The historic Fillmore Street Chapel in downtown Corinth remains a popular wedding venue destination. It is the oldest active church building in Corinth.

Corinth, Alcorn County and the Crossroads area are home to a wealth of great bridal and event venues.

In the last year alone, three new outstanding bridal venues have opened in Alcorn County, all just a few minutes drive outside of Corinth.

In addition, three new excellent bridal venues have opened in the Crossroads area. All are within an hour’s drive from Corinth.

Add those venues to the four historic bridal venues in downtown Corinth operated by non-profit organizations, and it’s safe to say the greater Corinth area is a regional bridal venue mecca.

Trish Parks has spent a lifetime dealing with brides and grooms.

She has 35 years experience in the jewelry business and since 2007 has been the owner of Corinth Jewelers.

It was only fitting and appropriate for the jeweler to team with ultimate handyman husband Gerald and the couple build a wedding and event venue.

It’s called Parks Place – “Where southern charm meets classic elegance” as their slogan will prove for future visitors.

Located off Wheeler Grove Road about a mile off U.S 45, their dream began with the purchase of 50 acres of farmland not far from their home.

“I had kids getting married,” said Trish about daughter Mallory Ashe and son Dustin Parks. “And we saw firsthand the need for a local bridal venue.”

“And I love working with brides and

grooms,” she added.

Trish didn’t have to look far for someone to help develop her dream on those 50 scenic acres.

Gerald oversaw the construction project.

A locomotive engineer the past 14 years for Kansas City Southern, the lifelong Alcorn County resident also spent 20 years in the hardwood flooring business.

“The dream was big,” noted Trish. “We wanted something with lots of room.”

And so, Gerald was up to his wife’s challenge.

Parks Place is 10,000 square feet, including a covered front porch, with a 5,000-square-foot Grand Hall which will seat over 500 people – making it one of the largest event venues in the Crossroads area.

The Parks asked for advice every step of the way, talking with caterers on what they would like to see in the kitchen, talking to newlyweds and future brides on what they would like to see in the Grand Hall and

discussions with hairstylists on what to provide in the bride’s dressing room.

“We did our home work,” said Trish.

“We asked lots of questions. ‘What do you want?’ What would you like to see?’”

Parks Place has a huge foyer as visitors enter with an elegant feel. A large bride’s area can accommodate a large wedding party, while the groom’s area has a relaxing tone with leather couches and lounge chairs.

Concrete patio, outdoor gas fireplace and a lighted pergola await guests outside the back entrance, where work continues on an outdoor wedding venue with farmland and forest providing a natural backdrop.

Much thought went into the restroom facilities with large crowds in mind. An added feature in the women’s restroom is a large seating area so the girls can talk about their innermost secrets between dining and dancing in the Grand Hall.

kitchen area was designed by a well known executive chef who knows the ins and outs of catering to large gatherings.

A covered porch and kitchen outside entrance await vendors and caterers.

Gerald is also proud of the mood set for Parks Place with his efforts to build and improve on a 1,800-foot gravel driveway built to have access to the property.

The venue welcomed its first guests on Oct. 5, 2019 and six events were staged until the pandemic crisis hit in late March.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony and community celebration was held on Nov. 19, 2019.

The Parks have hired Sherry Ross as venue manager and the stream of bookings throughout 2020 and as far as December 2021 have the dreamers excited about the venue’s future.

“It has really turned out well,” said Trish, smiling toward her business partner. Added Gerald as he smiled back, “It will be a huge asset to the community.”

“I just saw a need for engaged couples seeking the perfect place to celebrate their love,” said Trish. “We are so thankful that God has blessed us with this beautiful place to share with family, friends and the entire community.”

As if guests are not wowed enough with Jimmy’s handiwork and attention to detail, two double-door rear entrances reveal a 50-by-16-foot covered back deck where 24 seated guests can enjoy a peaceful sunset.

“We are really pleased with the back deck,” said Jill. “It really adds to the venue.”

The back lawn will be the scene of many outdoor ‘I dos’ as Spring Hill Farm can be the right place for the perfect outdoor wedding with the barn serving as the reception area, noted Jill.

Located at 55 CR 171, the venue hosted several weddings when it first opened in October 2019. The farm has been the destination for a variety of special events, including Christmas parties.

The pandemic caused a springtime downturn in weddings, but the future looks bright on the farm with 22 planned weddings, proms and parties in 2020 and into 2021, shared Jill.

In May alone, the new Alcorn County venue booked three future weddings to prove the love season remains open on the farm.

A part-time person has been hired to help book events and daughter Hannah Schay continues to provide technical assistance on both marketing and interior design.

A Mississippi State University graduate, Hannah married Holden Schay of Germantown, Tenn., at Spring Hill Farm on Oct. 26 “on the day we will never forget for more ways then one,” said Jimmy, as Tropical Storm Olga hit on that day, knocking down thousands of trees and creating massive power outages.

Needless to say, their daughter had a candlelight ceremony, shared the parents.

Married for 37 years, the Stricklens proudly say the venue idea and now completion “have been a team effort,” said Jill.

“There were many a late night,” admitted Jimmy.

They approve of the final result and love sharing what the venue has to offer.

“The good Lord has blessed Jill and I, and I am so proud to share our dream with others,” said Jimmy.

Added Jill, “I don’t know anything I would change.”

Just a mile from their home, the Thomas couple married the past 35 years bought the five-acre river bluff as Hank planned to build a shop to house his man toys and tools used in his business, Thomas Construction.

But Pam had other plans.

“I climbed up here on this hillside,” said Pam, seated on the fronted covered porch of the total 3,300-square-foot reception and wedding hall building. “I could see the water from up here. I said this is where I want my venue.”

“It was rough,” said Hank about the chert, trees and brush, as he oversaw all the construction since the day they bought the property on July 27, 2018. “It was a hillside with lots of trees. And a lot of solid rock.”

The dream became a family affair at The Riverton, named for the nearby community which had to be relocated when TVA flooded Bear Creek after Pickwick Landing Dam was complete in 1938.

Twenty-four year-old son Peyton Thomas worked along side his father during the construction, while daughter and son-in-law Tiffany and Boyce Hollingsworth of Iuka assist and help as much as possible, especially on the day of events.

When not booking weddings, Pam enjoys her role of grandmother to four-year-old Hayes and two-year-old McCrary Kate. A third offspring, son Will Thomas, lives in Johnson City, Tenn., and provided a helping hand during construction of the property, said the parents.

The venue seats about 250 people either on the one-third acre beside the wedding vow deck or the 2,400-square-feet of floor space available inside the reception and ceremony building.

The inside area can be transformed into “an outdoor feel” by opening a pair of large sliding doors on the side of the building and a pair of front glass overhead doors, said Pam. Restroom facilities with a rustic feel adds to the venue appeal with wash tubs as sinks, used barn tin as siding and repurposed pallet wood made into cabinets.

A large kitchen area includes a huge walk-in cooler and entrance to the outside for easy caterer and vendor access.

Pam’s vision included a stone stairway from the covered front porch so all eyes below lead up to the bride making her way down to the vow area.

The building’s antique nine-foot-tall by fourfoot wide double doors from a church in Savannah, Tenn. “makes for a grand entrance,” said Pam. There is a story at every turn as the Thomas’ built the venue, from the wooden church pews used for seating to the beautiful glass chandeliers or the massive wooden 12-foot-tall by six-foot-wide cross which can serve as a focal point in the hall or can be moved to a mount on the vow deck.

The Riverton has a lakeside 1,200-square-foot Bridal Suite which sleeps up to 14 people.

The Riverton experience doesn’t begin and end with the reception and ceremony areas.

Hank built a 1,200-square-foot Bridal Suite on the property, featuring an outdoor deck with lake views, two baths, full kitchen and sleeps up to 14 people.

The bride’s wedding party can enjoy overnight stays before the wedding and an entire day of getting ready together, “all with views of the lake,” said Pam. A rustic Groom’s cabin looks out high above the venue property with a covered front porch.

Hank transformed an old Amish outdoor building by covering the historic structure with rusty barn tin and installing a bedroom, bathroom with shower and kitchen. With a couch and trundle bed in the living area, the cabin sleeps up to six people.

“The guys love to hang out up there,” said Hank, as the cabin sits high above The Riverton’s parking area, entire venue and lake.

Pam offers many venue options, some of which include the Bridal Suite and Groom’s Cabin.

official bride and groom in April 2018 and has played host to about 35 weddings since.

Pam’s dream continues to be shared as a dozen events are booked for 2020, including weddings, class reunion and a high school prom.

The couple reflected on their labor of love.

“It is a whole new world when you get here,” said Hank.

“It really is a destination wedding venue,” added Pam, looking across the lake where the sun will set. “Just without having to travel too far.”

Haley – Gugliuzza Jill Elaina Haley and Marc Joseph Gugliuzza were united in marriage on August 31, 2019 in Hudson, New York.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jeff Haley of Corinth. She is the granddaughter of Mrs. Peggy Lancaster and the late Mr. Max Wade Lancaster of Rienzi and the late Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Haley of Memphis, Tenn.

The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Nicholas Gugliuzza of Somers, New York. He is the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. Giuseppe Gugliuzza of Isnello, Italy and the late Mr. and Mrs. Arcangelo Liberatore of Naples, Italy.

The bride is a 2008 graduate of Kossuth High School, 2010 graduate of Northeast Mississippi Community College, a 2012 graduate of The University of Mississippi (Ole Miss), and a 2015 Master’s graduate of The University of North Carolina School of the Arts in Winston Salem, North Carolina.

The groom is a 2004 graduate of Somers High School in New York and a 2008 graduate of The New York University Leonard N. Stern School of Business in New York City.

The bride and groom met in New York City where the bride is a theatrical hair and

makeup artist for the American Ballet Theatre and Broadway and the groom is a software engineer.

The couple had a weekend long celebration in New York’s beautiful Hudson River Valley in the charming town of Hudson, New York where the couple took their first trip together.

At the bride’s side was her Matron of Honor, Ashley Roller and Bridesmaids Dani Wood Fuller, Kai Ravelson, Hannah Conaway Thames and Rena Most.

At the groom’s side was his Best Man, Daniel Nastasi and Groomsmen Nicholas Gugliuzza,

John Gugliuzza, Jordan Sun and Rami Haykal.

Following the rehearsal on the eve of the wedding the groom’s family hosted a private cocktail hour and dinner for the wedding party and immediate family at Swoon Kitchenbar.

Afterwards the bride and groom hosted guests for “Welcome Drinks” at ÖR Gallery & Tavern.

The wedding took place at Helsinki Hudson Restaurant & Club with each part of the evening in different locations within the venue.

One hundred and twenty five people were in attendance. The entire event was seamlessly coordinated by the team at A Charmed Affair.

The ceremony took place in an intimate upstairs loft with guest surrounded by wildflowers (Flowers by Flower Blossom Farms) in honor of the brides Mississippi roots. The bride and groom performed a knot tying ceremony in which their hands were bound with an intertwined cord made from the wedding veils of both their mothers.

Following the ceremony the guests enjoyed cocktails and passed hors d’oeuvres during cocktail hour. Following cocktail hour a formal dinner was served under a clear top tent with

soft warm lighting by Bearfly Designs in the courtyard with tables adorned with florals and cascading greenery.

The bride and groom were introduced for the first time as Mr. and Mrs. Marc Gugliuzza during dinner. Speeches were given by the Father of the Bride, Jeff Haley, the Matron of Honor, Ashley Roller, and the Best Man, Daniel Nastasi.

Following dinner guests were ushered to the club space for the first dances and dessert before joining in to dance the night away led

by DJ Giovanni.

The bride wore a custom hand made French alencon gown and veil designed by Samantha Campbell of Wynona Fox Bridal in New York City. The lace was handmade at Sophie Hallette in France, producing lace since the 1800’s making lace for both Marilyn Monroe and Kate Middleton’s wedding gown.

The bride wore Christian Louboutin shoes,

earrings from Powder Blue Bijou, her maternal grandmother’s wedding rings as her “something borrowed”, her late paternal grandmother’s aquamarine vintage dinner ring as her “something blue”. Hair was styled by Bobbie Zlotnik and makeup provided by Diana Manzanares.

The entire day was beautifully captured by D’Arcy Benincosa and team along with videography by Our Creative Story.

On the morning after the wedding the couple hosted a brunch at Olana State Historical Site to wish their guests a fond farewell.

The couple honeymooned at the Four Seasons Resort in Maui, Hawaii before returning to their home in Brooklyn, New York.

The bride and groom area has plenty of room for the wedding party to prepare for the day.

Rustic pine walls set the tone with plenty of room to sit and relax. The bride’s area has extra space for the bride-to-be to transform herself for the special day.

Rain? Unexpected cold snap? No problem.

The Hayes’ built a 40-by-72-foot Reception Hall with complete kitchen facility where the eating area and dance floor can become the ceremony area should Mother Nature not cooperate and attempt to put a damper on the day.

The Reception Hall and Outdoor Chapel have technology for both visual effects and sound for those wedding reception speeches.

“We did not know what to expect,” said Brenda, an Alcorn County native. “But we are just now getting started.”

The couple understands their wedding venue niche. They are a smaller type variety.

“We’ve had several calls for seatings of 300 or more,” said John. “And that’s not us.”

A pair of weddings, a baby shower and a huge benefit were all held at the facility before the pandemic hit in late March 2020.

Seven weddings planned in April and May are now calling The Woodlands home from July through November this year. Four additional weddings are booked in 2021. Some of the couples are from the Crossroads area, but some of the families are coming from as far away as the Memphis area, Jackson, Tenn. and Tupelo.

Added Brenda, “2021 should be a really good year.”

John leaned on a cedar fence and looked out on his event venue. His handiwork abounds – from the pine straw scattered around the Outdoor Chapel to the window trim on the the bride’s room windows to the Reception Hall kitchen cabinets.

“We are very pleased,” said John.

“To see the sparkle in the bride’s eye and the look on her face when she visits,” he said. “I know this is where we need to be.”

“I just love sharing what we have,” added John. “We are The Woodlands now.”

PICKWICK, Tenn. — Jay Harrison is a visionary.

The Outpost reflects his thoughts. Before one project becomes a reality, the business owner is thinking about his next step. The next venture. Adding more to The Outpost family.

He and wife/co-business owner Cher have added another family member to their expanding venture along Highway 128 just north of Pickwick Landing Dam. The duet hope they have hit all the right notes with the opening of event venue Windsong.

For anyone who knows Jay Harrison, Windsong was an inspiration with divine intervention.

“I felt a nudge and the Lord provides,” said Jay. Built beside the restaurant above the

babbling brook which also calls the scenic gristmill home, Windsong continues with The Outpost symphony of promoting the family unit.

The Harrison’s had a mere $7 left when they first opened The Outpost in November 2011 in the former Adams Bait Shop.

With God as CEO and Balanced Life Ministries earning a share of the profit, the good Lord continues to bless The Outpost with expansion efforts.

The restaurant has undergone several expansions and the sprawling dining, shopping and overnight stay destination includes the General Store, boutique shops, wildlife photography gallery, furniture store, sign making business, Bo’s famous chainsaw art and three bed and breakfast units called The General, The Admiral and The Presidential.

The Windsong is Jay’s latest work of orchestra art and continues the rustic Outpost theme with poplar wood siding.

Jay compares the venue to a human being.

“One must come inside to get the whole picture,” he said. “Far too often we judge for what’s on the outside rather than getting to really know someone from the inside.

Once inside the Windsong, people will see the message within the whole experience.”

The pine floor is repurposed from a Mississippi cotton gin, while the large wooden beams in the vaulted ceiling were built in 1828 and first called home in a Virginia horse barn.

The venue seats up to 100 people and includes a full kitchen, restrooms and changing area. An outdoor deck adds to the ambiance, complete with a fireplace to set the mood for any event.

Ample parking is provided behind The Outpost complex.

The walls inside Windsong are huge panes of glass from the ceiling to the floor, giving the venue an open air feeling to the forest beyond.

The Gristmill was added at The Outpost for families to have photo opportunities.

“The change of seasons are just beautiful,” said the venue composer, looking toward the outdoor deck through the huge windows. “It just takes one’s breathe away – spring, fall and winter. You are one in nature.”

Opening in November, 2019, The Windsong has hosted family reunions, corporate and business functions, women’s retreat, holiday parties, wedding receptions and weddings.

The Windsong hits all the right chords for many events with the restaurant doing the cooking and the overnight lodging available on site, said Jay. The Harrisons are most excited about the latest addition to The Outpost choir being a wedding destination.

“It is the perfect spot for a small, quaint wedding,” said Jay, “It’s so peaceful.”

With weddings and family reunions, “it’s about spending quality family time together,” added Jay. Cher came up with the venue name, scoring what he thinks is a number one hit, said the husband and business partner.

“It came out of nowhere,” he said. “It was the perfect fit for what we are trying to do.”

“There is always music being played everywhere,” added Jay. “We just need to listen.”

Windsong isn’t the final result of The Outpost providing a venue.

With six acres recently acquired beside The Outpost property, a bigger event venue and cabins for overnight stays are Jay’s next big musical score.

“You know Jay,” said Cher. “He won’t ever be done.”

For now, the Windsong is another successful verse in one of Pickwick’s biggest hits in The Outpost.
