From the CHAIRMAN
Last year we announced our vision and plans for the internal upgrading of Ettalong Diggers. As a result, our operating and physical environment has been changing and is expected to continue to change dramatically over the coming months, but our overriding philosophy of placing members at the heart of everything we do will remain unchanged. As we head towards halfway mark of 2018 and beyond, we will continue to transform ourselves and take on new challenges with the aim of creating a modern, safe and exciting club. These internal changes also allow us to create a strong operating platform capable of delivering consistent growth and competition in any environment.
So far, this year has proven to be a challenging but remarkable year for all of us here at Ettalong Diggers.

Naturally, we cannot accurately predict what the world will be like in ten or twenty years’ time. That is why we are looking to lay the foundation for a solid operating platform that can help us sustain growth. We cannot achieve our goals or meet the needs of our members without our progressive board members and our dedicated and passionate management team. We are already starting to see positive results with changes made in our catering department now in-house, but we still have a lot of work to do. By transforming the club internally, we will gradually continue to take on new challenges to seek more growth. Some initiatives may not lead to concrete results in the short term, but I am personally committed to ensuring success for Ettalong Diggers over the longer term. This is an exciting time for all of us and we watch the club transform internally with new carpet, updated furniture, modern Sports Bar, fresh catering options including a café and relocation of the children’s play area. I thank you all for your patience and support while these changes have been and continue to be taking place. We have been vigilant to keeping any disruptions to a minimum and apologise if anyone has been inconvenienced in the process. Please rest assured that the result will be well worth it all! Exciting times ahead at Ettalong Diggers.

There is one thing that we have come to count on, our business is predictably unpredictable. There are so many outside forces that affect our success; the economy, technology, spending cycles, Mother Nature and politics. Our CEO, Mr Bill Jackson and the senior management team’s continued commitment to excellence have allowed us to successfully grow and diversify, evidenced by our revenue growth and our ability to finally renovate and update the premises. This year we have focused and invested in finally making all the long overdue changes to the club’s facilities. As such, adapting to change and taking on new challenges is now part of our DNA. To remain relevant to the club industry and the community and ensure consistent growth, we must listen to our diverse group of members and increasingly contribute to help assist and resolve issues that our community faces. We also remain committed to enhancing our employee skills and tools that are essential for us to succeed in our competitive industry. Building on last year’s success, 2018 looks to continue to be a year of tremendous opportunity. As we embark on the new transitions ahead, we will continue to operate according to Core Values that have nurtured our current success. It is both a privilege and great responsibility to be the Chairman of such an astonishing organization. I am truly humbled and honoured to work with such a resilient and motivated team.

Roland is one of those rare entertainers who is still working continuously as a performer. He commands audience attention from his position at the keyboard and with his warm and genuine personality. He trained at the Conservatorium in classical piano and vocals and he can pretty much play and/or sing any song thrown at him. Born in Rockhampton, Queensland, Roland is a favourite in 25 countries around the world, with a career spanning from the sixties right through to now! Barbara is a diverse singer who has performed in cover bands, duo’s, club show bands and her own cabaret show. To achieve such a complete entertainment package Barbara draws on a wealth of experience from entertaining audiences within Australia and overseas. Barbara’s unmistakable talent has not gone unnoticed having been requested to support various overseas artists touring our shores.

CARICATURIST With over 25 years in the media - including 10 years at The Australian and Sydney’s Daily Telegraph - Steve Panozzo is one of Australia’s more prominent cartoonists and caricaturist. His cartoons and caricatures have appeared in more than 35 books, and his work has been hung in almost 40 exhibitions in Australia and overseas. Steve’s “on-the-spot” talents have enlivened corporate events for scores of companies such as AMP, KPMG, Panasonic, Coca-Cola, Commonwealth Bank, Westpac and Deutsche Bank.
He featured at the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games, and was official caricaturist for the Big Brother TV series in 2004. By 1988, after playing everywhere and supporting everyone, they were poised to impact with their debut album. Impact they did, winning ARIA’s for Best New Talent and Highest Selling Album. The very same album went on to become the highest selling Australian debut album of all time.
So, what better way to celebrate than with a night that “Rewinds” through the ever-growing body of music spanning a 30-year career to date. With a career spanning 15 albums, 35 singles and 6 ARIA awards, it will no doubt be a night to remember as Diesel takes to the stage in solo mode, allowing him to roam even further into the “nooks and crevices” of his back catalogue as he trawls through the Highways and back roads that have made him the journeyman of music he is today.
