A UI students’ guide to the best places to on campus

Students can study in any building across campus, adventure to one of three libraries, or head downtown to a cafe. Many students work on and off-campus as they pursue their degrees at the University of Iowa.

The UI o ers many di erent study locations, both on and o -campus. When looking for a good place to study on campus there are a few things to take into consideration. Each residence hall comes equipped with di erent study rooms and multipurpose rooms, lounges, etc., but it is fun to explore campus and find other locations just outside your dorm to get stu done.

Best outdoor study locations:

• The Pentacrest: many students like to hang hammocks, lounge, and do some reading on a nice day. • Art Building West: both the outdoor and indoor seating have a great view.

• Outside River Room Cafe on the Iowa River, behind the

Iowa Memorial Union: the cafe o ers pasta, stir fry, breakfast burritos, and other food items depending on the day.

Quiet Study Locations:

• The Main Library, floors two and above • Learning commons in the Iowa Memorial Union • Private study rooms in the main library • River Room Cafe • Iowa Memorial Union Commons • The Hawkeye room in the Iowa Memorial Union • The first floor of the library has the Food for Thought Cafe, inside Group Area C

The best part about the UI is that it isn’t just closed o to campus alone. Downtown Iowa City is full of many di erent cafes and locations that are open for students to do their work.

• The Adler Journalism and Mass Communications Building: The Rotunda • The Tippie College of Business: The Business Hub • The Pomerantz Center • The Voxman Music Building • The Chemistry Building • The Biology Building • The Becker Communication Studies Building • The English and Philosophy Building

Where to find employment opportunities

Being employed on campus has financial and academic benefits for Hawkeyes. Students at the University of Iowa who are employed statistically have higher GPAs and are more likely not to drop out and graduate on time, according to University Human Resources. Student jobs provide chances to connect with faculty, sta , and other students, some who may be outside their field of study. Students practice good time management balancing a work life with school, along with other valuable skills that aid in finding employment after graduation. Students have the opportunity to work at a variety of locations and programs on campus, including the university’s: • University Housing & Dining • Recreational Services • UI Main Library • Student Health • Iowa Memorial Union • CAMBUS

The UI isn't limited to just the Main Library. There’s also the Law and the Science Library that are located on campus. Looking for a snack or lunch break in the middle of your studies? The UI campus has locations where you can grab a bite to eat while you continue your studies such as: It is important to try many di erent locations and decide what is best fitted and the best environment for each student. Students will study across campus no matter when and where. You name it, you can study there. But at the end of the day, find what location is best suitable for you.
