Daybreak introduced this idea to the Valley. Now it’s upping its game.

Two decades ago Daybreak began as a big promise.
A promise to serve up all the elements of life within a short 5-minute walk or bike ride of home — food, outdoor concerts, good schools, workplaces, parks, a big lake and all kinds of fun. Now, under the stewardship of Larry H. Miller Real Estate, Daybreak is delivering the goods in ways nobody could have imagined.

Cottonwood Heights continues to invest in the long-term success of its business community through strategic development, infrastructure improvements, and signature community events that strengthen connections between residents, visitors, and local businesses. As the city looks ahead, several major initiatives and traditions play a central role in shaping economic growth and enhancing local quality of life.

One of the most significant upcoming projects is the development of the new Cottonwood Heights Town Center. Designed as a walkable and mixed-use gathering place, the Town Center will serve as a central hub for retail, dining, office, residential, and community activity. This transformative project creates a true heart of the city, offering new opportunities for businesses to establish storefronts in a highly visible and pedestrianoriented district. With thoughtful design, improved mobility, and active public spaces, the Town Center will become a key economic engine that supports local entrepreneurship, attracts investment, and provides a vibrant destination for residents and visitors.
In addition to the Town Center, Cottonwood Heights is planning and implementing corridor upgrades and mobility improvements that support commercial districts across the city. These projects aim to enhance walkability, modernize infrastructure, improve safety, and make commercial areas more accessible. By continuing to invest in transportation networks, streetscapes, and long-term land use planning, the city ensures that businesses remain easy to reach and well positioned to grow.
Community events also play an important role in the City’s economic vitality. Signature annual traditions bring thousands of people into Cottonwood Heights, creating valuable visibility and activity for local businesses. Butlerville Days, the city’s largest community celebration, brings together families, vendors, sponsors, and local organizations each July. With its parade, fireworks, booths, entertainment, and food options, the event strengthens community pride and gives businesses a chance to connect directly with residents.
The city’s Trunk or Treat celebration each October has also become one of the most attended family events in Cottonwood Heights. Local businesses participate by hosting decorated trunks, providing treats, and engaging with families in a fun and safe environment. The event offers a meaningful outreach opportunity while supporting a beloved community tradition.
During the holiday season, the Sub for Santa program reflects the city’s commitment to supporting families in need while strengthening community ties. Businesses often contribute through donations, partnerships, and volunteer efforts, helping ensure that local families receive clothing, essential items, and gifts. This initiative highlights the generous spirit of the Cottonwood Heights business community and reinforces the city’s mission to support residents throughout the year.
As Cottonwood Heights moves forward, its focus remains centered on creating a business environment defined by opportunity, communication, and collaboration. From major development projects like the Town Center to the community traditions that bring people together, the city is committed to building a thriving economic future that benefits both businesses and residents. Through strong planning and meaningful engagement, Cottonwood Heights continues to grow as a vibrant place to live, work, and do business.

Entrepreneurial spirit flourished early in Draper’s history as the town became known as the “Egg Basket of Utah” in the 1940s for its prolific poultry farms, ultimately gaining national prominence when eggs from Draper were marketed from coast to coast. Draper even furnished most of the eggs for the military troops in the South Pacific during World War II. After the decline of the poultry industry in the late 1950s, Draper’s population continued to grow, and new business minds brought ventures to fit the community’s needs.
Draper’s ideal location at the south end of Salt Lake County and the north end of Utah County, adjacent to Silicon Slopes, makes it a perfect economic hub. Today, the city is home to over 2,600 registered businesses, and it continues to grow. The growth has been managed well to create a healthy environment and desirable lifestyle, with preservation being a consistent area of focus.
With over 5,000 acres of open space and 117 miles of scenic trails, Draper’s mountain areas offer access to wilderness and spectacular vistas overlooking both the Salt Lake Valley and Utah Lake. Living and working in Draper is a healthy life balance: safe, peaceful neighborhoods combined with easy access to nature and a sophisticated metropolitan atmosphere.
We welcome those looking to invest in our community and know that you will be proud to call Draper home.
Mayor Troy K. Walker

Opportunities for the community to gather are important to Draper City. Our annual summer festival, Draper Days, attracts 30,000 to 40,000 people for the week-long celebration. Other recurring events include the Corner Canyon Half Marathon/10K/5K, the Holiday Market, the International Arts & Crafts Festival, the Cinco de Mayo Festival, Concerts in the Park, the Haunted Trail, the Tree Lighting Ceremony, and more!
The business community is a welcome partner at city events. It is a great opportunity to mingle with residents and visitors

The Point consists of 600 acres of state-owned land in Draper at the Point of the Mountain that is being built into Utah’s Innovation Community. The new community will foster innovation and technological advancement, provide parks and open space, support economic opportunity, and enhance Utahns’ quality of life.
The first phase of development is located at the heart of the site. It includes a pedestrian-priority area, a Central Green, regional trail connections, transit-oriented development, a balanced mix of jobs, housing, retail, shopping and entertainment, and so much more.
Phase one of construction is underway, adding critical backbone infrastructure that will lay the groundwork for future development. Major infrastructure projects will extend Porter Rockwell Boulevard and planned transit service through the site and construct most of the “Riverto-Range” regional trail system.
Vertical construction is expected to begin in 2026. Keep an eye on The Point! Visit ThePointUtah.org.
A tip of the hat to two longstanding Draper restaurants that have retired from the community: Ballard’s Iceberg Drive-In and Guadalahonky’s, both familiar landmarks on 12300 South.
Ballard’s Iceberg Drive-In was in business for an incredible 65 years, established in 1960 by Allen and Alice Mae Ballard and carried on through the Ballard family to its last owner, Don Ballard.
Guadalahonky’s was opened in 1988 by Alan and Kristine Summerhays. After 38 years serving Draper, they have retired, and the restaurant was sold to Salsa Leedos/Sol Cantina.

Escape the hustle and bustle and immerse yourself in South Valley’s breathtaking outdoors.
Of course, it wouldn’t be a trip to Utah in the winter without hitting the slopes and shredding some of our world-famous powder after one of our many snowfalls between late November and early March. However, guests do not have to venture as far up the canyon as Park City to enjoy world-class slopes.
Just a short 18 miles up Little Cottonwood Canyon are two of Utah’s many amazing ski resorts: Alta and Snowbird. Both offer a wide variety of year-round options for the entire family. If you make a similar drive up Big Cottonwood Canyon, you’ll find the Brighton and Solitude resorts.
From April to November, there are very few places that offer gorgeous mountain views from the tee boxes like Utah does. With more than a dozen public courses scattered throughout the Salt Lake Valley, there’s a course for every level of golfer, each with its own unique view of the Wasatch Front.
The South Mountain Golf Course in Draper is situated
on a hillside at the valley’s southernmost point. While the course can be challenging, its views overlooking the entire valley are unmatched. Other local courses are River Oaks Golf Course in Sandy, Riverbend Golf Course in Riverton and Glenmoor Golf Club in South Jordan, which hosted the 2023 American Junior Golf Association for one of its major events.
Speaking of breathtaking mountain views, sometimes the best way to enjoy them is to simply immerse oneself. Whether on bike or on foot, those seeking adventure through a deeper connection with nature are sure to find it in the South Valley along the Wasatch Front.
One of the most popular trails in the area is Hidden Valley Trail, which is located on the eastern side of Sandy. The trail offers a family-friendly hike filled with wildlife and beautiful surroundings. With parking located at the base of the hike, as well as bathrooms and tables available for use, the hike offers a perfect family or group outing.

The South Valley Chamber works to make sure local businesses have a strong voice in important government and community issues. Through our advocacy programs, we help members stay informed, connect with elected leaders, and understand how new policies may affect their businesses. From candidate events to expert-led discussions and roundtable meetings, these programs give business owners clear, useful information and meaningful chances to speak directly with decision-makers.
The South Valley Chamber’s Government Affairs and Public Policy Committee is dedicated to examining, shaping, and influencing public policy across a wide range of business-related issues. The committee provides informed recommendations and strategic insights that help guide legislative priorities and promote a strong, pro-business climate in Utah. Its responsibilities include:
• Building relationships with local, state, and federal elected officials.
• Recommending new policies or updates to existing positions to ensure the Chamber’s stance reflects changing conditions and remains a proactive voice for the business community.
• Providing advice, guidance, and resources to Chamber leadership and the broader business community.
• Collaborating with other chambers across the state to align priorities and support businessfriendly initiatives both locally and statewide.
“With all the growth and development in the South Valley, it is important for there to be a strong voice for business and government relations. The South Valley Chamber’s Government Affairs and Public Policy Committee gives the businesses and the cities that united voice.”
- Steve Foxley, VP, State Affairs, Regence BlueCross BlueShield of Utah, Co-Chair GA&PP Committee
During election season, our Meet the Candidate sessions provide a welcoming space for candidates to share their platforms directly with the community. Each moderated Q&A gives candidates a few minutes to respond to key questions, highlight their priorities, and demonstrate their commitment to addressing city needs. Afterward, residents have the opportunity to connect one-on-one with candidates, encouraging genuine conversation and understanding.

“As a city, we like to make sure that people know who is running for office, but at the same time we can’t be seen as campaigning for those who are running. Having the South Valley Chamber host a Meet the Candidates evening checked all the boxes for us and the candidates.”
- Kellie Challburg, Assistant City Manager, Draper City
In The Know helps business owners stay informed about the economic and policy issues shaping their world. We believe that effective business leaders are aware of the broader forces influencing their communities and industries. Each session features experts in fields like economics, government, and finance who break down complex topics and offer practical insights on how business leaders can adapt and prepare for what’s ahead.

In the Executive Forum events, top executives from Utah’s leading businesses are invited to engage with and learn from government officials and representatives. This year, Representative Steve Eliason and Senator Lincoln Fillmore shared their insights from the 2025 Legislative Session and what businesses needed to take away from the session. They covered key policy developments, including tax reforms, education funding, higher education oversight, and government efficiency.

To strengthen civic engagement, the Chamber hosts exclusive opportunities to meet with senior state and federal elected officials.
These meet & greets and roundtable discussions
give members direct access to policymakers, enabling productive conversations about challenges, opportunities, and priorities for the South Valley business community.

Small businesses are the backbone of our local economy, and each year we recognize one outstanding business at the Titan Awards.
Selected by our Executive Committee, the honoree exemplifies excellence, innovation, and community commitment. In 2025, we recognized Salt Mine Productive Workspace as the Small Business of the
Year. David Edmunds (Founder) and his team are dedicated to creating a collaborative environment where all businesses can thrive.
They use strategic hospitality to connect people in such a way as to delight, not distract and make coming to the workplace and hybrid work more benefit than burden.
The Titan Awards honor community leaders who exemplify vision, generosity, and impact. Each year, the Chamber celebrates individuals who have gone above and beyond to strengthen our business community and improve the lives of others.

This past year, we recognized Kristin and Jeremy Andrus of Traeger Grills, Amy Rees Anderson of REES Capital, and Katy Welkie of Intermountain Health and Primary Children’s Hospital

as the 2025 Titan Award recipients. More than 650 of Utah’s most influential leaders and companies gather to celebrate their inspiring achievements.
“It was humbling to be chosen to receive a South Valley Chamber Titan Award, especially knowing both the caliber of the individuals who selected me to receive the honor and the incredible individuals who have received this honor in the past. I feel honored to be included in the ranks of those who lift and inspire others. That’s truly the most meaningful recognition I could receive.”

Empowering small businesses is at the heart of the Comcast RISE initiative. Now in its fifth year, the program provides financial support, technology solutions, and creative services to help entrepreneurs grow and thrive.
This year, Comcast RISE awarded 100 grant packages to small businesses across Utah’s Wasatch Front, including several outstanding members of the South Valley Chamber. Those members include Stacey Van Roosendaal, Sunshine Lending Company; Monica Burby, owner/photographer, Photoumbra Studios; and Christy Butler, CEO of Modern + Chic Boutique.
Along with the other grant recipients, these businesses exemplify the entrepreneurial spirit that strengthens Utah’s economy and local communities.
“For small businesses, a $5,000 Comcast RISE grant and the added resources can be the game-changing boost that fuels growth, sparks innovation, and strengthens their impact in our community,” said Jay Francis, president & CEO of the South Valley Chamber of Commerce.
Stacey Van Roosendaal of Sunshine Lending Company said, “Being selected for the Comcast RISE grant was deeply affirming — it’s a reminder that heart-centered, small, local businesses matter. As a solopreneur, it’s easy to feel alone sometimes, so the support from Comcast RISE and the Chamber makes me feel seen, supported, and not alone in the work I’m doing for my community.”
“Being selected as a recipient of the 2025 Comcast RISE grant is both an honor and a meaningful validation of the work we do every day at Photoumbra Studios,” said Monica Burby, owner/photographer

at Photoumbra Studios “As a small business owner, it’s incredibly encouraging to know that organizations like Comcast recognize the dedication, creativity, and resilience it takes to grow and sustain a local business. The grant represents more than financial support, it’s a vote of confidence that reinforces our belief in the value we bring to our clients and our community. I’ve truly appreciated every aspect of the grant and have already seen meaningful growth and new opportunities emerge as a result.”
“We have already been able to utilize the technology updates and grant for the building of our first retail location in South Jordan and look forward to the opportunity to advertise with Comcast to reach an audience that we wouldn’t have been able to otherwise,” said Christy Butler, CEO of Modern + Chic Boutique.
Programs like Comcast RISE demonstrate how targeted support can create a ripple effect of economic growth. “Small businesses are the backbone of Utah’s economy,” said Deneiva Knight, external affairs director for Comcast’s Mountain West Region. “Through Comcast RISE, we’re proud to support the incredible entrepreneurs in our state who drive innovation, create jobs, and strengthen our communities.”
