DPA welcomes High level delegation from Iran

DPA creates New Milestone by handling 12.04 MMT Cargo in July 2022 Revising Berthing Policy from August 1st Cont’d. from Pg. 4 The volume of cargo handled in the month of July 2022 surpasses the traffic volume handled in the corresponding period of last fiscal by 30.49%. This has become possible due to inclusion of powerhouse coal in the cargo basket of DPA and the consistent volume of high-productive cargo like salt and aggregate. In the first four months of the current fiscal, the cargo volume handled by DPA has reached 46.52 MMT which is about 11.66% higher than the Traffic handled in the corresponding period of the last financial year. DPA, Kandla handles a substantial volume of cargo which are weather sensitive in nature. The productivity of ships loading/ unloading such cargo drops drastically during monsoons and as such capacity of berths used to remain underutilized earlier. However, with meticulous planning and preemptive actions, DPA has translated an otherwise disadvantageous situation into opportunity by allotting berths to the vessel scheduled to load / unload cargo that can be handled in adverse weather condition also. As a consequence, the berth-productivity had remained mostly unchanged throughout the month of July 2022

which had witnessed several prolonged spells of intense rain. This has been possible with the whole hearted support and cooperation of Board Members, Officials, Employees, Workers, Unions of DPA Port Users & Stakeholders. DPA has also issued a revised Berthing Policy coming into effect from August 1, 2022. The New Policy covers Allocation of Berths, Readiness of Vessel and Seniority, Coastal Vessels and General Instructions, said a communiqué from DPA.

Govt targets Rs 5.5-lakh-cr projects in Port sector : Sarbananda Sonowal NEW DELHI: The Union MoPSW Minister Shri Sarbananda Sonowal informed that Government has issued directions for the preparation of comprehensive Master Plan for Ports with a planning horizon of 2047 and has also directed to integrate all Port’s Master Plan with respect to vision 2047. The vision of this flagship program of the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways is to reduce logistics cost and catalyze port-led industrial and infrastructure development along the coastline. Further, under holistic development of coastal districts, a total of 567 projects entailing an estimated cost of around Rs 58,000 crore have been identified.

Exports flat at $35.24 bn in July 2022 vis-a-vis $35.51 bn in July 2021 NEW DELHI: India has achieved merchandise export of USD 35.24 billion in July 2022, almost at similar levels of USD 35.51 billion in July 2021. This has been achieved despite measures to control inflation (Iron Ore & Pellets, Iron and Steel, Petroleum Products, etc.) and the continued disruptions of supply chains due to Covid and RussiaUkraine conflict. Value of non-petroleum exports in July 2022 was 29.82 USD billion, registering a positive growth of only 0.48% over non-petroleum exports of USD29.67 billion in July 2021. The cumulative value of non-petroleum exports in April -July 2022-23 was USD 123.90 billion, an increase of 10.3% over USD 112.32 billion in April -July 2021-22. Va l u e o f n o n - p e t r o l e u m a n d non-gems and jewellery exports in July

2022 was USD 26.54 billion, registering a positive growth of 1.24% over nonpetroleum and non-gems and jewellery exports of USD 26.21 billion in July 2021. The cumulative value of non-petroleum and non-gems and jewellery exports in April - July 2022-23was USD 110.39 billion, an increase of 10.73% over cumulative value of non-petroleum and non-gems and jewellery exports of USD 99.69 billion in April -July 2021-22. India’s merchandise import in July 2022 was USD 66.26 billion, an increase of 43.59% over USD 46.15 billion in July 2021. India’s merchandise imports in April -July 2022-23 was USD 256.43 billion with an increase of 48.12% over USD 173.12 billion in April -July 2021-22. Value of non-petroleum imports was USD 45.13 billion in July 2022 with a positive growth of 33.74% over non-petroleum

imports of USD 33.74 billion in July 2021.The cumulative value of non-petroleum imports in April - July 2022-23was USD 174.39 billion, showing an increase of 34.35% compared to non-oil imports of USD 129.81 billion in April -July 2021-22. Value of non-oil, non-GJ (gold, silver & P recious metals) imports was USD 38.44 billion in July 2022 with a positive growth of 42.88%over non-oil and non-GJ imports of USD 26.9 billion in July 2021.Non-oil, non-GJ (Gold, Silver & Precious Metals) imports in April -July 2022-23 was USD 147.55 billion, recording a positive growth of 36.93%, as compared to non-oil and non-GJ imports of USD 107.75 billion in April -July 2021-22. The trade deficit in July 2022 was USD 31.02 billion, while it was 100.01 billion USD during April -July 2022-23.

Exports in July declined marginally amidst measures to control inflation : FIEO President N E W D E L H I : Reacting to monthly Trade Data for July 2022, FIEO President, Dr A Sakthivel said that exports of USD 35.24 billion with just a marginal decline of 0.76 percent, indicates the strong resilience of the exports sector despite measures to control inflation and the continued disruptions of supply chains due to Covid and Russia-Ukraine conflict. Signs of a likely slowdown in exports can been seen as global inventories are pretty high and the merchandise exports is facing the triple whammy: i) there is again a shift in consumption from goods to the services with opening up of economies after Covid-19 pandemic; ii) the inflation affecting all economies reducing the purchasing power and iii) many economies entering the recession while some advanced ones already in recession. The reduction in voyage time, with normalization of Covid disruptions, have also added to the inventory hike as goods which used to reach the West Coast of US in 150 days now reach in 60 days. The export figures have also been affected as the prices of most of the metal and commodities are

falling, which has resulted in value-wise export realization. However merchandise exports during April -July 2022-23 was USD 156.41 billion with an increase of 19.35% over USD 131.06 billion in April -July 2021-22 continue to showcase the strength of the exports sector amidst challenging ongoing geopolitical and rising global uncertainties. FIEO President said that the top sectors, which led the exports growth during the first 4-months of the fiscal were Petroleum Products, Engineering Goods, Gems & Jewellery, Organic & Inorganic Chemicals, Dr ugs and Pharmaceuticals, Electronic Goods, RMG of all Textiles and Rice. Labourintensive sectors also contributed to the exports basket, which is a good sign, further helping job creation in the country. President FIEO said that demand for low price products are on the rise and buyers are moving from China. These two factors are very positive for India. FIEO Chief also reiterated that the benefits of the newly signed FTAs and the PLI Scheme will further help us in building as we continue to move ahead during the fiscal. Imports growth of about 44 percent

during the month is of concern and has been mainly on account of Petroleum Products; Electronic Goods, Coal, Coke and Briquettes; Machinery, electrical & non-electrical; Organic and Inorganic Chemicals and Pearls, precious & Semiprecious stones; Artificial resins, plastic materials, etc.; Vegetable Oil and Nonferrous metals may be looked into. Crude prices have also added to the import bill of Petroleum Products, thereby to the import basket of the country added Dr Sakthivel. FIEO President is of the view that though the Government has announced a slew of measures to support exports, however, there is a need to support exports through enhancing credit limit under ECLGS by 25%, increasing subvention under Interest Equalisation Scheme, augment container manufacturing, developing an Indian Shipping Line of global repute, increase the validity of RoSCTL and RoDTEP scrips to 24 months and link transferability with realisation, extend RoDTEP to EOUs, SEZ and Advance Authorisation, expand usages of RoDTEP and RoSCTL scrips and logistics support for the sector looking at the higher freight cost.

Govt to facilitate Private sector participation in PM Gati Shakti Master Plan soon : Special Secretary – Logistics NEW DELHI: The PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan was launched last year with the aim to break departmental silos and bring in more holistic and integrated infrastructure planning with a focus on Multimodal M o d a l c o n n e c t i v i t y. A p a r t f r o m bringing Central Ministries and Departments together for infrastructure planning, the master plan is also getting the State Governments onboard. Amrit Lal Meena, Special Secretary (Logistics), Department for Promotion of Industr y and Internal Trade, Commerce Ministry was recently quoted as saying that the Government is working on a protocol for private sector participation in Gati Shakti Master Plan and soon the protocol along with facilitation mechanism will be established. On the Progress of Gati Shakti, he said, “after the launch, the first task was to upload data layers on the National Master Plan. BISAG -N (Bhaskaracharya Institute for Space Applications and Geoinformatics), which is developing the National Master Plan, has uploaded more than 900 data layers from different Central Ministries and more than 450 data layers pertaining to the state governments. Now Gati Shakti digital portal is up and running for usage by Central Ministries for their infrastructure planning and it is also being put to use by many of the State Governments. Second major aspect of the master plan is the capacity building and training, which is to be imparted to various Central Ministries and state governments and also to the consulting firms who are associated with different ministries for planning purposes. That exercise has also been extensively carried out. People have been trained,

user ID, passwords have been issued and most of the Ministries are now using it. At the national level, the institutional framework envisaged in the form of Empowered Group of Secretaries has already been established, network planning group constituting heads of planning division from various Ministries and Departments have already been set up with more than 25 meetings already been held and a technical support unit to support the network planning group has been set up. Speaking on Participation of States, he said, almost all the States, except for a f e w, h a v e a l s o s e t u p t h e i r institutional framework. So, all these states are fully on board and slowly and steadily adoption at the state level is picking up. The extent of adoption by States, in terms of putting data layers, in terms of its uses for their infrastr ucture planning, that varies from State to State and it depends on the interest shown by a particular State. It is a slow and steady progress. There are a large number of States which can be termed as frontrunners. Some of the States have started using the National Master Plan for their planning purposes. Some of the States have put their land revenue maps. So States like Gujarat, Kar nataka, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Tripura, Rajasthan have taken active involvement since the beginning. On planning to integrate the private sector into the Gati Shakti Master Plan, he said, “the National Master Plan is for usage by everyone, including the Government Departments. It is meant to be used by the private sector also. Now we are working out a protocol as to how the private sector is to be

involved with regard to access of data and its uses. Very soon the protocol and facilitation mechanism is likely to be established. For the Country as a whole when the private sector uses the National Master Plan data for its decision support system, then efficiency gains would come. If an investor before taking an investment decision is able to visualize the connectivity of a particular geography in terms of transport infrastructure, telecom infrastructure, power, gas infrastructure and so on, then the decision making would be better. Very soon it will be made available to the private sector.” On the progress of 100 Gati Shakti Multimodal Cargo Terminals. He said, “the Ministry of Railways has already come out with Gati Shakti Multimodal Cargo Terminal Policy. As per the latest discussions, 11 such Cargo Terminals have been planned by the Ministry of Railways and for rest they are at different stages of development. The National Highways Authority of India is spearheading the development of Multimodal Logistics Parks. There are plans to develop 35 such parks. Multimodal Logistics Parks will be the hub for the movement of containerised cargo in a articular geography. In this year’s budget, the setting up of four new Multimodal Logistics Parks was announced and the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has already started working on it. The connectivity to such MMLPs will be broadly along the expressways or highways. If there are requirements of rail connectivity, that under Gati Shakti will be discussed in the network planning group and depending on the requirements suitable action will be taken.

Railway hike Haulage charge on Empty Containers and Flat Wagons Railways reported 1418 million tonnes (MT) freight loading during 2021-22, 15 per cent higher than the 1233.24 MT loading in 2020-21 NEW DELHI: The Indian Railways has hiked the charge it levies for ferrying empty containers and flat wagons by reducing the discount it offers. Under the revised rates, there will be a discount of 10%. This is down from a 15% discount on haulage charge per twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU) for movement of empty containers and empty flat wagons. A TEU is a measuring standard often used for containers.

These revised charges will be valid from August 1, 2022 to October 31, 2022. I n A p r i l t h i s y e a r, t h e n a t i o n a l transporter had reduced the discount it offers for movement of empty containers and empty flat wagons from 25% to 15%, on the then prevailing haulage charge. A senior Rail Ministry official has told that the objective of these discounts was to encourage the container segment of freight during the COVID-19

pandemic. With record loading being seen in the last financial year, and the container loading showing expected growth, these discounts are being gradually reduced. The Indian Railways reported 1418 million tonnes (MT) freight loading during 2021-22, 15 per cent higher than the 1233.24 MT loading in 2020-21. This was the highest ever freight loading reported by the railways during a financial year till date.

A.P. Moller - Maersk continues to grow logistics business and deliver record results COPENHAGEN: A.P. Moller Maersk (Maersk) delivered record results in Q2 2022. Revenue increased by 52pct. and earnings more than doubled compared to same quarter last year. Results were driven by continued exceptional market conditions and sustained momentum from the strategic transformation focused on integrated logistics. Based on the strong performance in first half of 2022, Maersk has upgraded its guidance for the full year 2022 and increased the current share buyback programme. “We delivered an exceptionally strong result for the second quarter and consequently recorded the 15th quarter in a row with year-on-year earnings improvements. We are pleased with our performance across the business in first half of 2022, which clearly demonstrates the progress and great work by the entire Maersk team, transforming the company towards becoming a global, integrated logistics company,” said Søren Skou, CEO of A.P. Moller – Maersk. In Q2, revenue grew to USD 21.7bn, EBITDA and EBIT increased to USD 10.3bn and USD 9.0bn respectively, and free cash flow rose to USD 6.8bn. The Q2 net result came in at USD 8.6bn and USD 15.4bn for the first half of the year. Return on invested capital (ROIC) was at 62.5 pct. for the past 12 months. “The result was driven by strong contract rates in Ocean, rapid profitable growth in Logistics and continued solid performance in Terminals. Volumes in Ocean were softer as congestion continued and the war in Ukraine weighed on consumer confidence, particularly in Europe. However, in Logistics we grew volumes above the market as our Ocean customers continue to buy into our value proposition, resulting in organic revenue growth of 36pct., notching up the 6th quarter in a row of more than 30pct. organic growth,”added Søren Skou. In Ocean, revenue grew to USD 17.4bn and EBIT increased to USD 8.5bn over the second quarter. The higher freight rates were partly offset by 7.4pct. lower volumes and by higher fuel, handling, and network costs. Although spot rates have softened from their peak earlier in the year, the company continued to sign contracts at rates above previous year levels given strong demand

and continuing global supply chain congestion. During Q2, Maersk maintained its strong momentum in bringing integrated logistics solutions to customers. For the quarter, revenue in Logistics grew 61pct. to USD 3.5bn and EBIT increased to USD 234m mainly due to higher volumes from new customer wins and increased spending from existing customers. Maersk continued to invest in its logistics portfolio and capabilities; in Q2 the acquisitions of logistics specialist, Pilot Freight Services and the global air freight expert, Senator International were completed, and Maersk further strengthened its air freight offering by launching Maersk Air Cargo. In Terminals, revenue grew to USD 1.1bn and EBIT increased to USD 316m, mainly driven by strong import demand in the United States and above market growth in Asia as well as higher storage income, which was however partly offset by higher costs. Market situation Global demand for logistics services continued to moderate across global supply chains in Q2 2022. Freight rates softened marginally over the quarter but remained at a high level historically as supply chain congestion increased across the globe. Global container volume declined by 2.3pct compared to Q2 2021 while global air cargo volumes (CTK) were 9.4pct lower in April/May. Geopolitical uncertainty and higher inflation via higher energy prices continued to weigh on consumer sentiment and growth expectations. Given this background, in 2022 global container demand is now expected to be at the lower end of the -1% to +1% forecasted range. Guidance for 2022 As announced in a trading update August 2, for the full year 2022 Maersk anticipates an underlying EBITDA of around 37bn, an underlying EBIT of around 31bn and a free cash flow above USD 24bn. This is based on the strong per for mance in first half of 2022, and a gradual normalisation in Ocean taking place in the fourth quarter of 2022. Based on the improved guidance, the Board of Directors has decided to increase the current share buyback programme by USD 500m annually from USD 2.5bn to USD 3.0bn for the years 2022-2025.
