Gifts given this Christmas will go to families supported by Mission Australia’s Brighter Futures program.

Brighter Futures works with parents whose complex circumstances impact their ability to care for their children. Through case management, parenting courses and other supports, the program helps to improve family cohesion and healthy child development, reduce the incidence of domestic violence, and much more.

While our minds naturally go towards children at Christmas time, Mission Australia asks that you also remember their parents as you consider purchasing a gift this year, as they often make many sacrifices and regularly go without.

KOKODA YOUTH LEADERSHIP CHALLENGE 2017

Local youths Xanthe Britton & Tyler Dunbar, sponsored by the Soldiers Club are included in the KYLC Trek 2 Group 1/Platoon 1 which departed for Owners Corner on Saturday 23rd September.

They received their pre-trek briefings from Major Chad Sherrin MM followed by checking out the Network Kokoda Agriculture Centre next to Sogeri Lodge. Wishing them a very successful trek & safe return.

CONTAINER DEPOSIT SCHEME WHAT WE KNOW SO FAR The New South Wales Government Container Deposit Scheme - General Information •

The New South Wales (NSW) Government has legislated for a Container Deposit Scheme (CDS) which will start in NSW on 1 December 2017.

•

The NSW Government initiative and will impact all eligible containers sold in NSW, regardless of manufacturer.

All NSW beverage containers between 150ml and 3 litres in volume will be eligible for a refund with some exceptions therefore, do not qualify for a refund include: - plain milk (or milk substitute) containers - flavoured milk containers 1 litre or more - pure fruit or vegetable juice containers 1 litre or more - glass containers for wine and spirits - casks (plastic bladders in boxes) for wine and casks for water 1 litre or more - sachets for wine 250ml or more - containers for cordials, concentrated fruit/vegetable juices - registered health tonics.

Why? • To help meet the NSW Government’s goal of reducing the volume of litter in NSW by 40% by 2020.

How does it work?

• The CDS means a ten cent refund must be available (for any eligible container)

returned empty to an authorised collection point. In addition to the ten cent refund there will be a cost per container to cover handling and administrative fees for running of the Container Deposit Scheme. The NSW Government has not yet confirmed the handling and administrative fees, so we do not know yet the specifics of how the CDS will impact costs and prices.

What does it mean for me?

•

Because the CDS will impose new costs on beverage suppliers: - Beverage suppliers may pass through this cost (deposit, handling and administration fees) in their price - If your cost has changed this may be reflected in the Recommended Retail Price (RRPs)
