Lumberjacks convincing in win over Cards SFA closes 3-game slide with victory
to Trae Hart, De’Quann Ruffin and Tamrick Pace. He added touchdown runs of four, six and 17 yards. Conque opened the scoring for SFA with a 4-yard run to put the Lumberjacks into the lead at 7-3 in the opening quarter. He added a 6-yard touchdown run late in the second quarter to help his team to a 14-3 halftime edge. After Conque’s third rushing score — a 17-yard run in the third quarter — SFA started to put the game away
Senior quarterback Zach Conque accounted for six touchdowns in leading the Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks to a 42-19 win over Incarnate Word in San Antonio Saturday night. SFA ended a three-game losing streak with the win over the Cardinals, who fell to 1-7 with the setback. Conque completed 18 of 35 passes for 229 yards and threw touchdown passes
with Conque’s 32-yard scoring throw to Ruffin. He later added a 53-yarder to Hart and a 40-yarder to Pace. SFA rushed for 321 yards, with Conque (67 yards) and running backs Joshawa West (117 yards) and Loren Easly (86 yards) all having big performances in helping the Lumberjack offense to 564 yards offense. Incarnate Word was limited to 321 yards offense, just 99 rushing. Hart caught six passes for 86 yards while Pace finished with five for
75 yards. SFA (4-4, 2-3 in Southland) returns home to play Central Arkansas at 2:30 p.m. Saturday for the Lumberjacks’ homecoming contest. Central Arkansas 45, SLU 10 — Hayden Hildebrand accounted for four touchdowns, and the Central Arkansas defense allowed just 161 total yards in its 45-10 win over Southeastern Louisiana on Saturday night. Hildebrand completed 21 of 27 passes for 207 yards with three touchdowns and ran for another score.
Hildebrand’s 4-yard TD run early in the second capped a 12-play, 69-yard drive and made it 7-0. After Southeastern Louisiana went three-and-out, Matt Cummins made a 47-yard field goal with 9:54 left in the half and, 58 seconds later, Tyler Williams’ pick-six made it 17-0. The Lions (4-4, 2-2 Southland Conference) answered with an 11-play, 61-yard drive but had to settle for a 31-yard field goal by Jonathon Tatum. Central Arkansas has won six in a row.

Texas outlasts Baylor, 35-34
Longhorns kick late FG to trip Bears
AUSTIN (AP) — Trent Domingue kicked a 39-yard field goal with 46 seconds remaining and Texas upset No. 8 Baylor 35-34 on Saturday to hand the Bears their first loss. For the second straight season, coach Charlie Strong and the Longhorns (4-4, 2-3 Big 12) beat Baylor (6-1, 3-1). This time Texas also dealt a blow to the Big 12’s hopes of putting a team in the College Football Playoff. Both of the conference’s remaining unbeaten teams lost Saturday, with No. 10 West Virginia going down at Oklahoma State. D’Onta Foreman rushed for a career best 250 yards and two touchdowns for the Longhorns, who scored with 7:03 left on 7-yard pass from Shane Buechele to Andrew Beck to make it 34-32. The Bears stuffed Tyrone Swoopes trying to run for a 2-point conversion. Seth Russell had 364 yards passing and running and accounted for three touchdowns for Baylor. Foreman rushed for 100 yards in the first quarter, reaching the 100-yard mark for the ninth straight game. He scored twice in the half, on runs of 37 and 9 yards, and Texas held a 23-21 lead at the break. TAKEAWAYS Baylor: The Bears played a weak nonconference schedule and have faced only one team with a winning record so far. Getting into the playoff is going to be very tough even if they win out, but they have two games left against ranked teams (at No. 10 West Virginia and No. 16 Oklahoma). Texas: Was this a much-needed breakthrough for Texas? The Longhorns avoided falling to 3-5 for the third straight season under Strong. He is now 15-18,
including 11-12 in the Big 12, during his three seasons. UP NEXT Baylor: The Bears play host to TCU on Saturday. Texas: The Longhorns are at Texas Tech on Saturday. Baylor starting cornerback Grayland Arnold was injured while making a tackle on a kickoff in the first quarter at Texas on Saturday and was taken off the field on a cart. Medical personnel attended to Arnold for several minutes on the field. As the cart was leaving the field, Arnold gave a thumbs-up signal to fans. A Baylor spokesman said he did not immediately have any information about the injury. SMU 35, Tulane 31 — Braeden West rushed for 119 yards and two touchdowns, including the go-ahead score with 1:16 remaining to complete a 10-point fourthquarter comeback, and SMU held on to beat Tulane 35-31 on Saturday night. After Sherman Badie scored to give the Green Wave a 31-21 lead with 10:37 left to play, West capped a 10-play drive with a 1-yard score to cut the deficit to 31-24. SMU (4-4, 2-2 American) forced a turnover on downs, and after converting a third-and-25 on the drive, West plunged in for his second score, also from a yard out. Tulane (3-5, 0-4) converted two fourth downs on its ensuing possession, but Darrion Millines intercepted Glen Cuiellette’s pass as time expired. The Mustangs led 21-10 at halftime, but two 24-yard TD passes from Cuiellette to Terren Encalada put the Green Wave in front 24-21 before Badie’s 9-yard run.
