Aldermen shelve sprinkler request BY JEBB JOHNSTON jjohnston@dailycorinthian.com
The Corinth Board of Aldermen on Tuesday voted to dismiss Margaret Bradley’s variance request regarding a sprinkler requirement that is
an obstacle to expansion of her business. The request, which first appeared before the board in April, ended with Tuesday’s vote. Bradley again appeared be-
fore the board and asked the city to provide water service. Her photography studio at 2103 Highway 72 East is served by the Alcorn Water Association, which cannot deliver adequate pressure for a commercial
sprinkler that is required by the building code. The Corinth Gas & Water Department agreed to pay for the tap into the main transmission line but declined to pay the cost of boring under the highway — about $15,000.
City Attorney Wendell Trapp said the proposal by Corinth Gas & Water is in line with what has been done for others in similar situations, and water Please see CITY | 3A

Avery Shappley’s neardeath experience could be a lifesaver for others. The Corinth Civitan Club recently donated an AED to the Alcorn Career and Technology Center in her honor, and Shappley was an advocate for a new state law that makes CPR and the use of automated external defibrillators a part of the educational curriculum for high school students in
Mississippi. During a presentation of the AED, Shappley spoke about the major health scare that came during the Shappley spring of her freshman year at the first Please see AED | 2A Staff photo by Steve Beavers
