‘Second Amendment Weekend’ begins today By Jebb Johnston jjohnston@dailycorinthian.com
Mississippi is taking aim on the outdoorsman market with the state’s fourth annual sales tax holiday on certain items this weekend. It’s a chance to save seven cents per dollar on items such as targets, firearms and ammunition. The “Second Amend-
ment Weekend” runs today through midnight Sunday. Upon its passage, the law creating the sales tax break was touted by the governor as a way to “ensure Mississippians continue to enjoy our state’s great outdoor heritage for years to come.” Advertisements in the last few days have promoted deals
such as rebates and specials on rifles with scope combinations. “Hunting supplies” are defined by the law as the following items when used for hunting: archery equipment, firearm and archery cases, firearm and archery accessories, hearing protection, holsters, belts and slings.
Eligible firearms include revolvers, pistols, rifles and shotguns. Excluded are BB guns, paintball guns and toy guns. In the ammunition category, eligible items are bullets, gunpowder loaded into the muzzle of a firearm, and shotgun shells. Not qualifying for the sales tax holiday are ammo boxes and
ammunition reloading supplies and tools. Many general hunting supplies such as blinds, decoys, game calls and nets are not eligible. A complete listing of items is available at: http://www. dor.ms.gov/Pages/SecondAmendment-Sales-Tax-Holiday.aspx

The LACS brings unique music genre to Corinth By L.A. Story lastory@dailycorinthian.com
With a musical style they like to call “Dirt Rock,” The LACS are blazing a new trail in Southern music and they’re performing at the Crossroads Arena. The LACS will be coming to the Crossroads Arena, along with Big Smo and Demun Jones, with the show beginning at 7 p.m. Saturday night. The LACS, consisting of Clay “Uncle Snap” Sharpe and Brian “Rooster” King, began making music just for fun. Sharpe is from Baxley, Ga., which he called a “three-red-light town.” King is from Waycross, Ga., in the adjoining county. King’s family had a river house they would visit in Baxley. “I’d see him [King] every now and then on the weekends when we were in school. I’d see this guy around town trying to pick up our girls,” said Sharpe.
The performer said he and King struck up a conversation one day and learned they were interested in the same kind of music. Sharpe raps a little and King played the guitar and they started performing together back in 2000, right out of high school. “We knew we couldn’t sing that good ... If we could sing, we’d be George Strait and wouldn’t bother with rapping, but I guess people like it, anyway,” said Sharpe. Sharpe’s sense of humor and downto-earth manner parallels the music that The LACS produce — with songs about real people and real life for working class folks. Their music videos reflect this as well, featuring real people who are often friends of the duo. “We’ve did only one video where it was shot in Nashville and they used
models. That was our lowest rated video. We did that to show the industry that people want to see real people. We know our fanbase and our fanbase is the working class — the Walmart demographic,” he said. The music began as just having some fun with friends. “Me and Brian did it just to get girls, to be honest. We have weekend bonfires and break out the guitar and just hang out with people around home,” said Sharpe. As time went on, he said he and King realized they “might have something,” so they decided to put it out there and see what people thought about it. He said a lot of people don’t realize he and King put out about six albums independently before they even tried a Please see lacs | 2A
