest working populations in the world, with nearly 53% of its citizens under the age of 30.

India and Oman begin talks on Free Trade Pact NEW DELHI: India's exports to Oman could soon get duty concessions with the two sides having begun talks for a free trade agreement. Mineral fuels, inorganic chemicals, compounds of precious metals and iron and steel are India's top exports to Oman while oil, fertilisers and plastics are the top imports. Officials said that the negotiations will be fast tracked and the pact could be on similar lines as the one with the UAE. India's exports to Oman in AprilSeptember FY24 were $2 billion and
imports were $2.1 billion. "Discussions have started and the a g r e e m e n t w o u l d b e a comprehensive one," said an official. The government has identified petroleum products, gems and jeweller y, engineering products, pharmaceuticals, cement and ceramic products, ready made textiles, and footwear as some goods with scope for more trade with Oman. India could also push for fast tracking the approval for Indian pharma products that are already registered by
the US Food and Drug Administration (USFDA), UK drug regulator MHRA and European Medicines Agency, similar to a provision in its trade pact with the UAE. Both Oman and the UAE are part of the Gulf Cooperation Council with which India aims to ink a trade pact. Besides duty concessions, the commerce and industry ministry is also analysing non-tariff barriers and product-specific rules as part of the India-Oman Comprehensive Economic Pa r t n e r s h i p A g r e e m e n t ( C E PA ) negotiations.

The city has close to 10 mn. sq. ft. of Grade A logistics developments in NH-2, NH-6, and Taratala regions. “Our observation of the Industrial & L o g i s t i c s s e c t o r i n Ko l k a t a recording a 5-year high supply in 2023 with a notable absorption underscores the sector’s resilience and dynamism. The anticipated absorption of 3.5 million sq. ft. in CY 2023 indicates a positive outlook for leasing activities, suggesting a potential surge in demand for commercial spaces”, he said.
The I&L growth in the city has been primarily in the micro-markets of NH – 2 & NH – 6 due to strategic positioning along the National Highway, signifying the likelihood of further growth in both industrial and commercial activities, especially in Dankuni and Singur. Meanwhile, NH – 6 emerges as a multifaceted micro-market, encompassing industrial zones such as Dhulagarh and evolving areas such as Uluberia, reflecting a combination of industrial and residential development. In the Taratala micro-market, locations such as Taratala Road, Hyde Road going upto Maheshtala, there is a distinctive mix of industrial and commercial activities, indicating the potential for growth and progress in these areas.

Gujarat to host pre-vibrant event ‘Leveraging Logistic Strength of Gujarat for Agro & Food Processing Sector’ Today GANDHINAGAR : As a precursor to the 10th Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit 2024, a pre-Vibrant Seminar on ‘Leveraging Logistic Strength of Gujarat for Agro & Food Processing Sector’ is scheduled to be held on Thursday, 7th December at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Auditorium, AMUL in Anand. This is organized by Agriculture, Farmers Welfare and Co-operation Department of Gujarat. The event will serve as a platform for the government and the private sector to collaborate and discuss the infrastructural and logistical strengths of the state. These strengths have contributed to the establishment of more than 30,000 food processing units and have expanded the scope of value addition to surplus produce, thanks to improved connectivity for exports. The event will take place in association withAmul Auditorium in Anand. The summit will consist of three sessions featuring panelists from both the industry and academia, covering the following topics: 1) Vibrant Gujarat: Where Growth is Natural, 2) Food Supply Chain Management for ‘One Earth, One Family, One Future’ and 3) Gujarat
Fortifying Global Food Platter with Greens, White, and Blue The panel discussions will encompass diverse topics, ranging from incubation support for new startups, clustercentric exports, to blockchain for food supply chain management. Distinguished speakers from organizations such as NDDB, Rasna, UPL, IBM Consulting, Tata Soulful, APEDA, II, Nedspice India, and Harisons Ventures will share their insights. The summit anticipates the participation of over 1500 attendees from across the country, representing the industry, academia, and Government.
CWC : Rs 132-cr facelift on cards for 4 warehouses in Kerala KOCHI: Four of the 54 locations selected for Central Warehousing Corporation (CWC) facilities in the country are in Kerala. The cumulative warehousing development potential across the four locations – two in Ernakulam and one each in Thrissur and Kozhikode — is estimated to be around 13.5 acres, against the total identified land of nearly 20.76 acres. The four warehouses are expected to cost Rs 132.07 crore. CWC is monetising and modernising its warehouses across the country under the National Monetisation Plan. This will be carried out through public-private partnership (PPP) mode under the design, build, finance, operate, and transfer (DBFOT) model for a concession period of 45 years. “Asset modernisation and monetisation which began with just eight locations and a straightforward rental process has now evolved into a comprehensive initiative covering 54 land parcels, and may be more shortly. Our objective extends beyond modernisation and value creation; we are committed to supporting the nation’s
vision of reducing logistics costs. Modernised infrastructure and operational efficiency directly translate into cost savings for warehousing assets, which in turn would help the economy at large,” said Mr. Amit Kumar Singh, Managing Director, CWC. Real estate consultant Knight Frank India has been appointed as knowledge partner to market the 54 land parcels. The development of the 54 locations, covering a total of 572 acres, is expected to cost around Rs 2,152 crore. The land parcels range from five to 30 acres. “Warehousing assets have become an attractive investment avenue for large developers across the country. The land parcels of the CWC are available at strategic locations, which provide effective price viability owing to its attribution to the asset class which is otherwise available at a premium price value. The CWC land parcels unlock a great opportunity for developers to further expand their warehousing portfolio across geographies in the country ,” said Gulam Zia, Senior E x e c u t i v e D i r e c t o r – r e s e a r c h , a d v i s o r y, infrastructure, and valuation, Knight Frank India.
US-based Panattoni to invest Rs 110 cr for first warehousing park in India BENGALURU: US-based Panattoni, a global leader in industrial and logistics real estate development, will invest Rs 110 crore by March 2025 to develop a warehouse park in Delhi-NCR, its first project in the Indian market. In July last year, Panattoni announced its foray into India and said the company would invest USD 200 million to develop four industrial and logistics parks as it seeks to tap the growing demand for warehousing spaces across major cities. On Tuesday, the company announced its inaugural project in India with the Phase 1 launch of ‘Panattoni Park NH71’ in Delhi-NCR. “We have acquired 17-acre land to develop our first
project in Delhi-NCR. The construction work will start in the first quarter of the next calendar year. It will take a year to complete the project,” Panattoni India Managing Director Mr. Sandeep Chanda said. The total cost to develop 3.6 lakh square feet of area would be around Rs 110 crore, he said, adding that the company has tied up with some institutional investors to meet the cost. “Panattoni views India as a critical node for its global business and plans to rapidly expand in the country in the coming years,” Chanda said. He said the company is looking for more land in major cities.

DP World targets 60% Renewable Power at Indian Terminals by 2026 • Achieving the renewable target across all its terminals in India represents the company's focused and motivated efforts to meet the commitment set by the Maritime India Vision 2030. • DP World initiates open access sourcing of green power at Nhava Sheva Terminals • Accelerated electrification and green energy transition contributes to its global goalof net zero emissions by 2050
MU MBAI: DP Wo rld has anno unce d a ne w sustainability target in India, aiming for at least 60% of the energy required at its terminal operations to come from renewable power sources by 2026. Inspired by the M a r i t i m e Vi s i o n 2 0 3 0 , D P Wo r l d ’ s d e d i c a t e d sustainability efforts mirror the Indian government's commitment towards achieving 60% green power sourcing for the maritime sector by 2030. To meet the target, DP World aims to switch all fossil fuel powered equipment and vehicles at its terminal operations in India to electric power. It has already initiated open access sourcing of green power at its two terminals in Nhava Sheva (NSIGT and NSICT) which will help replace about 75% of conventional electricity needs with green power, leading to about 50% reduction in carbon emissions at the facilities. Rizwan Soomar, CEO and Managing Director for Middle East, North Africa and India Subcontinent at DP World, said, “We are deeply committed to transforming our terminal operations to make trade greener and more efficient. As we progress on the path to meet 60% of power requirements at all our terminals from green sources by 2026, we will continue to be inspired by the tenets of the Maritime India Vision 2030 and will work towards fulfilling the national climate agenda to create shared value for our business and society. We plan to replicate the open access green power sourcing for all our other portfolio assets across India.” Across its terminals in India, DP World is already converting its fleet of diesel-powered rubber tyred gantry cranes (RTGs) to electric and setting up solar power installations. The company recently commissioned six
new e-RTGS at Mundra International Container Terminal (MICT) in Gujarat and four new e-RTGs at the International Container Transhipment Terminal (ICTT) in Cochin, Kerala. The move towards 100% electrification of the existing fleet of RTGs will significantly help reduce the carbon footprint of cargo transiting through the terminals giving customers a competitive edge on sustainability in their supply chain. Renewable energy is also being integrated into the design of terminals. DP World’s new greenfield terminal at Tuna-Tekra in Gujarat is aiming to be 100% compliant with the government’s Green Ports guidelines to make it sustainable and resilient for the future. DP World will also continue to explore green power purchase agreements (PPAs), additional rooftop solar installations and low-carbon technology solutions across its entire portfolio in India. Globally, DP World is committed to achieving carbon neutrality by 2040 and net zero carbon emissions by 2050, with an intermediate target of 28% reduction of carbon footprint by 2030. DP World is a “Principal Pathway Partner” for the UN Climate Conference (COP28) currently being hosted in Dubai, where it is showcasing how technology and nature-based solutions to mitigate and build resilience against climate change while ensuring the continued flow of trade around the world. Additionally, it is working alongside partners to advocate for more ambitious climate action by using its scale and reach as a convenor for change, bringing together broader industry stakeholders to align on meaningful long-term solutions to support the global climate agenda.
