Ka-Boom! Officers get ATF training in explosives at law enforcement center BY JEBB JOHNSTON jjohnston@dailycorinthian.com

A series of explosions rocked the Tuscumbia Wildlife Management Area late Wednesday afternoon as experts blew up a series of scrapped vehicles with the push of a button. The charred remains served as an instructional tool to help officers and fire officials learn about investigating explosive scenes. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Nashville Field Division, working with other agencies, set off the explosions. The Northeast Mississippi Law Enforcement Training Center hosted training several days this week with the ATF to give law enforcement and fire investigators pointers on advanced explosives investigations — particularly those inPlease see EXPLOSIVES | 2A

Mission Mississippi wants individuals in the state to follow the cross. “Mississippi Glowing for Christ,” an 82-day trek across the state by the Mission Mississippi organization, is set for 3 p.m. Sunday at the Alcorn County Courthouse. “This is an event where we have the opportunity to celebrate racial unity through Jesus Christ,” said local Mis-

sion Mississippi local chapter facilitator Bobby Capps. The celebration service, which involves the carrying of a 6-foot lighted cross to each county in the state, is held to bring people together of not only different races, but also different denominations to celebrate racial reconciliation and healing. Community mourns, remembers Timms as always willing to help out BY STEVE BEAVERS sbeavers@dailycorinthian.com

Tom Timms was all about helping others. That’s how friends and co-workers remember the 45-year-old who died in an accidental drowning Monday in San Cape Blas, Florida. “He was the most reliable employee I have ever had,” said Jay Chappelle, Senior Program Di-

rector with Mississippi and West Tennessee Air Evac Bases. “Tom was always willing to help anyone … we say that about a lot of people but it was true with Tom.” Fellow paramedic at MRHC David Boren remembers Timms as someone who would be the first person to help. “Tom always put other people first,” said Boren, who was also a

Evac Life Team. “Even though he was very busy with work, he would still come out to Farmington and check on things,” said Boren. “While he was a member, he was very active … he was always a community-oriented person.” Jeremy Borden went through Please see TIMMS | 2A
