An Alabama man accused in the robbery of the Renasant Bank branch in downtown Booneville along with three other similar robberies last year is scheduled to be arraigned today in federal court.
Booneville Police Chief Michael Ramey said Brian Perry Jones of Toney, Ala., was indicted last month on four federal counts in connection with the robberies. Court records show Jones was indicted in U.S. District Court in Oxford on four counts of bank robbery by force or
violence. The indictments are related to the Nov. 16 robbery of the Renasant Bank office on Market Street in downtown Booneville, along with the Aug. 16 robbery of the Renasant Bank on Constitution Drive in Iuka, the Sept. 21 robbery of the Renasant Bank branch on Veterans Drive in Tupelo and

Drama students at Corinth High School are working hard to prepare to compete in the State Theatre Festival, slated for Jan. 17-20. The CHS drama students will move on to the state festival after a successful run at the regional festival in Starkville in late November. The production they have staged for the regional competition and will bring to state is a play called “Slasrever Neves” (which is “Seven Reversals” spelled backward). Written by Alan Haehnel, “Slasrever Neves” is a fast-paced parody and exploration of reversals in seven short scenes — including a play that runs completely backward from end to beginning. CHS drama students will stage “Slasrever Neves” one last time before the competition at the CHS Auditorium on Monday beginning at 7 p.m. With seven scenes that each tell a different story, and a limited amount of props allowed for the competition, staging the play is a challenge. That’s where twin sisters (and CHS seniors) Morgan and Madison Wigginton come in. The Wigginton sisters are the “blockheads” for the production, in charge of creating and implementing a system of building the greatly varying scenery out of large square blocks — all painted differently on each side — that are disassembled and put back together between every scene. “There were so many scenes, we couldn’t take a bunch of different props, so we decid-

It was a challenge, the sisters
said, to get the blocks to do what was needed. It was like a puzzle, and they spent weeks just planning how the blocks would fit together before they even began building them.
What’s your problem? Evangelist speaker to share life’s story of challenges, triumphs with cerebral palsy BY STEVE BEAVERS sbeavers@dailycorinthian.com
David Ring has cerebral palsy. What’s your problem? The popular nationally known speaker has used the phrase since 1973 in sharing his story with more than 100,000 people a year at churches, schools and other events. Ring is scheduled to speak at First Baptist Church on Jan. 27 at 10:45 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. “He is really an inspiring speaker,” said Jackie Huskey with First Baptist Church. “I have heard him a couple of times, and his story is a challenging one.” Born Oct. 28, 1953, in Jonesboro, Ark., with cerebral palsy, Ring was orphaned at 14. Four Alcorn County residents are facing felony drug charges. According to Alcorn Narcotics Officer Darrell Hopkins, four people were arrested on Wednesday after information led narcotics officers to a residence on Madison Street. Byron Fabian Hicks Jr., 34, of North Madison Street, was charged with felony sale of marijuana. “Officers arrested Byron, and during the search found more marijuana on him,” said Hopkins. At another location officers from the Narcotics Unit arrested 21-year-old Glen resident Corie Lee Davis. Davis also faces charges for the felony sale of marijuana. Arrested also were Adam Hulsey, 27, of Jackson Street, and Jacklyn Jones, 22, of County Road 244, Glen. Both were charged with misdemeanor possession of marijuana. “A search of a residence on Jackson Street turned up more marijuana, scales, pipes and pain pills,” said Hopkins. Hicks is currently on probation with the Mississippi Department of Corrections. Judge Steve Little set his bond at $10,000 and set Davis’ bond at $5,000. Both remain in custody at the Alcorn County Jail.

David Ring will be speaking at First Baptist Church on Jan. 27. with insurmountable obstacles, he turned to a relationship with God. Through that relationship Ring gained self-respect and acceptance of his physical chal-
lenge. “He is so limited in his abilities, but God uses him,” said Joy Boucher with First Baptist. “It makes me ashamed that I don’t use the abilities I have to serve God the way he does.” His book “Just As I Am” tells about his heartaches and victories, and addresses the central theme of his life —“Triumph Over Odds.” “My minor problems are nothing compared to his,” said Boucher, who has heard Ring speak on four occasions. Although Ring is difficult to understand in the beginning, Boucher said those who attend will be blessed by his speaking. “Expect to be encouraged

Class teaches rescuers to handle farm accidents BY STEVE BEAVERS sbeavers@dailycorinthian.com
Accidents do happen when dealing with large pieces of farming equipment. The Corinth Fire Department wants firemen and first responders to be ready should an emergency happen locally. The department will be hosting a four-hour training session to tackle farming accidents at the Alcorn Farm Machinery-Home & Outdoor Show. The training will be held Jan. 17 from 6-10 p.m. and is open to all surrounding fire departments. “The training will be counted as EMT hours and on their academy transcript,” said Corinth fireman Michael Taylor. The training will be conducted by a instructor with
the Mississippi State Fire Academy and is no cost for those who attend. “We don't have many of these types of accidents, but it is important to know what to do should one happen,” said Taylor. According to the fireman, the session will be a classroom type sitting. Farm machinery incidents make up a large part of the farm-related injuries and may result from the equipment’s age, lack of maintenance or missing safety equipment; the operator’s inadequate training; failure to read the operator’s manual; ignoring safety warnings; or failure to follow safety rules. Any of those factors can result in entanglement or injury. Please see ACCIDENTS | 2A
On this day in history 150 years ago Union forces capture Arkansas Post, or Fort Hindman, on the Arkansas River. Nearly 5,000 Confederates are captured, but the victory does nothing to further the campaign against Vicksburg. An irritated Gen. Grant orders Gen. McClernand to return with his troops to the Mississippi River.
