Pizza 101 South
Pizza 101 South is the winner of two Best of the Parkland awards: Best Pizza and Finalist for Salad. This is the business’s third consecutive year for winning Best Pizza.
The business is located in world-famous Bonne Terre. It is housed in a building that is more than 130 years old and was formerly occupied by Polites Tavern and Rugs Bar and Grill.
After the building was remodeled, Pizza 101 South opened in December 2019 by Dustin Gerstenschlager. Paige Prasuhn and Cody Helm manage the restaurant.
Customers enjoy pizza, pasta, salads and more at Pizza 101 South. The brand-new options are espressos and cappuccinos.
As for pizza, they can order specialty pies or build-their-own tasty creations.
“Absolutely hands down, we have the best pizza around,” said Gerstenschlager. “Our food sells itself.”
Currently, the top-selling items at Pizza 101 South include the world-famous garlic cheese bread; the Total Package, a supreme pizza; and the Carnivore, a meat lover’s pizza.
Gerstenschlager said the quality of the restaurant’s food is the most important thing. Their dough, sauces and toppings are prepared fresh daily and made in-house with their own recipes.
“No ingredient comes through the door without me personally tasting it,” he said.
He added that their wood-fired oven, combined with fresh ingredients and an outstanding staff with excellent customer service, are what sets them apart from their competition.
“You can build your own pizza, pasta, wings and salads,” he said. “If you can dream it up from any combination of our list of toppings and sauces, we can make it for you.”
