A “get well soon” boost is on its way to Corinth funeral director Bill McPeters, who faces a long recovery from severe burns. Bill Avery had an oversided 4.5-by-3-foot card made for the venerable Corinthian, who is hospitalized at Crossgates River Oaks Hospital Burn Unit in Brandon. He plans to deliver it today. By Thursday, every inch of the card’s inside was filled with well wishes from locals. Avery took the card to many offices to

let people add words of support for the popular personality. The cover photo of McPeters dressed with his unique sense of style while seated casually in front of his funeral home was taken recently by Mark Boehler of the Daily Corinthian. McPeters suffered the severe burns in an accident at home last week. “He is an icon and I love the guy,” said Avery. “I happened by as it was happening and saw what a shape he was in. I decided I wanted to take all the best wishes from the folks here in Corinth and help give him the

It's time Christians stood up. Wheeler Grove Baptist Church pastor Bro. Kara Blackard hopes God and Country Day at the church will do just that. “We want to challenge people to wake up and realize that our nation needs to come back to the faith of our fathers,” said Blackard. “Christians need to stand up for biblical convictions.” Not only will the church recognize those in the military, firefighters, police department and sheriff's office, but also issue the challenge to vote in the upcoming presidential election. “Many are so passive and

intimidated that they don't even plan to vote,” said the pastor. “They don't like the choices, so they are about to opt out altogether.” God and Country Day is slated for Sunday from 10 a.m. until noon at Wheeler Grove Baptist, located at 21 County Road 519. Former Alabama Supreme Court Chief Justice Roy Moore will be the guest speaker. Moore, who in 2003 was unanimously removed him from office by fellow judges due to his repeated refusal to comply with a federal court order requiring him to remove a giant Ten Commandments monument that he installed in the state’s judiPlease see VOTE | 2A

The Halloween installment of Films on Fillmore is tonight at the CARE Garden by the Corinth Depot. The night will begin at 6 p.m. with a “trunk or treat” sponsored by Main Street Corinth. Organizers are expecting over 100 trunk-or-treaters to show up for the event, said Main Street Board member Kate Nichols. “This is Main Street’s way of giving back to the community,” Nichols said. “It gives the kids a chance to come out and walk around in a safe environment for the trunk or treat.” Trunk or treat events allow kids to trick or treat a series of car trunks (or truck tailgates) which are decorated in Halloween themes. A skin graft has been performed on his leg. “Right now it’s just time is what it’s going to take,” she said. “I want everybody to know how much I appreciate the kindness and the prayers. With prior information and Tippah’s arrest, the Alcorn Narcotics Unit obtained a warrant which was executed at the County Road 658 residence on the western edge of Alcorn County on Wednesday. Officers found a large amount of marijuana, methamphetamine, several prescription pills not prescribed to Wilbanks, and precursors
