Saturday stresses community unity BY JOSEPH MILLER jmiller@dailycorinthian.com
On Saturday the “Together We Can ... Create A Better Community” campaign will look to unite the Corinth community from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the John St. Park. There will be free food, music, voter registra-
tion and important information about the status of the community. This campaign will be the first of its kind in Corinth and is based off the events of August 28, 1963 where citizens gathered together at the nation’s capitol to peacefully advocate
for civil and economic rights of African Americans. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his “I Have a Dream” speech on this day in history in 1963 and that speech helped promote the passing of the Civil Rights Act and the Voting Rights Act. “We are really glad to be host-
ing this event for the first time in Corinth,” said NaToya Hill, an event organizer. “It is going to be a perfect day to commemorate what we feel is an important day to remember.” Along with Hill, Shanado Gardner, another event organizer, is excited about the group
of young adults from Corinth who have come together to commemorate this important part of our American history. “We have planned this event for several reasons and one of those reasons is to shed light Please see UNITY | 2A

Organizers making fundraising plans BY STEVE BEAVERS sbeavers@dailycorinthian.com
The experience is less than a year away. Now is the time to raise the money. Organizers came away with several good plans to send a group of special need children to Disney World come May. The first fundraiser to turn dreams into reality is slated to
begin around the first week in September. “So many kids are still out there who need this opportunity,” said organizer Havis Hurley. “It’s heartbreaking to find out so many don’t have a chance to go to Disney World.” Another planning meeting Please see FUNDRAISING | 2A

Teenager excited about opening for Daniels BY JOSEPH MILLER jmiller@dailycorinthian.com
Although music singer-song writer Maty Noyes is 60 years younger than Charlie Daniels, who is now 76, she understands how much this weekend’s opportunity means to her career. Noyes, a 16-year old Corinth High School student, is excited about performing with The Charlie Daniels band on Saturday at the Crossroads Arena. “I never thought that this thing would get this big when I was young-
er,” Noyes said. “I am so excited to be performing with The Charlie Daniels Band and I want everyone to come out and enjoy the show.” Noyes has come a long way since her opening debut at KC’s Expresso, in downtown Corinth, where she got her first start in front of a small crowd at open microphone night. “That was my first time to perform in front of more than just a few people and it was a fun time and a great experience,” said Noyes. “My mother talked
