Mansukh Mandaviya inaugurates Oxygen Plant, Fireghting System at Deendayal Port Trust Cont’d. from Pg. 3 The plant will ensure 24×7 oxygen supply to the hospital and will be beneficial for the DPT staff and people in the locality, it added. Speaking on the occasion, Shri Mandaviya appreciated the port team and all stakeholders for completing the work of the oxygen plant in just 20 days. Appreciating the efforts done by all Ports in the pandemic, Shri Mandaviya said ports are contributing to fighting against COVID-19 by facilitating oxygen supply, creating a green channel for cargoes related to COVID-19 materials, and waiving the port charges. He said ports will continue to provide better facilities to the people living in the surrounding areas. Deendayal Port is the first port amongst all major ports to install & commission such an oxygen generation unit in this pandemic scenario. The installed oxygen generator unit is of having a capacity 20 cu.m./ hr., i.e., 20,000 litres/hr. at 5-6 bar pressure, which is equivalent to approx. 03 nos. jumbo cylinders per hour, which can be utilized for the treatment of COVID as well as other patients of DPT staffs, their relatives and other people in the locality, at the Port hospital. The system will eliminate the hardship of frequent refilling the cylinders for treatment of patients which is a very cumbersome process and will ensure smooth and continuous oxygen supply to the hospital. The Oxygen Unit generates oxygen gas by the continuous process of pressures wing adsorption methods through imported Molecular oxygen sieves in a pressurized state in the unit and finally delivers oxygen of minimum 93% purity. The Medical oxygen copper piping network is installed for the distribution of medical oxygen gas connects to each bed oxygen-fitting of all wards in the hospital viz., Male ward, Female
ward, Children ward, Maternity ward, Special rooms, proposed ICU room, VIP rooms, Operation theatre, Isolation ward, etc. The network pipeline consists of heavy copper seamless pipes of various sizes to assure uniform oxygen pressure distribution throughout the network with oxygen regulators, flow meter and control valves to 78 bed-points of the mentioned wards in the hospital. The pipeline network is equipped with Low oxygen pressure alarm system to alert the hospital well before any undue oxygen supply malfunction, leakage etc. An Oxygen cylinder bank, as an alternate source for oxygen supply to the hospital, is also installed near the Oxygen Generation Unit, with an ‘Automatic Oxygen-source Changeover system’ for changing-over to the cylinder bank source in case of any failure of the oxygen generation unit, power failure and vice-versa. Modern Firefighting System is installed at Port Colony Hospital with standard features of Fire Alarm system, Smoke detection system & Fire Sprinkler system in the wards and rooms of the hospital, Auto Start flow switch panel, Fire Extinguishers etc. The Firefighting system is having a pump capacity of 650 litres per minute (lpm) and consists of a Main pump, jockey pump, heavy-duty piping of various sizes throughout the hospital premises for assuring sufficient flow & pressure, safety signages etc. Deendayal Port is the first port among all major ports to install and commission such an oxygen generation unit in this pandemic scenario, according to the statement. The modern firefighting system is installed at the Port Colony Hospital with standard features of fire alarm system, smoke detection system and fire sprinkler system in the wards and rooms of the hospital, auto start flow switch panel, fire extinguishers etc, it added.
APM Terminals Pipavav resumes Container Operations; berths Transworld Group’s Vessel SSL Brahmaputra • The container operations were suspended at the Port following cyclone ‘Tauktae’ and the power outage caused thereof • Rail container operations were commenced from May 22; while fertilizer rake loading started from May 25 • Partial non-container operations resumed from May 26 onwards and dry cargo vessel began operations from May 29 despite power outage
Cont’d. from Pg. 3 The Port had resumed other landside operations from May 22 onwards, while marine side operations waited following landfall of extremely severe cyclone ‘Tauktae’. The power and communication network were severely impacted since the cyclone hit the Port on May 18. To ensure that customers are not impacted, the Port immediately arranged for alternate power source to commence the operation at the earliest. Relentless efforts by teams on ground and teams supporting remotely resulted in setting up mobile power source while taking utmost precautions in terms of safety of people and equipment. On the landside operations, Rail container operations were resumed from May 22 followed by fertilizer rake loading that began from May 25 onwards. Partial non-container operations resumed with effect from May 26 and dry cargo vessels started from May 29 onwards. The gate operations for export and import dry containers resumed in a controlled manner while live reefer is permitted without any restrictions. Although operations have resumed, the Port is still not on the Public utility power grid (GETCO) and is expected to recover steadily over the coming weeks. Repairs are being done in anticipation of the monsoon season and complete port recovery will take up to 3 months. Mr. Jakob Friis Sorenson, MD, APM Terminals Pipavav said, “We are pleased to resume our marine operations from today with the berthing of SSL Brahmaputra. We are committed to delivering quality service to our customers and even through such unprecedented challenges, we are making every possible effort to ensure that our customers have least impact on their
operations. Our proactive preparations ensured that we had minimal impact and all our employees remained safe during and after the cyclone. We are grateful to our customers and stakeholders for their continued cooperation and patience. We are geared up to welcome vessels, trains and trucks at our port with full enthusiasm.”

APSEZ witnesses robust growth despite pandemic blues Adani Ports logs 79% yoy rise in cargo volumes to 25.65MT MUMBAI : The outbreak of Covid-19 has halted major operations across the Indian port industry. However, despite the ongoing pandemic, Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone recorded over 247 million tonnes of cargo handling in FY21 ending March 31, 2021, which is about 11 per cent more than that of the last financial year. The Group’s port revenues surged by around 30 per cent on a year-on-year basis, while its overall share of India’s port market increased to 25 per cent. In May 2021, the company handled a cargo volume of 25.65 MMT thus registering a growth of 79% on a Year-on-Year basis. Under the container segment, the company handled container volume of 0.72 MN TEU’s thus registering a growth of 67 % on Year Year basis. Meanwhile, Mundra port handled container volume of 0.56 MN TEU’s thus registering a growth of 61% on Year-on-Year basis. Cargo throughput has surged at most of the ports operated by Adani Group that stretch from Goa, Gujarat, Chennai to Odisha and beyond. Currently, the Adani Group operates 12 port projects across India, including its minor share at MPT Goa , and major ports such as Mundra, Dhamra and Krishnapatnam. Mundra, the group’s flagship port, recently overtook the state-run JNPT as the country’s biggest container port, after handling over 5.66 million TEU. With this, it has now entered
t h e l i s t o f t h e Wo r l d ’ s t o p 3 0 C o n t a i n e r Po r t s . The strong performance of the Mundra port can partly be attributed to the measures that APSEZ has been taking amid Covid-19. C a p t . S a n d e e p M e h t a , Pr e s i d e n t o f B u s i n e s s Development at Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone (APSEZ), said, “We have concentrated on two things at all our ports – safety of our staff, and continuity of our business.” Owing to this, there has been no adverse effect on the movement of vessels and cargo at Mundra as well as other ports that the group operates. According to Karan Adani, CEO, APSEZ, the customercentric approach has been instrumental in helping the company yield good results. He also added that the amendments in the General Purpose Wagon Investment Scheme of Indian railways has opened new doors of opportunities for APSEZ. For instance, it has been able to serve customers not only from the port, but the mining sector as well. In addition to this, the company has also received contracts for the transportation of raw materials from mines. Adani Group operates a number of port projects – from Goa, Gujarat, Chennai, to Odisha and more. While Mundra is the flagship port of APSEZ, cargo handling at other ports has been equally instrumental in the surge of the company’s net profit and revenue.

Exports jump 67 pc to $32.21 billion in May; trade deficit at $6.32 billion NEW DELHI: Exports in May last year stood at USD 19.24 billion and in May 2019 it was at USD 29.85 billion, the Commerce Ministry's preliminary data showed. Exports during Apr-May this year jumped to USD 62.84 billion, as against USD 29.6 billion in the same period last year. India’s exports grew by 67.39 per cent to USD 32.21 billion in May driven by healthy growth in sectors such as engineering, petroleum products and gems and jewellery, even as trade deficit widened to USD 6.32 billion, according to Government data released recently. Exports in May last year stood at USD 19.24 billion and in May 2019 it was at USD 29.85 billion, the Commerce Ministry’s preliminary data showed. Imports in May rose by 68.54 per cent to USD 38.53 billion, from USD 22.86 billion in May 2020. In May 2019, imports stood at USD 46.68 billion. “India is thus a net importer in May 2021 with a trade deficit of USD 6.32 billion,
an increase of 74.69 per cent over trade deficit USD 3.62 billion in May 2020 and reduction by 62.49 per cent over trade deficit USD 16.84 billion in May 2019,” the Ministry said. The Country’s merchandise exports in April had jumped nearly threefold to USD 30.63 billion, even as the trade deficit widened to USD 15.1 billion. Oil imports during May this year rose to USD 9.45 billion, as compared to USD 3.57 billion in May 2020. In May 2019, it stood at USD 12.59 billion. Exports during Apr-May this year have jumped to USD 62.84 billion, as against USD 29.6 billion in the same period last year. It was USD 55.88 billion in Apr-May 2019, the data showed. Imports during Apr-May 2021 was USD 84.25 billion, up from USD 39.98 billion in April-May 2020. In Apr-May 2019 it stood at USD 89.07 billion. In Apr-May 2021, oil imports aggregated at USD 20.32 billion, up from USD 8.24 billion in AprMay 2020. In Apr-May 2019 it was USD 24.16 billion.
Exports of engineering, petroleum products and gems and jewellery in May stood at USD 3 billion, USD 3.51 billion and USD 1.9 billion respectively. Commenting on the data, Trade Promotion Council of India (TPCI) Founder Chairman Mohit Singla said that the fall in the import of newsprint, transport equipment and iron and steel is a welcome trend towards selfreliance, as it shows that the government’s import substitution strategy has strongly worked for these sectors. The Engineering Export Promotion Council (EEPC) said that shipments in the sector saw a substantial year-onyear rise in May primarily on account of low-base due to strict lockdown in the same month last year. “We expect the order book of exporters to remain strong in the current financial year given the demand trend from key markets such as US, China and Europe,” it said in a statement.
Container ship collision at Port of Kaohsiung causes crane collapse TAIWAN: A massive crane at Taiwan's largest port has collapsed after it was hit by a Container Ship. One man was injured and two more were trapped in the wreckage after the dramatic incident on Thursday, 3rd June. This incident happened around 11 a.m. at the Container Yard of Yang Ming Marine Transport Corporation, at Pier 70 of the Port of Kaohsiung. The crane was str uck after the Durban, a 86,679-gross-tonnage container ship owned by Orient Overseas Container Line that was attempting to dock at a nearby pier, sideswiped Yang Ming's
32,720-gross-tonnage ship Yongyang, which was docked at Pier 70. Dock workers were seen running away as a stack of shipping containers toppled after the collapse of the crane—which reportedly caused a second crane to go down. A 58-year-old dock worker, suffered a cut on his right arm and abrasions on one foot. The two men who were trapped inside the collapsed crane, a 33-year- old engineer and a 31-year old engineer were rescued from the wreckage. Rescuers used a crane spanning around 197 feet (60 meters) to reach the
men and remove them from the wreckage. With 97 docks and a channel lane of around 11.1 miles (18 kilometers), the Port of Kaohsiung is the world's fourth largest Container Port.

Kandla SEZ has been officially declared by The Indian Green Building Council as the First Green Industrial City of India GANDHIDHAM: The Kandla Special Econo mic Z o ne is India’s first Free Tr a d e Z o n e l a t e r converted into an SEZ which is situated in the arid region of Kutch in Gujarat. This region is characterized by scanty and intermittent rainfall. The land and water exhibit high salinity which is a major challenge towards enhancing greenery in this region. The SEZ covers an expanse of 100 acres and is the largest in terms of area among all SEZs developed and promoted by the Central Government. Besides being the largest in terms of area the SEZ provides employment to over 28,000 persons in Kutch. The idea of making the SEZ green germinated on the eve of the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev on 24th November, 2019 wherein the KASEZ Administration took a pledge to plant 1 million (10 lakh) trees in KASEZ along with other Private SEZs in Gujarat. This idea of Green SEZ was later adopted as part of the “Azadi ka Amrut Mahotsav” i.e. the year-long celebrations marking the 75th year of India’s independence by the Ministry of Commerce, Govt. of India. The idea of this movement was to make the SEZs green and at the same time ensuring maximum public participation with minimum expenditure. In view of the same many novel mechanisms for enhancing greenery were adopted such as Vrikshdan (tree-donation) by units, participation by voluntary organisations such as the Round Table, Eco Sikh Foundation etc. The famed Miyawaki technique has been adopted for plantation to ensure maximum survival rate and symbiotic growth of trees. In this context, many Gardens/Vatika/Upvans named ‘Prakriti Upvan’, ‘Herbal Garden’, ‘Pushp Vatika’, ‘ Nakshatra Van’, ‘Amrit Vatika’, Nilgiri Upvan and Guru Nanak Sacred Forest have been developed. The tree count in KASEZ is nearing the 5 lakh mark distributed in the Processing as well as the Non-Processing Area. Apart from the planting of trees several other green initiatives have been either planned, completed or at various stages of implementation. For example, KASEZ has a rooftop Solar Power project of 1 MW capacity distributed over 22 rooftops. A Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) of 15 KLD is already operational in the Colony area. Further two STPs have been planned in the Processing Area. Non-Motorised Vehicles are planned for commuting inside the Zone for which enabling infrastructure in the form of a dedicated
Parking lot has been created and aesthetically designed Bicycle stands are being rolled out. The Development Commissioner and office staff have also started commuting by bicycles to encourage the persons connected with the Zone to start adopting green modes of transportation. Further, Rainwater harvesting, use of LED lights, planting of trees within the SEZ unit compound, use of Heat reflective paint etc. have been made mandatory for new building plan approvals. In this backdrop, KASEZ is proud to announce that the Zone has been recommended by The Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) for achieving the Green City standards required for the Platinum level of certification under the IGBC Green Cities Rating system (existing city category). The recommendation/certification not only takes the green cover enhancement into account but is a well-rounded certification based on six major socio-economic and environmental parameters: (i) Ecology and Preservation (ii) Citizen Welfare (iii) L and Use Planning (iv) City Transportation (v) Infrastructure Management and (vi) Innovation. With this certification, KASEZ will emerge as the first manufacturing-based SEZ to be declared as a Green City as well as the first Green City among existing SEZs. The green measures taken by KASEZ will have a positive spillover effect over the larger Gandhidham area and will lead to the improvement of the quality-of-life in this major business hub of Kutch. It is hoped that this certification will encourage other organisations in Gandhidham to aim for similar green standards to make living and doing business in Gandhidham a green experience.

A.P. Moller – Maersk to provide end-to-end carbon footprint visibility COPENHAGEN: The Emissions Dashboard – a new Maersk digital tool consolidates emissions data across all transport modes and carriers, enabling customers to set a baseline and uncover opportunities to optimize their emissions footprint A.P. Moller - Maersk is further assisting its customers with decarbonising their supply chains with the launch of an Emissions Dashboard. The Emissions Dashboard is an analytical data tool where customers are provided with carbon footprint measurements from their entire supply chain, giving a detailed emissions overview whether their products are transported via truck, train, plane, or vessel. With an emissions overview companies will be able to disclose emissions information to the public, covering all their container flows. “As our customers trust Maersk with a wider part of their supply chains, they also expect from us that we assist their climate actions through sustainable end-to-end offerings. An increasing share of our customers are setting ambitious sustainability goals, making emissions visibility critical in order to document performance towards these targets. The Emissions Dashboard will ensure full visibility for our customers to leverage on their jour neys towards decarbonised supply chains,” explains Vincent Clerc, CEO of Ocean & Logistics, A.P. Moller - Maersk. Designed as a one-stop-shop The Emissions Dashboard conforms to the GLEC methodology to calculate emissions and it handles emissions data from all carriers involved in the end-to-end supply chain – not only emissions data from Maersk. The analytics provides customers with the opportunity to get a detailed overview of their opportunities to lower
emissions from the transport of their products. At the same time the data creates a solid basis for logistics emissions reporting which can be used in corporate sustainability reports. Around half of Maersk’s 200 largest customers have set – or are in the process of setting – ambitious science-based or zero carbon targets for their supply chains. The Emissions Dashboard has been tested by 10 key customers of Maersk who have provided valuable and positive feedback. Among these are leading science-based agricultural technology company Syngenta. “Maersk and Syngenta have a joint vision to significantly reduce our carbon footprint for transport and logistics. We know that to succeed, we will need high-quality emissions data. The clear visuals and insights provided by the Emissions Dashboard offer an accurate picture of our emissions, guide our decision-making, and help us identify the most impactful changes we can make. Our collaboration with Maersk moves us towards a more sustainable future,” says Ai Ma Ong, Global Logistics Capacity Manager, Syngenta. The Emissions Dashboard is part of Maersk’s commitment to global sustainability – a commitment that is shared with an ever-increasing number of customers, consumers and investors alike The Emissions Dashboard is now available to all larger Maersk customers.
