Since then, he has scoffed at wearing masks, criticized regional neighbours for imposing lockdowns, and rejected coronavirus vaccines until his government independently verifies them. In early January, Magufuli told the visiting Chinese foreign affairs minister, Wang Yi, that "there is no coronavirus in Tanzania."

Then, after appearing at an event in Tanzania's commercial capital Dar es Salaam on Feb. 24, Magufuli disappeared from public view.

The death last month of Zanzibar's first vice president, Seif Sharif Hamad , days after he announced he was hospitalized with the virus, and the death of Magufuli's chief secretary at State House and head of the civil service, John Kijazi, from an unspecified illness exposed what many worried was the true extent of the pandemic.

There have been reports of local hospitals being overrun by patients displaying Covid-19 symptoms, and shortages of critical care beds, oxygen and ventilators across major towns and cities in the country. The government denies these reports.

This week, the leading newspaper in neighboring Kenya, the Daily Nation, wrote : "The leader of an African country who has not appeared in public for nearly two weeks is admitted to Nairobi Hospital for Covid-19 treatment, even as his government remains mum on his whereabouts."

Within hours, speculation was rife that Magufuli had been secretly flown to Nairobi for emergency medical attention and later airlifted for treatment in India. Insider has not been able to confirm these reports.

"Over the past month, the country has lost university professors, army generals, doctors, lawyers, engineers and other professionals of high public standing," Lissu an opposition leader told Insider. "It is highly irresponsible, and in my view criminal, for the president to continue to deny the presence of coronavirus, spurn international help and repudiate the vaccines."

On Friday, government officials addressed the rumor for the first time and insisted that Magufuli was alive and

well, but offered no proof.

"President Magufuli is in good health and continues to carry on with his normal duties," Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa said in a statement from his office. "I spoke to him (Magufuli) today and he sends his greetings to you," Majaliwa insisted.

Tanzania confirmed its first coronavirus case in March 2020, but a month later Magufuli - who has a PhD in chemistry - questioned the accuracy of the test results that confirmed the result. Cumulative cases had reached 480 people and 16 had been reported dead from the coronavirus by April 29, but Magufuli ordered the country's Health Ministry to stop releasing updates.

On Feb. 27, three days after his last public appearance, the government announced that Magufuli had presided over the swearing in of a senior public official and attended a virtual regional summit for the East African Community (EAC) trade bloc.

It was later revealed that Magufuli did not, in fact, attend the EAC summit after all, and was instead represented by his Vice President, Samia Suluhu Hassan.

Since then, Magufuli has remained conspicuously absent from public view, missing his customary Sunday church attendance for two consecutive weeks, an oddity for the devout Catholic.

Unlike other East African countries, which have urged social distancing and encouraged the use of masks, it's been business as usual in Tanzania. Public buses are crowded with passengers, with few wearing masks, while pubs and night clubs have been full of revelers.

Local league matches at football stadiums and music festivals are ongoing across the country, usually packed to capacity.

CLEANING LUSAKA’S FILTHY CBD FOLLOWING an uproar from the public on the mounting filth in the Central Business District (CBD), Lusaka mayor Miles Sampa has taken steps to ensure the dirt and mountains of garbage is removed.

Mr Sampa has once again sought a pragmatic approach to carry out a civic duty of cleaning the city, in particular the CBD. He has temporarily shifted his office to the CBD in a bid to get the city centre cleaned after noticing that despite spending huge sums of money, the city garbage remained uncollected and complaints from residents kept growing louder.

“I have moved my office to the Central Business District to personally supervise the Lusaka City Council in picking up garbage,” said Mr Sampa.

Unfortunately this scenario is not confined to Lusaka only but most other districts where council workers spend hours “working” but the outcome usually falls short of expectation.

In this particular case, the mayor noted that despite huge sums of money being spent on garbage collection, there wasn’t much to show for the money as the heaps of garbage were not reducing.

And now the mayor has moved into the city centre to ensure that garbage is moved by participating and supervising the work.

Armed with garbage trucks and a willing workforce, the mayor has been going around the CBD dismantling heaps of garbage much to the appreciation of the public who had grown tired of the sore smelly sights.

It is clear that the superficial cleaning that some shops in the CBD engage in, just involves gathering the rubbish into heaps which are left for the council garbage trucks to collect. Unfortunately, the collection rarely happens, leading to the heaps of garbage turning into mountains of rotten vegetables and other discarded stuff from shops and restaurants.

It is rather sad that though the council spends huge sums of money on garbage collection, there is nothing to show where the money is spent because the garbage remains intact.

It is therefore a good move for the civic leader to take this practical approach and work with the council workers to clean the city and save the residents from a possible outbreak of cholera. Lusaka, like many other towns, has had previous encounters in the past with cholera and the 2017 was the worst and claimed close to 100 lives. It had to take President Edgar Lungu ordering the security forces on the streets to ensure that the cholera pandemic was eliminated.

Nobody would want to go through such a situation again and therefore any effort taken to prevent a cholera outbreak should be applauded and appreciated.

We therefore applaud Mayor Sampa’s efforts and his drive to ensure Lusaka’s CBD is cleaned and kept clean.

Mr Sampa has dedicated seven days to supervise the council workers to ensure the CBD was cleanedup.

He said the decision to work from the CBD was as a result of several complaints from residents over the unsanitary condition due to uncollected heaps of garbage in Lusaka.

We hope that other civic leaders can take a leaf from Mr Sampa and clean their cities, towns and districts and ensure that they protect residents from harm and a possible cholera outbreak especially with the rain season in full force.

‘FUEL TANKERS SOLID INVESTMENT FOR YOUTHS’

OVERNMENT’S move to empower youth cooperative groups with 50 fuel tankers is a solid investment, says Energy Expert Johnstone Chikwanda.

Mr Chikwanda has meanwhile called on the Energy Regulation Board (ERB) to give fuel transportation licenses to the youth cooperatives so that they could commence operations as soon as possible.

He also offered to mentor some youth cooperatives in the sector at no charge as a way of giving back to the

country.

Mr Chikwanda said in an interview that the gesture from the Head of State was timely because youth participation in the energy sector was almost non-existent due to high cost investment and stiff requirements.

He said with the ongoing empowerment policy in the sector, youths would significantly benefit as they would be allocated the amount of fuel to transport.

The energy expert added that this would lead to more economic empowerment which would lead to alleviation of poverty among youths

and entrenching their participation in the sector.

"Government has done a commendable job by intervening with an affirmative empowerment action without which it would be impossible for youths to actively participate in the main stream energy sector," he said.

Mr. Chikwanda said the gesture was proof enough that Government was committed to resolving the plight of youths in the country.

He added that the empowerment was unprecedented in the country and the region to an extent and urged youths to be more responsible.

High copper prices to spur copper production - minister

By SILUMESI MALUMO THE high price of copper on the international market will encourage mining houses to increase production, Minister of Mines and Minerals Development Richard Musukwa has said.

Mr Musukwa said the price of copper on the international market had continued to increase which would give confidence to the players in the mining sector.

He said this was good because once production increased the country would be able to generate enough revenue.

He said in an interview that there had been an increase in the production of electric vehicles which rely on copper, this was why the price had continued going up.

Mr Musukwa said the more advanced the technology becomes the more copper the industry would require.

"It is important that the players in the mining sector take advantage of what is prevailing on the international market," Mr Musukwa said.

"This is the time mining houses should invest more so that they can increase their production for the country to start exporting more copper.

He said the prospects for the mining sector looks positive following what was prevailing on the international market.

UPND justifies high application fees

By SIMON MUNTEMBA WE deliberately hiked the application fees for adoption as a way of raising money for our popular candidates that may not be able to fund their campaigns, the opposition UPND has said.

Last week UPND aspiring candidates complained against the K5, 000 application fee being charged by their party describing it as exorbitant and discriminatory against humbled members.

The candidates com-

plained that the K2, 000 fee charged by the PF for Parliamentary candidates was more reasonable and fair compared to UPND’s.

But UPND spokesperson Cornelius Mweetwa said contrary to assertions that fees were discriminatory against humble members, the opposition party came up with the K5,000 fee to help economically challenged candidates.

Mr Mweetwa said well-meaning UPND members should not complain against the fees because the party will use part of the funds to spon-

sor economically challenged candidates.

“So, we considered a number of factors before coming up with that figure.

We want to use part of that money to fund campaigns for popular female, youthful and physically challenged candidates who may have difficulties in financing their campaigns,” Mr Mweetwa said.

Mr Mweetwa said it was shocking that people were complaining about K5, 000 fee being charged for aspiring candidates when it was the same figure used in 2016.

CHITA Lodge and Resorts Limited has asked the High Court for an order of certiorari to quash the Department of National Parks and Wildlife (DNPW)’s decision to proceed with the tendering of the hunting concession for upper Luano.

The company is also seeking an order of mandamus to oblige the DNPW to hear and determine its appeal against

the latter’s decision to refuse to grant Chita Lodge a hunting concession license for the upper Luano.

In its application for judicial review, Chita Lodge says if leave is granted such leave should act as a stay of the decision complained of.

The Office of the Permanent Secretary is responsible for directing and

coordinating the execution of the portfolio functions and advises the Minister with respect to the activities, projects and programmes in the Ministry.

The day-to-day execution of portfolio functions are carried out by six (6) directorates namely: a. Directorate of Water Resources Development, responsible for national water security and international water cooperation. b. Directorate of Water Supply and Sanitation, responsible for urban and rural water supply and sanitation. c. Directorate of Environmental Management mandated to oversee environmental management and protection. d. Directorate of Planning and Information mandated to perform the planning, knowledge management and monitoring and evaluation functions of the Ministry. e. Furthermore, the Ministry has presence in all the ten provinces and in all the districts through the Department of Water Resources Development as well as at all provincial levels through the Department of Water Supply and Sanitation.

In carrying out its functions, the Ministry collaborates with other ministries, statutory bodies, International Organizations, Cooperating Partners and NGOs. The main areas of collaboration include capacity building, resource mobilization, infrastructure development, information sharing and technical assistance in line with the mandate of the Ministry.

The Zambia Water Week and World Water Day Zambian stakeholders in the Water Sector have long lobbied the Government of the Republic of Zambia for the establishment of an official period which could be commemorated nation wide as the Zambia Water Week. The main objective of this was to have a period of time at least once a year during which the Zambian Water Sector would come together and share knowledge and experiences about pertinent water and sanitation issues affecting the nation. In addition, this would also be the main period during which Government would explain its key policy measures in the water and sanitation sector for the current year.

Thus, during the 8th Zambia Water Forum and Exhibition conference held in June 2019, Her Honour the Vice President directed the Minister of Water Development, Sanitation and Environmental Protection to ensure that the Zambia Water Week is established. In this regard, Cabinet approval was sought by the Ministry of Water Development for the establishment of the Zambia Water Week. This approval was granted at a Cabinet meeting Chaired by His Excellency the President of the Republic of Zambia 2020.

Furthermore, Cabinet directed that the Zambia Water Week and the World Water Day should be aligned. In this regard, the week preceding the 22nd of March World Water Day, that is the period 15th – 21st March every year would be commemorated in Zambia as the Zambia Water Week commencing this year. Consequently, the theme for the Zambia Water Week will always be the same as that of the World Water Day although sub themes as appropriate could vary somewhat. Thus, the finale of the Zambia Water Week will be the World Water day commemorations on Monday 22nd March 2021. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s commemoration of Zambia Water Week and World Water Day will be low key and largely confined to media engagements.

Interpretation of the theme As was highlighted in the Ministerial speech to launch the Zambia Water Week, this year’s theme, ‘Valuing Water’ is all about appreciating the enormous and complex value of water for our very existence and wellbeing. It goes beyond the issue of pricing and captures the essence of what water means to health, economics, households, education, cultures and traditions, and the sustainability of our natural environment. In this regard, the Ministry also supports the general view supported by the international water community that the value of water can be looked at from five different perspectives as follows: a. the value of natural water resources and ecosystems.

All water comes from the environment and associated ecosystems to produce the water cycle as we know it. Therefore, a very high value must be placed on protection and proper management of the environment.

This will ensure good quality water supply and resilience to the impacts of climate change such as floods and droughts; b. the value of water infrastructure for water storage, water treatment and water supply. Where water infrastructure is absent or inadequate, socio-economic development is weak and ecosystems become vulnerable. Furthermore, the full value of water infrastructure needs to take into account the social and environmental costs of putting up such infrastructure and resources allocated accordingly; c. the value of water services such as drinking water, sanitation and health services. These are particularly critical in disease out breaks such as the covid-19 pandemic and for households, schools, workplaces and health care facilities; d. the value of water for socio-economic production with respect to food and agriculture, energy and industry, and business and employment creation; and e. the socio-cultural value of water which encompasses aspects to do with recreation, culture, spirituality and tradition. A full understanding of the socio-cultural values of water cannot be attained without embracing the diversity of stakeholders and stakeholder interests in the management and development of water resources.

Thus, the ministry will strive to foster the integrated water resources management approach as well as to embrace emerging trends such as the water-sanitationhealth-energy-food-climate nexus.

Focus for 2021 The Ministry will continue to pursue the objectives and targets set out in the Seventh National Development Plan (7NDP), Vision 2030 and UN Sustainable Development goals. This will be done through the implementation of four (4) key programmes namely: a. Water Resources Development and Management Programme, b. Water Supply and Sanitation Programme, c. Environmental Management and Protection Programme, and d. Management and Support Services Programme.

This is according to the Zambia Association of Manufacturers (ZAM) Policy Advisor, Zondwayo Duma.

Mr Duma said the Public Procurement Act had some loopholes worth paying attention to such as the K3 million worth of gaining of goods reserved for citizen companies.

For instance, he cited, whereas a K3 million reservation for foods and beverages may be sufficient, the same amount was little for

In this discussion we will bring out interesting aspects of quality management in projects, who is accountable, and who is responsible. Borrowing from the ISO definition of quality: "The totality of features and characteristics of a product or service that bear on its ability to satisfy stated or implied needs". In simpler words, one can say that a product has good quality when it "complies with the requirements specified by the client". In other word a product or service must be fit for purpose before being accepted or signed off.

Does your organisation follow any of the formal methods for quality management, e.g.

ISO9000? In project management the project manager is responsible for developing the project plan which should include quality management plan. Quality project management plan should include quality policy, acceptance criteria, change management procedures, quality tools and standards. Quality is usually measured by the extent to

from the fact that a number of companies had defaulted on various agreements.

He said it would therefore be encouraged that Government stiffened the screening procedures, to allow for an upfront payment to be made, just as was the case with foreign imports.

“For more effectiveness, in the implementation of the Act, there is need for Government to undertake monthly evaluations which have not been undertaken for a long period of time.

“Evaluations will aid the Government understand the capacities of the local manufacturers by product and subsector and will remove the blanket understanding or perception that local manufacturers are not able

to deliver on contracts,” Mr Duma said.

He explained that the Public Procurement Act provided for 15 percent preference of domestically produced goods.

Mr Duma indicated that the margin of preference was applied as a discount to the bid price of the eligible bidder during financial evaluation.

“Notably, the nationality of the bidder is not a condition for such eligibility. Further, up to K3 million worth of procurement of goods is reserved for citizen companies, up K20 million worth of building construction costs, and up to K30 million for road works. While, up to K1 million is reserved for services,” he said.

INDO Zambia Bank (IZB) has signed a partnership agreement with the National Health Insurance Management Authority (NHIMA) to facilitate for the premium payments using the digital platform.

The strategic electronic platform integration with NHIMA is aimed at facilitating a convenient and easy way for customers and the general public to make statutory payments to NHIMA. IZB Managing Director, Kowdichar Shashidar, said his organisation had been a supporting partner to NHIMA from its inception, particularly through the collection of monthly employee contributions and a host of other banking solutions.

The Cost of Quality

who is accountable? Who is responsible? which requirements are met.

In the quality management plan the project manager specifies the standards and quality measures which will be applicable to the project deliverables and specifies the quality team and their duties.

It is important to note here that the quality team is accountable in ensuring that deliverables are fit for purpose.

Quality activities take time hence a good practice will be to schedule them in the project timeline or GANTT chart.

Project manager is responsible for ensuring that quality activities are taking place as

scheduled. The reputation of the quality team is at stake when defects reach the customers and this must not be allowed.

As the saying goes, you cannot mark your own homework, therefore the quality team must be independent of the project management team to avoid conflict of interest for obvious reasons. The quality team members must be members of professional bodies to promote good ethics in their work. They must also possess industry standard qualifications and licences to enable them approve and sign-off

project deliverables. Are your quality teams in your projects independent of the project management team? I leave the answer to you. Quality activities cost money because they take time. Therefore quality activities must be budgeted or accommodated in the project budget. The cost of quality must be understood and appreciated weighed against the cost of quality conformance versus the cost of quality non-conformance. Just to elaborate a little bit more on quality costs. Quality conformance costs arise from efforts to keep defects from occur-

RBZ allays money supply growth fears HARARE – The government needs $60 billion to buy maize from farmers this marketing season but this will not trigger money supply growth in the economy, Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) Governor Dr John Mangudya has said.

In the wake of the expected bumper harvest, Dr Mangudya, allayed fears that the Government accounts will not meet payments for maize deliveries to the Grain Marketing Board (GMB), a situation which would compel monetary authorities to print more money.

The printing of more money increases money supply growth in the economy while ultimately triggering inflationary pressures on the market.

Speaking during the Confederation of Zimbabwe Industries annual virtual symposium, the RBZ chief said the alignment between the Government and the Central Bank was sound.

“Even though not well informed, some people have been commenting that the maize output is going to

require $60 billion, but at the Government accounts, the Reserve Bank has got $13 billion therefore, the Reserve Bank is going to print more money to purchase maize, its not like that.

“The $60 billion is going to be required over a period of time from April or May when people start selling their produce up to end of September.

“Therefore, the $60 billion is not required in one day. It’s a flow, now what the analysts were doing was looking at a snap-shot analysis, but here we are talking of a flow,” he said.

Zimbabwe this year expects to produce 2.5 million to 2.8 million tonnes of maize and 360, 000 tonnes of traditional grains, and this could turn out to be the largest yield achieved by the country since the fast-track land reform commenced in 2000.

Already, GMB has announced that it will be paying farmers within 72 hours of delivery and the Government has increased the maize producer price to $32, 000 per tonne from the $21, 000 that was paid last year.

Dr Mangudya said in the first week of the marketing season, the monetary authorities could release $5 billion to pay the farmers. – THE HERALD, Zimbabwe.

Allow Your Past Mistakes To Help You Before you make another bad purchase, think about the last bad one you made and how it made you feel. That could just help you reveal some behavioural patterns that hinder your Financial Management journey that you need to change for the better or totally do away with. Use your will power to do this.

Focus, Eyes On The ‘Ball’, Always Remember Your Goals When all is said and done, always remember your Financial Goals and why you are making an effort to control your spending.

CHAOTIC YOUTHS ON YOUTH DAY MISSED A GOLDEN OPPORTUNITY I Dear editor,

T was nearly a miracle and virtually unheard of for the United Party for National Development (UPND) to gather the zeal and putting their political goals aside and join the nation in celebrating the youth day in unanimity.

As strange as it may sound, the perpetual defiant members of the UPND suddenly made their sudden appearance in Kitwe against the earlier guidance given to them to stay away owing to the measures put in place to prevent the exponential spread of the Corona Virus of 2019 (COVID 19).

While their attendance was disguised as an act of patriotism, it later on turned into dramatic event after their real intention was unmasked when the police attempted to step in to regulate the procession that they were conducting.

The nation is well informed that the opposition UPND under the tenure of the most rejected 5 time losing Presidential candidate Mr Hakahinde Hichilema has always not shown any

interest in attending national events thereby making their appearance in Kitwe highly questionable. While they had an opportunity to demostrate that they are a peace loving organization, it is regrettable that their showing up in Kitwe could not be complete without drama. It was an abuse of the unifying Youth Day commemoration to advance their narrow partisan motives.

The rebellious attitude by UPND cadres against the institutions of Government especially those charged with the responsibility to enforce law and order is highly irresponsible and hypocritical.

On one hand, they have been claiming that police are acting unfairly yet they use the so called conditions by assaulting them on camera.

Their deeds are a mismatch to

their claims.

Worse still, the rebellion left one officer of the law, a senior officer for that matter struggling to escape the jaws of the abusive cadres and unfortunately the poor police officer was filmed falling from the moving vehicle as officers sped off to seek refuge to the safe haven. We don’t know if that physical abuse of the UPND cadres towards police officers is what they call sympathy.

It was unacceptable for the UPND to reduce the highly dignified and significant youth day to the level of a party function.

We have also had an opportunity to view the video footages in the Youth Day commemoration conducted in other places. The motive was clear, their participation was to parade cadres above 35

years to champion their political six pack.

Elsewhere in Lusaka, whilst the President was addressing was addressin a sizeable gathering that attended the event, various opportunities and empowerment programs were announced. This is what every patriotic youth expected to use the day to identify the available opportunity. We believe the youths that opted to use the gathering to create despondency or test their ability to rebel against their perceived political foes misused the forum. They missed a golden opportunity which would have provided a platform to tap into the various opportunities available for a youthful population.

The event took place in Kitwe during Youth Day commemoration should not repeat itself in future as well head toward elections. The police must use it as an opportunity to come up with preventive measures and more importantly enhance their surveillance to gather intelligence information to prevent similar occurrences.

OPINION STOP Political Intolerance, Supporting A Political Party Has Nothing To Do With Intellectual Ability.

Unfortunately to state, many UPND cadres lack the ability to accept that the UPND is not as big as the 2015 and 2016 elections portrayed it to be. It's a small regional party that has benefitted from the recent Patriotic Front infighting and what we may call "perceived incompetence of the current regime" that the party can even be the second largest political party in the country behind the ruling Patriotic Front. Seriously speaking, how do you have MPs mainly from three provinces in a vast country of ten provinces and expect to form government? Even in the unlikely event that Mr. Hichilema won the presidency, how would he manage Parliament with the majority of MPs being in opposition?

Surprisingly, according to most UPND cadres, only fools support the Patriotic Front and yet the other way round, under normal circumstances, should be the case because the possibility of the UPND ever forming government is close to nil and yet, not once but several times, they have cast their votes on the ever losing political party. To the contrary, Patriotic Front cadres tend to respect every Zambian's right to choose one's political party of choice and rarely do they insult UPND cadres for belonging to a losing party.

Truth be told guys, spare us your political bitterness by choosing your parties wisely ahead of the 2021 general elections. We only have one Zambia. If you seriously can't stand losing elections at the presidential level, please join the Patriotic Front because we all know that not even an Opposition Alliance could successfully work against the Patriotic Front. If the adoptions are properly done, no opposition political party can beat the Patriotic Front. If anything, the only thing that can unsit the Patriotic Front is a national movement which is nonexistent at the moment.

Several times, we have pointed out wrongs in the Edgar Lungu led PF Government and often times, the administration has corrected the wrongs quietly without resorting to name calling or defensive political rhetoric. This is impossible with the UPND which believes that it's always right. When carefully analysed, one soon realises that their arrogance stems from the inferiority complex of the party with its leadership feeding its mostly less exposed following with the poison that the party and its people are marginalised in the country.

But far from it, noone in Zambia is marginalised. If anything, regional differences only exist in politics because of some selfish leaders at the helm of our political parties. It is for this reason that we have been advocating for a no party governance system that must prioritize development over political power. These artificial conflicts are all perpetrated by political leaders who can't challenge their opponents at the level of developmental debates. Realising that they have nothing to offer but still want power, they can do anything and care less whether blood is shed in the process. The only cure for this cancer is revisiting the Choma Declaration. Zambians must familiarize themselves with what truly led to the drafting and signing of the Choma Declaration.

In 2019, I shared an article in which I reminded the nation that those calling Paul Kagame's Rwanda authoritarian have no discipline to live and appreciate Rwanda's house rules, just like an indisciplined child sees a right parent authoritarian. Even Lucipher rose against what he termed an authoritarian God. He wanted his own roof not that God was bad.

Similarly, the opposition leaders in Zambia today are not in politics to fight Edgar Lungu because he is not able to provide for an ordinary child in rural Zambia but because, like in the case of satan, they want Edgar Lungu’s seat.

Regime change for the sake of it is their priority. I wondered then and I still do whether one can seriously believe Hon. Harry Kalaba resigned because of corruption in the Patriotic Front when he could single handedly allow mining in the Lower Zambezi National Park against the professional advice of ZEMA and several other competent institutions or that Mr. Hichilema believed himself when he was calling the then Defense Minister GBM a corrupt man only to appoint him VP as soon as he left the Patriotic Front government.

Let's open our minds and see the world as it really is, not what we are being made to believe by those who need our votes. Aren't we all looking up to China and for the right reasons? No one is discussing the authoritarian China it ought to be but the future we can all relate to, where technology breeds solutions. But I keep posing this question, why are we borrowing money from this country that makes money out of our raw materials such as mukula and copper? Well, China put its house in order first just like a responsible husband and father will not give chance to his wife and children to recognize another man outside of his home as their source of livelihood. Allow me to quote Paul Kagame...

"We need to mobilise the right mindsets, rather than more funding. After all, in Africa, we have everything we need, in real terms. Whatever is lacking, we have the means to acquire. And yet we remain mentally married to the idea that nothing can get moving, without external finance. We are even begging for things we already have. That is absolutely a failure of mindset."

Decisions have to be made, some of them too bitter to our liking but we must accept that the current political system was designed by a thinking mind to yoke Africa with perpetual poverty. Let's put our house in order as well by seriously considering our own governance system that must prioritize development over political power. Why should we spend more time and resources on elections than on issues that literally bring food to the table? As we campaign, how many people are conscious of the plight of those in our health facilities that have no medical supplies or children in rural Zambia that will never see the inside of a classroom?

It's just that we have been brainwashed into thinking we know what we are doing but we are not any different from a happy mad man sitting on a rubbish dump. We have reduced ourselves to fighting each other for seats on a destinationless train and everyone is OK with it. The current regional multiparty political system cannot bring development to Zambia. We need a well thought out NO party participatory democracy which can prioritize education, agriculture, technology, and all that matters to attain first world status. We need to rethink our political system if it's development we need.

Minerals, agricultural products, oil, you name it, is all present in Africa.

The world, literally, runs on the produce of Africa, yet on the ground people starve, live on assistance from rich nations, endure war and corruption and, worse off, Africans hardly even use any of the things they produce. Take, for instance, the cocoa and chocolate industries. Even though Africa produces 75 percent of all the cocoa in the world, the continent gets only 2 percent of the $100 billion revenue from the chocolate industry. How much does our debt ridden Zambia get from the tens of billions of dollars of its copper exports annually?

Paul Kagame remains my hero not because I support suppression of dissenting views as he is portrayed but because I care more about wealth creation for Africa's future generations and that is what he is doing in Rwanda while we promote anarchy in Zambia, even opposing the Cybersecurity Bill because we understand our political campaigns are based on deception. Call it brutality but out of the same condemned brutality, came the cash Africa is borrowing from China after being made broke by western democracies. We are a special kind of intelligent people. Let's respect our diverse political views but place the needs of Zambia before those of our political leaders.

Don’t expect alliance with UPND

By CHARLES MUSONDA OPPOSITION political parties have been cautioned against expecting a formidable alliance with the United Party for National Development (UPND) as long as its leader Hakainde Hichilema remains at the helm.

In an interview yesterday, New Congress Party (NCP) president Peter Chanda said the crumbled alliance between the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and UPND is a clear example that the latter does not mean well for fellow opposition political parties.

Mr. Chanda said since 2006 the UPND has been attempting to form alliances with other parties but its main aim is to ruin others.

He said the Forum for Democracy and Development (FDD) was a formidable party before it went into an alliance with the UPND and UNIP in the 2006 elections but it has now remained with only one member of Parliament Given Katuta of Chienge.

He said the latest development is that UPND wanted to swallow the NDC and other parties the moment they formed their failed alliance.

Mr. Chanda said the UPND’s insincerity causes all the alliances it forms with other parties to fail because of Mr. Hichilema’s alleged greed for power.

“We are happy to note that the late Michael Chilufya Sata washed himself off the UPND alliance with the Patriotic Front (PF) and formed government in 2011. My caution to other political players is that as long as Hakainde Hichilema remains at the helm of the UPND you cannot expect any formidable alliance.

“This is because the man is self centred and he always wants everyone to obey whatever he says and does. My take to other political leaders is that be careful with how you deal with this man because he has no loyalty to anybody else apart from himself,” Mr. Chanda said.

He said there is no alliance that will work between the UPND and other political parties and this the reason the NCP chose to work with the ruling PF.

HE World Association of News Publishers (WANIFRA) has launched the 2021 Leadership Accelerator Cohort for 92 female African journalists.

The 92 journalists were selected to go through the programme out of about 500 applicants across the continent.

The programme which commenced on March 12, 2021 is expected to run up to November 19, this year.

WAN-IFRA is a global trade organisation with a human rights mandate and represents more than 3000 media and

industry partners in more than 30 countries around the world.

WAN-IFRA's programmes support innovation, sustainability, media development and press freedom in the media industry.

Organisation Executive Director, Melanie Walker, said

that the media was the lens through which society saw itself reflected, hence, the need to invest much in the effort to balance the scales in the industry. She said this in her opening remarks during the online launch.

was the trusted source for information and platform for debate in most societies the reason she said made the industry a unique place to influence positive change. She however said that if women were excluded from the editorial and management decisions around

"The industry still has a long way to go when it comes to giving an equal platform to, and representing, women.

"On average, women are cited as expert sources, appear in bylines, or are featured as subjects in the news just over 25% of the time, despite making up more than half the global population," Ms Walker said.

Improved cassava variety rolled out

By BUUMBA CHIMBULU ADVANCED technology producing improved variety of cassava has been rolled out on the market as demand for the crop increases.

Various companies are interested in the commodity to produce starch for the mining industry and ethanol for export.

The technology rolled out by the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) produces breeds tolerant to climate change and has higher yields with a year of maturing.

IITA Zambia Director, David Chikoye, explained that the improved variety only about a year to mature and produce planting materials unlike the conversational routes using a stem which took two years.

Dr Chikoye said the improved variety enabled a farmer to plant 16 hectares of cassava with a one year planting lets.

He was speaking recently in an interview on the side-lines of the agriculture expo held at the Zambia Agriculture Research Institute (ZARI) in Chilanga.

“What IITA is trying to do is to look at ways we can enhance ways of planting materials and we are working with the youth for starters to be the ones driving the process forward “We have come up with a technology. What we do is that we produce more plant lets and then they are grown under specific conditions and then eventually they grow into conventional planting materials, but the advantage with this process is that it is shorter,” Dr Chikoye said.

IITA, he explained, tried to breed varieties tolerant to climate change.

Dr Chikoye said: “These days, droughts is a problem, we have lots of strange diseases affecting the crops, and we develop materials which are tolerant to the prevailing growing constraints like water deficit and diseases.

Blood donation peaks in Kitwe

By SANFROSSA MANYINDA SOME residents of Kitwe have started volunteering to donate blood at the Copperbelt Blood Transfusion Centre so that they could he given refreshments and a packet of sugar.

The donors are in every case given a soft drink and a pint of milk to take immediately after the donation and a one Kilogramme of sugar to take home with.

A check by the Daily Nation at the centre within the Kitwe Teaching Hospital (KTH)) premises found volunteers, mostly females, donating blood.

The centre which stocks about 2000 units supplies different types of blood to all the hospitals in the province whether public or private.

According to an expert who opted to remain anonymous at the centre, all the blood groups are important that is why there has been a demand for the commodity was always high.

She however said that the centre had enough blood and that the volunteer donors had greatly contributed to the cause.

She said that the demand for blood became high in the festive season when the country gets to record a high number of road traffic accidents and casualties such as assault cases among others.

The expert added that the emerging of the Covid-19 pandemic had made the donation a bit difficult because the centre members no longer go to the main pools which are schools for collection.

She said that the centre was now depending on volunteers, family members of certain patients and community collection as well as camping initiatives.

Mr Kabamba said the training and successful certification of 34 saw milling companies registered with ZAFFICO would open more

opportunities and expand growth in their business.

He commended the Finnish and Zambian Government through the AGS for empowering the citizenry in business knowledge to enable them manage their businesses in a more effective manner and

maximise profits.

"My appeal to these successful saw millers who are now trained entrepreneurs is to seize various opportunities so that they do not get stuck or stranded when their sector is faced by any challenges," Mr Kabamba said.

Earlier, AGS consultant Mwansa Chabala said the aim of the programme was to train and improve the operations of the small and medium entrepreneurs so that they could be able to effectively manage their businesses He said it was a highly ambitious programme which embraces sectors of economy like agribusiness, renewable energy and others.

By JACKSON MAPAPAYI THE electorate should not to waste the time by voting for opposition political parties in the August 12 general elections, says PF Solwezi central aspiring candidate Jackson Kungo.

He said the last five years had been very wasteful in terms of development for the people of Solwezi as they have not been well represented by opposition representatives.

Mr Kungo, who is former PF North western provincial chairperson, said people should not make another mistake of voting for the opposition leaders.

"Look at how wasteful the last five years have been, all because people voted for the opposition civic leaders who do not want to associate themselves with Government. If we make the same mistake in August this year, we will continue crying even in the next five years," he said.

Mr Kungo said a lot of issues should be addressed in the constituency but that could only happen when people elected candidates that were able to lobby development for them from Government.

He said President Edgar Lungu is an inclusive leader in terms in his developmental agenda and thus representatives needed to engage him in addressing the challenges.

Mr Kungo was speaking when he addressed officials from all the seven wards as well as constituency and district executive committees.

And Mr Kungo has urged party members to go flat out and form more branches ahead of the August 12 polls.

He said this was the right time to get down to the grassroots and mobilise more voters.

"We don't have time to waste, let's get down to the grassroots and form more branches because we need more votes for president Edgar Lungu and party at large," he said.

VERY serious farmer be it a livestock or crop farmer are aware that diseases in whatever form have a negative effect on any production the farmer may venture in. therefore, it is important for all farmers to ensure that these destructive effects are checked at all costs.

Diseases in all forms are bad and when refer to poultry, when they strike they will kill young birds (chicks), if it is adult birds for example laying birds the number of eggs laid would reduce dramatically. Diseases would cause stunted growth in growing birds. And above all the farmer may and will lose money due to reduced pro-

duction. But then how does the farmer inherit these problems to do with diseases. These come through different ways, such as buying or ordering chicks from unreliable source. on the farm if birds from other poultry farms are allowed to enter the unit, diseases are expected to show up because the birds so introduced may be carriers of pathogens. When such birds mix with healthy hens then trouble is invited.

Visitors who are not known where they are coming from can be potential carriers of all sorts of diseases which can be on their hands, feet or even clothing. On the other angle life and living, by this I mean the rats or rodents, flies and the birds that traverse the country. These can also be carriers of diseases.

These can mix with healthy chickens that are in our care.

So disease introduction can be in so many ways. Equally.

On this our poultry farmers are actually warned.

Some farms and indeed some farmers have resorted to keeping local chickens on the same premises as commercial birds. This must be avoided at all costs. Local chickens carry diseases to which they are immune to. Commercial birds are fragile to such diseases.

Local breeds may look healthy; they may be disease carriers.

If keeping commercial birds always carry out the recommended vaccination program Visitors and non-essential workers in and around the farm must not be allowed into the poultry houses. In other words, bio-security must be adhered to.

Clean water must be available at all times in clean water troughs. Feed

• Coccidiosis, chicks and adult birds show symptoms of having blood stained diarrhea, feathers are ruffled and eyes are closed. Less feed is eaten and chicken grow thinner.

• Newcastle Disease, birds have yellowish diarrhea, birds eat less food but drink plenty of water many birds die within one day. Egg production is low.

• Fowl Cholera, birds have a yellowish or green diarrhea, a few birds die each day as compared with Newcastle.

• Fowl pox, watery discharges from the eyes and later yellowish pus may accumulate in the eyes, equally many sores on the head, comb and wattles.

In all such circumstances, if chicks or birds are sick this must be reported to the nearest veterinary staff.

In the pen remove the sick birds from the flock and isolate them and access to the houses must be restricted.

Avoid mixing sick birds with healthy birds.

Clinical signs sometimes may be deceiving, always contact veterinary officers for diagnosis. Advise is given an investigation. For sick birds must be killed and burned to avoid spreading of diseases to other birds.

PAKISTAN: Cotton yarn shortage hurting export orders LAHORE: Unavailability of cotton yarn and stuck duty and income tax refund claims are adversely impacting export growth, putting export orders worth millions of dollars at stake, say textile exporters.

They said the government must take immediate remedial measures as further delay would hurt industrialisation, halt export growth and lead to unmanageable unemployment levels.

Pakistan Textile Exporters Association (PTEA) Chairman Muhammad Ahmad on Thursday expressed grave concern over the cotton yarn crisis.

"Extreme shortage of cotton and an unprecedented hike in cotton yarn prices has almost

disrupted the export cycle and the textile industry has become economically unviable due to the escalating prices on the back of crop shortfall," he lamented.

Cotton production was set to drop to a historic low in the current season when demand was up by 13% and the textile sector was operating at full capacity after decades, he added.

With low production, the country needed to import cotton in an effort to bridge the demand-supply gap, said Ahmad.

Low cotton productivity and ban on cross-border cotton import has pushed up prices of cotton yarn and textile exporters are forced to pay higher prices for raw material.

He appreciated Prime Minister Imran Khan for taking serious notice of cotton shortage and allowing import from Afghanistan and Central Asian states via Torkham land route.

However, he considered it insufficient for meeting the apparel industry’s raw material needs as yarn import from Central Asian countries was not only expensive but would also take one to two months to reach Pakistan.

MULUNGUSHI TEXTILES WILL HAVE ENOUGH COTTON - PS W

E anticipate a good yield for cotton production from the farmers we engaged to supplied to Mulungushi Textiles as raw material, Central province Permanent Secretary, Bernard Chitambo has said.

The provincial administration working with the Ministry of Defence engaged 1, 420 farmers to produce cotton and were given 100 tons free seed along with chemicals.

Mr Chomba said in an interview that good yield was anticipated in the province especially in Serenje, Mkushi, Chisamba and Kabwe dis-

tricts.

He however explained that the coming of new machinery to be installed in Kabwe at the factory had been delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Mr Chomba stated that acquisition of loan by the equity partners in China had delayed because it was badly hit with the pandemic.

He stated that the Wuhan Municipal Council which was loan facilitator has had challenges to sources for finances after being badly affected with COVID-19.

BY SILUMESI MALUMO OVER 260 farms and six school structures in Luangwa district have been submerged following the backflow of water in the Kafue River.

The flooding situation has also affected the central business district making it hard for people to conduct business.

Speaking when he toured the area, Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit-DMMU National Coordinator Chanda Kabwe described the situation as unfortunate, saying government will do everything possible to help the affected people.

Mr Kabwe observed that the flooding of the farms may result in the area to experience food insecurity which might require gov-

ernment to provide relief food support.

The National Coordinator said his office will make available relief food to all the affected people.

He said he will also engage the Ministry of Agriculture to find ways of helping the affected farmers in Luangwa.

Mr Kabwe also said he will further engage the Ministry of General Education on the possibilities of suspending classes in the schools that are affected in order to secure the lives of children.

He said this is because, the Kafue River is crocodile infested and anyone can be attacked anytime.

Mr Kabwe appealed to the people to avoid conducting business near the river banks to avoid crocodile attacks.

And to the affected marketeers, Mr Kabwe assured them of empowerment so that they can resuscitate their businesses.

Meanwhile Luangwa District Commissioner Julius Sikasote said there is need for quick intervention in addressing the matter before lives are lost.

Mr. Sikasote said the district administration cannot operate at the moment because the roads are also flooded.

He called on DMMU to urgently find ways to take out the water in order to retain normalcy.

And Monica Phiri a Maketeer called on government to help them with capital as all their items were swept away by water.

She said most maketeers lost all their merchandise in the floods which she said if not addressed will increase the poverty levels in the district.

OVERNMENT’S desire of diversifying the economy can only be realised if inputs are delivered to farmers early, Kasempa District Administrative Officer Tulani Mwiya has said.

Mr Mwiya said Government had been keen on diversifying the economy, hence the need to supply agriculture inputs early.

He was speaking in Kasempa at the weekend when Nyimba Investments officials paid a courtesy call on him.

Nyimba Investments officials were led by HeadSales and Market Manager Willings Mulendema, who was also inspecting how the

fertilisers distributed by the company were used.

Mr Mwiya said he was happy that during the 2019/20 farming season, Nyimba was able to supply fertiliser early and the good gesture was worth emulating during this season.

“President Lungu has been eager to diversify the economy and it is important that companies like Nyimba supplied inputs early. You did it during the previous season and our prayer is that this season you should do the same,” Mr Mwiya said.

He said that despite the floods that some parts of Kasempa faced, he was optimistic that the area would be able to record bumper harvest.

The bumper harvest, he

said, would mainly be on account of the timely delivery of inputs by Nyimba Investments.

“The distribution in the previous season was very nice and despite the challenges of floods that some parts of Kasempa faced, we are sure that the area would be able to have a bumper harvest,” he said.

And Kasempa District Agriculture Coordinator(DACO) Joseph Masuwa said that the district has 14,000 beneficiaries under FISP and were able to receive the inputs in good time.

As a result, he said, the farmers would be able to record a bumper harvest.

Mr Masuwa said farmers in Kasempa were able to receive inputs by 31 August way ahead of the planting

season.

“Nyimba was contracted to supply and they did a commendable job. They did bring the inputs by August 31 and by November 15 2020 we had completed distributing to all parts of Kasempa. With the good distribution, we are certain that we will have a bumper harvest,” said Mr Masuwa.

And a small scale farmer Cherry Josiah said owing to the early delivery of input, she was confident that she would have a bumper harvest and be able to sell the produce.

Ms Josiah said despite the high poverty levels in the country, she was still able to send her children to school because of the extra income earned from selling the extra produce.

Strengthening food systems must be at the centre of Africa’s Coronavirus recovery, says African Development Bank Strengthening food systems must be an integral part of efforts to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic and to build resilience in Africa, said African Development Bank Director General for Southern Africa, Leila Mokaddem.

Hunger is a greater threat to many Africans than the COVID-19 crisis, Mokaddem said in a session on sustainable food systems at the Southern Africa Impact Forum on 9 March.

“Africa must now urgently strengthen its food systems as an integral part of efforts to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic and to build resilience,” she said.

Mokaddem outlined four areas in which the Bank is working in partnerships to drive the food sector’s transformation: sustainably intensify the production of safe and nutritious food to meet demand; careful management of land, soils, and water; increasing the contribution of local food producers and suppliers and reduction of post-harvest losses; and harnessing digital technologies to develop and drive food systems transformation.

Chieftainess Nkhomesha protests diversion of water by commercial farmers A TRADITIONAL Leader has appealed to the Water Resources Management Authority (WARMA) to curb the rampant and unfair usage of water by commercial farmers in Chongwe District and surrounding areas.

Chieftainess Nkomesha Mukamambo (II) of the Busoli Royal Establishment of Chongwe, said the unfair usage of water by commercial farmers is creating water shortages and disadvantaging local people.

The traditional leader urged WARMA to enforce her mandate and regulate and safeguard water resources in the country to equally benefit both local people and commercial users.

Chieftainess Nkomesha said this when WARMA officials led by Director General, Kenneth Nyundu paid a courtesy call on her at her Makuyu palace in Chongwe District.

“We want to work with WARMA in resolving water resources challenges in the chiefdom which have been disadvantaging our local people in having adequate access to water resources at all levels,” said Chieftainess Nkomesha.

“We further need the Authority’s assistance in curbing unfair practices in utilization of the resource which is very rampant among commercial farmers and further creates an equal sharing of this precious resource at both commercial and domestic levels,” said the traditional leader.

In a press statement issued to ZANIS in Lusaka, WARMA Public Relations Officer, Joshua Kapila, and Chieftainess Nkomesha urged the water regulator to embark on a rapid water assessment project to quickly help resolve the water challenges in her chiefdom.

She urged WARMA to en-

gage the local people who have been facing challenges in accessing water resources in the chiefdom.

And WARMA Director General, Kenneth Nyundu assured Chieftainess Nkomesha that the Rapid Water Assessment exercise to be implemented in her Chiefdom will help mitigate the water shortages and challenges in her chiefdom.

How technology has revolutionised entertainment in Africa ENTERTAINMENT is a powerful form of escapism. To many, it is the medium of choice to unwind after the day’s activities. Some view it as a means to forget, albeit temporarily, the undesirable realities of life; while others wield it as a tool to influence and control the narrative.

I still remember those days in the late 80s when Nollywood made films into cassette tapes and/or VHS. Back then, I also remember that video clubs were the places to be if you had a hunger for new movie releases. Funnily, as with other popular trends, cassettes and videotapes transitioned into digital versatile discs (DVDs) by 2008, and yet more changes were still underway.

Despite the proliferation of CDs and DVDs at the time, the emergence of satellite TV compelled

a number of Nigerians to seek entertainment from such services. Today, these services and the like are given a run for their money with the advent of online entertainment.

By briefly tracing the evolution of entertainment content format in Nigeria, I have simply demonstrated how technology provides user control as well as a wide array of choices customers may pick from.

With that backdrop, let’s take a dive into the media industry to see how innovation and disruption are currently revamping the space.

In recent times, there’s been a paradigm shift such that streaming media has become the rage.

Mulenga who over the years has worked with different people and groups within his circles to find ways and means to mitigate challenges faced by people living with disabilities says he is using his music talent to prove that disability is not inability.

"I venture in various advocacy programmes to share my experiences and help the disabled find space in various aspects of life," he says.

"For this reason, I have compiled a music album titled 'Ipepo Lyalikwata

Amaka ' which I intentionally want to use to spread messages of hope and love for disadvantaged people in society."

THE UNPRECEDENTED EMPOWEMENT OF YOUTHS WITH 50 FUEL TANKERS

I wish to encourage the youths to seize the empowerment effort which has been given to them, raise to the occasion and demonstrate responsibility so that other youths can benefit from similar empowerment activities as well.

HIS year’s Youth Day was witnessed by what has never been seen before. President Edgar Lungu handed over 50 fuel tankers to different youth cooperative groups. This landmark empowerment to the youth is unprecedented in that it has never happened before in the oil industry and the country as a whole.

With a national monthly fuel consumption in the range of 130 million litres, Zambia’s fuel consumption per year is in the range of 1.4 Billion litres or 1,400,000 tonnes approximately. On average, the transport cost from Beira, Mozambique is about USD 140 per tonne.

They should avoid the temptation of cutting corners and fall in the quick money syndrome. They have to build a big picture mindset and focus on the long

term and leverage their energies. Perseverance is the secret behind a successful business. And there is no teacher who can ever teach you how to run your business better than your business itself. In other words, your business is your best teacher. You learn a lot of practical business lessons from running a business.

In the same vein, I wish to encourage the empowered youths to join the relevant transport association which deals with fuel transportation so that they can bench mark against best practice and learn how fuel transportation business is run.

Washington had tried to reach Pyongyang in several different ways to prevent tensions escalating, officials said.

Three meetings between Mr Biden's predecessor and North Korea's Kim Jong-un achieved little.

Mr Biden has already announced a policy review on North Korea, which is expected to be unveiled in April.

He has called Mr Kim a thug and stressed the need for North Korean nuclear disarmament before heavy US and UN economic sanctions can be eased.

The North Korean leader has continued to emphasise his country’s military capability, claiming the development of more accurate long-range missiles, super large warheads, spy satellites and a nuclear-powered submarine.

Covid-19: Ireland suspends use of Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine THERE is no indication that the Oxford-AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine is linked to an increased risk of blood clots, the EU’s medicines regulator says.

It said the number of cases in vaccinated people was no higher than in the general population.

The statement came after a number of countries, including Denmark and Norway, suspended the use of the jab.

The suspension followed reports that a small number of people had developed clots after receiving the vaccine.

There were also reports that a 50-year-old man had died in Italy after developing deep vein thrombosis (DVT) following a dose of the jab.

“There is currently no indication that vaccination has caused these conditions, which are not listed as side effects with this vaccine,” the European Medicines Agency (EMA) said on Thursday.

“The vaccine’s benefits continue to outweigh its risks and the vaccine can continue to be administered while investigation of cases of thromboembolic events is ongoing,” it added.

It said there had been 30 cases of “thromboembolic events” among the five million Europeans who have received the jab.

AstraZeneca said the drug’s safety had been studied extensively in clinical trials. “Regulators have clear and stringent efficacy and safety standards for the approval of any new medicine,” a spokesperson said.

In the UK, the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) said there was no evidence the vaccine had caused problems, and people should still go and get vaccinated when asked to do so. “Blood clots can occur naturally and are not uncommon. More than 11 million doses of the Covid-19 AstraZeneca vaccine have now been administered across the UK,” said Phil Bryan of the MHRA. The decision to temporarily suspend the use of AstraZeneca’s jab has come as a setback for a European vaccination campaign that has stuttered into life, partly due to delays in delivery of the drug. - BBC

This was the third workshop in a series of workshop ACB planned for the media in an effort to woo the support of jounalists in tackling corruption and bribery.

The first workshop was conducted on 22 September 2020 at Mt. Soche hotel in Blantyre and was graced by the Minister of Information Gospel Kazako, and the second was held in Lilongwe on 10th March 2021.
