GANDHIDHAM: DeendayalPort Authority, the state-run entity that runs the port located at Kandla in Gujarat, is making a second attempt to build a multipurpose cargo berth at Tuna Tekra with private funds of Rs1,719.22crore, afterscrappinganearliertender.

The Port authority recently floated global tenders to pre-qualify competent applicants who can subsequently bid fortheprojectasperRequestforProposal(RFP)Document.

AHMEDABAD: India’s largest private port operator Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone has set a new record on quarterly volumes, by handling more than 101 MMT of cargo in the first quarterofthefinancialyear2023-24.

The proposed facility will be used for handling multipurpose clean cargo, including food grains, fertilisers, coal, oresandminerals,steelcargoetc.

This project is proposed to be developed on Build, Operate and Transfer (BOT) basis by a private developer, to be selected through an international competitivebiddingprocess.

The project will have a concession period of 30 years and the implementation period for the project is reckoned as 30monthsfromthedateofawardofconcession.

The total estimated cost of Rs 2,250.64 crore which includes Rs 1,719.22 crore to be borne by the Concessionaire and Rs 531.42 crore to be borne by the Concessioning Authority(DeendayalPortAuthority).

The port authority that runs India’s biggest state-owned port by cargo handled and the nation’s second largest overall, floated a fresh tender on 30 June to build the multipurpose cargo (other than container/liquid) berth off Tuna Tekra outside Kandla Creek on public-private-partnership (PPP) modefor30years.

Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (APSEZ), JSW Infrastructure Ltd, Navayuga Engineering Co Ltd and QTerminals L.L.C had applied on the tender floated by Deendayal Port Authority last year. The port authority is seeking to build additional facilities to cater to the expected recovery in economic growth of the country, steadily growing dry cargo traffic and over-utilized dry cargo handling infrastructureatKandlaPort,aportofficialsaid.

Kandlaportcurrentlyhas16cargoberths.

The new berth will be built to handle ships of up to 100,000 DWTandupto15metresdraft.

Cont’d from Pg. 3 Growth was observed across most ports, along with all the three broad cargo segments of Adani Ports, with the Container segment witnessing a 19% growth YoY, the Liquids & Gas segment growing by 7% YoY, and Dry Bulk segment showing a growth of 7% on a YoY basis in Q1 Fy24.

The Adani giant informed on July 3, 2023, that the company handled approximately 32.8 MMT of cargo in the month of June 2023 alone, which included almost 1 MMT at its port in Haifa, Israel. Further, the company’s logistics volume also continued to record a significant jumpintheJunequarter,withtheyear-to-date(YTD)rail volumes surging by 18% YoY to 131,420 TEUs, and the GPWISvolumesgrowingbyasharp40%jumpat4.35MMT.

Hapag Lloyd ’s first LNG dual-fuel Megamax Containership sets sail

HAMBURG : Hapag-Lloyd’s rst dual-fuel LNG megamax containership, the 23,664 TEUs Berlin Express, began its first voyage on an interim route to the MiddleEast.

Hapag-Lloyd ordered in December 2020 six, 250,000 dwt, ultra large containerships to be built by Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering for a total $1 billion but the order was expanded in 2021 from sixto12containerships.

The new class has approximately 20% percent more capacity than Hapag Lloyd’s largest ships, the A 19 Class, had been built in 2015 and 2016 and were part of the acquisitionofUnitedArabShippingCo.(UASC).

Berlin Express is running till August to the Middle East beforeshiftingtotheNorthernEuroperoute.

The new class of ship has a capacity of 23,664 TEUs including 1,500 reefer plugs. They are 1,312 feet in length and operate with a crew of 25. The ships are being registeredinGermany.

MAN ME-GI main engines able to run on both conventional marine diesel as well as liquified natural gas. Hapag Lloyd joined the operators using LNG in June 2021 with the conversion of one of its existing ships to LNG. According to the company, the new ships are capable of a speed of up to 22 knots and the LNG system can operate the main engine as well asauxiliaryenginesandboilers.

“With the investment in these large container ships, we will not only be able to reduce our unit costs and improve our competitiveness in Europe-Far East trade, but also take a signicant step in the moderni-sation of our eet,” said Rolf Habben Jansen, CEO of HapagLloyd.

The Berlin Express will sail on the line’s route between the Far East and the Arabian Gulf and then transfer to her permanent route called the Far East Loop which sails betweenChina,HongKong,Taiwan,andSingaporetoSpain, Belgium,theNetherlands,theUK,andGermany.

The second ship of the class, Manila Express, will be delivered in August 2023. Delivery of the entire class of 12 shipsisduetobecompletedbeforetheendof2024.

UN Chief urges Maritime Nations to Chart Course for Net Zero Shipping Emissions by 2050

LONDON:TheHeadoftheUnited Nations called Monday for maritime nations to agree on a course for the shipping industry to reduce its climate-harming emissions to net zero by the middle of the century at thelatest.

The appeal by U.N. SecretaryGeneral Antonio Guterres came at the start of a meeting of the International Maritime Organization in London that’s seen as key for helpingachievetheinternationalgoal

of limiting global warming to 1.5 degreesCelsius(2.7Fahrenheit).

“Shipping, which accounts for almost 3% of global emissions, will be vital,”Guterressaid.

Heurgeddelegatestoagreeanew greenhouse gas strategy for shipping that includes “ambitious sciencebased targets starting in 2030 – both on absolute emissions reductions and theuseofcleanfuels.”

TheIMO’scurrenttargetisforthe shipping industry to cut its emissions

byatleasthalffrom2008to2050.

Guterres said the new targets should include all greenhouse gas emissions caused by the industry and backed the idea of introducing a carbon price for shipping. Campaigners have suggested that funds generated from a levy on emissions could be used to help poor nationstackleclimatechange,though the industry wants the money to go toward the development of clean technologies.

“AM (Alternative Mechanism) approval has been sought for CONCOREOI(expressionsofintent). The three ministers’ file has been sent and approval will be sought.

DIPAM (Department of Investment and Public Asset Management) has giventhego-ahead.Dependingonthe approval, immediately EOIs will be issued,” a Senior Government official said.

“Issues of the railway ministry have been addressed and railways is willing to go ahead with CONCOR EOIs, which is likely in a month’s time,” theofficialsaid.

“Interest for the Government’s stake in CONCOR has risen in the past month,” the executive said.

CONCOR is in constant dialogue with 4-5 potential investors for its disinvestment and a meeting between the government and interestedpartiesisbeingplannedfor thefirstweekofAugust,sourcessaid.

“Two more parties have shown strong interest in the government’s stake in CONCOR,” an another executivesaid.

Based on the company’s current market capitalisation, the 30.8 percent stake earmarked for sale is wortharoundRs12,000crore.

CEVA Logistics : New Trucking route open along the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan corridor

SHANGHAI: CEVA Logistics recently launched a new international road transport (TIR) route along the ChinaKyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan corridor, opening new trade routes in China and central Asia. The opening of the new route is expected to boost trade growth among the three countries anddeliverbenefitsacrosstheregion.

CEVA Logistics held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the launch of the new route as the shipment convoy of six trucks departed from western China’s inland city of Kashgar, crossing into Kyrgyzstan. Loaded with industrialcomponents,autopartsandconsumergoods,the first TIR trucks on the new route successfully arrived in Uzbekistan’s second-largest city, Samarkand, after approximately1,100kilometers.

Joanna Zhu, Managing Director of Greater China, CEVA Logistics, said: “With the successful pilot, CEVA is expecting more regular TIR operations on this new route with around 100 trucks every month. CEVA will continue to optimize ground and rail product portfolios to open direct routeswhilestrengtheningintermodalcapabilities.Wewill develop more trade lanes from China to the west and enhancetraderesiliencealongthecorridor.”

SouthernCorridorfacilitatesregionaltrade

Central Asia is the main passage along the Han-Tang Silk Road. The China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan Ground Transportation Corridor is concrete example of China’s "Belt and Road" initiative. The opening of a southern passage has the capacity to change the entire transportation pattern of Western China. The southern corridor is expected to broaden the transportation range of the Eurasian Continental Bridge. As more logistics parks settleinKashgar,exportcompaniesshippinggoodssuchas

auto parts, finished vehicles, and consumer and eCommerce goods will greatly benefit from the new route. As the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan route becomes more established, CEVA anticipates making Kashgar a ground consolidationcenterforWesternChina.

In addition to the TIR solution, CEVA continues to explore and strengthen its multimodal solutions and open new direct routes as infrastructure in the region develops. Current plans call for the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan Railway to be completed in 2025 and will make it the shortest freight route from China to the Middle East and Europe. The railway is expected to span more than 500 kilometers—more than 200 in China, 250 in Kyrgyzstan and thefinal50kilometersinUzbekistan.

CHENNAI : PSA Chennai recently achieved a significant milestone by handling its 10 millionth container in May, despite intense competition from neighbouring terminals and privateportsintheregion.

The terminal has also achieved multiple industry accolades over the years, which is a testament to its consistent performance and operationalexcellence.

Looking ahead, PSA Chennai has outlined its vision to enhance its customer base, expand its services, and solidify its position as a leading container terminal in the region. It aims to achieve this by emphasisingthedevelopmentofrailconnectivitytoconnect all major Inland Container Depots (ICDs) from PSAChennai,therebyprovidingcomprehensiveend-to-end logistics solutions with support from the PSA BDP team.
