From the CHAIRMAN

The world as I know it has really changed. Like many of you, I’m struggling to make sense of the incomprehensible.

We have witnessed heartbreaking, disturbing and challenging times recently both close to home and across the globe. We have all watched with sorrow the events that took place in the UK. The loss and pain experienced in Manchester has left the entire world in shock. Our thoughts are with all those impacted and their families and friends.

2017 has been a very big year so far at Ettalong Diggers.

A busy year. A challenging year. An exciting year. It’s been a year of transformation, as we have embraced our new catering changes and new catering team.

I am reminded of the lifelong adage, “God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to know the difference.” Every minute of the day that I am alive I will choose to live and focus on happiness for myself, my family and my community. We may not be in total control of this world we live in; however to some degree we can control how we allow things to impact us and our ability to live and stay focused on making a positive impact on those around us.

While this world we live in seems to be out of control, we can still focus on the positive and one of the most obvious is this beautiful place we get to call home, the Central Coast and even more so The Peninsula. Even though Ettalong Diggers is in a competitive industry, I am fortunate enough to have positive friendships with our competition – and in fact I believe we win when our competitors “Win”.

All of our community benefits when positive things happen within our community clubs.

Sometimes, we may feel as though the success of others means that we are defeated or that someone has to lose.

That could not be further from the truth. Sometimes this can empower you and others to achieve more and it can inspire strong foundations for community spirit. Believing there is enough good out there is what motivates me to keep Ettalong Diggers improving, growing and prospering financially. Every challenge, every tragedy, every hardship we encounter or hear about within our community only motivates and drives us as a club to assist and make a difference. Sometimes the difference is enough to help change a life, create an opportunity or simply to just hold hands and support the unity of this wonderful community.

It is evident to see the great community sprit we have on the Peninsula and that we are deeply united no matter the circumstance, but tragedies can help us discover how intricately connected we truly are.

The business would not be in the strong position it is today were it not for our people.

One of our core strengths is the capability and experience of our united team. This is borne from a culture of empowering and developing our people to succeed at every level, and encouraging accountability, innovation and excellence.

The move to the new improved catering plan has further embedded our culture and people capability and we have seen significant efforts thus far to ensure that our people remain our key competitive advantage.

As we announced earlier this year, a unanimous decision was made by the board to take back the catering after the contract for the most recent catering company expired.

Stephane Stanisics’ appointment as Catering Manager is another major milestone for Ettalong Diggers. Stephane as the right leader at this stage of the club’s evolution, and he is supported by a very capable senior leadership team.

Stephane is justifiably regarded as an outstanding chef and catering manager.

He will be an integral part of the growth and success of the future business of the club. The Board is confident that the club will continue to prosper under the leadership of Stephane and his team.

Having reached the vast majority of our restructuring milestones already, we can now focus on the new Ettalong Diggers becoming reality as renovations get underway.

With the financial capacity to make the investments to compete with the best, we will also create new opportunities for our people.

A stronger financial foundation allows us to invest in our club — in renewing our equipment, enhancing our products, growing our facilities and creating opportunities for our staff. Ettalong Diggers is in excellent shape and I have complete confidence in the long term future of the club.

In closing I would also like to thank our many members for their continuing loyalty and support of Ettalong Diggers.

While this is a time of major transition internally with renovations fast approaching, it remains business as usual for Ettalong Diggers. We have a sound strategy in place and a committed and highly experienced senior management team which has been the key architect of this strategy.

I would like to thank the senior management team, led superbly by Col Murphy, for their outstanding contribution once again to the growth of the club. I would also like to extend my personal best wishes to Stephane our newly appointed Catering Manager for this next phase of his career.

Also I would like to take this opportunity to thank my Board of Directors for their contribution and commitment to the success of Ettalong Diggers.

Renovation plans will be displayed in the club shortly.

STEPHANE STANISIC OUR NEW BEHIND EVERY GOOD CATERING CATERING MANAGER IS IN THE BUILDING. MANAGER IS A BRILLIANT HEAD CHEF….

MEET OURS......MATT FAYERS. So let’s find out a bit more about the man behind the new dining experience at Ettalong Diggers.

Well the rumours are true…he is French, born and bred….and yes he has an amazing accent!

During his career he has worked in Hotels and Resorts, clubs and restaurants in many different countries including France, Scotland, Switzerland and Dubai, UAE. Stephane relocated to Australia in 1998, primarily for work and lifestyle opportunities and he has never looked back.

He has three children (all born in Australia) and has lived and worked in many venues and parts of Australia. His most recent work history prior to joining our team here includes Whytes on the Esplanade, Torquay (Consultant Chef), Peppers the Sands, Torquay (Executive Chef) and Rich River Golf Resort, Moama (Catering Manager).

In 2001 he was in the Top 100 Chefs of Australia (Gourmet Traveller) and was the youngest Chef ever to get the Chef Hat in NSW (this is the equivalent to a Gold Logie).

Now Stephane and his family call the Central Coast their home and we are delighted to work with him and excited to see what magic he will create.

Matt has been working at Ettalong Diggers for the last 7 years under the previous Catering contractors. Stephane saw the talent, commitment and passion Matt has for his job and made sure he stayed on board as part of our new catering team.

Matt is from the UK and worked in many restaurant kitchens there during his career. In 2009, Matt made a life-changing decision to move his young family to Australia for better opportunities and a more positive lifestyle.

Initially he worked in Sydney, but was soon lured to the Peninsula and now is one of the lucky ones that gets to live and work in our beautiful community. Both his young daughters attend Umina Public School and Matt knows he made the right decision every day when he sees how happy they are. He is a very proud father!

Matt and Stephane have formed a wonderful alliance and the respect they have for each other is very evident.

On behalf of our wonderful new Catering team, we look forward to serving you and your family and friends at Ettalong Diggers…. the destination of choice for lifestyle, hospitality and entertainment.

It’s time for a “Cool Change” on the Peninsula…

GLENN SHORROCK

Glenn’s musical career spans five decades. He has played a significant role in Australian music for 45 years and and was lead singer for The Twilights (from the 60s), Axiom (from the early 70’s) and, of course, LRB (from the 70s and early 80s).

The touring days of LRB, saw him performing in front of 85,000 people. “We did a lot of huge shows. That’s still a strong memory.”

As a testament to his enduring talent he has been twice inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame first in 1991 in his own right and again with The Little River Band in 2004.

Glenn has also done theatre and radio during his career.

“I like to try different forms of show business. I like to diversify but, basically, I’m a singer and that’s what I do best.”
