Denis Pommer and Bill Lovering are the founders of Our Lady of the Rosary’s Lunch with Friends that helps to feed the homeless and the marginalised, at risk members of our community.

Together Denis and Bill started Lunch With Friends in July 2006, with a simple BBQ and sausages. Since then they have made sure that those people have access twice a week to good quality meals and that’s where Tweed Heads Bowls Club comes in.

THBC has supported Lunch With Friends by providing a nutritional two course hot meal of meat and vegetables every fortnight for over ten years. That’s a total of over 24,000 meals. We are proud to support this worthwhile cause and look forward to doing so whilst there is such a need for this service in our community.

The team at Lunch with Friends also provide sleeping bags, professional swags, good quality clothing and a supportive ear. Referrals to support services and agencies are also made available to help people get back on their feet. Lunch with Friends takes place every Tuesday and Thursday at 12pm at Goodwin Park in Coolangatta.

This is a wonderful partnership between Tweed Heads Bowls Club and Lunch with Friends helping thousands of people get back on their feet.

A day in the role of A Duty Manager Ever wondered what a typical day looks like for our Duty Managers.

We asked them about it, what they love about it and more.

The variety of responsibilities carried out as a Duty Manager means that there may not be such a thing as a typical day for our Duty Managers. The role itself is challenging and varied, from shift to shift you never know what might come up.

Every day brings something new, so they are always prepared and flexible to resolve different operational, customer and staff issues and that what’s they really enjoy about being a Duty Manager.

THBC Duty Managers are responsible for overseeing all aspects of the day to day operations of the Club with the highest regard to safety and high quality service delivery. They have various extra duties including the morning set up of the Club, sort out staff for the day, sort out functions, reconcile cash room. However, the main goal is to make sure the Club runs smoothly and our members and guests happy.

Through the years they have been able to meet and build strong relationships with customers and staff. They feel that Tweed Heads Bowls Club is part of their family because they work in a friendly environment where there is strong cohesion. Staff and members take care of each other; it is a unique culture that we are proud of. They know that they a have a great team behind them supporting everything they do. They have made lots of friends over the years in and outside the Club.

Yet the best part of a working day at Tweed Heads Bowls Club is when they get complimented from customers regarding exceptional service and delicious food.

So next time you see them, don’t hesitate to say hello, they wear the white shirt with a tie!
